You realize you can stack tanks, right?
Also, the word you were looking for is manatee. Try swimming into the coral reefs next time after you build a scanner, because until you have that, you *REALLY* haven't played the game. *Seriously.*
Cylinder thing: futuristic escape pod.
Fabricator: Futuritic 3D printer that prints anything.
Also the crazy accent rate is because the suit your wearing.
There I made the game perfect.
Also you collect things to live
Later in the game you can eat chips.
I think it’s very interesting to see that whenever you get the oxygen warning you don’t immediately swim upwards as fast as you can, I assume because you’re used to real dives where it’s safer to ascend slowly. Most lets-players I’ve seen always get the warning and immediately go up as fast as possible, but your real life scuba instincts kicked in and you went slow, and I just think that’s really interesting to see your real life experience affect your gameplay instincts like that. Unfortunately video games use different instincts haha
Hello Ori, indeed! One of the things we are most aware as divers is our ascend speed. This is a critical aspect to our safety as divers, so seeing the monstrous speed at which the game let me ascend, was a little frightening 😂
As You correctly pointed out though, the game just needs to except such mechanics to remain more playable.
Thanks for stopping by and for the informed comment. 👌🏻💙
@@WetSouls There is a nitrogen mode that "Toggles longer underwater time and adds the factor of decompression sickness if not careful." It needs to be enabled through console commands.
why does everyone overcollect the mushies first time out, its uncanny, they are everywhere
Because they are nice, plentiful and it sound rad when you pick em ... and prob nobody knows what they are doing 😂
Yep, literally everyone, lol
@@valkeakirahvi 😉
Actually, I first went for the Titanium - I'm kind of a Minecraft person, so "building materials" for me takes precedence over "dafuq is that purple thing?".
Also, carrying unnecessary items in their hand threw most of the gameplay like the fire extinguisher
I love seeing people play this game for the first time, so much trial and error to get the mechanics because the game just drops them on you blind. Your editor is amazing (if it is you right on man!).
One funny thing is everyone who plays the game after the new intro (the one you saw) keeps the extinguisher in their hands for several minutes.😆
A couple of things that will make your life easier in the game.
- You have the standard tank right now you should upgrade it to the high capacity so you can get around 2 minutes underwater.
- Catch a bunch of fish all at once and put them uncooked in your locker inside the escape pod storage bench. They keep forever uncooked and you can come back and cook as many as you need in one sitting. Bladder fish are the quickest way to make water.
- Like real life a dive knife is something you want to get your hands on sooner rather than later.
- Craft the builder tool so you can build an underwater base and get more storage it makes the game more fun when you can create your own space.
- There is an emergency flotation device that is really handy to go from 100M to 0 so fast you would in real life shatter your ears and die from decompression sickness. But hey game mechanics. 🤣I think they say "something something blah blah magic tech space dry suit" in the game files.
Sweeet! Im working on a bunch of new videos (among them another videogame which is water related but of complete different nature) but Im contemplating to do another subnautica. Was thinking about giving the free-mode a shot. Let's see. As long as we have a lockdown going on, I feel that is fine to do. 😂
Was my first shot at a gaming vid but really enjoyed myself! And thanks for the kind words, I edit them myself. 🦧😂
The cooked thing is a lie. Not really just, food can become rotten.
Having multiple tanks on your helps too, cause that enables you to put it on and bam current tank filled.
I've learned in games that if you're drowning you can drink lots of water to keep you from dying.
😱
Actually that would make you drown.
Drinking too much water kills you.
I also cannot sink :C in real life I literally can’t go down.
That is true but I think you’d have to drink over a gallon a minute to do that. I don’t remember the exact number but it would be very hard to do
Kinda underrated with all those edits.
Dear Monkey Jordan, thanks for the comment. 👌🏻💙👌🏻💙

The developer clearly took some liberties with the realism of diving for the sake of gameplay, but it's cool to see a real diver's thoughts on just what liberties were taken.
I think the biggest draw to Subnautica is just how novel it is, and of course the wildlife is very creative and at times quite terrifying.
Honestly as a diver myself, (I'm a hs student, but have an advanced cert) there was one mechanic that I loved when I noticed it. When you pass 100m, you burn through your air faster.
Hello Fox, haven't been that deep here yet, but let's see if we can change that in the future ;)
Cheers for stopping by 💙
I thought people dont normally go that much slower than 100m when diving. Why do we burn more o² when diving deep?
@@sadi5713 OOOOO OOO I CAN EXPLAIN THIS I HAD TO LEARN THIS FOR MY CERT. So basically because the deeper we go, the more pressure we are under, and that also goes for our gear and the oxygen in our tanks. So at the surface the air is normal, but as you go down it compresses. This can be demonstrated with a balloon of air underwater. At the surface it is normal, but as you go down it appears to deflate. But all that is really happening is the oxygen molecules getting closer together. As you rise to the surface, the balloon appears to inflate. It's the whole reason why it isnt a good idea to hold your breath underwater while diving. Imagine breathing in compressed air, rising while holding the breath, and the air expanding in your lungs. Only bad things will happen in that situation.
@@sadi5713 hello there Sadi. Recreational scuba divers are bound to a maximum depth of 40 meters. This has to do with safety and the nature of the training you receive as a recreational diver. Generally any dive requires very accurate planning as well as the right equipment. The deeper the dive, the more factors will play a role in being able to conduct the dive safely. Usually depths deeper than 40 meters are considered the realm of technical diving, 100 meters are a very considerable depth for a diver and very few people regularly venture to such depth.
The reason why we use more gas at greater depth has to do with pressure and with how the scuba regulator connected to the cylinders and from which you breathe works: The regulator will always provide air with an amount of pressure equal to the pressure you find at the depth you are at, so your lungs can receive the right amount of air for you to breathe easily. The deeper you go the more pressure is pushing on your chest, therefore you need more pressure in your chest to equal the exterior pressure and allow your lungs to inflate with air. More pressure=more air. The more pressure you need to inflate you lungs, the more air you need to create that pressure.
The regulator ensures this and allows you to breathe easily at a given depth.
@@WetSouls Not quite correct. It doesn’t have to do with pressure on your chest. It simply is due to pressure on the air molecules themselves, condenses the molecules closer together. So when the air comes out of the tank it condenses. When you breathe 1 cubic foot of air at 30 feet depth, or condensed molecules, it’s approx 4 times the amount of air you’d consume on the surface since the molecules are condensed 4x the amount. It has nothing to do with your chest receiving more pressure or anything like that. The air actually condenses as soon as it hits the hose or your mouth, before it even reaches your chest
5:00 I just love that reaction! I've finally found someone else that apparently doesn't suffer from thalassophobia and is quite excited - instead of terrified - to explore everything and dive deeper.
Btw, I can't imagine how much time was spent on the edits, nice job!
Thank You Archer! No, I def. don´t suffer of thalassophobia and its all about going deeper / further and exploring 😀 Guess that´s the divers mindset! Nice to hear You share that too. And thanks for noticing the edits! 👌🏼👌🏼🤿🌍
Ya boi ain't even broke 100 meters yet. There's a loooooooot more to this game, m8. Take it from an Early Access veteran, you've got tons more to discover.
Boy oh boy. No, I haven't. I have realised playing more how vast this is. I could run a second channel just on Subnautica 🤣 Thinking about doing a sequel with deep sea exploration though. Let's see 👌🏾🌊
@@WetSouls lmao, warnin' ya ahead of time to be wary of the spicy water. You'll figure it out when ya get there. There's two types of spicy water, one is green and the other is red. Good luck!
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 damn. Any form of defense I can employ there or just avoid it?
@@WetSouls The green one, no. The red one, yes. Scavenge all the wrecks, and you'll find it eventually. (Oh yeah, by the way, you unlock new blueprints by scanning things and opening data boxes- that's how you progress through the game.)

Whoa I've never seen the mac version of Subnautica before, those are some wonky square waves when you look up at the surface! Definitely takes away a bit from the immersive realism of the full specs PC version but great video still! Not sure if you're into gaming in general but if so, this is probably one worth playing through until the end as it has a pretty cool background story and lots of stuff to discover.
HeyHo! Yes, it sucks but given how I have no faming pc, I didn't have any alternatives. Actually I really enjoy gaming but seldom have time to practice. Maybe though, I'll do another Subnautica session sooner or later. Stay well
@@WetSouls I wouldn't say it sucked but it just looks a little more like just a computer game whereas the PC version on full specs looks at least a little bit more realistic. But still a very entertaining video and it's always fascinating to hear people with specific skillsets share real world information in relation to the game! Would be fun to see another video (regardless of computer) if you ever find the time.
@@foilhattiest1 i will try my best. Actually working on something atm which is related but a little different. ;)
I love when people are amazed by the world with even potato quality settings. This game's dope.

Thank You lone wolf! Appreciate your comment. It was a different than usual video but a lot of fun to make. 👌🏾👌🏾😅

“Pretty buggered” is a very accurate analysis of the Aurora.
Hehehe- it was the first and rather spontaneous description that came to mind :)
*picks up fish*
Why am I carrying a fish?
That's what we call a professional deformation. 😂 As scuba divers we don't touch, collect or take with us anything from the ocean. 😉
Something of note, which im sure you know. The issues you had with the air tanks and the dive/accent rates are understandable, but the developers had to take some liberties to mechanically balance the game and keep the gameplay moving at the right pace. Letting you dive for too long on your own negates some of the danger and wonder because you wouldn't feel restricted in your exploration. You'd never need to find materials, to make larger tanks, then find more materials to make vehicles, ect. The air tank limit (measured in seconds of air, by the way) its the main way to force the player into exploring further for better materials. The accent speed is there for convenience to, as you saw, help get you to the surface when you are low on air.
I'm sure if the air tanks did last longer, the accent rate would be slower, but it would also be more boring for the player having to go slow rather than just do what they need to do and play the game. So thats why the dive mechanics are how they are.
And yeah, look dont touch is the rule here when you are in no danger, but when you are stranded and its about survival, its alittle different. :) Glad you liked it though.
Hey, thanks for Your very thorough analysis and thoughtful comment. I really appreciate the game and I´m fully aware of the fact the developers cannot create a 1/1 Scuba simulation - I guess it would actually be rather boring and complicated to understand / would require too much knowledge and probably graphically quite demanding too. ;)
There needs to be a balance between realism and fun and I find the game achieves that rather well.
Have a couple of releases lined up (on will be another water related game) and then, sice we are still in lockdown, I think I will give Subnautica another go in free mode perhaps. Cheers
I’m a scuba diver (PADI rescue, and also TDI cave diver) and 100% agree with you, and also something “Wet Souls” didn’t mention is that as divers, yeah we have longer lasting air tanks BUT WE ALSO MOVE MUCH SLOWER! In 3 minutes of “Subnautica” swimming, they can swim more than your average diver can swim in 30-40 minutes with his Aluminum 80 tank! Because the diver in the game is swimming like 15 mph and never gets tired, whereas divers in real life swim 1-2 mph max with gear on and need some rest time to catch their breath
Also I’ll add that I just finished this game today, and it terrified me so much that now I’m like afraid of the water, and I’m pissed because me and my wife have a trip to Greece planned LOL. 😩 The game legit traumatized me and made me afraid of the ocean when before I wasn’t. I DONT recommend actual divers play this game- seriously- it lures you in being an addictive and cool game. But it’s scary and creepy and slowly it makes you fear the ocean and dread leviathans or sharks coming at you. Pretty soon you make that connection with water that wasn’t there before
Only thing saving me is that I googled it and Greece’s Aegean Sea is super safe with few sharks
I’ve played the crap out of this game and I love watching professionals play Subnautica, their perspectives are always very similar. This video was really good and very entertaining...funny and interesting. :)
Thanks Ender. Glad You enjoyed it and had a good time watching. It is a very enjoyable game and I guess I'll give it another go on the channel. And thanks for the "Professional" denomination. ✅👌🏽
Looks like you haven't gotten to see a reaper yet. I'm glad you're getting to enjoy the game during quarantine and it's great getting to hear from a Scuba instructor and their thoughts on the game. I wish you the best and hope you have fun exploring. Late in the game you can unlock a prawn suit, which is a mech capable of descending to 1000m, a reinforced suit that allows for diving below 500m, and a cyclops 1 person submarine.
I definitely think you will have lots of fun and I think you might enjoy base building once you unlock it which allows you to build new things, have an underwater docking area, and to further study and contain sea creatures in fish tanks.
I think an Easter egg you might love will be the cuddle fish, a dog like fish that you can find eggs of and hatch in the world of Subnautica the farther and deeper you explore.
Hello Wasabi! I think I haven't seen anything of this game yet. 😅 It seems really vast with so much to to and explore. Really love the detail that went into it as well as the incredible atmosphere it manages to offer players. 💙

There was one other time when we went to this natural water park in mexico and we were walking across a floating bridge to go somewhere different and I looked down to see a really huge barracuda peeping out underneath the bridge and I had just been swimming near there, gave me the creeps XD

When I see people approach this game in light of their profession, they always get wiped out by their own inability to see what is important. It's not about what you know( Marine Biologist, or Scuba diver) it's about reading the situation and adapting. It's fascinating to watch these "pros" make this error again and again.
Hello James,
Thx for coming here to write this. Since we are under lockdown, of course I approached the game in the "light of my profession" ... I can't go out and do what I love (and what the channel is all about): Scuba Diving and real UW adventures... So I had to find a surrogate... 😁😉
Btw: Aren't all situations about reading them and adapting to them?
Ps: Have You ever tried diving ?
Pps: Thanks for calling me a "Pro"🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
@@WetSouls I have never tried diving. I am one of those people who can be paralysed seeing a submerged object. I honestly have no explanation for it. As for my other remarks, I have only noticed that the marine biologist needed to learn how to work the equipment and build tools to sustain life. Yet she ran off to study this or that while going on endlessly about information that had nothing to do with her real need. The other one I saw had the attention span of a goldfish. It was amazing how stuck in their encyclopaedic mindset they were. All they could see is what they had learned. It was unsettling watching a PHD who was demonstrating how they could no longer think their way through the situation. I watched and I learned. Then I started looking at my own life to see if I was doing that. Humans think they know something. They seem convinced they are more than they are. And it dooms us to stagnation -basking in the shadows of our illumination. UA-cam is a great place to study humans. It’s like a duck blind. I hope you return to Subnautica. AND PUT THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER DOWN Lol. You will be amazed at how you can dive to over 1800 meters. It’s a beautiful game. But you are going to call it out on many diving issues. Best wishes.

Wow, where to begin. I watch a lot of people play this game because I love it so much but the one thing they all do is when they see the acid mushroom they will literally grab a hand full of them like you did, look around, do they look like they are a rare item, NO. This is a survival game and you have a limited inventory until you get the ability to make a habitat and storage. Get to your life pod and look around at every thing there is, then study your fabricator closely to see what you can make. The bladder fish is great for an emergency water source but there is a better method (fabricator). And as for exploring at night that's not a good thing, I don't have eyes like a bat.
Now for the video, your addition of unnecessary sound and overlays is a big distraction for the video itself, I just want to see some one play and enjoy the game. I feel you face cam should be 20% small and put in the upper right screen and not move or warp or transform.
Of course this is just my opinion, I can't speak for anyone else. Look forward to the next video.
Hello there Phil and thanks for stopping over but more for Your very detailed and open review. Im glad You enjoy the game and yes - those mushrooms are pretty much absolutely useless.
I appreciate you pointing out the survival aspect and indeed, that is the focus of the game. The scope and broadness that went into the development are remarkable. From my side though and given the focus of the video and limited time such a video can take, I wanted to focus on the real parallels to scuba diving (the channel focuses on that) ;) I have played again though and really enjoyed further aspects. Especially crafting items.
In terms of editing, I just enjoy playing with the software. Guess that's just the artistic liberty behind the project.
In any case there will be more coming. Enjoying the virtual underwater adventure. Take care
