  • How to build a magnetic cup turner. For epoxy resin tumblers. Detailed step by step instructions. I will be building a homemade turner due to a lot of people asking me to do a tutorial. I hope this helps you. I didn't want to buy one myself so I decided to build my own. The first one turned out good. The second one is turning out great. I made a few changes to it. I have experience in carpentry and electrical. You will need these skills to complete this task and the tools to do it.

    Thanks Steve! I showed this to my husband and we were able to convert an existing cup turner that used arms with PVC screw on caps to magnetic arms. SO MUCH BETTER!! Thanks for putting this DYI out there 🙂

      I understand do you make epoxy resin cups if so if he ever want one don't have time to build it and can afford to buy one I can make one and sell it to you it's $400.00

    What would you charge to just drill the holes on both pieces? 1x12x4 5 on the top and 5 on the bottom?

    Hey Steven. Thanks so much for this video. I just have one question for you. On your PVC plug that fits over the wooden dowel….. is that threaded? I can only find threaded. If so, did you drill it out or just jam the dowel in the threads? Thanks again.

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      None of the PVC fittings I use were threaded but some of them is not a regular cap it's considered a plug I advise people in the past it's better to just bring a small piece of the dow rod to match up with fits and if it fits a little loose you can always glue it in with silicone

    What is the white part that you pulled the barcode off of, sanded, then drilled your own hole? Dimensions?

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      That is called a schedule 40 1-in plug just so you know the reason I sanded it is because there's a little ridge on there and when you try to drill it will make your bit walk off to the side that's why I got rid of that little ridge and the sticker but it's not a cap it is a plug

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      And the PVC pipe that I use for my handles is 1 in schedule 40 but if you watch the video you'll notice at the end I have problems with it fitting over the wooden dowels and I think it's because it's out of round or something I'm going to have to go somewhere and purchase another one I would just take a piece of the dowel with me to make sure it goes inside of it before I buy another

      So I have 1 in plugs and a 1 inch dowel. The plugs measure 7/8-15/16 and won’t fit over the dowel. How’d you make it work?

  • @Freckledmagnolia
    @Freckledmagnolia Рік тому

    Hey! It’s me again :) so I am in the process of trying to build my own, but I am confused about the circuit boards. You sent me a link to one, but do I need all of that? Which one do I use for the single Turner and which one would I use for my 6 cup Turner?

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      You don't have to use the little circuit thing that's all that is is a junction to tie everything together it's better to use it because it's safer so wires don't come loose when you're doing a single you really don't need that you can just twist the wires together with the electrical twister nut I just use it for multiple

    Hi Steve, I found only the motors and not the entire kit.

      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      On Amazon the motor kit comes with the motors , The brass piece for the attachment to the motor electrical cords and comes with some PVC but I don't use it because it's a millimeter everything else you have to buy separate from the hardware store.

    I got 1 in plugs but it doesn’t fit my 1 inch dowel rod. What size plugs did you get?

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому +1

      The plugs which are called the shaft collars you must have missed that in the video you need to order 1/2 in because they go by the inside diameter which the 1/2-in is 1 in outside diameter you want to get the black dioxide I think is the one that I got because some of them are not magnetic as well

    • @Freckledmagnolia
      @Freckledmagnolia Рік тому

      @@stevenwright6280 I got the shaft collars. I’m talking about the white plug that you screw the hole on then connect to the gold part on the cup motor.

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      It's best to take a piece of the Dow rod with you when you go to get the PVC plug to make sure you get the right one It should be a 1-in

      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      @@Freckledmagnolia The plug does not go over the dial rod it butts up to it The plug is meaning the shaft collar right it's half inch inside but the outside diameter is 1 in if you remember when I was making the arms the plug goes inside the PVC and the plug is only used for steel so the magnet will attach to it The magnet screws to the end of the dowel rod and the plug butts up against it so however long your Dowel rod sticks out is where you need to install the plug remember take out that little screw and put the quarter inch thread with the bevel screw , remember you drill a hole in the PVC pipe and slide the shaft collar/plug inside and then use that quarter inch screw to secure it The plug is only because it's metal so that it will latch to the magnet on the dowel rod

    So we built a turner following your videos! But my cup arms do not stay level when rotating. My husband made sure to drill the center of the 1 inch plugs that attach the dowel to the motor. And also we did your measurement of 1.5” from the top, 3” from the sides and 7” apart for the back board. And did 1” from the top on the front board. I’m at a loss as to what we did wrong! Any suggestions?

      You also have to make sure the motor is screwed to the wood straight It could be a little off instead of 12:00 it could be 11:30 or 12:30 like looking at a clock if you understand what I'm saying you have to make sure it's exactly at 12:00 straight up where the shaft comes off the small motor

    • @stevenwright6280
      @stevenwright6280  Рік тому

      And if it's wobbling up and down most likely it sounds like the screws not in the middle, just guessing that , unless your dial rides are not straight possibly but being as short as they are I doubt that they are not straight
