Just wanted to say for most long haired piggies it is quite important to keep the hair around their sanitary areas short because it can mix with fecal material and matt if it gets to long
Several years ago I went to a Guinea pig show in Sydney ... just to see such a show, as in the past I had bought a couple to help my grand daughters understand and learn the responsibility of owning a pet ... There was this Amber coloured long hair one with a young teen girl who had a matching hair colour just like her "Winning Pig" ... it was adorable...
This is my second time to watch this video. It is VERY interesting and I will probably watch it again in future-it’s packed with information. Thanks for doing the research for me. 🐻❄️🐻🦁
🐹 It was so interesting learning about guinea pig breeds and colors. Thank you for all the work you put into this video. How fun to see viewers' adorable and pretty piggies! Also, I'm so glad to hear Lyra is feeling better! 😊
I’m watching this while I’m at the vet waiting to see the Doc, your videos Always make me feel better! 🤗 Put your paws up if you’re a guinea pig😄 that’s what I say to my piggies when they get treats🤗 they get real loud it’s soo cute!
What a great video! I have a beautiful herd of unwanted piggies (all adoptions of course!) and now I know what breeds they are - I have a swiss, two rexes, a ridgeback, a himalayan, a peruvian, a crested tri-color, and two abyssinians!
Every single vlog I watch about piggies I learn something (or many things!) new. It’ll always be really interesting to puzzle out the breed or mix of breeds in a herd, and I love that piggy personality seems to be intertwined with how they look ... but I bet whatever I think I will look for when adopting a herd, I bet it won’t be quite as I expect in the end! Like humans and other animals, it really is the connection you first make that matters ☺️ And I can officially add Lyra to my list of favourite internet piggies ... absolutely adorable 🥰 🐹
Your videos are so helpful♥ I had my first lap time today, and it was so rewarding! I have a dutch guinea pig named Winnie and a crested guinea pig Maisie. Your videos have helped me make my piggies so, very happy. Thank you!
I just got my first piggies a week ago! They're rescues and were super shy when they first came home barely coming out of the hidy. I've been binge watching your vids to make sure I can make them the happiest piggies after having such a ruff start to life with their previous owner. They have come so far already! I've seen them popcorning and they will actually let me hand feed them and sometimes pat them! After watching this I believe they must be closest to a tortoiseshell swiss and a brown and white sheltie agouti. Thank you so much for the help!
🐹 Loved it! I think a pair of piggies I just rescued this last week might be silky since they are so much shinier than my other piggies! Off to research those more specifically! Thank you for the fun video ❤️
Very informative video with lots of cute piggies! Also fun fact, the agouti coloring gets its name from a genus of rodents called agoutis, which happen to be closely related to the caviidae family. They kind of look like long stretched out guinea pigs with that ticked coloration
@@transandpetsummm…. They have some similarities but Guinea pigs are more work and money but they’re definitely worth it, Guinea pigs also normally have more personality! ( I’ve owned both)
2:26 that looks EXACTLY like one of my Guinea pigs! So I have an English haired Guinea pig called star, an Abisinnian or rigback called darkness (bc she has a rigback and rosets around her body) and an coronet called snow!
Very interesting video, Thank you! We've been trying to figure out what breeds our 3 guinea pigs are. Thanks to this video I'm pretty sure we have a Tricolor Coronet! Another is tricolor with patches of Agouti. Our third had me wondering if he is Satin or just has a very shiny coat.
Lovely surprise to see my boys Noodle & Nimbus make the video 🥰. It was interesting to hear about the different breeds, I didn't realise that pigs can only come in 3 colours!
Great video Sarah, so lovely to see so many types of piglets! I'm so happy to hear Lyra is well again, good girl! I'm sure this video took a good while for you to prepare and it's really well done, thank you! 🐹
Awesome overview - thank you!🐹. We have 2 American short hairs (one tri-color white, Black and Tan, the other a chocolate bi-color agouti with white), and a black and white Abyssinian - all girls.
Thank you so much Sarah for this lovely video which I enjoyed rewatching a year later and seeing Coral my white mini Sheba yak who died a couple of months ago. Your videos are always lovely.
That's was a brilliant informative guinea pig breed lesson. I know now I have a Merino with dutch colouring and an tri colored abyssinian. Thanks for your hard work in making this video 😀
Thanks Sarah-what a great video. I learned lots from this.Didn't know that the Baldwin piggy is born with hair and then loses it! Sorry, I didn't realise Lyra had been unwell but very glad to hear she's back to her old self, bless her. Some new piggy toys I ordered arrived in the post for my girls today so they're having a fun morning! Take care and bye for now x :-) Jemma
Yes neither did I I found out lots for this video! A fun morning with new toys sounds the best, I hope they had fun! :D Thank you for your lovely comment 😍😊 x
Wow thank you for your videos but this one is fabulous. I had no idea there were so many different types. My boys Dash, WomWom, Stiles and Jasper couldn’t be more different. I will have to re-watch a few times to get their breeds sorted. Dash is orange and really curly but his brother WomWom looks like a Wombat hence the name. Again thank you and I am happy Lyra is feeling better. Christine from Australia.
I don't have piggies anymore but I used to have two boy piggies which one was a tricolor abyssinian and a short hair who was bicolored and I just love the abyssinian because of the hair that goes in the different directions I had a piggy before that who was bicolored and an abyssinian so the fact that piggies come in various colors and hair forms is really neat
Omg I never heard of an agouti before and now I know my pig Jon is one and I would always discribe him as each individual hair having multiple colours on it!😅😂 🐹
Aw thank you for this video, I have two American short hard piggies 😊 I didn't know what breed they were before coming across your video. However one is black and brown with a small white patch in between its ears and the other is black and white with a small black patch in between its ears! Xx
My nine year old son wanted a guinea pig which I was totally against buying them for him. After a week, I absolutely fell in love with them. I’m not sure what kind they are. I would love to know, and I am so happy you have these videos to teach me information About them. I wish I would have known how amazing these animals are, I think I am more in love with them than my child. I would love to send pictures so you can provide me information on them. Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge which helps me be a better, guinea pig owner!
I have a brown/orange American short haired piggie with a white bottom and a brown/golden, black, white, and gray colored sheltie guinea pigs. Also all these piggies are so cute!
My mommy piggie has white, brown, blonde and lilac. She was a gorgeous runt. She darkened up as she got older but was quad colored when she was a baby.
Thank you for sharing this. I knew my ginger and white one was an American Shorthair, but thanks to you I now know my other one is a Crested Harlequin, black and tan, who has the most amazingly soft, shiny coat. Lots of wheeks from my boys. 🐹😁
We’re new Guinea pig owners and your videos are very helpful! We only have one guinea pig, but we’re searching for another male to be with him. We got our little guy (jellybean) from a friend. She thought hers was a male and then she realized hers is a female. Jellybean is Peruvian and has white hair and the tips of his hair are cream colored.
I have 3 female Guinea pigs they are all tri-colour, one is American, One Is American Crested and the other I think is probably a cross between various different breeds but looks close to an Alpaca guinea pig! Thanks for this video it was very interesting to learn what breeds my girls are! x
That was very informative. Thanks for doing the research. I have heard references to Callie guinea pigs, but not sure what they look like. The picture I saw looked similar to a Himalayan, except the cream color was more like a pale ginger with the brown points.
I'm looking to adopt 2 piggies. They're both Absyssians and one (I'm pretty sure) has some agouti colouring bc she has 2 different colours in her spots. They're a girl (2) and neutered boy (3). Just inquired, but wish me luck in getting my first piggies!! Update; I got them!! It also seems like my boy has some longhaired genes in him bc he has long hair on his butt and nowhere else. My guess is Sheltie. He also has a similar colouring on his face like a Dutch crested but only has colour on his head, not his butt. Their names are now Apollo and Artemis
I've always been wanting a video like this! I've done lots of my own research but every video I find tends to be incomplete. This was amazing! PS when you said a breed was recognised in Australia for a second I thought you meant you lived in Australia and I got extremely excited and went straight to your etsy shop haha 🐹
