      some tips i’ve learnt: you can never give them too much hay, i like to give mine pellets and grass in the morning and then vegetables at night, instead of buying loads of spray for cleaning - get a spray bottle and make a vinegar and water mix. it’s completely safe for them a and a cheaper alternative! hope this helped you with your piggies ☺️

    also, another thing with tip: 1 is, you can also just use vinegar and water and mix it up, and it will do the same thing that F10 does with the water soulution. Just a tip. But yes Sarah thats an AMAZING idea ive never heard of that and thanks you!!

      F10 is what my vets use to sterilise their operating theatres. It even kills Parvo.
      So a bit stronger than vinegar and water.
      You can buy in Australia and it looks like the UK but don’t think I’ve ever seen it mentioned in the US.

    the coriander and parsley hack does work very well. But I have a couple more that work really really well. For Celery, wrap it in foil. And for the lettuce, wrap it in paper towels. Both of these hacks make the item last for weeks, literally, weeks. Thanks for all the other hacks.

      Did you have to take them to the vet? If you don’t mind me asking if you had pet insurance did that lower the cost or it wasn’t expensive at all. I’m trying to research important stuff like this. I don’t have any pigs but I hope to get two soon

    • @thenoake1
      @thenoake1 9 днів тому

      @@thisqueenieisunique2896 Hi, so different people will give you different answers. I don't insure my piggies. You can be unlucky and I have been in the past where one needs surgery and that of course cost a lot. Typically not as much as cats or dogs, but I'd say the cost of insurance has never been less than my vet bills. I would have lost money insuring them and I have had piggies for last 10 years. I did take mine to the vets and I do whenever I think there could be a problem (sooner you catch issues the better). There will always be a time they will have to go, but it's just not normally enough to warrant insurance. What I would say as in general advice is adopting is always best, wish I did it sooner. Some amazing centres out there which will give you tons of advice and make sure you get healthy happy piggies. I also prefer older piggies as I find them to be a lot friendlier than babies. Also good for you on doing your research, I don't think enough people do. The content creator you're watching here is fantastic, would recommend all her videos :)) And best of luck with your new piggie family!

  • @robinjones394
    @robinjones394 3 роки тому +1

    I saw this hack on another you tube channel… buy a silicone brush (it’s usually sold for removing lint and pet hair from clothes) - it works wonderful for brushing hay and hair and poop off the fleece liners when spot cleaning or before washing them…. I bought a large heavy duty one.. hopefully it will last a long time..,
    I think it’s also good to buy fleece in person rather than online… that way you can feel it - some fleece feels more slippery than others.. You definitely want the slicker/ more slippery fleece so poop doesn’t stick…
    I’m going to try making my own fleece liners…. Paper bedding is so expensive! And we go thru it so fast…. We are only using it in one half of the cage… and using disposable pee pads on the other… these are m6 sons piggies…. So I’m going to start by making smaller fleece liners for 1/2 the cage… that way if he likes them then I can make bigger ones for the whole 2x4 cage..

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  3 роки тому

      Great advice! I will definitely have to try the silicone brush! And so true about the type of fleece, especially for the liners. Fortunately the less expensive fleece throws are very low pile and work great for liners 😃

    I ABSOLUTELY will be using some of these that are new to me! Thank you!
    I’ll be getting the F-10, for sure. It makes sense to save money and to kill those fungal spores, as well.
    Putting hay into TP rolls is an excellent and affordable idea!!
    Duh- why didn’t I think of trying to direct my young piggie into a snuggle sack? I have two of them. Great idea!
    I’m going to try the plastic liner of hay for toileting use. So far I’ve tried putting small pads in all of the “hot spots” but they often get soaked in one night! I hope a smaller version will work for two Guinea pigs because my cage is 6’x2’.
    I’ll be using your veggie tips, for sure! I currently have floppy celery and wimpy parsley.
    I do have a QUESTION about the washing machine hack. When I used a laundry bag for my fleece, the hair remained on my liners and pads. Does yours? What I’ve been doing that is working is washing the fleece items twice. Once with free and clear detergent and the second time I don’t add detergent, but I do add an extra rinse cycle. This has worked, but I’m guessing it’s not good for the washer is it?
    Thankfully I was told to buy a bottle brush before I heard about the rice hack, which sounds messy!
    As you can see, I learned a lot from your tips! Thank you for making this video!

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  3 роки тому

      Thank you I'm so glad the video was useful! Yes the hair does hang around on the fleece pads etc, but it does also gather in the pillowcases. I find the best way to get it off is to hang liners and fleece items up outside to dry, even then some still stays but this is okay for me 😊

    I have an idea that would help me and possibly other newer Guinea pig owners.
    Could you perhaps show some examples of “floor time”?
    I have two piggies- boys- and they live well together so far in their 6’x2’ C&C cage. They are 11 months and 3 months old and have been together for about a month.
    Maybe you could collect photos or short video clips from people showing their floor time?
    I don’t know what goes into a “good” floor time. How do I cage them in easily? What is easiest to put on the floor to catch the “gifts” they leave us? Do they need hidies and tunnels or anything else?
    Also, does the set up need to change each time?
    How often do they need floor time? How long should each session be?
    I kind of need to know the least amount that is still good for them because I live with chronic pain from a car accident and I don’t last too long each time I get busy.
    Could this possibly be a video? Thank you!

    I've never used the rice hack or even heard of it til now. I have always just used a bottle brush. I have also heard that some algea in the bottle is actually good for them as long as it's not left there for too long. When animals are a bit sick, I have put dissolvable vitamin C into the water bottles. I generally give them a second water bottle of just water if I do this in case they are put off drinking at all. I find they use both. Would really love a video on vitamin c deficiency and your take on it. Not sure if you already have one. I have used the toilet roll for hay hack, especiallyf or my longhairs who tend to get it tangled in hair, but lately I have been using hay racks outside the cage and they pull the hay in through the bars. I use planters for this, and it makes it easy to refill hay without opening the cage, keeps it clean and free from soiling, gives them something to do and to work for to get their hay which relieves boredom, and I can easily see if the hay is getting low and needs refilling. They can't get their heads stuck in it as it's outside the cage so it's safer. I've been meaning to make a video on my animal channel (this is my gamer one) about some of these... I dont get the amount of hits that you do!

When I cleaned the bottle using the brush I also put in a couple of drops of bleach to kill the algae because I was afraid it would grow back. I rinsed it very carefully. Lovely videos with fun piggies moments. I just made a couple of fleece runners repurposing an old mattress protector from when the kids were small and some fleece. I have a bottle brush and reusable straw brushes(test tube brushes) for the nozzles. Best tip I’ve heard is to use a stiff brush like a floor brush to brush away all the hay and hair from the fleece before washing. I find it’s much better than just shaking. Also free dandelions and seasonally dill, basil and carrot tops all from the backyard.

    Hi. Watched a few of your piggie ideas and hacks now. Brilliant. Can you please tell me where you got your water bottles from though?
    They look so much easier to clean with a bottle brush that the usual plastic bottles, which in my opinion, encourage algae growth. And do they leak or not? Cheers

    these were very good tips and i’m going to try to make my own pee-pad things, also do you know how to stop their water bottles from leaking?

      I have been filling the bottle as close full as possible. I replace the top and while it is still upside down from being filled, I gently squeeze the air out until water begins to come out from the top and then I quickly turn it right side up. You should see a few air bubbles floating from the opening upwards into the bottle. This means that you’ve made it much less likely to leak! It is working wonders for me and my fleece now stays dry.

    You need to wrap the lettuce in paper towels or you will get gooey algae. I reuse the paper towels once I air dry it. I put one in a plastic box and store the other vegetables 🥕 too. I change out the towel (if damp) and air dry it and put a new one in.

    I don’t get 0:45 do you just mix it with water?? What do you mix it with also what spray do you use and what do you use it for (where to put it)

    • @SqueakDreams
      @SqueakDreams  6 місяців тому

      Yes mix a tiny amount with water in an empty spray bottle that you can reuse. It's a disinfectant for cleaning the bottom/sides of the cage. I use it for cleaning out their litter box too, spray it then wipe clean with kitchen roll.

    Thanks so much for these tips!! These have saved me so much time, and effort. I've been looking for a good anti-septic for ages, and I will defiantly be getting the F-10 one!
    Do you have any tips for teaching piggies to drink from a water bottle? I have 3 pigs, and they all were brought up with drinking from dishes, and I think having a bottle would be so much easier, I've already tried to teach them but they don't seem to understand how haha, they just lick the bottle being very confused. Thanks so much for posting these tips!

      I think this was a very helpful video because I’m trying to convince my parents to get me a Guinea pig but I think that you are teaching me a lot about them and how to take care of them this video really helped. The Guinea pig breeds video was very helpful and I suggest everyone watching should check it out it was a very helpful video and another video is “The 5 best and worst things about owning a Guinea pig” I think all of your videos are very helpful and I love your 4 Guinea pigs they are very cute

    How often do your females go into heat? Also my younger piggie (10 months old, I have had her for 9 months) has two little sacs at her rear end, I have been informed by two vets that she is a female. It seems they show up more when she is in heat. What could these be? I just had her to the vet two weeks ago and she never said anything was wrong. Should I consider taking her to another vet? She always seems to be rumble strutting and picking on my older piggie which I just rescued her 5 weeks ago. I believe now my older piggie is in heat as well so it seems to be butt sniffing and rumbling and annoying each other. I see your videos and never see yours rumble strutting or picking on each other. Mine get along most of the time. I introduced them for 3 days 5 weeks ago, I kept a divider between them but they could see and smell each other. They were fine with each other even resting next to each other between the divider. What am I missing or doing wrong? Their area is a C&C unit which is 2.5 ft by 5 ft. I give them hidey and beds. Your guidance or advice would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

      Thanks for your comment - ah I do try to talk about both, sometimes things are only available in the US too - which cages did you mean? F10 is on Amazon US but now I see it says not available which is a shame - there are probably other pet safe concentrated disinfectants available though :)
