Believe it or not, you weren't even wrong saying Yankovich. Let me explain: Yankovich is a pretty common surname in the countries of former Yugoslavia. In fact, the VAST majority of surnames there end with -vich, hence the origin. Now here's the tricky part: In Serbo/Croatian, the language mainly spoken in this territory, we use the letter Ć to denote the ch sound. And since English doesn't have that diacritic ( the little diagonal line above the C) it was changed to a C and therefore Yankovic. But you, my man, were not wrong at all. This just means that you've, possibly, heard several other surnames from this territory and remembered it as a pattern in your mind. :-D
Excellent expöanation. I'm Finnish, but I knew this. But better some of you mother tongue folks eplain it. Gives it prestige and weight - so some people might remember that :)
Yup. I had a prof from Servia whose last name was Dordevic. Pronounced "GEORGE-a-vich." So yeah, in a lot of Slavic names a final C is pronounced as a CH.
@@thesisypheanjournal1271 It's most of the Slavic languages, except Polish that has an older spelling system, pretty much the same sounds - more s & z etc can be heard in Polish. Another case is of course those languages using the Russian style aka Cyrillic letters, not our Latin. But beware, there are many Turkic languages, Mongolic + many others which use those letters, though they are not Slavic at all - just influenced by Russian more or less. Most of these -ic´ending names are from the Balkans (between Hungary and Greece). They have a letter c + ´ on top: that means ch. It can happen anywhere in the word. Likewise they have a d + ´, spelled d + -, but it can be dj. That's said like the English J, except not like in Taj (Mahal) - 'Tadg' would be the one corresponding to J in the beginning of English words, just like garage ends differently to baggage. So that Dordevic would be better spelled like Djordjevic, which I've seen, and like said above, Serbian has there a d with an additional mark not available in the regular font we use here: it's like hyphen - across the vertical line. So clumsily like: D-ord-evic´. Put the lines etc. on the letters before them :)

I'm probably guilty of some of these. Even though I've known English since I was barely able to read, there are still things that I have issues with. For example, 'who' vs 'whom' tripped me up for the longest time, and using commas correctly is *still* something I have issues with, as it seems to differ, depending on which source I ask. Still, that all pales compared to how people write nowadays. "You should NEVER write words using numbers, unless you're 7, or your name is Prince." I love that line. Al never was happy that Prince kept turning him down when he wanted to parody one of his songs. It's probably one of Al's more vicious jabs at a fellow artist. I would love to see more people react to "Dare To be Stupid". It's my favorite song by Weird Al, the music video is hilarious, yet it gets so little attention, presumably because it's not as popular as all his other songs.

This is my favorite Weird Al song along with White And Nerdy because of how it speaks to my nerdy side and my grammar nazi side. Yeah, I have that side of me that gets annoyed by misinformation and grammatical errors and mistakes. {6:10}
I have always liked spelling and proper grammar. Back in 2000 when the internet really started taking off, I would spend some time at my friend's house and use her internet (it was dial up back then). I used to complain to her that the spelling was horrible. She told me that I might as well don't even try to correct the spelling and grammar because the internet has their own way of spelling things. I guess she was right
The biggest mistake I've always noticed,is the,"I could care less" phrase.Hell, even Beyoncé got that one wrong in 'Single Ladies!'😅She really should have invested in a proof reader before that song was released,...or better yet consulted Weird Al.😂
Oh I call people out directly on that one. "I could care less..." Really? Feel free to do so. Amazingly, every single time, the guilty are immediately confused as hell. Are the stupid like that dead? Do they really know they are when they are?
This was... satisfying. Glad that it mentioned the "I could care less" thing. It's "I couldn't care less", people! 😡 If you say "I could care less" you are saying exactly the opposite of what you mean.
I would like to play Devil's advocate a moment. What if I did care a little and I am warning someone that if they keep doing what they are doing I could care less. You could be threatening to stop caring at all. Thus "I could care less" I know you are attached to this piece of junk car in the driveway. Because I care I keep asking you to do something about it. I could care less about it and just get rid of the thing. It is just the way that most people use it is wrong. I could care less is not necessarily wrong if you are actually intending to convey that you could transition from caring about something to not caring at all. While, "I couldn't care less" implies that you already stopped caring entirely.
Yes! I could care less about Liebherr cranes (I am a crane/construction enthusiast, or whatever you want to call me). I could care a LOT less, since I care quite a bit! If you don't care about something at all, you can't care less-It's simple!
That was REALLY GOOD!! I had diagrams ALL THE TIME!!! NO ONE REMEMBERS THEM!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM? The prepositional phrases were below the main sentence and we took the noun at a diagonal on top and the verb, etc. I was pretty good with them and they disappeared one day forever!
My biggest thing with grammar is when people say they're going to go warsh. The word is wash . That truly drives me insane also there, their and, they're. It's not that hard
Wow... he missed the joke at the end with the timing "Weird Al has a big..... dictionary". But he also missed some other things because he distracted himself all the time.
I've been trying to leave a comment under Andrew Moran's "Don't be a Moran" thread to explain what "Moran" is based on in Weird Al's video, but it keeps disappearing - being REMOVED, I gather. Why is this happening? Why am I being censored?
I like that he brought up the misuse of the word “literally” in this song as that has long been a pet peeve of mine. One time I mentioned that someone couldn’t literally be drowning on evidence unless the evidence was a liquid that could enter the accused’s lungs! Then one smart guy chimed in and said “It’s called a figure of speech!” 😖 Oh good grief it hurts! So of course I couldn’t leave that be so I responded,- Oy vey! You can’t use the word “literally” in a figure of speech! That is literally what the word “literally” means!
I'm actually surprised how many people don't realize that the sign he holds up is misspelled because moron has an o not a but I can tell you as someone who writes stories for fun I can tell you that it has helped me out watching this video because that whole you don't use quotations for emphasis I never realized that and I did that all the time so now I know every time I write and I do that this song pops into my head and like am using it right are the quotations proper 😂😂😂😂
Some people are blessed with intelligence in multiple areas, some aren't. I'll be the first to admit, there are many grammar errors that bother me (loose or looser instead of lose or loser is probably top of that list). However, there are people who are artists, musicians, mathematicians, etc. that struggle with spelling and/or grammar. I love this song because I relate to it, but I don't judge anyone based on their spelling and grammar. I would prefer to not be judged on my singing, painting or ability to play an instrument, therefore, why would I judge another based on their grammar? (I can't lie, I used to, many years ago. As you get older you take yourself less seriously, hopefully, and with that comes an appreciate for different types of intelligence. Hopefully.)
Sup Billy, reminder to please react to EXO - Promise Live eng sub here ua-cam.com/video/N1zC-lm_DHA/v-deo.html It's a powerful song composed by Lay and written by Chen and Chanyeol for their fans because of the scandals. Like members leaving, Baekhyun dating and media criticizing them. Many Exo-ls were hurt by all the scandals and some even left the fandom. So this song is like a renewed promise/apology to the fans for breaking the "We Are One" promise with members leaving. I think it was also partially dedicated to the 3 Chinese members that left EXO which made it even more emotional. This song also shows off their amazing vocals and rapping.
I use not even need spellcheck but now without it I'd screw up the simplest words I know or use to know. I just used it now to spell the word simplest.
My nurse manager at the VA was a LOUSY writer. It was nearly impossible for me and others to respect her as our manager primarily for this reason. I have about 17,000 word in my vocabulary, But Al hat 1 million!
I guess she was right
It's funny, i was a bit of a word goblin in school but I too learned nomenclature in the US Army...
Calls out Reddit straight away!
I’m dying.
We said wieldin...wildin...weirdin. Love that this just popped while I was looking into something completely different - everybody shut up!!
Bro your hat is a Ken & Ryu dragon punch! Nice! Street fighter 6 is going to be lit!
This was... satisfying. Glad that it mentioned the "I could care less" thing. It's "I couldn't care less", people! 😡
If you say "I could care less" you are saying exactly the opposite of what you mean.
I would like to play Devil's advocate a moment. What if I did care a little and I am warning someone that if they keep doing what they are doing I could care less. You could be threatening to stop caring at all. Thus "I could care less"
I know you are attached to this piece of junk car in the driveway.
If you don't care about something at all, you can't care less-It's simple!
just don't write a letter to your favorite
english teaching aunt!! she will send
it back marked in RED!! true story, yeah
it happened to me
That was REALLY GOOD!!
“ I be like ? “, come on man ! Ebonics ???????!!! Flush that toilet !
My biggest thing with grammar is when people say they're going to go warsh. The word is wash . That truly drives me insane also there, their and, they're. It's not that hard
My father used to use that pronunciation. My sister and I spent years trying to correct him on that.
I can spell, I just can't avoid all the typos! I have to edit everything I text lol
I have the same issue.
Phone Keyboard is pain.
Weird Al Yankovic Hamilton Mash Up Parody I think you might have fun with that.
Weird Al is apparently of Slavic (Russian, Poland, etc.) descent. That means his name is pronounced "Yankovich".
Now correct your opening to "Billy, YOU'RE so crazy."
anyone else think that the world needs more Weird Al covers and videos ?
Everybody missing the "cunnilingus/cunning linguist" flip
That's part of the joke, not just aimed at peoples bad grammar, but the grammar fascists too.
Weird Al is very articulate.
Amish Paradise By Weird Al
Billy give us some more insane clown posse- in yo face
Wow... he missed the joke at the end with the timing "Weird Al has a big..... dictionary".
I had an “evil” stepmom who was exactly like this, for real- geez! I was only in 1st grade too! ❤️💛🤘🏼✌️
This is one of my favorite Weird Al parody songs.
My question; do you know what the original version of this song is ??
The Robin Thicke song... Blurred lines...
Try typing walking a dog who jinks, sprints, and jolts.
I like that he brought up the misuse of the word “literally” in this song as that has long been a pet peeve of mine. One time I mentioned that someone couldn’t literally be drowning on evidence unless the evidence was a liquid that could enter the accused’s lungs! Then one smart guy chimed in and said “It’s called a figure of speech!”
😖 Oh good grief it hurts!
So of course I couldn’t leave that be so I responded,-
Oy vey!
Hopefully.)
nomenclature is a way of saying a sentence that makes sense in translation. scientists use it also.
You should react to Weird Al Yankovic: Canadian Idiots
Wanna see him go check out Hardware Store.
Joe Exotic- Here Kitty Kitty
Number 1 English class song 😂
You missed the Mission: Impossible reference meat the start :-)
Sup Billy, reminder to please react to EXO - Promise Live eng sub here ua-cam.com/video/N1zC-lm_DHA/v-deo.html
It's a powerful song composed by Lay and written by Chen and Chanyeol for their fans because of the scandals.
You said wield 😄
My nurse manager at the VA was a LOUSY writer. It was nearly impossible for me and others to respect her as our manager primarily for this reason. Our host blamed recent technology for his word crimes but I noticed he failed to listen much to the song. He was too eager to talk and try to explain his failures. It all begins with listening to people who are capable of teaching and READING
Grow old- Florida Georgia line is pretty great
This song finally helped me understand the difference between its and it's. Just sayin'
