      Bermuda Schwartz is a key part of Weird Al's career. A Weird Al concert works well, because he'll be in, say full Amish Paradise costume. They play the song, then for like a minute Schwartz will have some zany drum break after the song and BAM! Al is back in full "I'm Fat" costume and the next song starts. He is a great concert.

      One of the best lines he's ever written. For those that may not know the backstory, around this time, The Who had a concert in Cincinnati, where due to the venue opening the doors late, the crowd stormed the arena when they heard a sound check, thinking the were missing the show. This caused a stampede, killing 11 people and injuring 26 others.

    one of his original influences was Spike Jones who was the Father of Parody songs (followed later by Stan Freeberg). Spike had a whole band that used these kinds of sound effects and strange voices. They made many successful "party" albums. I saw this episode with Tom Snyder. I've only recently discovered your reaction channel and subscribed a couple of weeks ago, after watching you collapse on your couch in laughter. I just love watching your reactions to Weird Al. I've not yet watched you with anything else yet, but these videos make me so happy, and you get me laughing all over again. You are so positive, and inspiring, and I'm so much enjoying you enjoying his songs and videos! Thanks so much, you have a great spirit.

    that is Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz. Al's drummer for 40 years. This was before he had an actually back up band.
    My Bologna was recorded in the college bathroom.
    This song was recorded from a live appearance on the Dr Demento show. He wrote the parody while waiting outside the DJ booth. Jon Schwartz happened to be in the radio station at the same time and offered to bang on his accordin case as a drum. After the taping, Jon said to Al "That was fun. You should have a band and I will be your drummer."
    The rest is history.

    Al has some great original songs. He will do songs that are in the same style as other musicians but not the same song exactly. One of my favorites is 'Dare to be Stupid.'

    • @thecerpent
      @thecerpent Рік тому

      Interestingly enough, Dare To Be Stupid was one of Weird Al's style parodies - in this case, he was parodying the musical style of Devo. And Devo remarked afterwards that Al did their musical style better than they even did.
      If you want another style parody by Al, check out Germs (where he imitates NIN)

    Al's original song UHF is great and talk about creative, the video is all him, dressing up like every Pop star of the 80s.
    His Prince impression is spot on!!!

    The guy that bangs the box and makes all the funny noises is Al's drummer John "Bermuda" Schwartz. John has been with Al since Day One, and they are the best of friends, and John's still with Al, recording and touring. They've known each other for at least 40 years, if not longer.

    Yup, that it. That was one of his first, and it was live before an audience, it was his debut, and before anyone really knew who he was
    Nobody thought then he be so big today. Even the Grammy's don't know what to do about him. But, Weird Al was a huge fan of Spike Jones, who you can see in this song (with all the comical sound fills of bike horns, whistles, etc)

    There used to be a radio station here in Phoenix called KRIZ. One Saturday night after this came out one of the DJs played this and "Another One Bites the Dust". That is ALL he played for 4 hours, alternating between the 2 songs. He was fired by the following Monday.

    I grew up with Doctor Demento Show, and this early Weird Al really is what that show was about....the videos really came a lot later in Weird Al's career. Songs like "Making Love in a Subaru" and others are worth searching out.

    First live performance ever by Weird Al, who was a college kid at the time. This is the Late Late Show with Tom Snyder, which was usually a pretty serious show. You had to stay up until midnight to watch it.
