MJ was a. HUGE Weird Al fan. For Eat It and Fat, not only did he give his blessing, he got the original sets, as many dancers as possible, and coreographers to make it frame--for-frame exact as possible
@@MrSplat1972 Oh I love the side by side videos. Have you seen the Bedrock Anthem one? I'm pretty sure I've seen all of them. There is an interview where he is talking about when he first sent a tape of the song to get his permission. Legally he didn't have to. Al still tried to get permission EVERY time. He didn't think MJ ever would. MJ gave his blessing and gave Al names of people he worked with for his video.
The reference to 'kids starving in Japan' refers to the 1950's/60's when parents would tell their children 'clean your their plate' because there were starving children in China. The implication being we were fortunate to have food on our table while the children in China may not have enough to eat.
Of course, the canonical retort to that has become "Fine, send _them_ the food instead", which has led to that particular guilt trip becoming discredited. I don't remember my parents ever using it. And for the record, the first time I heard of that one (in a work of fiction), the line was "...starving children in Africa".
Fun bit of trivia: that photo that fell was a picture of Doctor Demento, the comedy radio show host who gave Weird Al his big break by playing his first songs on his show. :D
Can you imagine how much talent that weird Al and his band to have to stay true and the spirit of the songs he parodies??? I would have to say he is truly one of a kind
He hired the same actors from the Beat It video, and used the exact same sets. The only thing he couldn’t do was recreate Eddie Van Helen’s guitar solo.
