@@NeptunetheChameleon oh, I'm just devastated right now! I inherited a 2 yo cham from a friend whose brother didn't want to keep him. I live in Mauritius, an island not far from Madagascar and we are used to see lots of different chameleons in the wild and I just recently got a female panther one which I am really fond of. She is about 6 months old now and I would like to know something, should we get the same setup like you showed in some of your videos? We have nearly the same temperature as Madagascar, so I was wondering maybe we already had the right environment for them to live. I am getting her a quite huge screen cage soon that I will leave outside during the day and keep her in my room at night in a smaller one, only for her to sleep, is this ok? Thank you very much for your videos it is really helping.
Our veiled chameleon is recovering from a respiratory infection, should we adjust the humidity levels and make it higher all day or keep the 30/40 day and 70 night
Such great information! I’m taking care of one and the instructions they gave us is to go every other day, alternate the lights (red and white) and feed. My concern is, the lights are on even at night, there’s no mister only a humidifier we turn on every visit and no real plants. And the food count seems to be the same every time we go. Any advice would be appreciated.
Sounds like the owners need to do some additional research and learning. To answer your questions: Red lights should not be used for chameleons. All lights should be off at night. @@NeptunetheChameleon wow! Thank you so much for responding!!! I appreciate you and your great videos so much. I went to the reptile store and got some advice. Then I asked the owners if I could bring her home for the next few weeks so I have her and doing everything I can. Thanks to your videos my mind is at ease! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for making these videos, i feel a lot more confident taking care of my new chameleon now!! I want to use this bottled water that is processed by RO, but the ingredients include Calcium Chloride which sounds close to chlorine to me which I know to be bad for them. Should I use reptisafe to purify this water or is it okay to just give it the way it is? Is reptisafe good to use at all? (i've gotten mixed replies on this and I trust your content the most) Thank you for all the videos!
What’s the Brita Filter that you used and how often do you change the filter? I’d like to change to this asap since it’s seem better than my current option 😅
It was just a standard Brita pitcher. But nowadays I have a separate filtered water system built into the sink of my home so that’s what I’ve been using.
i have this this block i had to soak in water and fill the bottom of my tank with with is this good for absorbing water or do i still need to make some kind of drain system
Getting a brita filter (the kind that screws on to your sink) is so handy for humans and pets. I also add one drop of reptisafe but maybe I’ll cut that out. Never felt great about it since they drink that water too. Also, going to make a homemade dripper. I have the big dripper and it only drips super fast and aggressively or almost nothing at all. There’s no in between so I usually don’t use it much anyway
Hi I didn’t really understand the part about the fogger I would like to get a fogger but I don’t know how long to run it at night a when. I also live in a dryer state. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this information since I’m a new beginning with having two chameleons I just lost one and I’ve been bawling my eyes out but then I just got a baby chameleon 😢
Good luck with your new chameleon! You're welcome to book a video call with me and I can help coach you through it: neptunethechameleon.simplybook.me/v2/
Re watching all your videos. At first because I'm getting yet another chameleon and it's been awhile since I've had a baby (aside from one all my chams are old farts now. With my Meller's being the oldest at 12½) and now I'm just rewatching the rest for fun. Lol, do chams drink water. My youngest likes to drink while vertical in full faceplant into a leaf mode like someone who has had a little too much fun on a Friday night.
Hello.. Working on throwing my enclosure together and your channel has been a great help! I've got a reptibreeze 2x2x4 enclosure and biggest concern is misting/fogging. Can you bypass a mister and go with a programmable fogger running after the lights go off and running every couple hours until 1/2 hour before lights come on in the morning? Thanks!!
I'd say you could probably forgo the fogger but would highly encourage you to get a mister. Ideally you'd have both so that you have both tools in your tool belt to customize your hydration and humidity as needed.
@@NeptunetheChameleon .. Thank you for your quick response.. Wasn't the answer I was looking for but I'll take your advice. I had received the Reptizoo digital timing humidifier for Christmas along with a misting bottle and figured that would add enough humidity and moisture for hydration. Thanks for your help.. Im currently in the process of gathering branches and not in a rush to buy my chameleon. I want to focus on the enclosure and make sure all husbandry is right for success. 👍
Hi I been watching your vids I have a dripper I out ice cubes on top of my screen cage I covered 2 sides with shower curtain got a mistking I mist 4 min b4 lights on mist 3am for 1 min and mist 2 min b4 lights out but my 6 minth old panther skittlez his urate is tan to orangy his eyes ate nice and round not suken in at all ..wht else can I do for hydration?should I be worried?thanks
i wanted to get a jackson chameleon and the encloser that im gonna make is going to have a system so that everynight theres a chance it might rain for a bit would this be a good choose or no?
@Neptune the Chameleon the best way i can put it into words is that im going to use a small water pump to up the water to the top of the tank with small tubes with holes so that the water sprays out and either it will hit a hard top to that all the water drips down it or it sprays also would this same system work for a panther?
My veiled chameleon is outside in a fully screened cage, porch is also screened. But Florida is usually 70-78% humidity and usually 80-85 degrees out. Is it to hot out for him? He does have shade from live plants on his cage. I had him in the house the first two weeks but my apartment is dark I felt like he didn’t have enough light or warmth (inside is between 70-75. He seemed to want to come out to go outside for sun. He was going to the bottom of the cage for three days and screen walking until I moved the cage outside. Haven’t seen him do it since so far.
@Neptune the Chameleon oh, I'm just devastated right now! I inherited a 2 yo cham from a friend whose brother didn't want to keep him. Rango appears to be undersized for a mature veiled and after getting the care run down from the previous owners, I sized it up against the info in the veiled group I follow on FB and it was way off. He came with a 20x20x4 screened cage, T5 UVB tube and a 60 w heat lamp all of which I kept, but his diet and nutrition was crap. I also have a ReptiRain that runs for 1 min - 20 mins before lights on in am and 20 min after lights off in pm.....but in the last 24-48 hrs he's tanked big time, major decline. I'm at a total loss as to what's wrong. 😭😭😭
Ps. He was on calcium without D3 every feeding and with D3 every two weeks but that was it! I maintained the calcium without D3 at each feeding but switched to Reptivite with D3 every 2 weeks for a full dietary supplement. I give him gut loaded crickets and alternate super worms and horn worms. I feel like I was so meticulous and careful to mind his needs (many). I feel like such a failure, to see him looking so miserable. I don't think he's going to pull through but I'm holding onto hope and have him in a hospital bim going on 25 hours now. 😞 This is so hard.
If I were to use a substrate like coconut or a mix should I reduce the amount of time my fogger goes off at night/early am? Considering the fact it’s suppose to maintain humidity itself . Thanks
That'll depend on a multitude of factors with your environment. I would also not recommend the substrates you listed. Here is my video on substrate to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/YGJ4S_cPzes/v-deo.html
@Neptune The Chameleon if I’m misting half hour hour before and after lights then shouldn’t my chameleon be sleeping and therefore not be able to drink the water or not realize it? For the dripper how long should it be dripping for? Should I move my dripper around to different areas of the enclosure or keep it in the same spot with the best dripping position? Thank you for the content. These are genuine questions I can’t find direct answers to in any other videos unless I missed something.
1. The idea that is explained in the video is that chameleons are breathing in the water vapor in the air with the higher humidity at night. So, they can still stay hydrated without physically drinking the water. 2. Drippers can be left in the same spot if the water is dripping onto leaves below it.
I was given a panther chameleon.! But I notice he’s right eye is close and won’t open it. Left eye is open and moving around any help or advice on to rehab him.
Hi I am getting a yeman very shortly all tank is set up I am getting a heck of a lot of conflicting advice from several sources some are with you. With misting with lights off but many are with the opinion of misting with lights been on for 30min before misting and 2 hours before lights out both have valid reasons but which one is correct advice ??
Both have the right idea of misting when the cage isn’t too hot so that it’s cool when the enclosure is wet. We are still learning what is the best way and I don’t think doing one over the other will make a big difference. Just avoid misting during the middle of the day :)
Hello I love ur content it’s so helpful for learning how to take care of a baby chameleon but I got a question about night time do thy need complete darkness or can u still have a light on in the room wit them or like a tv Bcz my cage is in my living room
I need a little help I’m a new owner and she is exploring finally it’s only been a couple days but she hasn’t made her way to the bottom for water. I do spray and stuff I just don’t know like when they are dehydrated and what to look for. We have a brute filter also need to know if that’s ok. Mainly JW if she will find her water at the bottom eventually lol I worry she’s not getting what she needs. Also using 50 watt bulb and 12 hours with that and then we cut it off at bed is that normal too? One more thing is the temp in my apt gonna be a huge issue I keep it around 72 or 73 plus she has the heat Lamp just wanna make sure that’s cool
As mentioned in the video, chameleons don’t often drink standing water so I would mist her 2x a day as recommended. I’d also encourage you to watch my care guide videos. Here is the one for veileds: ua-cam.com/video/IC9YALNYrqQ/v-deo.htmlsi=0RzmmQS2KPsmojlO and here is the one for panthers: ua-cam.com/video/bxJO7F7I5bU/v-deo.htmlsi=Cf_xR1oVBehhaPg3
So since panthers require a higher daytime humidity, in say the northeast us, would the misting in the morning an evening in a hybrid enclosure be enough to keep the 60% humidity?
Hi! I'm a new keeper. I bought a little dripper and it's awful so I'm glad to know I can just make my own. It came with a packet of water conditioner. Do you recommend using that in the water? I haven't been seeing or reading anywhere that it's necessary.

Where you get the background things in the breeze enclosures? The look like aquarium background sheets or whatever they are

I'm not sure what you mean by "block" so it's hard for me to say.
All great ideas!! Let me know how to homemade dripper goes :)
I love my MistKing. I have 2 nozzles hooked up.
do i need a fogger and how often should i mist if i didn’t have one for a veiled
Great video ☺️👌
Thanks 😊😊
Hi I didn’t really understand the part about the fogger I would like to get a fogger but I don’t know how long to run it at night a when. I also live in a dryer state.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this information since I’m a new beginning with having two chameleons I just lost one and I’ve been bawling my eyes out but then I just got a baby chameleon 😢
Good luck with your new chameleon! You're welcome to book a video call with me and I can help coach you through it: neptunethechameleon.simplybook.me/v2/
I was just wondering which brita filter do you use
If I’m in Texas and it’s kind of humid should I buy a glass or screen or both type of enclosure?
As mentioned, it depends what species you’re keeping. Screen is the most common recommendation.
12.5 years old?!! That's amazing. I'd love to have a Meller's one day.
Hi great videos I was wondering which dehumidifier do you recommend
I don’t use a dehumidifier myself, so I don’t have one I can recommend from personal experience.
instead of a brita water filter can i use a PUR water filter? and what exactly are the bad things in the water that’s bad for the chameleon
As long as it's not more than 50% orange, then he's okay!
i wanted to get a jackson chameleon and the encloser that im gonna make is going to have a system so that everynight theres a chance it might rain for a bit would this be a good choose or no?
Potentially! It's hard to say without being able to see it.
@Neptune the Chameleon the best way i can put it into words is that im going to use a small water pump to up the water to the top of the tank with small tubes with holes so that the water sprays out and either it will hit a hard top to that all the water drips down it or it sprays also would this same system work for a panther?
can you use bioactive enclosure for calumma parsonii? and i love ur videos
You definitely can!
Are regular human humidifiers safe. I put it on low, but I think I need it lower?
They are safe to use. But whether or not you need one is going to depend on your environment and what your species requires.
Hello I live in Massachusetts and was wondering how long and how many times a day should I run a fogger for my veiled chameleon tyvm in advance 😎👍🏾
As mentioned in the video, that depends on your species and natural humidity of where you live. Also foggers should only be used at night.
I've been cautious as I've introduced supplements and gut loaded bugs over the past 3 months and he's been fine.
Here is my video on substrate to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/YGJ4S_cPzes/v-deo.html
can you use an oil diffuser (with no oil in it) that diffuses vapor into the air to hydrate them at night?
I’ve never used one before so I can’t really say 😅
Your amazing❤️💯❤️
Thank you 💚
@Neptune The Chameleon if I’m misting half hour hour before and after lights then shouldn’t my chameleon be sleeping and therefore not be able to drink the water or not realize it? For the dripper how long should it be dripping for? Should I move my dripper around to different areas of the enclosure or keep it in the same spot with the best dripping position? Thank you for the content. These are genuine questions I can’t find direct answers to in any other videos unless I missed something.
1. The idea that is explained in the video is that chameleons are breathing in the water vapor in the air with the higher humidity at night. So, they can still stay hydrated without physically drinking the water.
2. Drippers can be left in the same spot if the water is dripping onto leaves below it.
@@NeptunetheChameleon I understand now thank you for the reply!
Can you give some advice or make a video on what to do if your chameleon is losing its appetite
I'm having to feed by hand every day
ua-cam.com/video/waCeIkQE1hw/v-deo.html
I use a sheet to cover the side of my enclosure and leave the top open and that usually works for me
Also great video always so helpful!
Thanks for sharing! Glad the video was helpful.
I was given a panther chameleon.! But I notice he’s right eye is close and won’t open it. Left eye is open and moving around any help or advice on to rehab him.
What plants can I put in the enclosure? And what do you recommend
ua-cam.com/video/oiKA30cm5-c/v-deo.html
Which plants do you recommend? Isn’t the fertilizer toxic for the chameleon?
Here is my playlist on plant videos that should help: ua-cam.com/video/LC2HFunvV9M/v-deo.html
@@NeptunetheChameleon sound thank you I will leave mine 30 after and 2 hours b4 lights off for the moment
Hello I love ur content it’s so helpful for learning how to take care of a baby chameleon but I got a question about night time do thy need complete darkness or can u still have a light on in the room wit them or like a tv Bcz my cage is in my living room
A TV light should be fine but avoid turning on any overhead lights.
Thank you!❤️
You’re welcome 😊
So since panthers require a higher daytime humidity, in say the northeast us, would the misting in the morning an evening in a hybrid enclosure be enough to keep the 60% humidity?
I would say most likely yes. Especially if you are also using live plants.
Hi! I'm a new keeper. I bought a little dripper and it's awful so I'm glad to know I can just make my own. It came with a packet of water conditioner. Do you recommend using that in the water? I haven't been seeing or reading anywhere that it's necessary.
It really depends on the water quality of your tap water.
