    After working with reptiles for a couple years, I finally decided to buy a baby veiled chameleon from a breeder (whom I later found out wasn't too great)
    I took him home and had a temporary setup for about 1 week before upgrading his enclosure to how it is now, similar to yours which he likes much better
    He ate from my hand from the day I got him, and continues to have no problem doing so every day. He will exit his enclosure when I leave it open to climb onto me and let me take him to chill on my microphone while I game, and hang his hand off for me to get him when he is ready to go back. Sometimes he will be sassy and pretend to threaten me when I want to feed him, but then the next minute he's trying to get back onto my hand or head.
    From everything I've seen, I've gotten really lucky with the behavior on my boy, Clavicus, and I hope he lives long

    I'm researching chameleons, because I've been wanting one for several months now. When you were talking about chameleon urates, it reminded me of how bird poop works (I have a cockatiel), and it's good to know there's at least something very small in common with my two favorite pets, if that makes sense lol.

    Very informative and helpful to anyone thinking about raising a chameleon. They are a creature that requires proper handling, nutrition, and environment. Any major change can cause them to go from healthy to sick within a few days.
    My daughter showed up one day with him for my birthday about 3 years ago. I was definitely not prepared for a male baby Veiled Chameleon.
    After wondering if he was gonna make it more than 3 times during our first 2 years together, and the thousands of dollars spent on live insects, fruits, veggies, supplies, & habitat materials... you begin to understand how fragile they really are.
    Freds now a big, beautiful, cone-headed boy that loves soaking up the afternoon rays of sunshine in a window.
    It took us a couple of years to figure each other out.
    Patience & care are a must. 🙂

    Hi there!! Thank you so much for your amazing videos, they have saved me but more importantly probably saved my chameleon! I have a few questions but here is some info on him first:
    He’s a male veiled chameleon. I got him from PetSmart and he is 9 grams. I assume somewhere between 3-4 months old?
    1. I feed him 3 crickets or small dubia roaches in the AM and the same in the PM. Do I only need to coat the food once a day with calcium? Or both AM and PM?
    2. Is it okay to give him calcium 6 days a week? Or less? (On the 7th day I alternate C plus D or Multi)
    3. He’s very skiddish and shy. Puffing up and changing color anytime we get near him. I just feel awful and don’t want him to think we are a threat. He’s also digging in his dirt. So strange. Is this normal??
    Thank you in advance!!

    I’ve seen a lot of chameleon communities say that your videos are not good sources of information and generally talked bad about your channel. However in my experience raising my chameleon, this video is pretty spot on. I’m not quite sure where the hate is coming from, but I’d say keep up the work and hopefully people learn to be kinder. The online chameleon community can be overall pretty nasty. While I get there’s a lot you can do wrong with care it seems as though they are always looking to just yell at you.

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  10 місяців тому

      A lot of those communities are very strict and rigid on the care advice they offer and support. Whereas I tend to take a more of an approach that accepts the idea that there is more than 1 way to successfully keep a chameleon. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and form your own opinions. At the end of the day, I’m just out here trying to help people have healthy chameleons :)

    I have a very odd veiled chameleon according to all the research I've done but then again it had to live through some odd times... I had some experience with keeping poison dart frogs, tarantulas and crabs in the past and always dreamed of having a chameleon but I never expected it in this way.
    A coworker had mentioned they had a chameleon for a year that they found on a barbed wire fence in the middle of summer in Texas and they had kept it in a glass enclosure and fed it grass hoppers for a year straight. They said they had been hand feeding and using a dropper to get it to drink. They gave it to me expect I can bring it a good home and back to health and I immediately did in 3 days. But it's personality isn't like any other chameleon I've researched or seen from friends house. It's not shy at all, begs to be out of his net enclosure to crawl all around me every time it sees me. It destroys dubia roach's almost instantly from some pretty gnarly distances, and after I started this new weekly coloring supplement it has absolutely beautiful teal green base with a dark red stripping down the middle of him.
    I still wonder how he found his way on that barbed wire fence..

The container is big enough he can get in it half way if he wants which he does he loves to stick his head and arms in his feeder box. When he had just the cup he'd just stick his entire head in it lol. The one thing that made me nervous when I started was how they drink. Congrats on the new chameleon! Red heat bulbs should never be used for a chameleon. And no lights should be on at night, including any sort of heat bulb. I have other videos that go into more detail on that topic. Biggest piece of advice would be to make sure the enclosure is at up correctly and that you are using the correct supplements. Jackson’s have a different supplement schedule than veileds do.

    Hey! I commented on TikTok but copying here so it gets seen by someone who can help…our 4 month old chameleon we’ve had for about a week went from mint green to gray and spotty starting last night. We did just add real plants and started feeding him more variety in his diet (all based on your recommendations). I’m wondering if he’s either too hot or cold. We leave the lamp on 12 on/12 hours off and keep a heater in the room to maintain about 77 degrees. I will say I purchased the chameleon kit before finding these videos and we plan to upgrade asap. Any thoughts on this color change? He seems normal otherwise….thank u!!

    I know this video is 2 years old so expecting a reply is a long shot! But I’m hoping you or someone else can settle my nerves… I just brought home my baby chameleon yesterday. not a hatchling by any means but still a baby I’m still waiting to get the hatch dates but it’s still smaller than the palm of my hand. I set up her enclosure and Al thought I do want to add many more plants she still has multiple hiding spots to choose from. Now she’s currently shedding so I think this might be the reason for her behavior but I’m not positive. I tried releasing crickets and she showed no interest so I also put a couple in a bowl and all thought she keep staring at them she isn’t eating them. She also is continuously closing her eyes for long periods of time. And I know this is a sign of a serious health issue. I’ve checked her eyes as well as I could without handling her and they seem to be totally clear of any shed, she’s not even shedding near her face so I don’t think that’s the reason for her eyes closing. She also has been in the exact same spot on her branch right under her basking spot. I got her around 5pm yesterday and it’s the next morning so I’m not sure if it’s too soon to be jumping to conclusions but I just don’t want anything to happen To her. Her humidity is around 50% during the day and higher at night and temp is right above 80 F around her basking spot (working on getting better lights as I believe it’s a little too low and 85 would be better but correct me if I’m wrong) I’m really concerned and have reached out to the place I got her from but it’s still early so I haven’t gotten a response yet. So I’m hoping I might be able to just get some more advice on anything I might be able to do to help her in the meantime

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  Рік тому

      I'd say it's too early to be jumping to conclusions but I appreciate how diligent you're being. Like the video says, it can take them time to get adjusted to their new enclosures and be comfortable eating (up to 2 weeks). You didn't say what species you have so it's hard for me to comment on the temps and humidity ranges but most female species should have a basking temp around 80F.

I've seen he'm drinking once and never eat but i know he has been because i put like 20-25 crickets in the cage and when i cleaned it (i let him climb around in a safe area when i did) i only saw 15.

      Why are you unable to get store bought things? Those are needed in order for your chameleon to survive in captivity. In the meantime, you can take her outside as long as it is not too hot, and have her get some natural UVB that way. I have a female veiled chameleon she's very comfortable coming out to me and she knows when I'm going to take her outside. She seems to almost asked to come out sometimes by doing laps around the door. What I'm asking is.. is it safe to take her outside and let her walk around on the ground? She seems to enjoy it and always wants to get down and walk around me and bask in the grass. I stick very close because I'm terrified of bird is going to swoop in...lol seriously if I even see a bird I take her inside.. we live in a small apartment so I like to give her some outside time as we have a nice yard. She also seems to enjoy sitting on the tomato plants while I trim them she just hangs out in the sun or the shade depending on her mood. She's my first chameleon and I just want her to have a good life. Is this okay for her?

    • @NeptunetheChameleon
      @NeptunetheChameleon  2 роки тому

      Yes it is okay to take her outside, but I’m going to suggest you watch my video on how to take a chameleon outside to learn the signs of heat stress: ua-cam.com/video/H7FpgkhO4bg/v-deo.html You should also be aware that tomato plants are toxic for chameleons if they eat them so I wouldn’t let her climb that anymore.

      I recently got a veiled cham about 3-4 months ago and had LED lights as well. On the lowest setting, they provide the tiniest amount of stimulation and it was never enough to wake him or keep him awake. Additionally, different colors may provide more stimulation than others. I used to keep the red light on the dimmest setting and he was completely fine; but perhaps a green or blue light at night, even on the lowest setting, is still bright and could disrupt sleeping patterns depending on the environment or how close the lights are to the terrarium. From my experience, my chameleon will only wake or open his eyes when he detects movement and is able to sleep even when I haven't turned my overhead lights off! You should be fine with your LED's on at night, but I would recommend a red or purple color as they are the least 'bright' or 'stimulating' compared to blue or green.
