We just purchased our first chameleon and my son named him limme. He has a basic cage with a few shrubs. We will support your site for info so please don't be upset with the questions we ask. We are new but very excited and are eager to learn.
Home Depot definitely has some great options, even in Canada! Some things I don't think would do well in an enclosure because they dislike humidity and/or overwatering. Snake plants (dracaena) are better in desert enclosures because they don't require misting and prefer a dryer medium. Ivy are thirsty and fast growers but are pest magnets even in a humid environment, best to avoid getting spider mites on all of your other plants if possible. My chameleon loves his Philodendron varieties, both climbing and vining. Epipremnum and Scindapsus varieties also do well providing some vines and increasingly large leaves for coverage. Alocasia's love humidity and dislike to have the medium dry out too much so they're great for Chameleons. Even if they're not the most sturdy plants for climbing, a lot of them have leaves that allow water too pool on them and drip naturally for more hydration opportunities (Salazar uses a Dragon Scale or Pink Dragon for pooled/dripping water). Anthuriums would be the same and are also beautiful. Ferns are similar regarding care and coverage, but not something I use as most have thin, fragile leaves that are likely to be unnecessarily ingested more often. Orchids like Cattleyas or Dendrobiums have thick stocks for climbing and love bright light. Vandas (orchid) can be hung or mounted in the enclosure without medium providing insane visual depth as well as interesting coverage and climbing opportunities with the exposed roots. Owning a plant shop has definitely made building a great enclosure easier! Feel free to reach out to @Notanotherplantshop if ever you need some suggestions and I will be sure to help however I can!
This is super helpful. I just got a baby chameleon and will need some more plants for when he's older. ( He is like smaller than my pinky so I didn't get to many plants because I didn't want him to get lost.) Your videos have been super helpful for my research and helped me convince my parents to get him. Also he is the cutest little guy ever.

My panther chameleon loves his umbrella tree. I have to prune it quite a bit because it grows so fast. I’ve killed a pothos, croton, and cane tree so far but the rest of the plants are looking great!
New subscriber here, I found you from the chameleon academy. Now after binge watching almost everything he has to say. I am now here. Long story short my daughter decided to buy her bf a baby panther. He does not want it, after finding out how hard they are to care for and expensive so I am taking him on Monday. I have had my fair share of reptiles growing up and as an adult, so I do have a lot of experience with reptiles. But never got a chameleon because of the care and I was worried it would die. So here I am getting a lizard I thought I was only dreaming about is gonna be a real life thing! I knew the common stuff, they don’t like held, they a more of a watch and enjoy type pet, and stuff about the humidity and uvb and heat. What I didn’t know was the night cycle for the fogger and misting, and the misting at night and cutting out the 3rd mist! And now my love for house plants can be shared with my new member to the family. Until this video I was ready to just add only pathos haha cause I didn’t realize the there were so many other options. And like in the video I thought a lot of these would not be safe because they are not safe for my other pets, and google is not always right haha, because I have been searching for a list of safe plants and they are all different, no list is the same some said fiddle dogs are bad, croutons are bad. I am just getting so many mixed answers! And like I said my worst fear is he will die. But I worry about that with my snake, and my bearded dragon and my fish lol, so there is that too. So I am going around my house now to make his cage beautiful. And Home Depot and lowes tomorrow:) I have a huge monstera actually a couple of them( like 5 haha) are the safe for him? I also have a brazil philodendron that is beautiful and is like a pothos will that work? Oh the possibilities! Your channel is great! Thanks for all the time and hard work you are putting in. I have a whole new confidence that I can be a chameleon owner and actually know what to do and how to do it! One day soon I will tag you in a tik tok or instagram so you can make sure he is doing great! Love your videos! Sorry this is so long. But I am a extensive researcher and never in my life have I had to take in so much in such a short period because of the situation. I am more of a research for a year have a cage running and stuff all perfect for a few months with no animal kind of animal keeper haha. So this to me is STRESSFUL. But i have the experience with all different exotic pets, just not this particular one… he was more of a dream pet until now. Eeek I am going to own a real life chameleon!
I live not far from my local nursery. I bought two potholes. They even have hostas. Unfortunately I might have wait for the spring or summer. That's when the garden centers are open up.
It would likely be ok to use a liquid fertilizer if you removed the pant to fertilize it, but I would avoid watering a bioactive enclosure with chemical fertilizers, or watering a pot inside the enclosure to minimize possible spillage and pooling of fertilized water that may then be ingested. Consider using a heavily diluted natural fertilizer for your enclosed plants, like seaweed extract or worm castings if you need to use while in the enclosure. Hope this helps (or that you found the answer already previously lol)!

@@robertrosenfeld7458 Its been doing really well in our kitchen right by our sliding glass door!
@sky-qv2di did you end up taking it out of the enclosure. Because I just bought mine too and have been hearing the same thing. Just wondering how it worked out for you.
Hahah, at the moment you posted this video i was in the shop with plants and used it to determine whether plant i was looking at was good or not for chameleon. Thank you very much for this video, ended up buying croton. Neptune had one yeah?
Good timing! Yeah he had one for a few years until I killed it by putting it outside 😂
I just got new crotons for my chameleon and after a while I couldn’t find her so I thought she was hiding peacefully in her new plants but she was in top of the cage on the wire, maybe she’s scared of the plant? But it’s sooo sad
I don't think she is scared of the plant. Just give her some time to settle in and get out my video about screen climbing: ua-cam.com/video/ESa_VNfP07M/v-deo.html
Is it ok for them to eat creeping Jenny ?
Yes!
Did you take the chameleon to the store with you ?
No. Absolutely not.
@@NeptunetheChameleon the one shot just looked like he was in the plants in the cart that is why I asked ❤️
@@NeptunetheChameleon now that I watch back it was just the angle . It was the screen in the back
I noticed you mentioned ivy. Could I put English ivy in my cage ?
I would search on chameleonforums.com for English Ivy. I'm not familiar with that plant.
Hi I was wondering what weight should a adult male veiled chameleon be?
I looked on the chameleon forums but couldn't find anything. So I was hoping I could ask you! Can I feed my Veiled Chameleon a Wintergreen weeping ficus tree? (The leaves haha)
Thanks
Those are safe to use in an enclosure but you shouldn’t be intentionally feeding your chams plants. They should only be offered live bugs.
@@NeptunetheChameleon okay thanks (❁º◡º❁)
I looked up fiddle leaf fig tree and it says that they shouldn't have them
I’ve heard of lots of keepers successfully using them. Feel free to use other plants instead if it’s not something you’re comfortable with using :)
How do u tell if there is chemical on there ?
I don’t know of an easy way to tell so I just wash and replant all of my plants to be safe.
I keep my dripper over my plant but the plant keeps getting over watered and overflowing , what should I do
Try rotating plants or not having your dripper drip for so long.
I have a small Cham that has a small cage is it ok if I use a compact fluorescent bulb (two separate lamps) is that ok the t5 at a little overkill and two big?
Did you buy a chameleon from Framschams?
No I did not.
If so what was their name
Anyone know if it’s ok for me to have a majesty palm in my chameleons cage ???? New chameleon owner. Please spam me with tons of advice !!!
I don’t have experience with that plant. So it’s best to stick with the ones you know are for sure safe. Also I have 80+ chameleon care videos so be sure to check them out :)

Lets ask her to make a discord serverrrrrrrr
What's the benefit of making one? I don't use Discord...
@@NeptunetheChameleon One benefit is that most people on YT use discord, and it is highly customizable. You can have chameleon owners have a Q and A, discussion, and people can share their chameleons pictures for everyone on the server
@@NeptunetheChameleon there wouldn't be much use to it other than more of a community hub to ask questions and converse over reptiles/plants/chameleon stuff.
a chameleon discord community would be good to start, as there isn't any as far as ive searched.
i wonder what people walking beside her are thinking
She overdubbed the video. The audio you hear is a separate narration
The king's plant my sub adult veiled climbs around the floppy leaves.
Oooh that's great 🌿
Croton - no, because I have cats and don’t wanna risk it! (My own little note cause I’ll be re watching these videos haha) 😫
Why cant more reptile youtubers do this!!!!!
Hope it’s helpful!
