  • In this Sennheiser MKE 200 review I test the compact directional microphone on the new GoPro HERO9 Black, Sony a7S III, and iPhone XS. ↓↓↓
    As for the Rode VideoMicro Vs. Sennheiser MKE 200 test included in the video, to me it sounded like they were almost evenly matched having the fuzzy windscreen on with possibly a slight advantage to the VideoMicro. Without the added wind muff, it’s pretty clear that the MKE 200 won out with its built-in plastic wind shield. And I think that’s where its strength shines with the fact that you can run it bare in many cases and not have to worry about it, unlike the VideoMicro where the deadcat greatly adds to the size and is needed for that higher quality. That’s only my opinion, let me know yours in the comments!

    Liked mic A with fuzzy on but mic B without fuzzy.

    On the blind test I could easily tell which was which. Sennheiser have a distinct sound, which is not something I like, but I like the overall design. I have the MKE 440. But I need something with a lot slimmer form factor, so I’ve added the MKE 200. I will just have to play with the levels in FCP or see if I can improve it with the beachtech amplifier

    Sony a7S III and the iPhone XS had surprisingly good audio (if you ignore the wind). I'd love to hear how the MKE 200 would sound with a bit EQ (sounds like it needs a boost in the lower freq.)

      Look at the Frequency Chart shows it start to cut the low end at 400 hz ...
      Highs cut at 15KHz steep dive, drop off
      assets.sennheiser.com/global-downloads/file/16271/SP_1286_v1.0_MKE_200_Product_Specification_EN.pdf
      but they say "Frequency response 40 - 20,000 Hz " 😂 non-existent wtf

    Thank you for the review. I have a Sony HXR-MC2500 video camera which came with an external stereo mic. I like the stereo effect. I purchased ($130 CDN) a Sennheiser MKE200 mic because I wanted a decent boom mic. I have only run a couple of indoor comparison tests so my findings are not final. The Sennheiser is, by far a more powerful mic. I had to reduce the recording volume level in my camera by 30%.

    Great review. For recordings in the field with breeze, the MKE200 seems to be the better option.

    Rode sounded better, but I wonder if you just eq the MKE 200 if it would be better overall.

    Credible review and comparisons, Ryan. Well done. Gives special meaning to “field tested”😁; your brown jacket matched the terrain, too. My guess is that your pro-nature “nature” is why you dubbed the wind breaker as a “fuzzy” instead of the more pedestrian term “dead cat”. Smile.

      Fuzzy is just a much more fun word to say 100 times throughout a video, haha. Thanks for checking it out.

    MKE200 really has a cute shape, I kind like it, but I found it sounds has too much "ess" about freq 10KHz, I'm running my PC through an audiointerface which output to an equalizer hardware to reference, so I can see and hear in this video so many device whichever MKE200 is connected to, all has that 10KHz ess problem, and a pit around 40~70Hz, that make sound a little crystal but cold. The late part of the comparison, I found Mic A sound more warm and flat(no obviously dip in freq curve). But this is a good review should present, a lot of information, everyone can learn this product from it, thank you Ryan!

    Hi, thanks for the video. It was well demonstrated. I'm very new to this. And would like to get a mic to vlog and shoot travel videos. Do you think the mk200 would be a decent pick? I've come across some cheaper options (brands I've never heard of before) so I feel like Sennheiser might be more reliable. Anywho, please do share your thoughts. I'm curious what sort of mics do youtubers normally use when you see those camping videos with great nature sounds. Thanks

    Dang, this is the only review I could find that actually had a good review of the camera with and without the fuzzy.
    I was looking to buy the camera for a casual mic without a giant fuzzy and I think you showed it's good enough.
    Awesome review!

    Awesome review!! I have the Hero 10 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The sound of the Sennheiser MKE 200 sounds really good t me. It certainly cuts the wind extremely close to nothing. Have you come across a better solution without using the media mod as a patch through? I really don't want to add that media mod simply due to having a frame wrapped all around it. As you know, GoPro's are scared of the heat. Have you tested the MKE 400? Thanks again....... Great job! 👍😊

    is there any other cable that will work with this? it looks proprietary

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 роки тому +1

      Sure, just look up TRS cables. These are nice in that the microphone side is locking, but that’s optional.

    • @adventureproductionz
      @adventureproductionz 3 роки тому

      Ryan Mense i have a feeling that locking part would prevent the cable from fully inserting

    • @RyanMenseWildlife

    Is there any way to monitor and adjust audio levels?

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 роки тому +1

      Not on the mic itself. That would be done on the camera or whatever is recording the audio.

    • @CaesarDarias
      @CaesarDarias 3 роки тому

      @@RyanMenseWildlife Thank you. I actually meant to ask if there’s any way to monitor and adjust levels on iPhone while recording. And thank you for a real-world field demo. It was helpful. It’s now possible to do legitimate and quality ENG work with a phone. (Sounds crazy) As you know, however, there must be good sound. And with news, you rarely get a second chance.
