You can make the gopro footage better on manual settings with higher shutter speed. Action 4 does the same on very low light, also in that manually setting higher shutter speed resolves the issue. Though if the frame is too dark then the stabilization will break again. Still the Ace Pro on automode is doing superb job and definitely earns top stars for that performance.
@@kaltask1 you’re gonna get more noise if you raise the shutter speed. 1/1.3 inch sensors allow for less noise via less ISO if shutter and aperture are the same. You raise the shutter, you have to raise the ISO.
@@GnarlyBearMTB true and as stated if the image is too noisy or dark the stabilization will break again. But this footage could maybe had been fixed as in fix the stabilization with manual settings. You can denoise the footage after. not the best but I would do that if GH12 or OA4 had that issue while riding murky woods.
@@GnarlyBearMTB well it's not very usable footage if the stabilization is not able to kick in. The shutter would not be the same on both camera, in Gopro manually setting faster shutter it could have more and better images to adjust the image stabilization. Now the shutter is too long and image is bouncing around and all it has to adjust the stabilization is blurry images. Like taking a long exposure image and kicking the camera while you are at it. This is also why if the image is too noisy, eventually that can also break the stabilization. If the whole thing was "auto mode" battle sure Ace wins hands down and I am not saying otherwise. Even if gopro was set to manual mode, Ace would win. But if you have GP12 or Action 4 and have footage like that, it's good to know that there are options to combat that and not always just trust "auto" mode.
Are you saying the Gopro footage around 10:30 is all the best you know to do with a Gopro? Maybe you should have another 2-hour call, but this time with the Gopro team so they show you how to properly configure the camera.
It's the low light context. In order to actually resolve an imagine, the GoPro is having to automatically decrease the shutter speed to let more light into the sensor. The stabilisation requires a high shutter speed to function, and since it can't have that without producing an underexposed image, you get this horrid stuttering instead. You can literally see this happening if you know what to look for, as lower shutter speeds increase motion blur, and the GoPro footage has far more motion blur - pause it at any point and you'll see. In good light, both cameras would look far more comparable, but I guess that's the point of the test.

I'll start by saying, I can't stand my fkn GoPro 10 black, it's fkn unreliable, over heats to damn quick and in cool weather to spite me. @TechieTard go pro used to be, they had the action cam market closed off where as now I don't think they top it at all, these results are iffy but the insta is the better action cam atm. Finally something fresh and not a tiny incremental update over the competition. Just found out they even do Garmin overlays on your videos! No need to struggle with VIRB Editor. Would love to see that in action.
You have to buy their remote control to have GPS data with your videos. It's like the size of a watch face that you either wear around your wrist or attach to your bars. They can do low light video, but don't include a GPS radio? Guessing battery life will already be suspect enough with that processor and AI computation. Noticed NO ONE has mentioned ANYTHING about it. I'd stay away for now.
I bought the GoPro 12 with Max lens mod 2.0 yesterday anyway after days of watching comparisons since the field of view, especially vertically is still the best even without max lens… and that is important for POV with MTB … all the new insta360 Ace Pro „reviews“ are just focusing on 8k, lowlight, digital zoom …but that is only a part of the picture … I do not want to zoom in additionally when MTB POV especially not with the smaller FOV … just my opinion
This is for the better for the action camera market. Competition drives innovations. GoPro monopolized the market for a decade, and their cameras still heat up and freeze even when just recording on normal conditions.
big upgrades like this are great for competition, Gopro will 100% respond and every year these cameras keep getting better. Cant wait to see where these things are in another 5 years.
The GoPro Hero 7 Black had a low light option which worked fairly well. Did GoPro improve on this? Nah, because GoPro is no longer interested in creating an action camera, they want a vlogging camera that be can be on a nice, bright sunny day, but not too warm. DJI and Insta are creating action cameras with low light capabilities, their making GoPro look predestination. Will GoPro respond to DJI and Insta? Nah, they're too busy appealing to mom baking pizza in her backyard pizza oven.
DJI is still better than the Insta360…you can remove the lens and does a lot better in low light. The GoPro is 💩 and he knows it that’s why he chose the GoPro to compare against
@@loamchasers removable lens is over-rated. Slap a protection glass on top of the lens and even if you hit it it will break the protection not the lens!
The MTB test was very compelling. I evaluate all action cameras under their most challenging useage application. Low light, highlight recovery, auto ISO, exposure, color balance, stabilization, ease of use, reliability and how the video image holds up in color grading. As a pro videographer, I’ve had a number of different GoPros since Hero 2, currently using a Hero 10 (which I use infrequently). I swear I’ve always had so many issues using the GoPro’s. They’re always switching modes, recording/not recording unintentionally, constant issues connecting/reconnecting wireless remote, batteries not seating/charging properly in that stupid 2-battery charger, difficult touchscreen/menus, poor auto-ISO, exposure and color balance mgmt, etc, etc. Then there’s the super wide-angle lens I never really liked even though I often use wide angle lenses with other cameras. Only the most recent generation GoPro’s were of ANY use as an outward-facing camera (they were primarily selfie cameras until Hero 9). I’m usually only happy with GoPro footage when it’s on a gimbal. Contrastingly, my DJI drones and Pocket 2/3 always impress me and get WAY more use than GoPro’s, not to mention DJI’s constant innovation, variety in product lines, new releases, firmware upgrades, etc. The Mavic 2 Pro was so good, I got nearly 4 years out of it before upgrading. Now, this Insta360 Ace Pro looks considerably better than their other models, which, due to the poor image quality, I’ve never thought had a place in a professional edit, except maybe a D-camera novelty shot. Of course, it was more suited to some applications than most… i.e., a wingsuit or BASE jump. As I’ve never used an Insta360 product, I don’t know how easy and reliable they are to use, but the Leica lens, large sensor and superior image stabilization is very compelling. My more recent activities… WW kayaking, MTB and off-roading necessitates ease of use and reliability as I can’t be constantly f#
Two questions: 1. Did you look into heating issues at 4k30FPS? Comparison between HERO12/Action 4? 2. Do you think the production units will eventually go back to replaceable lens covers? I'm reading that some of the pre-production units have replaceable lens covers and some do not. Appreciate the video and I think those two things will be a show stopper for some.
I've never had overheating issues with the Gopro as long as you're moving (I ride motorbikes) and not stationary then there are no issues even on hot summer days.
@@NCER999nah that’s not accurate I ride as well and it’s not that simple. I’ve had the 9 10 & 11 overheat. 10 was the worst offender in the 6 months after launch. But all still do it. 9 is the best about it.

What a fake sponsored review. Love the blurry effect you put on the GoPro but next time take it bit easer will ya, some of us actually do know what GoPro looks in the dark with the correct settings and are harder to fool 😂 I don’t see the “dynamic range” increase in your shot whatsoever and GoPro actually did color grading and contrast to perfection in that shoot while the insta washed out as hell. You can see it on the histogram that the GoPro processed it perfectly while insta shot will need editing. 😂
Yeah, something does seem off with this video. I'm sure with it's much bigger sensor the insta360 would have an advantage with stabilization and cloudy/overcast conditions, but the gopro hero footage looks horrible. I've see other video's on this very same channel using older gopro's and they didn't look half as bad and I know my Hero 8 would produce better video and stabilization than what was shown here with the right settings. I would still stick to GoPro as insta360 usually has terrible audio quality.
@@LeeLee-fi7mx Agree. If I want “as good as I can get it at all cost, I’ll grab my pro gear and spend full day on 5min video shooting and editing at just right light conditions. The biggest sell to me on GoPro is when I don’t want to color grade and edit the hell out of my files and GoPro footage looks good enough out of box. It’s one thing they always got right. It hits the “average person’s” perception of “nice looking” just perfectly 90% of the time. Is it pro grade worthy footage particularly when it’s not sunny? Nope, no one would grab a GoPro for that. It’s all about balance. How many times did I take a cool photo with my iPhone. Could I spend much more effort and time setting up my pro gear and take a better pic. Sure. But that’s all I had with me and that is all the effort I wanted to spend in that moment. Sometimes you want OK footage while mount biking and not looking for award wining quality and execution to impress your friends and family.
What’s you go to settings then on go pro ? I have GoProhero 7 and personally I find it so hard to get good footage so I am very tempted with these new isnta360 (my mate has one and the footage is far better than I’ve manged to get )
I’ve watched a dozen reviews by now, so far none of them prefer GoPro over Insta360/DJI Action 4… GoPro does produce the worse image overall, whether we like it or not. Maybe GoPro 20 will fix this problem but I won’t bet on it
I just bought the Hero 12. I'm still happy with my purchase even after seeing what this new Ace Pro can do, but damn...that low light footage looks amazing. Also, the menu speed is amazing...finally an action cam that feels as responsive as a phone! I always thought GoPro painted themselves into a corner designing an using their own chip. It was good when the G1 first came out but now it kind of feels like they've run out of energy/money to keep developing their own silicon. They've had the G2 in their cams for YEARS and it shows...just navigating the menu is like using a smart phone from 10 years ago!
Yeah, exactly! That low light GoPro footage was really shaky but I still preferred it over Ace Pro cause it looked so artificial and the contrast was way too high.
I gotta call bullshit on this. I have never seen a go pro shake as bad as this footage. I shoot with a chest mount on a go pro and I have never never seen a video that looks that bad. All I want to know is does it reduce the go pro effect.
I got an X3 after seeing Vancanmtb's videos look so good, and you can get a better idea of steepness. Instacam definitely taking over the action cam space with all these killer cameras
I want to see an unbiased comparison between these. This seems very one sided only talking about the points where the Ace is better, all points that are valid don't get me wrong. For example when you mentioned the FOV being smaller you conveniently didn't mention the Max lens mod 2.0 you can get for the gopro which increases it's FOV further, which for POV footage is important. This is essentially one big advert and from reading the comments I can see it's working. It does look a great product, but of course it will when only the things it has over the Gopro are mentioned. As someone looking to get a new action cam this isn't all that helpful, as I know there's points that have be missed out on that make this not a comparison, just a biased advert you're getting money from insta and the affiliate link. People watching this need to not fall for this and watch some real comparisons. Crazy how easy it is to convince people with a blatant advert
Did you watch the video? I went over the field of view part and didn’t recommend the camera for chin and helmet mounted situations where the user would want the bars in the frame. Nothing wrong with being skeptical, but at least be accurate.
@@TheLoamRanger I did, you did say that, and then recommended the x3, which is a fine recommendation of course, but ignores the fact the gopro you're *comparing* it to has a detachable lens to improve fov. Just feels a bit disingenuous to disregard the fact for monetary purposes. What you're saying isn't incorrect, but just cherry picked to suit the narrative to mislead the viewer into purchase. I guess my problem is that it's made to look like a comparison video despite being an advert. I just think people should be aware.
What frame rate was used when filming? Did you follow the 180 rule? Will the camera work with an ND filter? Can we get lens attachments? Will we have to turn off stability to use low iso with the right settings? the dji osmo pocket 3 I feel seems more and more ideal having a gimbal for attaining the best shots using filters
I often film mid day in bright settings at dirt jumps or the motocross track. Needing to reduce 6 or more stops of light often. How can I get ideal footage there in the right frame right so things have a natural blur but stable video
The GoPro footage definitely does not look like it was shot at 60 fps/120 SS + ND; way too choppy which makes it look bad in an action smoothness test. It also doesn’t support 10bit, it would’ve been nice to see some color grading examples and not just the camera’s color science defaults. No mention of battery life or overheating issues which are probably good points when comparing it to a GoPro and given it has a new fancy AI chip helping with stabilization. If its only new feature is better frame by frame processing then that doesn’t seem like much of a tech leap. I’d definitely wait for actual consumer reviews before buying this right after the review embargo was up for tech UA-camrs..

Lens cover is not removable... thats not good for action cam
FYI The camera doesn’t have the AI warp feature because the processor isn’t good enough and is entirely app based. You also have to pay for it after 3 months, but they dont put that in the ad
For me, who usually rides an electric bike in the city at night, I doubt how good the ace pro will be. To secure shutter speed that does not cause warbling during vibration correction, a very fluffy suspension seat post needed. However, it also offers footage without motion blur. it is questionable that ace does not support 10bit.
Now, would that mode still be better to use in a night ride(complete dark) with your bike lights, or normal mode and bike lights I specifically run amber 4x4 pods
I actually prefer the colors of the GoPro in the dark trees comparison way more.. Curious if you shot on GoPro in 10-bit High Bitrate or just stock settings? Great comparison and cool to see the camera pushed in adverse scenarios
I only wish there was a non flip screen for a lower price with the better lens. No one has posted a comparison video of the two different Ace cameras yet
The shutter speeds seem to be different during the mountain bike comparison. There is much more motion blur on the GoPro, indicating the sensor is receiving more light resulting in improved sensor performance and less chaotic visuals. If this is so, the ace has a significant disadvantage and yet preforms much better. This may also be a difference in sensor readout speed. This seems extremely unlikely as the ace sensor is larger and has more pixels. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?
Yeah the gopro seemed to be put in the worst possible settings for those conditions, just to make the comparison worse - for the clicks I guess. I set the max shutter speed to 1/100 or 1/120, and all that blur is gone.
At 6:11 in the lower right corner you can see that the insta360 does not record any data like the Gopro12. At 7:00, it also matters where you set the fixed focus on the gopro camera. 7:52 I fell a week ago, only breaking my ribs and the little finger of my right hand, but at least I took it on video! :)
at 2:17 you mention taking off the lens guard, but on the link, it says: "Note: Pre-installed Lens Guard cannot be removed/replaced. Free repair within 1 year of purchase, excludes shipping." does it not come off/replaceable?
Great video. `did notice quite a lot of poor video compression on those mountain bike clips , see it on the sky at around 7mins, what caused that do you think? or is it UA-cam?
Sure is clearer but I think the GoPro had considerably better colors in all these tests. The AcePro seems to have quite bad white balance and it had a noticeable blue/green tint which kinda ruins the other improvements.
I have a couple of the insta360 cameras and one thing no one mentions is support after you buy it. If you need to have the camera replaced it will take about a month as it needs to be sent in and then they ship you a replacement from China. I have had to have a my camera replaced a couple of times and waiting a month to get it, was pretty disappointing. Also support is based out of China so it takes a day or two of back in forth to just get the process going.
All other factors aside, I greatly preferred the colors, white balance, and contrast of the GoPro in all the comparison clips. I realize you can likely squeeze a better result from the Ace Pro files if you're post-processing the video, but out of the camera the GoPro looks better except for the low-light blur.
Love your vids. As a photographer myself, this is a huge leap in action cameras! Your studio audio is crazy good. Any advice on getting better studio audio?
I wonder how well this will do in the cold with snowboarding? I'm done with GoPro. After years of trouble with gen after gen of GoPros I tried the GoPro 11 with their battery meant for cold weather. It worked until it didn't and battery died abruptly while mountain biking in a cool evening in the summer. Meanwhile, the X3 never has any issues in the cold, period. Looks like I’m selling the GoPro 11 and not going to even look at the 12. Insta360 Ace Pro for me.
Weird. Why did the GoPro seem to have some much vibration in the first scene, looked the same in the 2nd scene, and high vibration in the 3rd scene when talking about the low light functionality. Was the GoPro loose? Something seems off to me.
This is good. Gopro in the dark reminds me of my first cameras, the early gopros and various knock- offs. They would suck like that even in good conditions. I am happy for the competition and the tech, it got a loooong way!
Every camera sucks in the dark even my PRO camera that cost more then you bike, gear and action camera combined…sucks in the dark. It’s just that some suck more then others and some people are sponsored by those whose footage looks better 😂

what settings did you have for the go pro during that downhlll section? I've watched tons of GP biking footage that pretty much locked down when using the higher end stabilizer settings...
There are some common issues with mountain biking and action cameras. 1) how is the audio with wind noise compared to other cameras? 2) does it have ability to directly connect to wireless mics? 3) does this camera have one touch record (the one r and one rs did not) 4) is the lens replaceable if scratched? 5) how is the microsd door attached? 6) can it use 512 or 1 tb microsd cards?
@@BikeRidez That would be a bit of a silly move if it isn’t, seeing as all (most) other action cams have gone down that route. Which creator was that? Have watched a few but obviously not that one. So far though, it is looking pretty damned good.
HI, what about the dedicated Insta360 application for quick clip processing? How do the automatic clip generation functions using AI work? Quick from GoPro sucks mercilessly and the question is whether it won't be the same here...?
just to say, if you want better image quality in low light on gopro, just use manual shutter settings and put shutter to 1/120 or 1/240. Sure the light is less but with a good light it is ok
GoPro just keeps spitting out new "latest and greatest" models that never keep up with other current and always better cameras. GoPro fans remind me of Apple fans.
Holy shit! Finally someone who knows technical stuff doing review of action cam! You explaining sensor readout, dynamic range and pixel binning in such a way that makes it very easy to follow is amazing! Liked and subscribed!
Thanks for the comparison video. How would the GoPro Max stack up against these? Can you comment on which style of camera is best for capturing Onewheel or other skateboard rides? (Insta 360 Ace Pro vs. X3, or GoPro Hero 12 vs. Max)?
Is there any huge difference between ace pro and ace especially when it comes to low light video? because price of Ace only is cheaper than pro. Need a quick suggestion. Thanks
I’m stuck on Hero 8 and each year a new GoPro comes out and I check the specs, but nothing has shown any real improvement in low light. Now the ace pro seems to tick that box. In your review, you have mentioned the view is slightly cropped compared to superview and you would not run the ace pro on the chin for that reason. Which chest mount do you use, as I hate the GoPro one? I really do like my chin mount- almost eye line, plus you get the natural stabilisation of your head. Thoughts please.
haha that's the thing though right? Have you ever heard of a company *buying* people competitor cameras to make sure they compare them? That takes some serious confidence in their product.
How is the continues recording and the file splitting? On my Insta X3 I am always losing footage when the camera starts a new file after 28 minutes. My GoPros don't skip a frame.
Never had such bad quality from my GoPro. I am really happy with my camera. This is not a criticism, but I understood about 15% of what you were saying. As you can surmise, I am not an ex-video pro. Seemed you were making a sales pitch. Frankly I liked some of there GoPro video you took better than the Ace Pro video. Also, if you are riding at times of bad lighting without a headlight, i.e., in the evening or later, you ought to rethink what you are doing and why. Don’t see the need for a camera that records well in bad lighting. I just don’t ride in those areas or at those times.
@@RichardERTZuh…, it’s because the GoPro 12 IS inferior, and this is coming from a guy who has used GoPros for more than 10 years. Competition is good. Maybe GoPro will come out with a killer upgrade this year, but I’m not holding my breath.

Good comparison. Did you have hypersmooth ON when you filmed the bike downhill session? It seems bad stabilization on gopro, which is usually very good.
Could you do the bike test again but this time put the GoPro shutter on a 180 angle? the motion blur from gopro looks like a blur from a low shutter speed
Great video but I'm pretty confident your info about denoising after encoding is wrong. All cameras have to denoise prior to encoding as part of the image processing pipeline (debayer, denoise, sharpen, white balance, etc). Sensor readout -> process/denoise -> encode makes a lot more sense than readout -> encode -> decode -> process/denoise -> encode again.
For my Insta360 cameras? I've never personally had one overheat. I do live in chilly Canada and typically film fast motion with plenty of wind to keep things cool, which certainly helps.
Looks great. Only criticism of the i360 Ace Pro in evening Pure Video mode is that the stabilisation is doing this very odd like frame tweening every .5 seconds. It looks very unnatural. Like it bounces up, left, right.. this way... .5 second, then that way, .5 second. Now, I've been using i360 cameras for years now, and this very much looks like a software issue that they'll probably fix, but for right now, as detailed as the footage is compared to the GoPro I would say neither are usable.
I need something to capture my daughter's senior year of high school softball. My GoPro 9 no matter the settings, still can't capture the action plays once you try to zoom after recording. Any suggestion ? I've got one last shot to film her then it's college.🤧
10:45 - 10:55 is unfortunately what kills the Ace Pro for MTB in my eyes. Just doesn't come close to GoPro's Hyperview! Hopefully they get there with a firmware update or something, that would be an absolute Gamechanger.
Yeah he plays it down but is a dealbreaker for me. Not to mention the max lens upgrade available for gopro which increases that even further, which he also forgets to mention lol.
Does the GoPro 12 really shake that much? I feel like my GoPro 7 with Hypersmooth does a better job than the comparison footage in this review. Maybe stabilization was turned off?

The stability test was deliberately done in low light settings to show the difference between the two cameras. In order to compensate for the low light the cameras have to lower the shutter speed, which is impacting the stabilization quality of the GoPro. Since the Ace Pro has a bigger sensor, more light can be let in without having to drop the shutter speed, hence the stabilization also looks better. In daylight, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two cameras.
Finally something fresh and not a tiny incremental update over the competition. Just found out they even do Garmin overlays on your videos! No need to struggle with VIRB Editor. Would love to see that in action.
Garmin overlays?!?!?
Does their app allow to edit long videos or is it like GoPro where the only way to get overlays natively is to have stupidly short videos.
@@BIIIKESCan't you use data from your Garmin watches for the overlay?
@ivanekprochazka yes garmin, apple watches do give you overlay capability with this camera!!
Show the stabilization settings used for the GoPro in the side-by-side comparo.
Wondering the same!
No that is not good looking for insta then. Unfair comparison is he doing.
GoPro has a tough job next year especially lowlights 😹
Gopro sucks and is overpriced.
GoPro monopolized the market for a decade, and their cameras still heat up and freeze even when just recording on normal conditions.
they could have than that like since 10
they are overpriced too..
big upgrades like this are great for competition, Gopro will 100% respond and every year these cameras keep getting better. Cant wait to see where these things are in another 5 years.
Yeah GoPro will respond going bankrupt probably
All the cool stuff it can do means all the more stuff that can break, can cause you to miss a shot, I will wait for the 6-month reviews
Sad to say, GoPro is getting more irrelevant by the years...
Man, this new 360 cam makes bumbling down the trails look so good! Im getting one.
DJI is still better than the Insta360…you can remove the lens and does a lot better in low light. The GoPro is 💩 and he knows it that’s why he chose the GoPro to compare against
I see what you did there 😂
Looking forward to seeing it ALL posted on UA-cam!
@monipenny408 You said it. Complacency always bites you in the end. Just ask Intel, Qualcomm, Hasselblad, etc.
This video is so fake lmao watch any other go pro video and its not nearly as blurry
Two questions:
1. Did you look into heating issues at 4k30FPS? Comparison between HERO12/Action 4?
2. Do you think the production units will eventually go back to replaceable lens covers? I'm reading that some of the pre-production units have replaceable lens covers and some do not.
Appreciate the video and I think those two things will be a show stopper for some.
saw other reviewer few days ago said no overheating issue even for 4K30fps
I've never had overheating issues with the Gopro as long as you're moving (I ride motorbikes) and not stationary then there are no issues even on hot summer days.
@@NCER999nah that’s not accurate I ride as well and it’s not that simple. I’ve had the 9 10 & 11 overheat. 10 was the worst offender in the 6 months after launch. But all still do it. 9 is the best about it.
@@Fee.1 only time I ever notice heat is if I leave the gopro on by accident when not moving, only hot to touch, never had a shutdown from heat. 10 was more noticeable as I jumped from the 8. I've had the 11 and now 12 and don't really notice heat at all. I'm in QLD in Australia, so we get some hot days!
Fantastic review.
I feel like this is the first time I've seen an action camera perform the way I expect. Time to sell the old stuff!
What a fake sponsored review. Love the blurry effect you put on the GoPro but next time take it bit easer will ya, some of us actually do know what GoPro looks in the dark with the correct settings and are harder to fool 😂
I don’t see the “dynamic range” increase in your shot whatsoever and GoPro actually did color grading and contrast to perfection in that shoot while the insta washed out as hell.
Maybe GoPro 20 will fix this problem but I won’t bet on it
@@MD-gk4uhokay be honest with me here man. I wanna record me riding a dirt bike using a helmet mount what should I get?
I just bought the Hero 12. I'm still happy with my purchase even after seeing what this new Ace Pro can do, but damn...that low light footage looks amazing. Also, the menu speed is amazing...finally an action cam that feels as responsive as a phone! I always thought GoPro painted themselves into a corner designing an using their own chip. It was good when the G1 first came out but now it kind of feels like they've run out of energy/money to keep developing their own silicon. They've had the G2 in their cams for YEARS and it shows...just navigating the menu is like using a smart phone from 10 years ago!
Hero 12 looks better on actual use on the trails. you made a good decision! The Ace Pro looks too digital and choppy.
He captured them in lowlight. Its the go pro and dji weak point. I think this video is sponsored by insta 360.
@ollievann This looks like the latest thing on UA-cam: ad/review/comparison by omission...
Ohh great point, so now the question, will there be covers to put over or just have to eat the cost of a lens during a fall?
Thats a deal breaker for me
It's removable.🤦♂️
@@alexr4246it's removable.
@@lamefart Not for production cameras, it is not. Only preproduction units, which makes NO SENSE.
FYI The camera doesn’t have the AI warp feature because the processor isn’t good enough and is entirely app based. You also have to pay for it after 3 months, but they dont put that in the ad
All experts like to advise that the lid can be removed, but honestly, I have Gopro and I love it, but Insta360 sent it for cooling."
You must have been well paid to make the GoPro look awful against the Insta360 in this shameless way
10-bit footage? Flat/log? Can you lower the sharpening in camera?
10 bit no, flat yes, lower sharpening yes.
What about battery type and battery life? Guessing the embargo to discuss that hasn't been lifted yet.
Really excited about this clarity zoom feature, finally can capture from time to time detailed close-ups with an action cam.
Please can you do and insta360 go 3 vs one re twin comparison?
From my quick research based on your affiliate bank it's also about $130 more expensive than the GoPro. Worth mentioning😢
Now, would that mode still be better to use in a night ride(complete dark) with your bike lights, or normal mode and bike lights
I specifically run amber 4x4 pods
I actually prefer the colors of the GoPro in the dark trees comparison way more.. Curious if you shot on GoPro in 10-bit High Bitrate or just stock settings? Great comparison and cool to see the camera pushed in adverse scenarios
Probly not
That's what I'm saying too, it clearly has better color/white balance.
I'm gopro hero 7 black user, and I'm pretty happy with it. If something is newer I believe it exceed my expectations.
Yup frame rate is probably different which nulls the comparison. Resolution is probably the reason but still
Yeah the gopro seemed to be put in the worst possible settings for those conditions, just to make the comparison worse - for the clicks I guess. I set the max shutter speed to 1/100 or 1/120, and all that blur is gone.
Looked like a very fast shutter speed on the Ace, versus a very very slow shutter speed on the GoPro, assuming the ISO was not limited.
Great video! Am fascinated. BUT..... what about the audio quality? How many mics etc? Comparison on audio quality versus GoPro?
at 2:17 you mention taking off the lens guard, but on the link, it says: "Note: Pre-installed Lens Guard cannot be removed/replaced. Free repair within 1 year of purchase, excludes shipping." does it not come off/replaceable?
Great video. `did notice quite a lot of poor video compression on those mountain bike clips , see it on the sky at around 7mins, what caused that do you think? or is it UA-cam?
The dynamic range and vibrant colors make the footage come alive, truly impressed by the level of innovation that insta360 brings with the ace pro.
Sure is clearer but I think the GoPro had considerably better colors in all these tests. The AcePro seems to have quite bad white balance and it had a noticeable blue/green tint which kinda ruins the other improvements.
What about exporting that video 1inch sensor to your iPad or iPhone..., same flow than GoPro12...?
Hope Ace Pro's Active HDR fixes stabilization issues I've had on other action cameras, but keeps that image quality. Time will tell!
Insta360 raising the bar!
Action cams in the dark don't make as much sense anyway, Insta is better but still sucks.
Every camera sucks in the dark even my PRO camera that cost more then you bike, gear and action camera combined…sucks in the dark. It’s just that some suck more then others and some people are sponsored by those whose footage looks better 😂
@@MD-gk4uh I am not talking about pitch dark, but my overcast forests turned into blurry mess on my gopros and I really welcome companies taking those scenarios into consideration. Might wake one more generation, just in case ;)

What stick on mic covers do you run on your Insta360 cameras? I’ve been looking on Amazon and can’t find any with good reviews.
Your low light side by side comparisons are SO amazing. I'm sold on this for my planned MTB trip through the Colorado Trail in 2024.

@@AORNova lol ya I just got the osmo and I love it
There are some common issues with mountain biking and action cameras.
Can’t say about the rest, but it has the same removable lens guard/cover as the GoPro (says about the 2.16 mark)

just to say, if you want better image quality in low light on gopro, just use manual shutter settings and put shutter to 1/120 or 1/240. Sure the light is less but with a good light it is ok
So all the filming you did was with out ND filters. Do they make any for bright n sunny filming? Thx
GoPro just keeps spitting out new "latest and greatest" models that never keep up with other current and always better cameras. GoPro fans remind me of Apple fans.

How do you get the GPS data off the remote mine has no files in the in the video file ?
Wondering why no one mentions the non-replaceable battery of the 360 in the Gopro, Dji Action comparisons ?
It should be a crime not saying this in a literal ADVERTISEMENT for the Ace Pro
True indeed
I dont know what you've done to your gopro 12 black to shake like that, but you might be missing the AUTOBOOST or maxlens 2.0
You said you can take off the lens guard for filters? The first time I hear this, can you elaborate?
Holy shit! Finally someone who knows technical stuff doing review of action cam! You explaining sensor readout, dynamic range and pixel binning in such a way that makes it very easy to follow is amazing! Liked and subscribed!
What a killer review! You guys do such a good job.

Thanks for the comparison video. How would the GoPro Max stack up against these? Can you comment on which style of camera is best for capturing Onewheel or other skateboard rides? (Insta 360 Ace Pro vs. X3, or GoPro Hero 12 vs. Max)?
I hope this action cam is a sneak preview on the next 360° cam (X4 most likely). I'm still using the X2 and I'm waiting for the next big step.
Agreed! That would be incredible.
What microphone are you using when at your desk. The clarity and bass with it sitting 3ish ft away is crazy!
ohhhh sooo.... what kind of sourcery is that "tripod/handle/3-way" thingiemajigg?
Is there any huge difference between ace pro and ace especially when it comes to low light video? because price of Ace only is cheaper than pro. Need a quick suggestion. Thanks
I'm curious how the mic sounds. If its terrible, can you plug in an external mic?
I’m stuck on Hero 8 and each year a new GoPro comes out and I check the specs, but nothing has shown any real improvement in low light. Now the ace pro seems to tick that box. In your review, you have mentioned the view is slightly cropped compared to superview and you would not run the ace pro on the chin for that reason. Which chest mount do you use, as I hate the GoPro one? I really do like my chin mount- almost eye line, plus you get the natural stabilisation of your head. Thoughts please.
You had me at ‘ They offered to buy ME a GoPro and DJI’ … ya sure. Not Biased at all😅
haha that's the thing though right?
100% Agreed = this video made it look like the GoPro 12 is shit, definitly something wrong with this video, sorry 👎
It’s a sales pitch. That’s the problem with sponsored UA-camrs. Not an unbiased opinion.
Dude definitely made the GoPro look bad on purpose 🤦🏻♂️ that said the Ace is still an amazing camera.
@@RichardERTZuh…, it’s because the GoPro 12 IS inferior, and this is coming from a guy who has used GoPros for more than 10 years. Competition is good. Maybe GoPro will come out with a killer upgrade this year, but I’m not holding my breath.
Is it dual gain? With to processing power to seamless mix several images into a HDR video.
How is the battery life? One of my biggest issues with my GoPro is it only lasts 60 minutes on a charge
Thank you for your review... the thing I don't understand is if the insta360 Ace Pro has the horizont lock functionality that the gopro and dji action have
Good comparison. Did you have hypersmooth ON when you filmed the bike downhill session? It seems bad stabilization on gopro, which is usually very good.
Could you do the bike test again but this time put the GoPro shutter on a 180 angle? the motion blur from gopro looks like a blur from a low shutter speed
Can you confirm that you can take of the lens guard, as from other reviews I have watched they are saying you cannot do this?
Great video but I'm pretty confident your info about denoising after encoding is wrong. All cameras have to denoise prior to encoding as part of the image processing pipeline (debayer, denoise, sharpen, white balance, etc). Sensor readout -> process/denoise -> encode makes a lot more sense than readout -> encode -> decode -> process/denoise -> encode again.
When you have Leica involved you know it’s going to be good 👌🏼
How is the over heating? This is the #1 issue I have with GoPro is over heating and camera freezing causing loss of footage
Not to mention the max lens upgrade available for gopro which increases that even further, which he also forgets to mention lol.
do you have a comparison between Osmo Action 4 and Ace Pro?
I have a hero 12 and the footage you showed on the mountain biking looked nothing like what I get on tech trails. Not sure whats going on about that?
Does the GoPro 12 really shake that much? I feel like my GoPro 7 with Hypersmooth does a better job than the comparison footage in this review. Maybe stabilization was turned off?
Stab was on. This was just an *extremely* low lit situation
Interested, was the gopro using stabelisation in the comparrison? didnt look like it?
Because as he mentioned he enters the dark spots of the forest, when in low light situation, the stabilization on the gopro getting worst, u can see another review specifically for gopro… bye2 gopro, ALL Hail insta360
Stabilization suffers on low light conditions. This is true to most action cams
Imoressive, but for underwater use, snorkeling I am wondering if the tilting screen may make the camera leak eventually. it seems a weak point.
Have a question? does it turn off when it gets overheated?
Would love to see an update vid once u have used it a while... What are the issues & downsides.... Like any overheating, battery life, glitching etc... GoPro has all these on later models... With such a powerful chip this camera must surely have...
