Interesting. I do speed periodically but never get tagged for it. Years ago I had a cheap detector and I hated all the false alerts. Most appealing feature you mentioned was quieting alerts at low speed. For me this would be the best feature, if not speeding, I wouldn't mind knowing that I being radar monitored but I certainly need something shrieking at me. I was recently visited by a friend with a radar unit in his porsche. It false alerted a lot, which I certainly wouldn't want. Mostly this seems like spending a lot of money to have something annoy you.
In addition to the things in this video, I get Ka 33.7xx falses from satellite dishes. After doors and BSM it is the third most common source of falses for me. Fortunately, I don’t have a lot of 33.8 around me, so if I see that 33.7xx, I can somewhat be confident it’s a false.
Traffic sensors that have frequency drift can't be locked in. I've noticed the detection will start out at say, .100khz then fluctuate 8hz or more. Detector just can' t lock on. But I like your fix. "You need a more "modern" detector. Sure, lets drop $500+ every so often so we can block out false alerts. If the manufactures allowed you to block out a certain frequency, that would be better. As far as being "risky", I've yet to see where the police share the same frequency band(s) for speed detection vs CAS on cars.
Which detector do you run? It's true that the frequencies from fixed radar sources like auto door openers can fluctuate with things like temperature, but that's what auto lockouts are for. If the frequency changes, the lockouts get updated automatically. Certain apps like V1Driver even monitor for frequency changes over time to make tighter or wider lockouts as need. As for traffic sensors, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but those are filtered via a setting called Traffic Sensor Rejection which operates independently of signal frequency. As for needing a modern detector, that's in reference to filtering out nearby cars with blind spot falses. Newer detectors are better at this because they're both more capable and actually designed for modern threats. Older detectors simply weren't designed to filter out those false alerts. As for risky, yes police operate on K band just like auto door openers, speed signs, and CAS systems. Again you can look into more sophisticated implementations of GPS lockouts to help reduce the chances of inadvertently locking out a police officer if that is a concern for you. Here's a quick video from years ago that illustrates the differences in lockout implementations. ua-cam.com/video/mIoVVSmuAdA/v-deo.html
Hi! I live in Hawaii and am in the market for a radar detector for my Audi etron. The car uses radar capabilities. What's the best unit I could purchase but that doesn't break the bank? I have a friend selling a Cobra 2 in 1 radar and dash cam for $250 - is that a good deal?
I had to disable K band entirely on my R3, due to false alerts from Honda vehicles. Having K band enabled allowed me to detect those YOUR SPEED IS signs, in work zones.
I have an old external laser detector or radar detector (don't know which ones I have) and apparently the sensors are going off with nothing around and I don't know how to fix it.
So, I brought the Uniden R7 from USA through amazon, but it’s doesn’t detect redlight camera, but when there is no camera so much K band and x band detecting, what should i do for this?
I just bought a Uniden R3......... It falses a lot on laser, especialy when the laser is hot by the sunlight. One time I was in my garage and it told there was a laser (after a drive at noon). Do you see this happening? Is my unit bad? I know laser is just a ticket notification and not why to avoid anything, I should I just disable laser?
+Alejandro Salinas That is strange. Usually the complaint on laser is that it’s not very sensitive and people aren’t getting enough alerts. Try posting on RDF and see what others are seeing.
Does anyone have an update on this? I bought an R1 6 weeks ago and it has been giving me constant laser false alerts. It's so bad that I have learned to tune it out, and as a result I got a ticket for 68 in a 45 three days ago. It is driving me nuts. I may try to return it
I got laser-ed last night going 10 over. I immediately slowed down to speed limit and just went on my way. Never actually found the cop, I guess I got lucky!
hey vortexradar do any cop radar guns use the same frequency as speed signs or automatic door openers so if I GPS lock out one of them and then a cop is sitting next to them the next day can they get my speed without my detector alerting?
I didn't watch the video because my battery is low but i don't want to forget the question. why does my v1 keep throwing laser falses? seems like it's from my car. i actually like laser detecting because i feel like the cops out here give second chances so if i get hit i slow down immediately and they hit again to confirm. anyway, is there a way to find out how to minimise the laser coming from my own car?
Typically it's falsing to other nearby vehicles with laser based collision avoidance systems. Mazdas, Infinitis, and Volvos seem to be the biggest offenders. I typically shut off laser detection on the V1 for this reason and rely on my ALP's instead. Works better this way. This video will be of help with the V1 and laser falsing: ua-cam.com/video/SEvjQEVO65k/v-deo.html
my escort 8500 always goes off when a honda is around....its annoying. i wanted to upgrade but seems like the new modern detectors will still go off so i may as well stay put
@@VortexRadar i see... I saw you talk about that radar detector and your top radar for 2019 but it lacked other features I want. The R3 is what I want. Do you think the R3 filtering is better than the 8500? I never noticed any GM vehicles but it's always a Honda or Acura
uhhh jammers don't make a laser gun report a higher speed. They make it unable to acquire a speed at all. As for legalities, it's true that they are illegal in some places, but speeding is also illegal in many areas and the penalties are far worse. In fact if you use your jammer properly (quickly slow and kill your jammers when shot), they often won't know you have them. It's a common concern.
It makes sense, if there are two antennas that are a distance apart, and the frequency they emit are off by a significant margin it would make sense that it would do that. Then again I am 16 and want to go to college for radio engineering, I do educate myself. I know a lot about FM and AM radio propagation, and i'm applying those to this, if it's the same as Doppler radar then the Doppler effect would cause that.
I have a radar detector IXC and scanning bar lights are not working where should I take it to fix anyone who knows where I could get it fixed please let me know

Partially, yes. You’ll still get 24.162’ish falses from them.

Since some cars like Acura give off a K band signal, if a cop hits that car with his radar will he get a false reading or no reading on that car?

Laser detector is useless..by the time you get the alert, they have your speed.
And laser jammers are illegal in a lot of places, jammers also commonly will make the laser report a higher speed than your actually going.
