Absolutely outstanding version, 1 of the most underated songs of 1990, brings back so many memories of that summer & the place i was at in my life, lonely, falling in love, youthful optimism & cynicism in equal measures.
I have this on a vinyl single, I bought in whsmiths one Saturday while I was doing work experience at their Southport branch. I miss being young and stupid sometimes 🤠
I grew up in Southport and used to buy music in WH Smith, Woolworths, Virgin Records in the eighties and much later the HMV. WH Smith and Woolworths had a great selection of singles and albums.
I have just searched high and low on google and youtube to find this version. I didnt know the name of the artist, just what it sounds like. I didnt realize there were so many versions. I knew there was a 90's version. THIS is the best version in my opinion and the one I was searching for. The vocals are all brilliant, but its that guitar solo that stuck in my head, soon as I heard that i knew it was the version i remembered and liked best.
This is the first version of this song i heard. I prefered this than original. I only rembered a woman with long brown red hair with a flower and after 30 years i came across it again. Lol.
I have spent AGES looking for "that song with the girl who used to be a children's TV presenter" I finally established that the lady in question was Siobhan Maher.
Ihad the pleasure of meeting this very beautiful woman and the guys in the band at Warwick University, England where they performed brilliantly. Their version of California Dreaming (Quite the best) had just been released and they were waiting anxiously to find out how it was going to do in the charts. She still has an amazing voice, is married and lives in the States. They should have gone much further than they did in the UK. I have their albums and love their songs and their sound.
Agreed. I saw them live at Birmingham NEC supporting Don Henley in the 80s. They put on a great show and this is an excellent cover of a brilliant song!
Clive Walley It is through this version of the song that i got to know it back in 1990 i think, was a young lad and it brings back so many memories. Ever since i heared so many versions of it i have forgotten about it!
A rare exception where a cover is far better than the original and I mean FAR better. Bought this on CD single when it was first released back in 1990.
Many thanks for post this video. It reminds me of the Itala 90 world cup finals , i was on holiday on the cheshire ring (Canal Boats) at the time and bought this single from Andy's records.
I had the great privilige of driving this band around whilst they were promoting this single in 1990, great people and a great cover........oh and a great job.
I may be wrong BUT I went to see fleetwood Mac at the old Man city ground 30+ years ago and the concert started with river city people (fab) followed by Hall & Oates and finally the mighty Mac - best gig ever X rip Christine xx
I was born a few years before they released their 1st album. My aunt gave my parents a TAPE and we used to listen it in trips by car. I was only a child, but I remember the songs, and they evoke me places and memories! Today,my ¿taste? have evolved.I found them songs a bit poppy, but also familiar. The 1st album imho is well composed and arranged (not like many bands from today, which are mainly a business) I wonder how my aunt got the album: Spain,1990, no internet, no piracy, no famous band.
I know this comment is very old, but anyway. Their singles were definitely played on the Spanish radio. That's how I got to know them and purchase their first album shortly after.
I actually saw these live way back in 1990 (think it was '90 anyway) At the Preston Guild Hall. I went to see OMD ('Sugar Tax' tour) These were the support act as well as Gary Numan! Fantastic stuff.... Takes me right back. I still love their version of the song - had it on in the car this morning. Driving in the Sunshine with the windows down and this track playing - don't get much better than that!
Has anyone noticed in River City Peoples they say the lyrics "got down on my knees & BEGAN to pray, while in the Mamma & Pappas they say "PRETEND To Pray'.Love both versions.
Never better the original, only better than original I can think of is Joni Mitchells Woodstock done by Matthews southern comfort, now that is better than original version.
Can't believe there have been 13 people don't like this song, "The thirteen ghosts" :< Though we know this is not the original song, I love the original one from The Mamas and the Papas, too.
It is superb to play on level of the guitars. Cheer, the singer sings very well. I would like to have the part of solo is longer as in the original song. Good continuation and still cheer with all.Pat(Seventies Guitarist)
the B side of this song was called Carry The Blame of which I have on vinel, been trying to find a CD verson of this everywhere and one the other singels Standing in the Need Of Love, the B side was Like An Angel another hard to Find record on CD
My great wish is to live to see a day when this video is released on DVD but only in PAL format in the original 4×3 aspect aspect ratio (720×576 pixels). NTSC version would mean just the deterioration of the picture quality (cropping or lower resolution of 600×480 pixels).
Saw them play at Manchester University and they were really good, A few years later met Tim Speed with a new band, he asked me what I thought of the new stuff, I spent many minutes telling him how good the River City People were Don't think he was too impressed I reallt shouldn't driink at gigs:)
Veľmi sexi speváčka... škoda, že všetci musíme zostarnúť tak rýchlo... krásny hlas...
❤❤❤
Best cover version ever
Lana Lane another great cover for this song ;-)
I saw them live in the 90s. They were brilliant and should be respected more .
Absolutely outstanding version, 1 of the most underated songs of 1990, brings back so many memories of that summer & the place i was at in my life, lonely, falling in love, youthful optimism & cynicism in equal measures.
Well put 👏
I have this on a vinyl single, I bought in whsmiths one Saturday while I was doing work experience at their Southport branch. I miss being young and stupid sometimes 🤠
At what age did you stop being stupid? (asking for a friend).
I grew up in Southport and used to buy music in WH Smith, Woolworths, Virgin Records in the eighties and much later the HMV. WH Smith and Woolworths had a great selection of singles and albums.
Great voice, great cover, great guitars, ...... AND a gorgeous redhead... Whats not to like....
One of the few covers that is better than the original in my opinion.
Totally agree.
It sure is.
are you all delusional
@@adamhollander4 Yes, it's the drugs! :¬P
People are allowed their own opinion.
Great cover but not better than the original by any means.

It’s great, yes.... but have you heard SIA? Goosebumps!
Great band. Fabulous version of this track.
👍❤️👍❤️
Id forgotten about this brilliant version, brought back a few memories of the early 1990s!
I have spent AGES looking for "that song with the girl who used to be a children's TV presenter" I finally established that the lady in question was Siobhan Maher.

another amazing export from Liverpool !... really great band and good cover
they were crap
Brilliant version - Great group :-)
I had the pleasure of seeing this band live when I was younger. They were great, totally underrated.
Fantastic version of a classic song
Lovely
A rare exception where a cover is far better than the original and I mean FAR better. Bought this on CD single when it was first released back in 1990.
Nice cover and what a very pretty girl!!
I loved this when it came out. Such an amazing performance, it's worthy of the original and maybe better...
Totally overlooked band they did an awesome cover.
best version, best back vocal harmony, great main vocal for this song
I met them in HMV in Leeds on Release Day. they signed my LP and CD Single. Nice People.
Many thanks for post this video. It reminds me of the Itala 90 world cup finals , i was on holiday on the cheshire ring (Canal Boats) at the time and bought this single from Andy's records.
What a great version of a brilliant song
Remember this song from the summer of 90. We were haulin sand out of the quarries in Cheshire
You can download the MP3 Album from Amazon. Thanks for posting this.
I had the great privilige of driving this band around whilst they were promoting this single in 1990, great people and a great cover........oh and a great job.
It's a beautiful song I had ever heard thank you.
Such a wonderful cover
This group were epic. Their first album was brilliant and still remains as one of my most played albums 23 years later.
I absolutely love this version. Reminds me of waiting for my GCSE results.
Awesome video. Fantastic song. 💕🍀
Excelente versión!! Gracias por compartirla!! Saludos desde Rosario Argentina
I never knew until yesterday that the highly attractive Siobhan from Children's BBC when I was younger used to be a singer!
I may be wrong BUT I went to see fleetwood Mac at the old Man city ground 30+ years ago and the concert started with river city people (fab) followed by Hall & Oates and finally the mighty Mac - best gig ever X rip Christine xx
very crisp production. i like!
I used to be in love with her when this video came out. I think I still am. She's just beautiful.
I was born a few years before they released their 1st album. My aunt gave my parents a TAPE and we used to listen it in trips by car. I was only a child, but I remember the songs, and they evoke me places and memories!

I seem to recall that the band were religious.
Better than the original! Love it ❤️❤️
1st made in 1960s yes give a10 (mamas and papas) 2nd 1990s by river city people give round 5
Actually I'd put the original first then Bobby Womack's version, then this.
Never better the original, only better than original I can think of is Joni Mitchells Woodstock done by Matthews southern comfort, now that is better than original version.
absolutely love this song & version......equally as good as the original!
increible!!!!!! brilliant song, takes me back
Can't believe there have been 13 people don't like this song, "The thirteen ghosts" :<
Though we know this is not the original song, I love the original one from The Mamas and the Papas, too.
I'm impressed that they took what looks like a full drum kit into the woods for this video and didn't fudge it with just bass, snare and hi-hat.
Brilliant cover-brought a whole new vibe energy and sound to an already great song. First time I heard it was today and had to download it
Merry Christmas xx
I knew this song from this group in 1991 & was entrance by it for many years. Oh nostalgia 😭
Love this tune! Love Steven 💕
An excellent cover.

Just perfect... The way it should be. :-)
Το είχα δει μαθητής πριν το 1994; Καταπληκτική δουλειά,καταπληκτική εκτέλεση.
I loved RCP! We first saw them supporting Tina Turner at Woburn and then a couple of times later in Liverpool.
What a lovely cover.
Outstanding.
It is superb to play on level of the guitars. Cheer, the singer sings very well. I would like to have the part of solo is longer as in the original song. Good continuation and still cheer with all.Pat(Seventies Guitarist)

Great version by fellow Liverpudlians. Capo 5th fret. She isn't hard on the eye either.
Красивая песня, красивая женщина. Песня моей молодости.
excellent..

Say Something Good was the album that this track featured on, and the other album which was good was This Is the World
Это прекрасная музыка и группа
