She mentioned in one interview that although it wasnt a lead role ( comepared to Kim of Miss Saigon), she worked harder in playing Eponine because it's historically a "caucasian" role and getting that part is like banging your head on the wall repeatedly until it cracks open.
But have you truly cried if you haven't seen Lea and Michael Ball doing A Little Fall of Rain? 🥲
She has fantastic mouth movement and diction. I always appreciate a singer who can also act while singing a song. It's so much more believable and pulls you into the feeling of the song to evoke emotions. She is a true artist, very rounded.

I must admit during my first viewing of Le Mis' I was not expecting to like it as musicals are not my thing, but now this one is my absolute fav concert/musical,Lea is outstanding and she is easily my favorite vocalist in the show,does not go out of character at all and, for me,her voice is out of this world.
It is such a great musical and Lea is incredible!
When I saw this show for the first time I didn't know a single song. I reacted to every song as you are doing here...I cried, and fell in love ....for me it is the perfect musical....and no-one sings this particular song as well as Lea... brilliant.

The diction, the enunciation, the pronounciation, and the clarity is above what great is!

I loved this review. I'm a fan of the Samantha Barks version. I love her voice and her use of limited vibrato (compared to many other singers) but like you pointed out about her motions and expressions, Lea really makes you think she's IS the character.
oHh I cried again, for me, she is the best Eponine! A legend and icon, the only one who sang two singing voices for Disney and for her role in Miss Saigon, the only Filipina, Asian or a person of color to have received best performances in Olivier and Tony awards. And then I learned new things and tips again in singing (pls make no mistake, am just a singer in my home, for the love of music hahaha). It' okay to cut the music video review from time to time when you see something worth sharing because that is educational, besides, I am so enchanted and disarmed by your gorgeous face and knowledge of music, spontaneity, sincerity, humility and honesty to share your talent, you are just lovable, how can i not fall for you.. hahaha stay safe, sweet and charming,

Beautiful vid Nick. I have seen Les Mis live 3 times and I actually saw Lea Salonga live in London in Miss Saigon many years ago. A true star. And speaking of tissues, I am getting ready to go perform in Considering Matthew Shepard tonight and tomorrow afternoon.
Lea is so amazing, nothing she does ever surprises me. But I have seen this performance several times and it still gets me every time. I don't think there is anyone on Broadway who sings better or more character-wrapped.
I seen her sing this once and I was in tears it was SO beautiful.

I've just seen Lea Salonga live in Stephen Sondheim's "Old Friends" at the Gielgud Theatre in London.
She was very good, and sang a couple of Mrs Lovett's songs too!
You're young but talk sense unlike other reactors who can just blurt "she's good" without really knowing the technicalities behind the musical !!

Appreciate how much you love this phenomenal performance... several months ago, I watched another reaction, from a Broadway singer, who complained that this is such a 'old-fashioned' way of singing that wouldn't work on today's stages, that it should be belted out. Nah... perfect technique, emotion, acting? I'll take that any time. Thank you for this.

You must watch the entire 10th Anniversary of Les Miserables. It is arguably the greatest ensemble of Les Mis performers.
This is my absolute favourite song in the show. When I'm at a performance, the first notes are enough for my eyes to close and my emotions start to well up. The only other song that does that is Finale B in Rent 😭
This entire performance was amazing. What I loved best was the ending lines and how she delivered them.

This, along with David Phelps doing O Holy Night, Jona doing Over the Rainbow, and Sohyang doing Bridge Over Troubled Water, all live and available on UA-cam, are four of the most amazing live performances I have ever heard.
sohyang sounds like a tin, it's annoying to the ear. Im not a fan of her, the quality of her voice is not good for my ear.
And she sounds like she has a cleft palate. Pronunciation and enunciation is bad

Yes, yes, I agree with you every single word! I'm from China and I still remember the first time when I heard this song by Lea Salonga, it was when I was 17 years old. I bought a DVD of this 10 years anniversary version of Les Miserable and I fell in love with this musical instantly. Back then, my English was terrible but it doesn't affect me understanding the plot, the character's feeling through Lea's performance. Her version of this song is THE BEST of all time in my world! Also, it's very difficult for a non-native speak to pronounce so clearly, let along it's a musical performance. I know that later on she also played the character Fantine in this musical, but I still think this role Éponine fits her the most. I'm so glad to find your video. Absolutely love it! Thank you so much!
"A world that's full of happiness that I have never known". When Lea sings the lyric of known here it is one of the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. She is great in the whole song. I first heard this song in 2003 and wish I would have heard sooner. Better yet would have been to here it live. I am full of happiness every time I hear her sing.

Jovito Salonga was not Lea’s father. Her father was rear admiral Feliciano Salonga. Simple google search will give you this info. Peace.

Just a trivia… as per Lea there are two Leas in the family, so the other Lea is the way how you pronounced her name… here in the Philippines we pronounced her name differently Le as in lemon (short e) and a as in apple two differentiate the two of them.

"Greatest Musical ever" You got a sub RIGHT THERE... ;) Lea Salonga aside... Les Mis is a masterpiece :P Lea's work with Disney is well known ... as for Les Mis she has done both Fantine and Eponine :) This 10th Anniversary production at the O2 in London was probably the best Les Mis show EVER. :)
