Lea Sonlonga does a great job playing Fantine. Difinantly one of the best performances. I will say that my favorite Fantine is Ruthie Henshaw. Her version of "I Dreamed a Dream," for me is unbeatable. Certain spots where she adds rasp to her voice for great effect. Also, when Ruthie and Lea's voices come together at the end of the 10th Annaversary is pure magic. Add in Colm Wilkinson's voice with them and perfection. Great reaction. Love Lea Solonga's voice.
Seeing Lea perform this live on Broadway made me "feel" this character for the first time ever. I never connected with Fantine before seeing her do it. Quite simply, she brings an emotional depth to the part that equals her unparalleled vocal talents. I cannot get enough of Lea (or Les Mis for that matter).
A true dedicated performer. She has taken such great care of her voice that it has hardly changed, hardly aged. Really, a feat! And the diction, of course. Only few compare!
i really love your analysis every time you give your reaction to a song or performance you are reviewing. i never get tired listening to your reviews. very professional. well done nick!
Keep in mind that there were 15 years between the time that she sang Eponine and the time that she sang Fontaine. So it makes sense that her voice had aged a little bit.
Once I sang a medley from Les Mis in a choir, and as a soprano I have trouble with the low notes in "as they tear our hope apart". Will try to follow your tips!
Auww... this makes me want to sing this song with my own (not opera style). Of course, I have to lower the key. You have said "Don't be scared" in your teaching video... so why not trying, right ? 😀
Perfect vessel indeed! Excellent eval!! Please evaluate her other song, this time from a character of an older woman obsessed with love for another person - ua-cam.com/video/NbtSY3Vrkx4/v-deo.htmlsi=MDOIhBQOIn_SM_4w
I just searched your video page and I cannot believe that you have never reacted to Shoshana Bean. what a travesty, indeed may I suggest you reacting to her sitting on the stool with the piano, and nothing else accompanying her as she emotes and flawlessly sings she used to be mine.
I love lea..she’s just perfect
Are we allowed to listen to Lea without crying? I know that I can not.
