You guys have SACRIFICED so much. Your family, your wellbeing, your sanity, your sleep... Thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. You are an inspiration. It's one thing to sail around the world but to sail aroundthe world and FILM the whole thing in regular high quality videos is an equally big achievement in itself. You are a genuine, measured and modest couple. No drama and no naked clickbait thumbnails. Just you. You had only had each other and whilst we may not have seen all the tiffs and arguments its clear the foundation of your relationship is strong. You have changed my life over the past 5 years. I took up dinghy sailing hecause of you both and your story. One day I hope to follow in your footsteps. Welcome home guys. You deserve every success in life. ❤
You are without question absolute masters of videography and storytelling. I’ve watched you from your very first video and have loved every second. Thank you so much.
Hello Amy and Matt, I have been following you since Cape Town and I cannot believe that this dream will stop. What else could I watch during my sleepless nights in Paris with similar intensity and pleasure ? Thank you so much for the opportunity you offered me to live by proxy those moments I would have loved to live in reality and for which only some kind of nostalgia is left to me…
Well that sounds cool, but any jeweler will tell you you have to have a setting for any gem. You forgot it. May I propose that Florence is the setting? Maybe Florence is sterling silver. Gold is too soft to be a good setting. We are ALL waiting to see a ring on Amy's finger. Come on, Matt, what ya waiting for? She's proven, man.
Jay, my comment was more meant because in the UK we call guys 'diamonds' when they're really genuine, nice, all-round good guys. It's a British coloquialism (in London they talk about 'diamond geezers'). I guess Amy being 'the jewel in the crown' was kind of with the Queen in mind, even tho' we don't have one any longer. I had no thoughts of them being married & in a way I think it'd detract from things.....marridge isn't something I believe in & it also hints at them starting a family etc which would be the end of the sailing as we know it! @@jaywinters2483
Admittedly, sailing is just moving your boat through the water with wind power, as we all do, but nothing makes me appreciate sailing as much as the way you depict it in your videos! It is a combination of the seas, the skies, the island tops, the regular and fast motion, the mood-setting music, and the scenes you pick to show that are what most of us might see in a glance while rocking back and forth all day long in the cockpit contemplating life. It is this serenity "that takes you away to where you're going" in a manner that calms the spirit and enriches the soul, and reminds me why I sail. And I thank you! I wish I had remembered to note your subscription count a couple of months ago, because it seems to have at least doubled or even tripled in these days as you approached your own island! I'm certain that the home folks "mentioning" your return to the media has gotten the word out to those who would have been following you all along if they had just known about Florence!
I can feel the sense of melancholy you're both having as this major chapter in you life is ending! Still, the achievements and the adventures you two have had is more than most could achieve in 12 lifetimes! There will be an adjustment once you're home but then you'll be on your way to the next chapters and adventures! Take it all in and take some time to relax with family and friends! I know as I watch this that you have already reached England and are, I'm sure planing and working toward the next stage. Thanks again for allowing all of us to come along in a small way! Cheers!
I bet you completed the circumnavigation that was so emotional. But returning where it started. Have so much bragging rights we did it face to face. See what’s changed since you left. I am sure all your friends and family enjoyed your trip as you shared it. But Big hugs coming
I’ve warched and enjoyed every episode of your superbly photographed and narrated story. I love to sail in fair weather. So, it’s been a great, vicarious thrill to sail around the world with you and your adventures. While I don’t want the story to end, I can’t wait to see your homecoming episode.
"The closer we get to home the more lost we feel..." Having made long trips myself I know what you mean. It's bizarre how the day you've imagined and pictured so many times starts to become intimidating and you feel like avoiding it.
Beautiful. Love how honest you are about how you are feeling. Reintegration will be a new challenge. Continue to be gentle with yourself and each other and enjoy the daily journey.
You two are legends, followed you for years and appreciated your positive attitude to all your experiences with many different cultures and sailing. Well done on your circumnavigation, a well earned rest and I'm looking forward to your next adventures. All the best best!
Loved the drone shot as you were leaving Horta, with Pico in the background - just perfect. And know that butterfly feeling so well - we get it at the bgeginning of most long passages, and all the more so when it's such a poignant one like this was. Great job with the spinnaker douse/gybe/poled out genny footage too - you should seriously consider doing an online sailing school series - no-one does it better.
Understand the vacuum returning creates in your life, but I would think the sense of accomplishment would somewhat fill that void. I'm sure once you settle in and start preparations for your next adventure, the sense of purpose will return. Congratulations on pulling off what many dream of and only a few complete. Thanks for taking us along, and I look forward to the second chapter.
"So beautiful.."..yes that my feelings watching this vlog episode...I enjoyed it so much..thank you. Curious to your arrival (in the vlogs..know you already did)..❤
To save fuses you can trouble shoot circuits by using a 110 volt incandescent bulb. Attach two leads to it with clips and put it in place of your fuse. The 110 volt bulb will burn dimly if there is no short and brighter if there is. It's how we troubleshoot TVs back in the day. Higher current flow brighter bulb, lower current dim bulb.
I hope you take time off during your winter refit to fly to Los Gatos and convince the Netflix people to commission a series .. your skills are more than capable of producing some epic sailing travalogues !!! Congrats once again on a stunning episode .. the wildlife shots, dolphins, whale and albatrosses wheeling over the sea set to beautiful music was just superb ..
Great episode illustrating real life sailing ups and downs. Your storm reminded me of my worst nights in 25yrs and some 10,000 miles. Glad to have generally been more sheltered than you :-)
Watched your adventure from episode one, feeling sad that your journey is nearly over, but I've loved every minute of being part of it. Can't wait for any refit vlogs and looking forward to next years adventure. Keep it dry side up and wet side down.
This is the first time that I have commented on the thousands of videos I have watched. We have a yacht which will be delivered into the med in 2025 and the we will (hopefully) start our circumnavigation. What has inspired me is the quality of your videography and how it has improved (especially since SA ) . I loved the story before and it is your storytelling which has engaged me.. Not sure whether I want the rest of the work in my story but thank you for taking us along with you
Great video. I'm ex Australian navy . I was never away from family and Australia as long as you guys have been but I can relate to your feelings of sadness about leaving a port and also the excitement of approaching home port and seeing family. It's always a bit of a head spin when you get home the transition from life at sea to being home. I always felt a bit like a computer going through a software update and reboot.😂
You have of course been home a month now, although sadly I couldn’t make it to Pompey to see you arrive. But I have long wondered about the emotional impact of returning. You have become adapted to a life on Florence over the past 7 years and of constant adventure and new places. Consequently returning home must be an odd mix of relief, jubilation, achievement, sadness and uncertainty on how you will adapt to what comes next. After all, it’s hard to think what can top-off a life-defining experience like ‘doing the world’ and having seen (and endured during Covid) so much? Your piece to camera Matt as you left the Azores on the jumble of feelings you were experiencing was telling. Yes you were smiling as always, but it was a different smile. Maybe it was your voice, but the enormity of the coming conclusion was very evident. I hope you are both well and adapting to life on terra firma and not being about to move on again. A big adjustment I suspect.
I've loved your videos over the last 2-3 years and feel like I know you (though I don't, of course!). Matt, Amy is amazing. She's put her life in your hands and given you her best years as a woman. I hope among your plans over winter you'll return her trust and give her certainty for the future. That will be her greatest joy.
Amy and Matt, you have been in the UK for 2-3 months. So, when is the arrival video to be posted, or are you retiring your site. In 1986 my 85 year old father I cruised up the Solent into Southampton on the QE2, enroute to his birth place Dublin, Ireland. He last departed Ireland at age 14 for Canada, and had never been back. We enjoyed our Guiness.
As always, you captured on film unprecedented ocean and sealife footage. Are you attached to your lifeline when your on the foredeck?🤞 I couldn't tell. Thanks for sharing.
For calm seas like that we were wearing our lifejackets with harnesses and tracking beacons in, but it was not bad enough for us to decide to actually clip on as being clipped on really limits your maneuverability on deck. There will be many opinions on when to clip on but ultimately it is a personal decision which is different for every sailor.
After watching your travels for years now, I just noticed you don’t fly an ensign, or at least no longer fly an ensign. Is there a particular reason. I thought it was a marine requirement to always fly the colours of your registration. Love your editing and narration style. Welcome home!!!
Well so far it hasn't been that bad, although I noticed the winds were unusually all over the place even before you arrived at the Azores. In summer, we do of-course get Easterly wind (hot spells) in Britain - I dont know how far they then drift out into the Atlantic. I've been on every single Scilly island, so I'm looking forward to your next edition.
Congratualtion on getting Home saw a video of you arriving back in the UK Well done Amy & Matt wwhooo As i always say your Vidoes are amazing and why why why dont you have a bigger following is beyond me Mal
Hi Matt and Amy! I can’t imagine all the feels you’re going through going back home. Congratulations on your circumnavigation. Look forward to the last leg. Fairwinds at your back safe sailing in the front. Sending love from LIZ and California.🤟🏻💜🐬😎 ⛵️🇺🇸
seven years is a long time...... do not know how you did it ! good you have fuses in your circuits, just that you need yo know their location.... love all your videos, cheers.....
I’ve often noticed you using a mid-boom preventer but never asked why. The conventional wisdom seems to favour end-boom preventers to the bow to guard against breaking the boom. In fact I leave lines permanently rigged from the cockpit to a block on the how either side for this purpose, which doubles on the weather side as a foreguy on the pole. Grateful your thoughts on this.
I've seen your arrival to UK 6 weeks or 2months ago on another UA-cam channel who came there specially to be part of the welcoming committee😅 but ye lot still way behind 😉. I find it difficult to watch a something when i already know the stry and the ending 😉. Pointless in wishing you the following winds and all that when i know you're already home for weeks if not months.
It is taking us a while to catch up with the editing, once we catch up to the arrival the videos will rapidly move closer to real time as we haven't had much time for filming recently (too busy editing the sailing footage).
I’m an old retired U.S. Army veteran. I have watched and watched again your circumnavigation because I fantasized doing such a thing. During active duty, the time of moving my family more than 30 times (my oldest went to six high schools), my children would sometimes ask, “Where is our home, Daddy?” When we were out of country it was easy, our home was two places, first, wherever we gathered to live together, second, our blessed country, the US, and state, Tennessee.” I wonder, has this question ever come up with you?
We're off to the Arctic next to test ourselves in a different environment with Florence, after that who knows, another circumnavigation could be on the cards but via a totally different route...
I started following you when you left Panama. How many years ago was that now?! What a trip it has been. The best part for me was the many months you spent off western Sumatra. It will be great to see your families again. Thanks for sharing this incredible around the world trip!
Captain Cook 80 Durban S.A., very nice, i dream of sailing to Scotland in my 26 ft sloop, single handed of course, i wonder what you paid for anchoring in Horta . our Rands don't go far. sorry i missed you in Richards Bay.
You need a VOM (volt/Ohm/meter) that will show you where your problem is. When you get back to Britain, take a course in electronics and they will teach you to use a VOM to trouble shoot your equipment.
Where would you take a course that teaches the simple practical stuff? It is just what I have been looking for. Plenty of degree or 2-3 year vocational courses I don’t have time for - and don’t need all the commercial/certification stuff.
It must have been hard for both you and your parents but I really admire you all for not taking long haul flights all over the world ( kind of negates the whole greenness of wind driven travel). Well done and congratulations - sure a well deserved reunion celebration was had by all!
The adventure continues to more challenging areas. A short winter refit and then north to the Arctic onboard Florence to see if we can cope with the challenges of sailing in the higher latitudes. Can we cope in with the Ice in a 35 year old fibreglass boat?
The wind patterns in the Biscay and the approaches to the English channel make it easier to sail direct from the Azores than up the coast of Spain/Portugal which why we chose this route.
Do you have spare winch handles? I'd be worried I'd lose them overboard! I noticed that on "Sailing Uma" the winch handles fold and are attached to the winches.
They have been at seas for a week, she is on watch alone in the middle of the night, it is blowing a near gale and not only does she make time to do a video, she has brushed her hair!
While the "big" sailing channels battle with their production vessels, endless dramas and clickbait nonsense. But if you tell us you have an issue with a system, we know it's real, and can be fixed, like..keep calm and sail on😅
@@artsmith103 I don't disagree with any of that nor was I trying to knock what they are doing, it was just the use of "unprecedented" unless of course they were just referring to their own experience, it just sounds very msm climate emergency speak 😁 a word often used by msm to describe ordinary weather. They are certainly braver than me for crossing the atlantic in a 37 footer, I've never crossed it in anything less that 45,000 tons
@@ceismulcastle My point was you could both be right. More 20-40 knot squalls, while less 50-100 knot storms. Edit: And I see I left out a NOT in my 1st post that could have confused things.
@@ceismulcastle I have a lot of confidence in Mat. He gets his weather info differently than we do. Those sources, tabulating what concerns Matt, are listing more events than usual in that area. Has nothing to do with manmade global warming nonsense.
You must be English. Us Scotish would always welcome immigrants give them a job to help out, and marry them to make more babies to look after us in our old age. Not flaffen about on a boat at every ones expence. and no working for the country @@bertplank8011

Continuerete a viaggiare in barca?spero di sì il vostro è il mio canale UA-cam preferito 👍🏻
They mentioned that they will sail north to the Arctic twice in this video.
@@earthangel8730 guardo i video senza traduzione e mi è sfuggito...grazie cmq di avermelo fatto notare
I’m in the military. Going home will either remind you why you returned or remind you why you left. I would think sailing is the same.
Please tell me you're European :-(
@@artsmith103what are you actually saying? Too nuanced for me
we'd love to have an update on how it's going now you're back home on terra firma. ?
Love the channel. What do you think about in-mast mainsails?
So 'What now?'
How are you going to continue your lives? At sea on a new adventure, or on land ( in a new adventure)?
The adventure continues to more challenging areas. A short winter refit and then north to the Arctic onboard Florence to see if we can cope with the challenges of sailing in the higher latitudes. Can we cope in with the Ice in a 35 year old fibreglass boat?
Just curious, did you consider a stop in Spain and France as welll?
The wind patterns in the Biscay and the approaches to the English channel make it easier to sail direct from the Azores than up the coast of Spain/Portugal which why we chose this route.
Do you have spare winch handles? I'd be worried I'd lose them overboard! I noticed that on "Sailing Uma" the winch handles fold and are attached to the winches.
We do have spares onboard thanks, so far we have only lost 1 overboard in 7 years!
8:15 that's what makes all the trials and tribulations of sailing worth while. 19:09 Matt your parents must be soo proud of you.
worthwhile

They have been at seas for a week, she is on watch alone in the middle of the night, it is blowing a near gale and not only does she make time to do a video, she has brushed her hair!
Minky or Pilot Whale maybe ?
Do you use the spinnaker pole for the Genoa on a goose-wing or have a whisker pole too? Didn't catch if it was mentioned.
We just have the one spinnaker pole which we also use to pole out the Genoa.
Might be silly question.. but are there any USB plug in autopilots that can be used?
Autopilot mostly refers to the electric drive unit. Mine on half their size boat draws 3 amps @ 12V. So USB is not applicable.
While the "big" sailing channels battle with their production vessels, endless dramas and clickbait nonsense. But if you tell us you have an issue with a system, we know it's real, and can be fixed, like..keep calm and sail on😅
♥️♥️🥰🥰
❤⛵ 👏 👏 👏
Your camera focus was off this episode making picture very blurry.
😎👍👍👍❤
You've been home 2 months nearly?

unprecedented for summer storms since when? last year? historical data shows no trends in adverse weather
What they call a storm probably does not tabulate on your data. The conditions they showed are quite intimidating but not threatening.
@@artsmith103 i realised about the not, but if the events are not in the data then one can not call them unprecedented anyway
@@ceismulcastle I have a lot of confidence in Mat. He gets his weather info differently than we do. Those sources, tabulating what concerns Matt, are listing more events than usual in that area. Has nothing to do with manmade global warming nonsense.
Sounds like you should deploy your emergency you tube video uploader
Time to buy a house and have Babies, get a real job, and pay some tax to help out the economy. and stop flaffen about.👍
Yeah Right.....pay taxes to pay for illegal immigrants to be housed in 4 star hotels +all expenses......most rational people in Britain would object.
You win the award for the most depressing comment posted on youtube today!
Thanks 🤣😂@@paullascelles8362
You must be English. Us Scotish would always welcome immigrants give them a job to help out, and marry them to make more babies to look after us in our old age. Not flaffen about on a boat at every ones expence. and no working for the country @@bertplank8011
At least there are no upvotes for this nonsense.
