I realize that it is impossible to put out these great videos everyday, but this type of video brings me back to the Linus two years ago. I’m lovin it.
We have LOTS coming. An entire season of Scrapyard Wars, an entire season of Tech Showdown (modding competition), and another build guide are ALL in editing right now :D

Linus Tech Tips love me!
With ThreadRipper out don't you think it is time for another "X Gamers 1 CPU" build?

Credit card ripper
Naw. Not really. Just save up for the parts. Once you have enough put aside (which will either be incredibly quickly, or a moderately long amount of time), you can THEN go purchase what you need for building the pc. You can easily pay off the credit card after each purchase, since you've saved up the money. Not a ripper at all.
One must never think of their credit card as an 'early purchase device'. If you do so, without having the $ to pay it off rapidly, you end up fucking over your future self by making THEM pay off your instant gratification. Save up. It's more worthwhile.
But i dont want to save up,i want it now!! :(((
You do realize some Xeons cost up to $10K?

I got Threadripper 1920X installed with 3x 1080Ti, not for gaming but for AI and deep learning research. The best of all, you don't have to worry the PCIe lanes, just plug in all GPUs and NVMes as much as you like, hassle free. But I recommend cooler with full size heat contact like one from Noctua, it makes a lot of difference in cooling performance.

Two years later, I’m finding the threadripper 1920x with 12 cores selling for $200.98 on Amazon. Amazing!
Linus
Ever thought of doing a threadripper build that people can afford, like using the 1920X 12 core, with non flashy case, kinda back to basics that can be upgraded as funds arrive.
I call it the wallet ripper
Douglas Cheung that's what I thought too! Btw how much was the total?!
7000$

That the total for that build. You can build a Threadripper system a lot cheaper.
*bank ripper
I could call that a Wallet Ripper.
Levigitas thats the Core i9 lol
Yes
AMD was never much of a Wallet Ripper. Intel processors with same performance are about twice the cost.
lol
Yeah, cause paying twice the price for a 2% cpu gain and less PCIe lanes is totally a smart investment, and has nothing to do with ego. XD

Building this in a July 2019, only cost $1600.

There is no way they're going to give away a $7,000 PC for free.
They've given away more expensive PCs in the past. Now that Cooler Master has paid for LTT to build that PC, the money's already spent. And, honestly, as far as marketing campaigns are concerned, $7k is pretty cheap.

Finally, a build sheet for a Real Workstation that we can all work towards. I'm in the process of saving for a Threadripper Workstation that'll actually do what I need. "Don't worry about the fact that the AIO cold plate doesn't cover the IHS, the cores are in the middle"?????????????? No they are not!! Full coverage TR4 120mm air cooling beats universal AIOs by 10 to 20 degrees in every test I've seen with even temps across all cores versus the lower coverage with hot spots... Oh it's a Cooler Master sponsored build and they haven't come out with a full coverage TR4 cold plate!!!
omg no one cares
Yeah not like Linus to list a bullshit fact, he had to say something to appease cooler master. Or this was filmed a long time ago and maybe the delids didn't happen yet.
The reason the larger AIO coolers are more efficient is because of the larger surface area, not due to the cores being evenly spread through out the dye. Linus isn't lying, the cores ARE in the middle.
This simple fact made me too wonder where this silly misinformation came from. Gamers Nexus has a few videos showing the actual inside and also has a video covering what kind of actual coverage those AIOs made for standard CPUs get on Threadripper and it ain't good. Pretty amateurishly done by Linus there.
There is no defending this huge mistake, just take a look what there the actual dies are inside the CPU for yourself if you think that silly little AIO plate won't make it run way hotter than any cooler with full coverage.
ua-cam.com/video/QpvGYxaMLc0/v-deo.html. You don't know what your talking about here is some nutrition for your brain.
I love ❤️ this channel it’s so fascinating I now know how to build all the pc’s you’ve shown.

8:44 why do we STILL have these aweful front panel conectors as standard in 2017? Every other plug on motherboards has been upgraded in the last 15 years, except this one.
Felipe Figueroa because they work and there really isn't anything wrong with them
because making a standard connector for 2 buttons and 2 leds is way too hard for manufacturers....
Well, at least ASUS boards come with a little thingy that you can connect all the front panel thingies to and then put onto the board in one go, rather than plugging them all in individually. Also, these simple pins afford a great deal of compatibility, going so far as to allow a screwdriver to be used as a makeshift on/off switch. I like the flexibility that this gives case manufacturers and especially modders. And on a final note, my case comes with not only one, but two network activity LEDs, this means that if there were a standard front panel connector, it would have to come with not only switches for power and reset, a power and hard drive LED, but also two network LEDs and a chassis intrusion switch. I imagine that space is at a premium especially on ITX boards so a new connector would not only necessitate a good ten years of a transitional period where every case and/or motherboard comes with adaptors, but also waste space for no good reason other than saving a few seconds to assemble the system.
you are right, we should be using all standard magnetic auto secured conectors by this time
except for when you jostle your case a tiny bit and they all fall out and disconnect.
Sometimes when watching your videos it reminds of the days when I had a baller pc that I would take apart every few months and clean each and every part all shinny every nook and cranny every wire every contact just like new, then put it all back together just like a new build, sometimes even throwing in an upgrade :P
It's 2019, and this looks so quaint.

I believe that when LTT want to make a build log the planning is as simple as going to pc part picker and choosing the most expensive component in every category. LUL
definetlynotanoob if that were true they would have put a nvidia Tesla in there
Its like you quoted exactly what he said for their last video...
That's exactly what I did
crazymonkeyboom check your math a couple $1000 cards vs one $5000 card
I mean, I know you're half joking, but If that were the case, he sure as hell wouldn't have used a Cooler Master CLC, or a Zotac GPU.
No custom watercooling? A Zotac 1080 Ti Amp and not an Asus Poseidon? No custom hardline watercooling? *No 4-way SLI!?*
What is this, a budget build!?
/s
Bate this is supposed to be a "ultimate mega" build not a "this is still kinda sorta justifiable build"
No, it's a sponsored build, which means they use whatever Cooler Master tells them to use. Like seriously, when have you EVER known Linus to pick a Cooler Master all-in-one water cooler over Corsair?
4 and 3-way sli died with pascal. And 2-way it's not great, most of the games out there don't support it; so you get a expensive block of metal attached to your motherboard.
James Cruz that '/s' xD
Revan a workstation is not for gaming. You can easily use 4x 1080Ti in this for productivity purposes.
The system should have 4x 1080tI or even better 4x Nvidia Tesla P40’s
I'd love to see this updated.
It just a dream for many, like me 😍😍😍😍😍 thank you for making this video ,an awesome build for gaming freak
Finally, a fantastic video that I am sure most of the audience actually wants to see.
Only one GPU? I'm fairly disappointed.
Sli is dead even nvidia know that
Aren't they still supporting two-way SLI?
Multiple GPU's are far from dead for prosumer workstation builds, like this. It's not a gaming rig.
I use two GPUs, but only because I don't want to spend the extra bucks to get a quad-output card (though they have come down in price a fair bit). I run 4 monitors.
If you can afford a 1080 TI - you're good. SLI is not worth it. Never was, never will be.
"Have my dinner sent to my trailer." LMAO, I knew there was a tradeoff for all the expensive crap Linus buys.
I think he's talking about a different kind of trailer here, not the one people have to live in, but the kind top actors have on sets...

Fuck SLI

Linus, I was watching a video where Noctua`s new AIR coolers for TR4 completely obliterated the NZXT Kraken coolers by like 10 degrees Celsius. So I would rather have the whole die covered rather than making excuses for the AIO coolers.
The only reason is that Coolermaster does not have a cooler that could beat the Noctua that are made for the TR4.
HardwareCanucks?
Even LTT has made a video on that recently, kinda. They compared some of Noctua's air coolers with some AIOs and the air coolers turned out to be more effective. The problem however is that the air coolers are pretty big compared to the AIOs and if you don't like the look of a huge chunk of metal on your CPU and have the money for it, an AIO or a custom loop might be the way to go.
That's true, and a valid point. Air vs AIO/water has been an old of a discussion with compelling arguments on both sides of the fence, but in this particular case I would say that with the added effectives, the Air coolers make more sense for the TR4.
"We need a small cooler in this 50lb monster of a case."

I'm building my own 1950x system. Since gen2 and gen3 threadripper is in the wild, the price of the 1950x as come down to damn near give away prices.
