  • Getting into CRNA school is a difficult process, especially if you are a less than ideal candidate with a low GPA.
    However, there are ways you can improve your overall resume and application. With a plan and some hard work you can get that valuable interview and acceptance letter into CRNA school.
    In this video, I will share with you exactly what I did to get into CRNA school.

    Damn you kicked ass, congrats man. I think the admission committees are impressed with a 4.0 in hard science and graduate level classes and can forgive a lower overall GPA if you bring that to the table. You also kicked ass on the GRE.

    I might have to take advanced pathology, I have the same gpa as you. Nervous about gre’s, don’t do well with standardized exams. You gave me more hope, but also understand more work is going be required from us because of our gpa. I didn’t know about the other certifications outside CCRN. Man, pray I can get in. You really open belief for me!

      You can do it! You already understand that it's going to take extra work. Just be dedicated. It is a slow process getting thing done one at a time, but when you've finished everything and you're ready to apply, just have faith and trust the process. Everything that you have done to make yourself more competitive will have been worth it.

    First I want to congratulate you on your success. I also have 3 years of experience in MICU, low gpa 3.09 like you and I took organic chem got B and also retook my science A and P and general chem which I got A on both. I have CCRN now I am planing to take my GRE next month. I have a question three questions, I have a CCRN, would it be smart to take the CMC certificate? The second question I have for you is can you pls share how you constructed your personal statement? I would love to send you mine and maybe you can help me to present my nursing education, certificates and experience to be a better applicant. And lastly, which schools did you apply?
    Thank you so much for posting this video

    Great video, I found it really informative. My question for you is how do programs view poor grades in prior programs? I dropped probably close to 8 mechanical engineering classes with a 2.7 GPA prior to bringing myself back to a 3.2 in nursing. Will this show determination, or more likelihood of failure?

    • @NurseAnesthesia1
      @NurseAnesthesia1  4 роки тому

      Most programs that I am aware of look at your overall GPA and it typically needs to be above 3.0. Your grades should also trend upwards in your latter classes. This shows that you matured throughout your college years and took education more seriously. I think your 3.2 nursing GPA will be fine as long as your overall GPA is also above 3.0.

    Did you retake both a year of general physics (with or without calculus?) and ochem or do you mean that you took a graduate-level class in each? If so, what sort or physics class did you take?
    I'm just about to get my BS in chemistry (but am thinking about becoming a nurse now) and received a B average in Ochem, a C average in calculus-based physics, and will likely end up with a C+ average in physical chemistry. I'm not sure how many of these classes I'll need to retake to be competitive.

    • @NurseAnesthesia1
      @NurseAnesthesia1  4 роки тому +3

      Ochem and physics were undergrad level. I believe my physics class was a general one without any calculus involved. Just my opinion, but I don't think you should even be worrying about physics classes right now if you haven't even gotten into nursing school. The road to becoming a CRNA is a one step process. You can't get to CRNA without being an ICU nurse, and you can't become an ICU nurse without going to nursing school. You can't get to nursing school without having taken nursing school prereqs and the TEAS and/or the HESI. Sorry, not trying to discourage you but it's a long long process to CRNA that should be looked at like a marathon rather than a sprint.

    Defining a GPA as low depends on various things like the collage program , the educational system in your country .. etc
    Here in Egypt a 3.0 GPA score is considered " very good "
    So you see what I'm talking about..
    CRNA programs need to find other fair ways to evaluate the applicants .

    How hard was it to get A’s in organic chem, and physics? Did you study your ass off? And did you take both of these classes at once while working full time?

    • @NurseAnesthesia1
      @NurseAnesthesia1  4 роки тому +5

      I would say those classes were challenging, but definitely not impossible. It just take a little hard work and dedication on your part. I took each close 1 semester at a time while working full time. I stayed constantly busy for about 2 years working on all this stuff.

    • @NurseAnesthesia1
      @NurseAnesthesia1  4 роки тому

      I can't tell you off the top of my head but I don't think it went up a whole lot just because of the fact that I had already taken sooo many college credit hours. I think the point I made to admissions committees by taking those courses again was that I changed my mentality with school and was serious/focused about studying/school.

    Hi,
    I hope that you're doing well. My science's GPA is 4.0, nursing accumulative is 3.9. However, when they combined with my BSN majored in business from oversea, my accumulative dropped to 3.4. Do you think that I should focus on my GRE or what should I do about my GPA?

    • @NurseAnesthesia1
      @NurseAnesthesia1  4 роки тому +2

      3.4 is a good enough gpa to get an interview. Just do your best on the GRE, you don't need a super stellar score or anything because your GPA is decent. You will need to ace your interview though. So when you apply and get interviews that's what you need to mainly focus on.
