Harri, now you understand why she is known to be the vocal equivalent of the 90´s vocal trinity in so many countries. And many consider even better performing-wise and emotionally speaking.
David Foster, another famous canadian, said "when we first met her, we couldn’t believe what we were hearing. It was a voice from another planet or something. (…) She is top of the heap of the world great voices".
Igor Krutoy, another of her friend and the greatests russian producer/composer (also mentor of Dimash or Diana Ankudinova) said : "Lara is both the best singer and best songwriter I have ever collaborated with".
You were on point about her and opera:
She has been classically trained during 10 years and would have pursued an opera soprano career, if she wasn’t first and foremost a songwriter. She wrote 200+ songs in 4 languages, sometimes for others (eg Your Love for Dimash or Imaginer for Jackie Evancho)
That’s the main reason that led her to go for the pop parh and not opera.
She will have a tour in eastern europe in 2024. And she will have another tour in France and in countries around in 2025. I would be surprised if UK is on the list though.
She did perform in 2011 in the Royal Albert Hall for a mesmerizing performance (while being highly medicated and having 2 vertebrae broken)
She is supposed to release a new album in 2024 and in France we will be lucky to see her acting as a vocal coach in several shows (The Dream Team, Star Academy, The Voice Kids).
I will post additional info in separate comments.

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonata, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and gave his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music compositions, mostly operatic, and different lyrics (the band Renaissance, Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance).
But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in italian then co-wrote the english lyrics for it and is the original performer of these 2 versions.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Julie Anne San Jose, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, Evgenia Fanfara, , …
They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love.
    ua-cam.com/video/bqoS-KOLV_4/v-deo.html
Her italian version is also amazing. A famous italian version:

Or you can check her recent excellent rendition in Paris early october 2022

    More information on Lara Fabian:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for 200+ songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both italian and french as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She had been living for years in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship. She just moved
back to Italy a few months ago (temporarily?).
She became very famous in Quebec and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary, packed with masterpieces (covered by many great vocalists later on).
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban (they are friends and he told she is a role model for him), Linda Eder, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
    She is Dimash's idol:
I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by by Lara.
Out of my mind I can list:
    ○ Adagio (She wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Mademoiselle Hyde (she wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Love of Tired Swans (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version)
    ○ Ascolta La Voce / Vocalize (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know")
She also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love".
And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).
Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy: Igor and Dimash connected after his Adagio cover, also endorsed by Lara.
Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him after it.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs, some have Lara as a role model and big inspiration:
    ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio),
    ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),
    ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie),
    ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),
    ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),
    ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),
    ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),
    ○ Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Adagio),
    ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),
    ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade),
    ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gigi de Lana (Broken Vow)
    ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know),
    ○ Il Divo (Adagio)
    ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),
    ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow)
    ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),
    ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie),
    ○ Amir (Je t’aime),
    ○ Vitas (Adagio),
    ○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio),
    ○ Jeck (Je T’Aime),
    ○ Evgenia Fanfara (Adagio),
    ○ Anna Eriksson (Je suis malade),
    ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),
    ○ Soprano Turetsky band (Adagio)
    ○ Majda Roumi (Adagio),
    ○ Harrison Craig (Broken Vow),
    ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you)
    ○ Sevara Nazarkhan (Je t’aime)
    ○ ....
NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version.
Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.
In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. She completed the europe part in September/October and I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was again spectacular.
On April and May 2023 she had again a wonderful concerts in Tbilissi, Georgia, and in Ouzbekhistan and Kazakhstan.
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

Lara Fabian is A Canadian singer from a Belgium father and Sicilian mother. she sings as effortlessly in English, French and Italian. If you watch her interviews in either of these language you'll find she has no accent in any of there. as far as a comparison with Celine Dion, they are of very different styles, Celine being a more north American song book where as Lara is more European like performer. Both are sensational talents.

Lara Fabian and Céline Dion are very great singers, but the difference is in the emotions that Lara Fabian makes us feel, in her presence on stage and her bodily expressions. Something in her voice that may remind you of one or the other artist out there but there is truly none who can stand up to her. I noted the names coming up of many really great and incredible female artists, and I too have a few to add, all with really astonishing vocals. Some I like very much and some I love very much. However, Lara has made and left her such an indelible mark in my heart. It all boils down to the overall interpretation, execution, performance, engagement with fellow musicians involved at any occasion, the engagement and handling of the audience and a few more absolutely important and key things. Remember it's not about who but what. When one hands in resume or CV, it's never about who but what it contains - what it represents. In the same vain when asked to listen to an artist, we should do so with a clear, pure, non-polluted mind. It's also best to first listen to the song in it's entirety and then break down the different aspects ot the song, like most vocal coaches would do. Your mindset clearly changed, I noted, after you finished listening to the song.
I like your reaction very much, which was done very respectfully.
I will appreciate you picking up on any other Lara recommendations from people on your channel. 🙏

Lara and Celine competed against each other in the 1988 Eurovision talent contest. Celine won, Lara finished fourth. (Kinda makes me wonder about second and third). Because of their similar styles, the word is that CD's management team limited Lara's exposure in North America, which is why she is the most spectacular artist we have never heard of. She has ALL the tools, and uses them all to advance the story she is desperately trying to convey. She currently has European and Canadian dates scheduled this spring.

Phenomenal singer singing her own song. She's two years younger than Celine Dion (which, with way music industry works, is probably why you've not heard of her before now). Apparently industry believes America (possibly the world too) is too small for such similar exceptional talents. Idiot dinosaurs. Reading their Wikipedia bios side by side is interesting. Wish we could have had DECADES of the two of them doing DUETS!! Can you even imagine?!

Why does having a favorite singer mean you hate any others? People are that troubled???? Comments that reference some kind of hate for a singer just because you prefer someone else? Why would that even cross your mind? Just because a person loves Lara doesn't mean they hate anybody else. If truth be told there is only animosity towards Celine because it was her people who blocked Lara's career in America. Perhaps they saw a threat. The music business can be extremely corrupt and petty, and I don't mean Tom. I was in that business for over fifty years and I saw a lot of messed up stuff.

Lara herself called it « it’s the name of the game » . Saying that this is common practice in the industry.

The comparison to Celine is just a fleeting accent that she has. the differences are astounding though. Lara tends to be way more natural in the way she sings and tells a story, she draws you in like no other. Every intention is clear and precise plus her tone is something else!!!!!! This lady is on a platform by herself! No shade to Celine, she's a fantastic singer as well, but nothing in comparison. Try "You Are Not From Here" next and "Broken Vow" and if you want to see/hear her in another language, "Caruso" that was always previously sung by an operatic tenor, sung in the original Italian by her.

Hi Harri, great performance! I had never heard of Lara Fabian until I watched a video from this 15 year old Dutch singer, Emma Kok, who sang a stunning performance of the Barbara Pravi song 'Voilà' which she did with the Andre Rieu Orchestra, last summer. This video is going viral with 31M+ views so far, and comparisons with Lara Fabian have been made by some reactors (calling her 'the next Lara Fabian'). Noteworthy is the fact that Emma is suffering from Gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach), which means she cannot eat the normal way (orally), but is depending on being fed through tubes directly to her stomach. Here is the link with the introduction by director Andre Rieu explaining her condition. I promise you will be blown away! ua-cam.com/video/KdIhq1tb8Co/v-deo.htmlsi=JUVWd1NwEoC5XP3E

It's hard not to compare her with Celine, they started their career around the same time, they both even participated in the same eurovision song contest in 1988 that Celine won which catapulted her career ahead of Lara's that Lara had to to play catch up by sort of imitating Celine's style in the early 90s.
But I think the turning point was when Celine had the massive hit with Titanic soundtrack that Lara decided to be herself and it really paid off. We got to see what a fantastic singer she really is, which in my opinion is even better than Celine. Her self titled album Lara Fabian is still one of my favourites since 1999 until today.

Re: If you are intent upon 'seeing her live'' i.e., in her present-day form, one must bear in mind that what you are watching and listening to herein captures Lara functioning amidst a bygone era. In other words, in her prime; at the near peak of her powers a time-frame, generally speaking, that encompassed the years 1996 to 2003. Understandably, she no longer is able to pull off performances of this caliber at least not on a consistent basis if at all. Illness, normal wear and tear, along with the typical age-related decline that is to be expected as we get older has taken its toll not only on the vocal cords but lung capacity and stamina as well. She still ''has her moments'', no doubt but anyone who suggests or insists that the 2023/contemporary Lara Fabian Model or even an earlier version that could be seen on tour as recently as 10 years ago - compares with what audiences encountered during her heyday is either delusional, mired in a state of deep denial or being less than honest.
