As someone who is in the #1 guild in my server, this game is MOST certainly p2w if you want to be the top guild, alongside having the Eclipse skill and Rain skill. Firstly, we paid and geared up before anyone else helping us reach the #1 guild rank since day 1. We've been #1 uncontested and 200k+ guild points ahead of every top guild in our server. With this lead we gain access to easily recruiting the top activity/pvp players which gives us the Eclipse/Rain skill helping us monopolize certain peace bosses and excluding everyone else from attending. Since we're #1, we just recruited skilled players that are also conveniently rich upper class whales and had them fully geared before anyone else in our server. With the strongest guild in the server before anyone else, we've got to farm kills in every dungeon every night, every event, feeding our top pvp players with kills which means that absolutely no one can pass them. Our top 12 of our PVP leaderboard has our guild members, top 40-11 pvp'ers are in our alliances. Secondly, the top activity player in my server will buy the entire battlepass level immediately and begin collecting the Star crystals to spend on the extra count passes, extra dimensional tokens and abyssal contracts before anyone else. Since we're the strongest players on the server, we also get to collect EVERY SINGLE sauradoma chest at night, uncontested because why even bother with our fully geared zerg. We feed those chests to our top activity player which solidifies his rank as the #1 activity player in a giant margin. We've absolutely monopolized the Kill/Activity/Guild leaderboards. All this because we paid and geared before anyone else. And now, we get to defend Stonegard during siege and claim 3,000,000 lucent in taxes for us to keep. Why? Because we paid, we have FU money. The rich get richer. We lock others out of content, and we're in it to kill the game and show the devs everything wrong with the system they've implemented.
This! and as someone who gave up on pvp and trying to look into PVE. Nope, there's no pve content. The only pve content here is for you to grind gears and use it on PVP.
They will eventually merge servers so its only a matter of time, for now you are #1 on your current server, but once the server merge happens, that will all change as you will now have to compete with the other #1 guild from the other server that merges with yours. Same with the high tier gears, eventually the world bosses items will be available in T2 dungeon chests. Then those hard earned (paid) gears you got now will be replaced by T2 gears. At the end of the day, the devs are the real winners here, they took your money and time. But hey... as long as you're happy being at the top... that what's matter.
Only people making any significant amounts lucent are people in guilds like yourself that acquire the best items to sell to other whales. The rest are left trying to sell scraps farmed from trash tier content along with the other 2000+ people trying to sell items for 10-30 lucent. People ask well what are you winning? You explained exactly what you win by whaling and P2W. I get why content creators push the "Its P2W but its not really P2W cause you can earn it in game" narrative. Its literally their job to push a false narrative with the hopes that maybe they make it to the partner program and maybe get a few years out of making content before moving on to another game. The white knighting by content creators towards this game is laughable though. You can spin P2W any way you want, but the bottom line is T&L rewards whales significantly by introducing content that is geared towards winning the best loot and lucent through power. Fastest way to get this power is by whaling and doing exactly what you describe. F2P players are literally content for whales at this stage in T&L.
This is what people don't understand. Having droppable items doesn't means it is not pay to win. Getting significant advantage through paying is the definition of real P2W. You get a significant head start through paying and after that snowball until the game dies is P2W. The first time I saw lucent in the shop and can be used in AH I definitely know spenders will always be miles away from non-spenders.
ALLLLLLRIGHT lets not be ridiculous, its certainly pay to win, u can buy lucent to buy boss gear and fully trait it out skipping the 100 hours of playtime it would naturallly take to do so from co op dungeons and world bosses. I get what youre saying but its a bit disingenuous to say its just not pay to win, also ur in a guild thats competitive and u come across drops by accident because of it, for the normal player drops are few and far between. A person paying 100 200 bucks is certainly gonna have an advantage over anyone organically leveling, traiting and grinding. You will struggle and constantly be bottlenecked as a free to play player. Dont let this guy sell you a dream for the sake of his content.
Before launch I tended to argue it was not pay 2 win and was more pay 2 progress, but having played a good bit now and seeing how the discrepancy in gear outweighs any and all skill in this game and how unlikely you as a single player are able to obtain the right gear has put me in the firm camp of it being "pay 2 win". There is no compelling argument to say it is not.
Join a good guild that can help you build your gear by doing weekly guild raid bosses, doing abyssal contracts, co-op dungeons, and of course some crazy luck. We have a guild member that got the Band of Universal power and the Belt of Bloodlust from the weekly missions. Both items cost about 20-30k lucent the time he got it. So my point is, you can literally be on top 100 players in your server without swiping your card, just be with a decent guild and some crazy luck.

Of course you will have the anomalies of a few players here and there hitting that 0.5% chance to get an item of value to sell but lets be real 99% of the playerbase might get something like that once every 12 months or never if you have bad RNG.
@@Robot256k you literally can, you can make an ALT (2nd character) and sell all the stuff that your ALT makes. And most of the P2W players now have nothing to do. Because they are now fully geared (which costed them so much lucent). But the T2 gears won't come anytime soon so the F2P players can catch up. And guess what? The items/gears are much cheaper now. One example is the heavy attack chance trait for purple weapons. Back then its around 1000-1200 lucent. now its only 180-200 lucent. More F2P players are getting good gears now. Its only a matter of time. Shadow pants, universal ring, and belt of bloodlust cost about 15k 2-3 weeks ago, now they only cost about 5-6k. give it another 2 weeks then it will be around 2500-3500.

Its 100% pay to win. Sure you can grind and catch up, but its 100% pay to win. The advantage you get from quickly build a strong guild snowballs you into a profitable lockout where no one else can compete against the whales. It happens to all these types of PVP games from Rise of Kingdoms to TandL

I don’t care when no one says there are items in the game that are locked behind world bosses that you would never ever receive if you’re not in a really good guild and also if you don’t put enough damage in, and those items do not have a pity system to receive them
Please remember the pay to win aspect when it comes to mmorpgs is 100% the time it takes to reach a goal. Being able to aquire the same outcome EVENTUALLY as a free to play player makes no difference when that same goal can be achieved in a day with 100 bucks. Anyone can be a millionaire, but it certainly helps when your father has been one since 2005 lol. Time is the difference when it comes to games like this, not access.
Understand he runs a guild and gets to farm all the bosses etc to earn that amount of lucent, if you are not in a good guild and aren't able to do conflict bosses as well as peace and aren't a dps class you aren't making that kind of lucent easily. Also understand that being able to get the items other players can by just putting money into the game does not remove the p2w aspect it just means that if you put in the time and have luck you can have what players who pay have eventually.
I'm in just a moderate guild, only had time to run one night of guild bosses and my sells as F2P are 6k this month. Not far off the top guilds. You just have to play, and for me, focus your time on what makes you the most

i play in a trash casual guild and still got almost all epic items, fully traited and i made ingame currency.. and i started playing 2 weeks ago so not even from the release, i got 4 epic items this week alone
What percentage of f2p players do you think have been lucky enough to get these epic drops and have been able to gear themself sufficiently to be able to engage in the pvp aspect without feeling like a pinata, I can assure you it is a small percentage that being the minority of f2p players and stating anecdotal evidence doesn't remove the fact that the game is p2w. Example a fresh p2w player can come into the game get their character to 50 in less than a day and gear themself to compete in pvp - that alone means the game is p2w the skill or luck of individual players does not influence what is used to determine a p2w game.
Good to know you sold out although i have to admit it is a shame because i really enjoyed your content. TnL IS p2w. When the second week people where at 3.5k gear score while the average f2p hardcore population reaches that stage 2-3 weeks later the game IS p2w. During that time the p2w players keep making huge profit gains which will be used to further the gap once t2 comes out, being in top guilds with no danger of getting kicked and finishing their builds with BiS items that drop only from conflict bosses. I'd argue the vast majority of characters are well short of 3.5k at this point. Most players I know are sub 3k and most have hit a wall because none are willing to spend money to get Lucent. The only time they advance gear is on the off chance of a lucky drop (either getting what they need or getting a high value extract/litho/sellable item).

I kinda find it a bit disingenuous when cc show their lucent earning from the auction house cause they leave out the fact that they have a very big advantage for being a cc. Personally, I made about 3.5 lucent on my main after a month of playing and about 1.5k on my alt for about 3 weeks of playing. Never had a world boss drop on either account and I’ve only just started doin guild raids after finally joining a stable guild. Not sure if my earning is the avg and don’t get me wrong it’s still a good amount of lucent, but I think it’s a more realistic showing and I doubt the avg player will be earning 10k+ lucent in a month unless they luck is godly
In his previous video or 2nd to last he actually showed where a huge bulk of that lucent came from, a world boss drop so he got extremely lucky and trying act like everyone is going to get a 7k item drop.
Sorry for your low earnings, but 2-3k lucent weekly is easily manageable by playing couple hours a day and maybe a little bit longer on the weekends. As far as it goes I did over 100 bosses since EA launch and never had a lucky drop or a big hit on weekly loot. But I’m selling everything I can on the AH and got about 16-20k in total.
thats just bad luck, me and my borther joind a very casual guild both of us got 16k lucent in drops, guild policie is you drop you keep it . but without does drops I can make around 2/3k lucent a weak

It isnt just world bosses either, its also loot distribution in open world dungeons. That especially sucks for tanks, because in a group, you get very little loot So if you're a tank you're just screwed
Love your videos, man! I've been playing since launch, and honestly, this game is driving me insane but I’m kind of okay with it. It’s a real grind, and yeah, it leans into the pay-to-win territory. I haven't even had time to upload any UA-cam videos because it just keeps pulling me back in! Honestly, your videos have helped me a ton with my progress in the game. I'm a 9 to 5 gamer. I play a lot during the weekend, and i might play an hour or two a couple of evening during the week. I've been level 50 for one week. During that week, i made 3k lucent and completed my mid game gear. End game gear is a lot more expensive, but the grind is fun. Yes it's pay to progress, f2p players like myself will have to grind a lot more, but thats the fun of the game anyways imo. With a bit of RNG and good choices, I found that you can make a llot of lucent quite easily. The p2w part of the game for me isnt a game breaker at all, for now at least.
This game is pay to not Grind…. Or pay to win if you are a complete WHALE! Like thousands per month u can basically be geared to shit. The game is designed to make you grind and swipe to not wait to trait out the gear. Its good marketing. This game is broken tho. The cc stun locking of classes is busted and then the guild “pvp” is just zerging. I mean its ridiculius. There is no skill in being 100 guildies storming into a contested boss and wiping out smaller groups
an aspect not considered is how readily accessible those gears are for solo f2p players who joins the game alone. A solo p2w player can easily get into the top guilds by quite literally messaging any top guild leaders u can find, while a solo f2p player is gonna struggle to find trustworthy guildies that can aid him get his gear. There are exceptions of course like a veteran who played in KR who knows what he is doing b4hand or someone who just does a bunch of research b4 the game and snowballed his lucent farming early on when game launched b4 the market crashed. game is definitely pay to win it does have a very low floor to spend and get ahead compared to other more p2w games but it also has a vey high ceiling to spend to get the top of the top gear. Its more of a pay 2 progress type of p2w not the ill pay more money so u can never touch my character while i 1v100 ur entire f2p team type of p2w.
you can't answer yes and no!!! it is p2w yes! however the mechanics of the trading and currency makes it have less of a negative effect for those who doesn't want to pay. If it makes you lvl up faster and gives an advantage(even if it's obtainable for everyone) it is p2w. You can pay to get epic stuff but most importantly, you don't have to, cause you won't have an unfair disadvantage by not paying. It was the same in Escape From Tarkov but they have ruined it, so now i play TL.
Its either you put 10 hours playing the game (playing it like it your daily job) to be on the top players or swipe your card because you have a good paying job and you want to be one of the top players.
Dont expect to ever see gear drop from world bosses for you. The only way you will ever really see that loot is by swiping or playing in a guild (mainly guild bosses weekly)

Pay to win means that u can get op gear that f2p players cant. In this case its more like pay2progressfaster. Becauee even f2p players like me can get lucent, get items they want from farming etc. Its just takes longer time.
i agree with you, most people that complain are having issues with swiping but they would do the same if they could. and the frustration you get from thinking you cant compete. well am f2p player with a decent 3,2k gear score and am smacking 3,6k to the ground, and its fun smacking whales to the ground. just letting them know that money doesnt buy skills. i have a small active guild and we are gearing a bit slower than the wales but we are getting there, its like you said its ur investment that counts and the way you handle ur time ingame.
Cant disagree, as well earned over 10k lucent just by selling stuff, did get some upgrades and still sold cus cus maxing em would cost alot, just did go with more afordable stuff for my build.
The game is absolutely pay to win. People are dropping thousands of dollars for one piece of gear. You also need a guild to get the best gear, and with the guild setup, you can easily get robbed. There are items on the AH that are being bought for 4-6k$ real life money.
But its not P2W bro you can get that item in game so that means its just pay to progress faster and you can earn that $4-6k lucent easily in game by just selling a few items like me. I'm 10000 GS and I've only been playing for a month F2P and got 200k lucent in the bank selling lithographs you can farm easily in the open world (average T&L content these days on UA-cam)

For example WoT, there you can buy premium tanks and those are much better than basic versions in tech tree. Still you need to have some skill. 100% pay2win and the fact that the every lucent in the game has been bought with real money is proof, even the lucent f2p player made via auction house have been bought by someone else with money. If you´d earn lucent via dungeons or bosses or whatever, sure. But every Lucent in the system has once been bought with money, and the taxes take lucent out of the system as well (and distributes some of it back to the top guilds). So constant money flow is guarenteed .. Now is that a bad thing though? Well thats up to you, I don´t mind it, I spent 200€ and I´m all geared up now, given with a bit more budget build but it´s enough to compete in PvP. And a lot of progression can´t even be bought, good luck trying to swipe up your weapon mastery, or leveling your skills .. thats the real grind and can not be payed.
There are plenty f2p that are roughly 3k gearscore. 3,500+ are p2wing, and they stomp the f2players. And then you have world bosses that have a WAY better chance to drop the good stuff to the top dpsers. Leaving healers and tanks behind. Yeah its p2w. Lets not beat around the bush.

I don't get all the hate. As a f2p player, I can see the game is pay to progress faster. Definitely not p2w. Games problem is with the guild system, not with the cash shop. If you're good in the game, you can be very powerful without spending a dime.

It's not pay to win. A player has to farm that item an place it onto the auction house. It's not being directly sold by the company themselves and it's accessible to all players, not just those willing to play money to get ahead a little faster.

Pay to win? I've spent over 500$ and havent won anything other than a fee events. Some people sure are jealous of my gear tho lol. But then i tell them all my skills are also purple and they are like, "what?". This game is easy to gear up in. I was full blue max level full traited in 2 weeks before I spent a dime. Only people making any significant amounts lucent are people in guilds like yourself that acquire the best items to sell to other whales. The rest are left trying to sell scraps farmed from trash tier content along with the other 2000+ people trying to sell items for 10-30 lucent. People ask well what are you winning? You explained exactly what you win by whaling and P2W.
I get why content creators push the "Its P2W but its not really P2W cause you can earn it in game" narrative. Its literally their job to push a false narrative with the hopes that maybe they make it to the partner program and maybe get a few years out of making content before moving on to another game. The white knighting by content creators towards this game is laughable though. You can spin P2W any way you want, but the bottom line is T&L rewards whales significantly by introducing content that is geared towards winning the best loot and lucent through power. Fastest way to get this power is by whaling and doing exactly what you describe. F2P players are literally content for whales at this stage in T&L.
This is what people don't understand. Having droppable items doesn't means it is not pay to win. Getting significant advantage through paying is the definition of real P2W. You get a significant head start through paying and after that snowball until the game dies is P2W. The first time I saw lucent in the shop and can be used in AH I definitely know spenders will always be miles away from non-spenders.

Before launch I tended to argue it was not pay 2 win and was more pay 2 progress, but having played a good bit now and seeing how the discrepancy in gear outweighs any and all skill in this game and how unlikely you as a single player are able to obtain the right gear has put me in the firm camp of it being "pay 2 win". There is no compelling argument to say it is not.
almost 200hrs in myself, and I have the same exact realization as you.
Join a good guild that can help you build your gear by doing weekly guild raid bosses, doing abyssal contracts, co-op dungeons, and of course some crazy luck.
We have a guild member that got the Band of Universal power and the Belt of Bloodlust from the weekly missions. Both items cost about 20-30k lucent the time he got it. So my point is, you can literally be on top 100 players in your server without swiping your card, just be with a decent guild and some crazy luck.

@@Robot256k you literally can, you can make an ALT (2nd character) and sell all the stuff that your ALT makes. And most of the P2W players now have nothing to do. Because they are now fully geared (which costed them so much lucent). But the T2 gears won't come anytime soon so the F2P players can catch up. And guess what? The items/gears are much cheaper now. One example is the heavy attack chance trait for purple weapons. Back then its around 1000-1200 lucent. now its only 180-200 lucent. More F2P players are getting good gears now. Its only a matter of time. Shadow pants, universal ring, and belt of bloodlust cost about 15k 2-3 weeks ago, now they only cost about 5-6k. give it another 2 weeks then it will be around 2500-3500.

Please remember the pay to win aspect when it comes to mmorpgs is 100% the time it takes to reach a goal. Being able to aquire the same outcome EVENTUALLY as a free to play player makes no difference when that same goal can be achieved in a day with 100 bucks. Anyone can be a millionaire, but it certainly helps when your father has been one since 2005 lol. Time is the difference when it comes to games like this, not access.
Understand he runs a guild and gets to farm all the bosses etc to earn that amount of lucent, if you are not in a good guild and aren't able to do conflict bosses as well as peace and aren't a dps class you aren't making that kind of lucent easily. Also understand that being able to get the items other players can by just putting money into the game does not remove the p2w aspect it just means that if you put in the time and have luck you can have what players who pay have eventually.

i play in a trash casual guild and still got almost all epic items, fully traited and i made ingame currency.. and i started playing 2 weeks ago so not even from the release, i got 4 epic items this week alone
What percentage of f2p players do you think have been lucky enough to get these epic drops and have been able to gear themself sufficiently to be able to engage in the pvp aspect without feeling like a pinata, I can assure you it is a small percentage that being the minority of f2p players and stating anecdotal evidence doesn't remove the fact that the game is p2w.
Example a fresh p2w player can come into the game get their character to 50 in less than a day and gear themself to compete in pvp - that alone means the game is p2w the skill or luck of individual players does not influence what is used to determine a p2w game.

When the second week people where at 3.5k gear score while the average f2p hardcore population reaches that stage 2-3 weeks later the game IS p2w. I'd argue the vast majority of characters are well short of 3.5k at this point. Most players I know are sub 3k and most have hit a wall because none are willing to spend money to get Lucent. The only time they advance gear is on the off chance of a lucky drop (either getting what they need or getting a high value extract/litho/sellable item).

I kinda find it a bit disingenuous when cc show their lucent earning from the auction house cause they leave out the fact that they have a very big advantage for being a cc. Personally, I made about 3.5 lucent on my main after a month of playing and about 1.5k on my alt for about 3 weeks of playing. Never had a world boss drop on either account and I’ve only just started doin guild raids after finally joining a stable guild. Not sure if my earning is the avg and don’t get me wrong it’s still a good amount of lucent, but I think it’s a more realistic showing and I doubt the avg player will be earning 10k+ lucent in a month unless they luck is godly
In his previous video or 2nd to last he actually showed where a huge bulk of that lucent came from, a world boss drop so he got extremely lucky and trying act like everyone is going to get a 7k item drop.
Sorry for your low earnings, but 2-3k lucent weekly is easily manageable by playing couple hours a day and maybe a little bit longer on the weekends. As far as it goes I did over 100 bosses since EA launch and never had a lucky drop or a big hit on weekly loot. But I’m selling everything I can on the AH and got about 16-20k in total.

It isnt just world bosses either, its also loot distribution in open world dungeons. That especially sucks for tanks, because in a group, you get very little loot

I'm a 9 to 5 gamer. I play a lot during the weekend, and i might play an hour or two a couple of evening during the week. I've been level 50 for one week. During that week, i made 3k lucent and completed my mid game gear. End game gear is a lot more expensive, but the grind is fun. Yes it's pay to progress, f2p players like myself will have to grind a lot more, but thats the fun of the game anyways imo. With a bit of RNG and good choices, I found that you can make a llot of lucent quite easily. The p2w part of the game for me isnt a game breaker at all, for now at least.

This game is broken tho. The cc stun locking of classes is busted and then the guild “pvp” is just zerging. I mean its ridiculius. There is no skill in being 100 guildies storming into a contested boss and wiping out smaller groups
an aspect not considered is how readily accessible those gears are for solo f2p players who joins the game alone. A solo p2w player can easily get into the top guilds by quite literally messaging any top guild leaders u can find, while a solo f2p player is gonna struggle to find trustworthy guildies that can aid him get his gear. There are exceptions of course like a veteran who played in KR who knows what he is doing b4hand or someone who just does a bunch of research b4 the game and snowballed his lucent farming early on when game launched b4 the market crashed.
game is definitely pay to win it does have a very low floor to spend and get ahead compared to other more p2w games but it also has a vey high ceiling to spend to get the top of the top gear. Its more of a pay 2 progress type of p2w not the ill pay more money so u can never touch my character while i 1v100 ur entire f2p team type of p2w.
you can't answer yes and no!!! it is p2w yes! however the mechanics of the trading and currency makes it have less of a negative effect for those who doesn't want to pay. If it makes you lvl up faster and gives an advantage(even if it's obtainable for everyone) it is p2w. You can pay to get epic stuff but most importantly, you don't have to, cause you won't have an unfair disadvantage by not paying. It was the same in Escape From Tarkov but they have ruined it, so now i play TL.

Dont expect to ever see gear drop from world bosses for you. The only way you will ever really see that loot is by swiping or playing in a guild (mainly guild bosses weekly)

The game is absolutely pay to win. People are dropping thousands of dollars for one piece of gear. You also need a guild to get the best gear, and with the guild setup, you can easily get robbed. There are items on the AH that are being bought for 4-6k$ real life money.
But its not P2W bro you can get that item in game so that means its just pay to progress faster and you can earn that $4-6k lucent easily in game by just selling a few items like me. I'm 10000 GS and I've only been playing for a month F2P and got 200k lucent in the bank selling lithographs you can farm easily in the open world (average T&L content these days on UA-cam)

If you´d earn lucent via dungeons or bosses or whatever, sure. But every Lucent in the system has once been bought with money, and the taxes take lucent out of the system as well (and distributes some of it back to the top guilds). So constant money flow is guarenteed ..
Now is that a bad thing though? Well thats up to you, I don´t mind it, I spent 200€ and I´m all geared up now, given with a bit more budget build but it´s enough to compete in PvP. And a lot of progression can´t even be bought, good luck trying to swipe up your weapon mastery, or leveling your skills .. thats the real grind and can not be payed.

It's not pay to win. A player has to farm that item an place it onto the auction house. It's not being directly sold by the company themselves and it's accessible to all players, not just those willing to play money to get ahead a little faster.
