@@alanrossreviews actually when I want to listen to it, yes. In this case I was listening to Jimmy Buffet radio and was very impressed. I did not "blast" it but gave it enough to realize it sounded really good. I have multiple small speakers and this is my first larger one. For the price I do like it, can't wait to take it to the beach when I fish.

I just bought one for $43 and can't wait for it to get here to compare with my buddy's Milwaukee 2891 jobsite speaker, which so far is my favorite as we can go wide open across the lake and still hear it perfectly
How was the comparison?
Softened the texture in high frequency tape reel noise amplified by D8's EQ mode playing a CD file of a live recording of Count Basie's "Prime Time" song connected to D8's 3.5mm AUX and my 2010 MacMini headphone out. The noise change came by setting Mac OS utility app "Audio MIDI Setup" headphone out to 24 bit. Had it set at 16 bit.
Because the D8 is so loud I can here this detail more than on my headphones where I have to set the volume in the middle, but on the D8 I can max out the Mac's output volume (0-db according to Audio MIDI Setup readout) and adjust volume on the D8. I don't use Bluetooth. I'm an audiophile so I love what I can do remastering songs through the D8 because of its up front loud sound stage in EQ mode. The D8 handles the severe ear piercing high frequency peaks in trumpet screech artist Maynard Ferguson's "La Fiesta". I thought I was going to tear the D8 tweeters but its (I'm assuming) built in compressor handled it very well.

Mr. Ross, first off, let me say that I appreciate the work that you put into your reviews. Very well made, detailed and there is no other channel like this quite like this one. As far as the W King D8 is concerned I've watches two of your videos and have a question. Can this speaker only pair with one device at a time or many ? If you did mention it then my apologies. yes only one device at a time for audio. like you could have one device connected for phone audio and another for media audio but not both for the same audio type.

yeah once you are over 50% the sound balances out. less than that bit muddy for my liking. goes loud for sure.
Do u think this could be loud enough to be used outside on a soccer field at about 20-30 meters?

@@jonathangomez7094 If you crank it all the way up yeah it'd be plenty loud. I've had it cranked in a separate room at my studio ~ 10 meters away w/ the door closed and it still was audible... although outside I'm sure it'd still be heard.. maybe get a 2nd one and link them up?

You can make it more clear with digital equalisers and also boost or reduce or improve certain frequencies which takes no time
Purchased the W King after 2 weeks of reviewing speakers. You had me just about convinced to go with the motion +, but after lookin at all my options & the fact I'm gonna use the speaker on my Kawasaki, Vulcan motorcycle, i went with the louder choice.
Will let you know next week how it does.
I'm guessing / hoping i will get at least 100 + decibels with the W King system.
The $100 dollar hard wired, handel bar mounted speakers didn't cut it. I'm thinkin the carrying strap will fit over the wind screen and it will rest nicely on the handle bar, maybe add some heavy duty velcro to the underside if need be.

thanks for the comments! 👍 there is a lot of stuff i would like to review but time and money limits. i note all requests but not sure i would make much use of bookshelf speakers at this point. i did have some decent ones years back, mostly mission, but sold all my gear to go smaller and portable. i do miss a proper hifi but neighbour issues means i cant make the most of a decent setup. I may be looking for some decent desktop monitors though so might come back to this.
@@alanrossreviews I'm always curious about what the rare hi-fi-head with a deep knowledgebase and a knack for verbosity has to say about those particular speakers just because I'm in the likewise rare category of schmuck who just happened to luck into a pair of them for literally... well, nothing! That said, I view them like God personally made them for me since I couldn't be more impressed with the features, sound quality, a properly solid build and just imo most importantly: they practically laugh at me when I think I'm about to 'put them through a little hell for a bit here' and then neighbor-relations become much more relavent far sooner than any thought of having taken those speakers far beyond any reasonable upper limit and well into the speaker afterlife [when using the sub-out for the record]. Just nice to have that lofty opinion without the pride factor weighing in heavily due to that price tag they have. At that msrp i am fully aware of my irrationally heightened defensiveness towards any critical eye towards whatever purchase I've made for something entirely superfluous in the grand scheme.

Amazon now has the Alpatronix version at 60/80 watts with TF card option added. [Upgraded] Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker 60W (80W Max). With more watts I'd have to assume the drivers have also been upgraded for more power. That comparison would be nice to see, this one vs the W-King with Alan's magical carpet ride tour.

@@alanrossreviews The first time noticed it was yesterday on 8/23. It has 824 reviews so that would mean it's been out for a long while or the reviews between the previous unit and upgraded unit are mixed together. Some are date back in April concerning the 60 watts. How come nobody knows about it? I flat out missed it or might have opted for the 60. I now have the W-King D8 (best for outdoors), my Doss Soundbox XL (best for kitchen window sill), Motion+ (for my bicycle).

@@alanrossreviews I like a richer sound with more bass in the kitchen for lower listening levels.
After further testing with the Aux input line being used the pair will not transmit to the remote "stereo" speaker which is kind of stupid. If you set this pair up for in-house entertainment and want a 100% reliable connection, then you would obviously use the Aux line in and not bluetooth like most stereo systems. That's means you lose the pairing stereo advantage. I tried it several times and as soon as the Aux is connected the second speaker cuts off.

It would be interesting to find out if the Laola Aura is simply the same box, but rebranded. It can be had for about £45 right now. The housing is the same, but the stated specs differ a little, claiming 20w per driver instead of 25w. No info on battery capacity or passive radiators either, unlike the W-King
there sure is a lot of speakers using that box.
Got my pair today, amazing sound & perfect TWS.
I did read where someone suggested (if you don't like the boominess at lower volumes such as for a desktop application) to fold same paper towels or similar material, foam etc. and sandwich it between the end caps and the passive drivers. This way it will change or dampen the base effect to your liking.
hum, seems a bit dramatic, i mean this is why you buy this speaker in the first pace for the bass i would have thought.
I noticed that Diamondboxx has a pair called the 40TWS for $129 each. Sounds like a new challenger on the way.

On today's test they didn't disconnect ( the pair) but they were closer together also. They are fantastic at full volume in stereo outdoors and for almost free. My Iphone 7 read the W-King NFC data after I loaded an app but it never paired when touching them together. The music still played on the Iphone speaker. Not sure how that's supposed to work.

dont have d7 (why these daft names?) but prefer the d9 over d8 but both have issues. bass is better on d9 so thats only reason i say i prefer it, i would listen to it outside of a comparison.
Does not seem like it makes enough difference to make the speakers easy to damage. Just ordered mine just under $70 (usd) over going with a kobalt 24v job site speaker I’d been considering ($79 usd +tax) and will be mainly used in one of the class b delivery trucks I drive that has a broken radio so I can have music and gps audio at a decent volume, it may also make its rounds out when I’m doing field work (not actual field work but out at customers homes on service calls and paint service on our tanks), will definitely get some use here on the weekends as well.
i would prefer the motion boom though personally for deeper bass but not louder bass.

My mind has always been blown over such tight and small speaker hole grills. It appears more solid than open by observation. I think of a sound wave as propagating out of the driver in a uniform and smooth fashion. If that sound wave hits a perforated cover, seems like it would break apart into tiny waves trying to squeeze thru the tiny holes in the cover like water would do in drips. Seems like the change would be dramatic. I guess you proved that theory wrong or the human level of hearing can't perceive such changes anyhow. Pro speakers usually do not obstruct the drivers but of course this application is for the protection of the drivers.
kind of right. sound is waves but speakers and your room create all manner of peaks dips and everything inbetween. so it is never one smooth wave like a single ripple on a pond.
I just picked up a D7 60watt off Amazon thinking it was an upgrade to the other models which were slightly cheaper. I'm finding out those were D8 speakers now and I'm wondering if I made a bad decision.

I use mine with an equaliser on my phone to cut some of the bass and boost the highs and it's great, cost me about £60
yeah decent value but we have the motion boom now which offers a bit more in sound but not volume.
I agree with your opinion on the w-king. I received one today and have been listening to it. I don't like the bass, if some indistinct thud thud noise is considered bass. I happen to listen at low volume and the low noise (bass) overpowers the rest of the sound. I think they use the wrong cross-over frequency for this speaker. Any recommendation, other than the Tribit, for low-volume listening?

There is one feature of the W-King, which you obviously didn't realize: If you're not using it on max volume level, you can extremely adjust the bass level through the relation between sound source volume and speaker volume: E.g. if you set your music player on 30% volume and the speaker on 100% volume, you get the described big bass. But if you set your music player on 100% volume and the speaker on 30% volume, you get much less bass. This way you can adjust the bass level exactly to your taste. This feature works on using with cable/aux as well as with bluetooth, also with bt stereo link.
Hi wondering if you can help, I have 2 of these speakers they both work perfectly.
However I have found a very annoying problem.
If i am listening to music on one of the speakers & someone turns on the other speaker, the first speaker just totally freezes.
You can't connect to it or turn it off or anything. You have to let the battery totally drain away & then re-charge it.
After this it works fine again until someone turns on the other speaker.
If I turn them both on together & link them they work fine, but if one is already on & then you turn the other on it messes up & freezes.
Any ideas? I tried renaming the Bluetooth but doesn't make any difference.

After watching 3,000 W-King videos, the greatest surprise in person was the heft or mass of this speaker. It really feels like you're getting a $300 speaker for free. I also very easily removed the straps by separating at the joint in the metal clasp using pliers. I slid the strap right off on each side in a minute or 2. You can also put them right back on again. It did require some force to bend the metal enough to slip off the strap.

I did notice that when you removed the side panels the screws don't go back in again correctly. They have chewed away or stripped out the plastic and are now turning without getting tight. That's too bad but I didn't need the panels installed anyway.
right, they dont help bass at all, just there for protection.

man there are so many speakers out there :) i am one man doing a bunch of other things as well 😊 id love to review eveything but i dont have time or funds 😝 to be honest id not looked at this one but it looks a bit on the high price and not the best form factor for me. is it just a bass box or does it do hifi?

The diamondboxx is an awesome speaker it only weighs 11 lb it's the loudest thing you've ever heard and it's not a Boombox it's actually hi-fi. You can watch the review from olav clavinetjunkie. It's handmade in California USA. there's a 20 hour battery and a 40 hour battery. I paid the extra $100 and got the 40 hour battery . Yes it's on the expensive side but everybody that reviews it says it's worth every penny.

I was wondering what if only the caps were removed which is what I will probably do anyway to fit them on my bike. My main question is if I have a pair linked in stereo but want to use the line-in jack for improved sound quality, will it still transmit to the second speaker when linked together or is that only a bluetooth function? I can't find the owner's manual to confirm.
sorry i dont have a pair to test. some speakers do not require bluetooth to phone to pair, just to each other. so yes it is possible they MAY pair wirelessly in stereo and play via aux, but i dont know for sure.
@@alanrossreviews Does that mean that the primary Aux speaker will be better quality sound while the remote speaker will be degraded due to BT codex limitations? OR perhaps at least not degraded twice? Wouldn't a degrade happen from BT device to primary and then again from primary to remote? They should have allowed them to be wired together also. I'm not sure how the process works remotely. Perhaps it only forwards the device signal after separating the L and R channels.

I just got my D8 yesterday, plays loud...good bass. But the mids to upper mids seem to break up and distort at high volume (ie piano frequencies). Is this normal or is mine defective?

thats the 24 thousand dollar question! :) its likely to change but better? i really dont play it anywhere near enough to know the answer. anything with moving parts will change over time, its physics, and as for the electronics some believe in burn in others dont. personally i believe in changes to the sound over time rather than saying it gets better.

my mics are fine. thats how it sounds. a lot will depend on what you are playing back on. if its not flat you wont hear what it really sounds like.

Update: I have received (2) D9s. They are louder, no distortion at max vol with way less boominess than the D8. Woofers are much larger to handle the max power. I only play mine outdoors at max volume with virtuoso trumpet (me) and these are fantastic for that cause. They seem very well balanced. I hope A. Ross can analyze these soon. Still probably not for indoor critical listening but I'm still breaking mine in, they might get even better. Got mine 30% off which was a steal. I'm sure the passive single woofer that is oddly rectangular and quite large has something to do with controlling the boominess. Seemed to be really tuneful and pleasant at max vol.
Soundcore motion+ is better than the w-king D8 ?
w-king is a boombox, if you want boomign bass the wking is better, other motion plus is better.

Long live the King! We'll see how long it lasts under my abuses. I'm now very curious about the Alpatronix 60 watt. We all know that curiosity killed the cat. Not any videos on this one either, only the 40 watt version. I'm resisting the temptation to buy one at the moment or at least until someone (hint, hint) says it's the greatest bargain since the W-King! Long live the King! But can it be dethroned by Alpatronix???

You should compare the green/black D8 you have to one of the other D8 versions, the all black or the black/silver grille. I know the green/black and the black/silver grille D-8's I have do not sound quite the same.

@@Co-km6cl I can only speak for what I have and don't know if all of the from each color variation sound the same. These Chinese companies tend to "upgrade" their headphones and speakers often. Sometimes the upgrade is for the worse. The green one I have plays a bit louder and seems to have just a bit better bass response compared to the silver grille black one. The silver grill one is also a bit brighter and on EQ2 mode can get harsh at louder volumes.
So leave grill on, take side woofer plastics off ;0)

by removing the plastic on the sides, does the bass response improve? but is it possible to remove the screws with a hand screwdriver?

I cannot remember if I used a screwdriver or an allen key to remove the side plastics, but I do remember that it was very easy to do.

I put the plastics back soon after, because I preferred to have the side woofers covered and protected rather than left exposed and more open to being damaged.

@@DANIEL1991zxcvbnm No, removing them only changed the sound very very slightly. As I already said, removing them and putting them back on was very easy, so just try it yourself. Maybe you will like the small change in sound, if you don't then it will only take 5 minutes to put the plastic back.

Now I'm seeing an "Upgraded" version of the W-King D8 on Amazon US but don't see what's different about it anywhere. Any clues?

@@alanrossreviews One item in the description claims that it has (2) 25 watt main drivers. My older manual says 20/20/10/10 watts. So does this mean the main drivers have been upgraded possibly to 25? It doesn't reveal that the amp has been upgraded. But if peak power is 70 then the woofers should be able to handle the peak with less distortion. My book states the BT is only 4.2 however the new one states 5.0. The fine print usually states that they can change the specs at any time without notice.
The "UPGRADED" word has been removed since I questioned W-King about it. They never replied back to me email but the word has since been removed. The specs have changed from what my book states and as I mentioned above. If I knew it didn't distort I would buy a second pair because I perform using mine several times a week.
"upgraded" on amazon pisses me off, they do that on so many items

@@godspeedsr1471 But with what audio volume do you notice the bass in DOSS XL? I bought one of DOSS XL (VERSION 1.1) but I was disappointed, it feels more mids-high and high than bass, and the bass is not so deep compared to the Tribit Maxsound... quite different from the video of "oluv's gadgets", which was able to perceive the vibration of even 10 hz ... I am inquiring with the company if the frequency response has been changed in this new version v1.1 ... the Stormbox tribit has the most convincing bass, at least up to medium volumes ...however sound clarity in the mids, in the highs, and the great soundstage, is perfect for me, for my ear it is the best of all the speakers I have tried ... but the bass so little present really shocked me.... and to think that initially I was afraid of having to often use an equalizer to lower the bass ... for now exactly the opposite has happened ...
@@DANIEL1991zxcvbnm Definitely something wrong with yours then as the Doss XL is a bass monster, much more than the Motion+. Quality control isn't the best on the Doss stuff, especially the first version with it's crappy power socket, so I'd send it back for another one.
@@techreviews6690 Even a second unit, I hadn't noticed a particularly deep bass (little more than the maxsound). maybe my expectations were too inflated, however now I realized I was going to real 2.0, big speakers, wanting to share seriously and with greater quality with people ... indeed in a certain sense I thank this big disappointment for DOSS, for letting me understand this
@@DANIEL1991zxcvbnm The only issue I've ever had with bass on the XL is too much bass causing the whole thing to vibrate around and nearly fall off the shelf which has happened on several occasions. Whilst I love my Motion+ I do miss that amazing low-end rumble on the XL, which is why I'm astonished you found it lacking - it obviously can't compete with full size speakers but it's full of bottom end for a unit of it's size.
I think the W-king sounds significantly better listening high quality songs (flac), especially with aux cable. The sound seems more defined and cleaner. Is it possible?
its possible if you compare low bitrate to high bitrate and shit recordings vs good recordings. however its still only sbc so pretty limited.
@@alanrossreviews yes, the sbc is a limit for sound quality, but if you use aux cable to listen high quality songs i think it sounds very nice, maybe because of the quality of the drivers, especially for the price.

Can I get an Alan Ross reviews tee shirt? I received my W-Kings pair today and hit the open road for a test run. Twice the bluetooth connection failed, once for each speaker in the middle of playing. Not sure what's going on with that however the stereo was loud and a lot of fun while I jammed along on my trumpet. I had them on 100% with the eq boost activated. I ordered an aux out cable for my Iphone to see if that works better with a line connected. Anyone else having these disconnect at random while playing them?

Just be like I make UA-cam videos compare different speakers and just wanted to know if you could add an equalizer to the connect app and try to make it louder, because the 80$ speaker was so much louder with more punchy bass
