Just bought the D8 to blast out tunes in the warehouse, where I work. Tried it at home for the first time last night. It's brilliant! Reviews never cover rock and metal but it does it brilliantly. Really pleased with it. Got a motion+ coming tomorrow for my kitchen. Your vids helped me choose. 🙂
D9 really shines in max volume. Mainly used outdoors to 80-100% volume. Packs a punch for a small speaker with no real distortion. I agree the D8's sounds better in lower volumes but didn't buy these to play good music indoors at lower volumes, there are other speakers for that.
I have the D8 and a friend of mine just got the D9 and now I want one too. It sounds bloody fantastic even at highest volume and it is very loud! The D9 currently costs less at amazon than the D8 and sounds much better and louder. Just placed my order, but thanks to you -- I think I will pass on the firmware update. Cheers!
I would've thought that most of the D9s for sale now would've been shipped with updated firmware? I suppose it's possible some older units are still out there though.
I'm using my Status 3 IEM Ear buds so I can VERY clearly hear the difference. I bought the D8 years ago and LOVED it. I had no clue I saw the price and went for it. A few years later I got the D10. You even commented on my comment on another video of yours... the D8 is constantly leveled in sound and bass. It has way more fullness sound to it compared to the D9 and D10..
Great Video! Thankyou for using metrics that actually matter and doing real testing. Interesting to see how these compare to the Braven BRV-XL, sadly they have been discontinued.
This is the best opportunity to wish you in the new year: good health, good luck, at least 5 times as many subscribers, producers started sending you speakers for testing, and you don't have to buy everyone and everything you want :).
best to not get free speakers as its easier to be open and honest that way. unless we are talking the really expensive stuff of course, then yeah send me 😋 Happy new year to you! btw my biggest problem is not the buying its the time to do the videos.
Hey Alan,, My D9 does not need the firmware update. It's is so crisp and warm beefy bass I used the tube amp pro and the adopt a sound under 30 yrs.. Sounds ridiculously amazing 👏 . If you have a Samsung Android phone use those 2 options on the built in EQ under sound settings I keep everything flat on the mix. Low bass is nice and deep and clarity is crisp. Try it and redo your audio file test! Sounds amazing at all volumes. The Best speaker you must rerun your diagnostics with these settings. 😁👍🏻
Sweet! Thanks. I do play a pair of D9s at maximum and they sound good at the top. At 30% off it was a good deal. The distortion is bad on the D8 at max. I also removed my D9 handles because I don't need them. I'll bet that the ratio of cabinet size to woofer size isn't proportional to the D8. Drivers appear too large for the cabinet. It's also possible that they sound better as 2 independent channels, one per unit instead of shared. The combination of every factor makes them an instrument all their own, meaning that D9 is a completely different instrument than the D8. Hopefully they will keep adjusting the EQ to make it better or provide us an assortment to chose from.
By the way, the D9 handle can be detached if the two flat rubber cap in each side is removed. There are 2 screws per side. The D8 grill can also be removed if you use nylon fishing line bent in a curve, sticking in and out through the holes of the grill. No scratches like that ;-)
hey bro, could you give me a hand, I can't find how to remove the handle, do you know of any page or video that shows how to do it? I don't want to damage the horn
@@marcosg7568 Just like I wrote, there is a flat piece of black rubber on each end of the handle. Pry it off and underneath are two hey screws per side, this is where the handle is attached.
The audio balance could be corrected using an app. It’s always nice when audio companies release an app to edit speaker audio settings, but when that option is available you can find apps to directly change audio settings on your paired device. So the more bass forward approach is meh, I do like the bigger battery, and the increased power, plus I do love bass. Though I just want a speaker that will out perform my JBL flip 4 which died after 3 years, and the W King D9 at a slight discount seems worth it.
Thank you for this review Really appreciate and respect the time you spent on this review 💜 ..shame at 100% and outdoor mode it's not louder than normal mode
on the d8 the tweeters look like if they had some foam behind the tweeters and most likely ferrofluid in them and for me the d8 sounded more natural.......
Ferrite speakers and larger is a cheap alternative because the paper is cheap and ferrite is the only expense when you don't have to increase watt output to be cleaner with high-efficiency magnets. But they didn't go with ferrite mags.
for me the d8 has a better applied design and has a better performance for those who like higher sound quality ... the D9 totally escaped the proposal that the D8 brought with great success .... 2 drivers with 1 passive radiator ??? ? you can't! your videos are top ... help me a lot in my choice of speakers
Another new WKing called the X10 that looks like the JBL: W-KING 70W Bluetooth Speaker with Super Rich Bass, Fast Charging, Bluetooth 5.0, 15000mAh Battery Power Bank, IPX6 Waterproof, Loud Crystal Clear Audio, TWS, Mic for Outdoor, Party, Camping, Home. Odd that nowhere in this description appears the "X10" title. This one does have titanium drivers.
@@alanrossreviews It does sound impressive same as the flux capacitor which is what makes time travel possible. :) Can't wait for you to analyze both the T9 and X10. And perhaps the JBL vs X10, etc. Could the record actually get broken this time?
How do you get the front grill off of the D9 I can’t find any videos of disassembly? I’m trying to remove my grill but don’t want to damage it or not be able to put it back together afterwards
Nice video... I got a Divoom Mocha speaker for Xmas and I got my mum a little Divoom Macchiato stocking filler for £23.. and we both we're surprised how good it is for it's small size. Anyways.. Happy New Year best wishes for 2021 Alan!
you can remove the handle on the D9 by taking off the small little tape on the side where the handle connects to the speaker and use a small hex tool to take out the screws and the handle comes right off. It takes about 2 minutes. You can also set the handle on the other side, not sure why you would want to but it's an option haha.
Well thanks for that, since I was super happy with my D8 even if it weren't as face meltingly loud as I wanted it to be to compete with my lawn mower and being set stationary by my door with me being a maximum distance of about 200ft from it. THOUGH even on the mower, it's not amazingly loud either. It gets to "AUDIBLE" over the rumble of the motor. It's a push electric motor. WHICH is frustrating since I have a Mifa F60 and it seems equally loud and cleaner in half the size. I don't regret the purchase. Edit: but this did help me decide not to go with the D9.
Whats the loudest budget portable speaker? I was looking at the d9. I need something for my boat. My motor is 2 stroke so its pretty loud. Waiting something i can hear over the motor
@alanrossreviews yea, sounds quality and base isn't a big thing for me. Every vehicle I get I turn bass off and treble up. Something loud that don't sound blown haha
@@alanrossreviews I see. I have some pretty good EQ apps and am trying to make the D8 sound better for jazz and r&b from my phone. I will see what I can do from the frequency response graph.
I'm sure the wking d9 motion boom compare is coming. It would be a bloodbath. Just got my boom and I am just loving it. To beat it you would need harmon kardon or sonos
from what i can hear D8 would be a better comparison! D9 sounds like a downgrade, just close your eyes or don't look at screen and judge what one sounds better.
I wonder if there will be a bigger difference between them if you use a line in with a external DAC that has its own DAC? Because I know Bluetooth crushes fidelity a lot too. I use the LG V series of phones which have the quad Hi-Fi DAC.
@@alanrossreviews Sounds like I'll have to use Wavelet to fine-tune the bass curvature. Usually transient compressor will help the low frequencies roll off a little better. I listen to this video with decent quality headphones and it sounds like the d9 does get a little too muddy. Also you got some great audio recording equipment by the way :}
yeah w-king knows its crowd and the limits of the speakers. the one that surprised me was and still is the t9, very different tuning and nicely open sounding,.
@@alanrossreviews Just got mine and I ran it through the gauntlet. It is WAY better in Aux than bluetooth. With bluetooth I notice there is a hiss, a tape hiss in a way. But with Aux in, its way cleaner and seems to utilize the tweeters more too. At 100% on the unit and 50% on the phone, its pretty well rounded, enough to shake the pop cans 5 feet away off my desk and I have an Ikea countertop-like desk haha.
How did you get the front grill cover off of the D9? I'm trying to pull the grill off but there are no apparent connection points to pry on without bending or cracking anything.
Question: what about the latency via the auxiliary? I want to buy a d8 for my portable scratchtable. My jbl boombox has latency via the aux and is unusable. Thanks
very great job ! Listening your records on 813 Urei, i can listen what you describe !!! Thnaks for the job ( if i can ask, what is your freq analyzer ?) :-)
Hello Alan say I looked on amazon to possibly buy my 2nd d9 and was wondering if you might know or seen this but if ya look up the d9 om amazon underneath it says styles.. if ya click om it it says there's a new model available in april or the normal model which Willie in stock again om Feb 4th but Alan do you have any idea what the heck that newer model option is???
Hi, You might not have the w king d9 anymore, but do you know how much mAh it drains down by using it on full volume level.. I have one I use it on full volume for about 7-8 hours straight, I'm wanting to buy a few Anker powerbanks about 26800 mAh, to keep the volume full loudness as if it has a full battery as I think volume level reduces after some hours a bit at full volume, some Anker powerbanks have USB C Pd, & some have iQ, and some have pd charging at 45 watt and some at 60 watt output, and some at 18watt and lower, but prices go very high so I was wondering what would be best to keep the volume of the d9 at the highest for 7 hours, it will last that long but I want it at full highest volume strong
I know it's a stupid question but how does this compare to JBL Flip 5 as they are similar price yet this seems way better cause it's bigger. I need it for inside the houses taking up stairs and downstairs and maybe in the car sometimes, what's the better option. I like bass btw so I'm assuming this is way better in terms of low and high bass.
Can you help me please .I've noticed with no music playing there is loud hissing or white noise coming from my w king d9 when the aux cable is plugged in and the light is green. I dont rember hearing that before my other bt speakers dont have this issue.can you plugged in an aux cable and let me know if I need a replacement speaker?
@@alanrossreviews so you can hear the white noise hiss then ?should it not be silent like my other bt speakers ?ps thank you very much for replying now you saved me the hassle in getting it returned and replaced
you should only be able to hear it right up close and not over music. bluetooth isnt silent, in fact people call it bluetooth hiss. you shouldnt be able to hear it when playing music is the point.
@@alanrossreviews but I'm not talking about hissing white noise over blue tooth, bluetooth its totally silent even holding speaker to ear I'm talking about the speaker makes white noise hiss sounds if you plug in the 3.5mm aux cable and dont play any music in a quiet room you can hear it easy or hold it to your ear. Sorry for the misunderstanding I thought I wrote the original post clearly my apologies.so please plug in a 3.5mm cable and make sure the led is green so it's in aux mode and check for me.as I think I'm going to have to send this new d9 back as hissing dosent seem normal considering my other bt speakers are silent with aux cable
no i understood. i get hissing on aux only with ear to speaker. but you said silent like other bluetooth speakers so i just mentioned they are known for hiss.

Hi Alan I just got myself off of Amazon the D9 - 1 hoping it would be loud enough at the top of the vert skateboard ramp Blasting rock metal and punk tunes but I have two issues, there’s only two sounds the standard being way too Bassy With the second option sounding clearer and I would like a little bit more volume on top of this like 30 % or more... do you know of any speaker that’s louder than this one for me to try around 100 to 120 top whack.. Thanks man from JAY
Hey, is there a big loudness difference between the D9 and Motion Boom? Which one of the two would you recommend as an outdoor party speaker with the most umpf? Do you have a recommendation aside from these D9 (D8) and the Motion Boom for maximum loudness with decent sound for outdoor dancing? Thank you and greetings from Germany : )
Hello... Can u do a review on a divoom voombox PRO (or divoom mocha) vs W-King d8? Here in Europe are at the same price, i know how Pro sounds like but i want to know if the d8 proves better performance(especially on bass) Thanks for your great work... Happy new year and All the best
The D-9 has been on sale for 30 % off or $60) which makes it viable. Otherwise, get d-8 or Anker boom or motion. Honestly, you could justify owning a motion plus, and a boom box if you need more volume. $71 renewed for motion plus is tempting...m
Would it make a difference if we took out the green side covers/cages in the D8? Also, isn't there a bit of space to wrap a strap through the hinges of the handle?
I find the d8 will do well for most people I use mine as both my game speaker via a aux cable for no latency issues like Bluetooth and for my yard pool speaker and powerbank lol

@@alanrossreviews The US version isn't Karaoke that I know of. It doesn't come with a remote or mic and the battery is larger plus 20 more watts over the D9. What's catching on around here are the "partyboxes". Glorified boombox with LEDs. The UA-cam clips of T9 I heard sounded really crisp and clean and not too bass heavy. I work in a machine shop that runs right around 80-82 Dbl all day, and where I work I have to use high-pressure air on my tooling making it even worse. I had a Tribit Max, and it was meh (volume-wise), I constantly had issues with being able to hear audiobooks with it even on full volume. Do know of any Bluetooth speakers that can get much louder than a Tribitmax? Or would you suggest another Bluetooth speaker? I am not looking for a speaker with loud bass, that's why I originally bought a Tribitmax. I wish Tribit made a larger version.
no they cannot play down to 30hzz as part of a track, of course you could play a single 30hz test tone, turn the speaker to max and ou will hear it but thats a totally rolled off 30hz and never would you hear it ina track. as for filters aka dsp they will limit the amount of bass but as far as i can tell do apply a total high pass filter.

I'm sure the wking d9 motion boom compare is coming. It would be a bloodbath. Just got my boom and I am just loving it. To beat it you would need harmon kardon or sonos
from what i can hear D8 would be a better comparison! D9 sounds like a downgrade, just close your eyes or don't look at screen and judge what one sounds better.
its a welcome option for deep bass.
I dropped my d9 and one of the speakers in the front make a noise. I don’t know how to take the grill off. How did you take yours off
Any information on the 60watt D7 in comparison?
I wonder if there will be a bigger difference between them if you use a line in with a external DAC that has its own DAC? Because I know Bluetooth crushes fidelity a lot too. I use the LG V series of phones which have the quad Hi-Fi DAC.
in theory yes but a lot of these speakers still apply dsp to the analogue in. and those that dont often sound worse because they NEED dsp 😭
@@alanrossreviews Sounds like I'll have to use Wavelet to fine-tune the bass curvature. Usually transient compressor will help the low frequencies roll off a little better. I listen to this video with decent quality headphones and it sounds like the d9 does get a little too muddy. Also you got some great audio recording equipment by the way :}
yeah w-king knows its crowd and the limits of the speakers. the one that surprised me was and still is the t9, very different tuning and nicely open sounding,.
@@TheNiteNinja19 sounds like job done then 👍 👍
How did you get the front grill cover off of the D9? I'm trying to pull the grill off but there are no apparent connection points to pry on without bending or cracking anything.
prise it off with small flat head screwdriver
Question: what about the latency via the auxiliary? I want to buy a d8 for my portable scratchtable. My jbl boombox has latency via the aux and is unusable. Thanks
Its in the specs section
Love your videos can you do a comparison of the w king d8 vs the Clearon bt backpack
its not really one on my list to be honest 🙂
The D8 has a micro SD card slot aswell. The UK version.
Out of all the w-king which is the best ?
H10 💁
very great job ! Listening your records on 813 Urei, i can listen what you describe !!! Thnaks for the job ( if i can ask, what is your freq analyzer ?)
:-)
the graphs are just grabs from audacity
@@alanrossreviews Thanks !. As you know audio, try "Voicemeeter" a french great mixer and more. sure you love.there is a good analyzer too.
Where did you get the Jerry Lawler crown lol? Great content as always.
Stole it from the kid next door 🤫😁
The d8 you can make calls on on my phone i can anyways but i dont know which i like the most
the motion boom👌🏻is by far the better of the 2...
🎉🙏🏻Happy New Year🍻🎊
Happy new year 🎅
Hello Alan say I looked on amazon to possibly buy my 2nd d9 and was wondering if you might know or seen this but if ya look up the d9 om amazon underneath it says styles.. if ya click om it it says there's a new model available in april or the normal model which Willie in stock again om Feb 4th but Alan do you have any idea what the heck that newer model option is???
Nope and i would hope its better than the d9 at the very least.
hope its a fabric handle instead of plastic
Hi, You might not have the w king d9 anymore, but do you know how much mAh it drains down by using it on full volume level.. I have one I use it on full volume for about 7-8 hours straight, I'm wanting to buy a few Anker powerbanks about 26800 mAh, to keep the volume full loudness as if it has a full battery as I think volume level reduces after some hours a bit at full volume, some Anker powerbanks have USB C Pd, & some have iQ, and some have pd charging at 45 watt and some at 60 watt output, and some at 18watt and lower, but prices go very high so I was wondering what would be best to keep the volume of the d9 at the highest for 7 hours, it will last that long but I want it at full highest volume strong
you need to find out what the maximum charge rate of the speaker is. most likely 10 watts.
I know it's a stupid question but how does this compare to JBL Flip 5 as they are similar price yet this seems way better cause it's bigger. I need it for inside the houses taking up stairs and downstairs and maybe in the car sometimes, what's the better option. I like bass btw so I'm assuming this is way better in terms of low and high bass.
the boom would fit between them all, have you looked at the motion boom?
Can you help me please .I've noticed with no music playing there is loud hissing or white noise coming from my w king d9 when the aux cable is plugged in and the light is green.
I dont rember hearing that before my other bt speakers dont have this issue.can you plugged in an aux cable and let me know if I need a replacement speaker?
i can only hear anything with my ear right up to the drivers
2 speakers I noticed like goin loud and fit for outdoors, the Neocore Wave A4 and the D9. Which one would you recommend for outdoors Alan?
hum, i think the neocore, nicer form factor.
@@alanrossreviews but the neocore doesnt have a handle to shield it from the rain, does it? Hahahahaahahaha! What about sound quality wise, between both em? Which would you think would fare better outdoors?
neither are great but i would prefer the neocore, less wrong with it. 😳
Thanks for the video please reccomend some of this music or the channel you got it playing from
i scavenge all over youtube 😁
Is the latency affected by the EQ mode being active or disabled?
i havent tested for a difference but i would guess it would not effect it since all modes use the same dsp.
@@alanrossreviews OK thanks.
Thanks man from JAY
what currency?????????? 😂
The neocore a4 also goes loud assuming you are on a budget
Yes d9 is louder
Does taking the grill off making it louder? And how long does the battery last?
Hello... Can u do a review on a divoom voombox PRO (or divoom mocha) vs W-King d8? Here in Europe are at the same price, i know how Pro sounds like but i want to know if the d8 proves better performance(especially on bass) Thanks for your great work... Happy new year and All the best
happy new year 😊
The D-9 has been on sale for 30 % off or $60) which makes it viable. Otherwise, get d-8 or Anker boom or motion. Honestly, you could justify owning a motion plus, and a boom box if you need more volume. $71 renewed for motion plus is tempting...m
lots of good options now that dont include £300 for a jbl xtreme. 😜
@@alanrossreviews yeah, I would rather own $300 of assorted cheap Chinese speakers... Two motions and 2 d8s are just above $300 when d8 is on sale
Would it make a difference if we took out the green side covers/cages in the D8? Also, isn't there a bit of space to wrap a strap through the hinges of the handle?
makes almost no difference removing the sides. not sure what you mean about strap as it already has a strap.
My driver is bigger than yours! Size does matter. I finally figured it out. Alan is the, the, the W-King D9 grinch! Kidding and keep up the good work!
😋
I find the d8 will do well for most people I use mine as both my game speaker via a aux cable for no latency issues like Bluetooth and for my yard pool speaker and powerbank lol
Sure a good value speaker but a bit crude sounding for me personally.
@@alanrossreviews if ya use a eq on say Spotify most speakers will sound good the w-kings have a rather flat default which is great for the extra eq I can make most of my music sound fantastic even something like avenged sevenfold lol
Can you do aux and BT at the same time?
The all new WKing T9 (not D9) is now available on Amazon in US. I ordered a pair to try them out. Waiting but I'll let you know.
advertised as a karaoke speaker 😁
@@alanrossreviews The US version isn't Karaoke that I know of. It doesn't come with a remote or mic and the battery is larger plus 20 more watts over the D9. What's catching on around here are the "partyboxes". Glorified boombox with LEDs. The UA-cam clips of T9 I heard sounded really crisp and clean and not too bass heavy. Oddly it's not waterproof probably because the bass is ported and without a passive radiator. I'll let you know how it compares.
can you give me a link to the amazon one?
@@alanrossreviews Keeps rejecting me posting the link. Now why is that? Censorship.

can you pair two D8's with one Bluetooth device?
Yup 👌
I managed to order a SoundCore Motion Boom today, for 110€ with delivery. Still less than what they asked on Amazon US. Probably a better deal than both of these speakers.
Everytime i play the boom it sounds better, this is the next big thing, in custom of course 😊 😊
@@alanrossreviews I like your Motion+ custom EQ, I just slightly tweaked it to fit my tastes, I'll do the same with my Motion Boom ;)
this is what i always say, my settings are not magic settings, they are just what i use, you have to use it the way you like. 👍
@@alanrossreviews I think your EQ is close to perfection to my ears, the only sliders I changed on my Motion+ EQ compared to yours are a bit less of 150hz and a bit more or 8 KHz. Really minor modifications.
Anyway can't wait to get my hands on the Motion Boom. Not before at least one week of wait though...
Yes those are the main sliders that people will want to change. Upper bass and some sharpness. 😊
I wish Tribit made a larger version.
did you use it in custom mode?
Do these speakers have a built-in high pass filter? Or can they play 30Hz and below?
no they cannot play down to 30hzz as part of a track, of course you could play a single 30hz test tone, turn the speaker to max and ou will hear it but thats a totally rolled off 30hz and never would you hear it ina track. as for filters aka dsp they will limit the amount of bass but as far as i can tell do apply a total high pass filter.
Hey Alan, I was wondering if you had seen the relatively new Soundcore mini 3. The mini 3 is updated with a customizable EQ, would love to see a review
Not had a chance to look 😭
buy both and pair them together
Hello, thanks a lot for ur reviews..very usefull!!!! Here in (SPAIN) Europe there is the motion + for 80$ and motion boom 140$. U think it's worth paying that 60$ more? thanks
Deep bass vs finesse and detail, your call. The boom can really dig deep
