Hi Alan, would I be correct in assuming the tweeters are 10w each?
D9 really shines in max volume. Mainly used outdoors to 80-100% volume. Packs a punch for a small speaker with no real distortion. I agree the D8's sounds better in lower volumes but didn't buy these to play good music indoors at lower volumes, there are other speakers for that.
Just bought the D8 to blast out tunes in the warehouse, where I work. Tried it at home for the first time last night. It's brilliant! Reviews never cover rock and metal but it does it brilliantly. Really pleased with it. Got a motion+ coming tomorrow for my kitchen. Your vids helped me choose. 🙂

I have the D8 and a friend of mine just got the D9 and now I want one too. It sounds bloody fantastic even at highest volume and it is very loud! The D9 currently costs less at amazon than the D8 and sounds much better and louder. Just placed my order, but thanks to you -- I think I will pass on the firmware update. Cheers!
I would've thought that most of the D9s for sale now would've been shipped with updated firmware? I suppose it's possible some older units are still out there though.
I'm using my Status 3 IEM Ear buds so I can VERY clearly hear the difference. I bought the D8 years ago and LOVED it. I had no clue I saw the price and went for it. A few years later I got the D10. You even commented on my comment on another video of yours... the D8 is constantly leveled in sound and bass. It has way more fullness sound to it compared to the D9 and D10..
Trouble is we dont know what firmwares we are comparing. Noise floor on my original d8 was the worst i ever heard.
Definitely sounds like there's more pop in the D8. You may have saved me some money, thanks a lot.
Hey Alan,, My D9 does not need the firmware update. It's is so crisp and warm beefy bass I used the tube amp pro and the adopt a sound under 30 yrs.. Sounds ridiculously amazing 👏 . If you have a Samsung Android phone use those 2 options on the built in EQ under sound settings I keep everything flat on the mix. Low bass is nice and deep and clarity is crisp. Try it and redo your audio file test! Sounds amazing at all volumes. The Best speaker you must rerun your diagnostics with these settings. 😁👍🏻

best to not get free speakers as its easier to be open and honest that way. unless we are talking the really expensive stuff of course, then yeah send me 😋 Happy new year to you! btw my biggest problem is not the buying its the time to do the videos.
The audio balance could be corrected using an app. It’s always nice when audio companies release an app to edit speaker audio settings, but when that option is available you can find apps to directly change audio settings on your paired device. So the more bass forward approach is meh, I do like the bigger battery, and the increased power, plus I do love bass. Though I just want a speaker that will out perform my JBL flip 4 which died after 3 years, and the W King D9 at a slight discount seems worth it.

By the way, the D9 handle can be detached if the two flat rubber cap in each side is removed. There are 2 screws per side. The D8 grill can also be removed if you use nylon fishing line bent in a curve, sticking in and out through the holes of the grill. No scratches like that ;-)
hey bro, could you give me a hand, I can't find how to remove the handle, do you know of any page or video that shows how to do it? I don't want to damage the horn
@@marcosg7568 Just like I wrote, there is a flat piece of black rubber on each end of the handle. Pry it off and underneath are two hey screws per side, this is where the handle is attached.

Sweet! Thanks. I do play a pair of D9s at maximum and they sound good at the top. At 30% off it was a good deal. The distortion is bad on the D8 at max. I also removed my D9 handles because I don't need them. I'll bet that the ratio of cabinet size to woofer size isn't proportional to the D8. Drivers appear too large for the cabinet. It's also possible that they sound better as 2 independent channels, one per unit instead of shared. The combination of every factor makes them an instrument all their own, meaning that D9 is a completely different instrument than the D8. Hopefully they will keep adjusting the EQ to make it better or provide us an assortment to chose from.

Ferrite speakers and larger is a cheap alternative because the paper is cheap and ferrite is the only expense when you don't have to increase watt output to be cleaner with high-efficiency magnets. But they didn't go with ferrite mags.

for me the d8 has a better applied design and has a better performance for those who like higher sound quality ... the D9 totally escaped the proposal that the D8 brought with great success .... 2 drivers with 1 passive radiator ??? ? you can't! your videos are top ... help me a lot in my choice of speakers

Well thanks for that, since I was super happy with my D8 even if it weren't as face meltingly loud as I wanted it to be to compete with my lawn mower and being set stationary by my door with me being a maximum distance of about 200ft from it. THOUGH even on the mower, it's not amazingly loud either. It gets to "AUDIBLE" over the rumble of the motor. It's a push electric motor. WHICH is frustrating since I have a Mifa F60 and it seems equally loud and cleaner in half the size. I don't regret the purchase. Edit: but this did help me decide not to go with the D9.

you can remove the handle on the D9 by taking off the small little tape on the side where the handle connects to the speaker and use a small hex tool to take out the screws and the handle comes right off. It takes about 2 minutes. You can also set the handle on the other side, not sure why you would want to but it's an option haha.

on the d8 the tweeters look like if they had some foam behind the tweeters and most likely ferrofluid in them and for me the d8 sounded more natural.......

The D-9 has been on sale for 30 % off or $60) which makes it viable. Otherwise, get d-8 or Anker boom or motion. Honestly, you could justify owning a motion plus, and a boom box if you need more volume. $71 renewed for motion plus is tempting...m

pn7 isnt a boombox, it has a nice bright pleasant sound but you wont get thumping bass.

Thanks for this video!! What did you think as far as comparing overall sound before and after the D9 firmware update? Was it worth doing if you own a D9? Sounds like you weren't happy with the firmware update and it lost clarity to supplement more bass. I have the D9 and I'm on the fence with doing the update.
if you literally just want a boombox then update. if you want a more balanced sound then dont update, but it is still too much upper bass and not enough deep bass.

I have discovered that WKing makes a K9 that's not a dog. That stands for Karaoke "K" I can only assume. Not sure what the "D" or the "T" stand for.

in a world where soundcore motion boom exists, why would anyone buy anything else for under $100?
soundcore motion boom is still not in the UK, I own the black version of D8 and it's just amazing, got it on a discount for £68 so for price to performance It's just a killer!!! My dad owns the JBL Charge 4 he bought it for £99 and honestly, it's quieter and less mids and less bass, it just has better highs... Not worth extra 30 quid even he said it
the motion boom is special because it can do deep bass while staying very flat and you can then customise into firmware your own eq.
These can be had for $40-60 on sale. You could almost afford two d8s and play versus one anker boom. And both a bit louder, too.
But I'm sticking with Anker over w king, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate. In fact, I own q30s, and life U2 neckband, too.
But I could think of a use case where it makes sense to buy the D8 (usually $55-65 on sale or (less likely) the d9, which was $60 at launch with sale.
Anker doesn't have nearly as many sales. For instance I wouldn't buy my sister $100 boom box for Christmas. We just don't like to spend that much.
But if the d-8 is $39.99 or (more typically) $55? That's within my price range.
But for tech enthusiasts? It's worth the extra 30 bucks to be able to play with the app and get ankers sound quality.

@@alanrossreviews The US version isn't Karaoke that I know of. It doesn't come with a remote or mic and the battery is larger plus 20 more watts over the D9. What's catching on around here are the "partyboxes". Glorified boombox with LEDs. The UA-cam clips of T9 I heard sounded really crisp and clean and not too bass heavy. Oddly it's not waterproof probably because the bass is ported and without a passive radiator. I'll let you know how it compares.

I find the d8 will do well for most people I use mine as both my game speaker via a aux cable for no latency issues like Bluetooth and for my yard pool speaker and powerbank lol

Opinions are all over the map regarding the firmware update. Some have stated it made the speaker quieter, not louder. I noticed a substantial improvement in bass and a fuller sound with the firmware update on the D9. I was fairly disappointed in the D9 out of the box, especially the treble heavy, light on bass EQ2 mode. The firmware update saved the day, IMO.
certainly on mine the bass was bigger and fuller but at a cost elsewhere along the frequency range. cant say this is a keeper for me. the eq2 mode i assume is the outdoor mode and meant to simply be louder which they do achieve but reducing bass and having a more high end heavy sound but even that changed on my firmware update. wonder if this speaker has regional differences.
Guys read my comment. Its the 🔑 for deep bass and sparkle. No firmware update needed at all.
I finally pulled the trigger on a D8, I've got to say I think it sounds excellent! However the bluetooth seems to disconnect now and again, also when first turning it on each day it connects then immediately disconnects so have to connect it again, every time! Anyone else have connectivity problems with the D8? Maybe a faulty unit? Hmm.

@@AbsoluteFidelity in some tracks I liston to I prefer the upper bass thump. I love my onix for its deep bass but it has next to no upper bass thump at all. Wish it had at least some. Same goes for the D9. It's all upper bass but I do with it had at least some deep bass.
@@alexlittig7927 between both, I would choose lower bass all day anyday. Not forgetting we could bump higher bass up easily anytime but not lower bass. EQ made the motion boom a killer, a good eq like Poweramp makes the onyx GOD for its price. I bump 125hz and a wee bit of 250hz up on some tracks on the onyx and it sounds so different.

I definitely think the D8 sounded better here but I've seen more recent reviews where the D9 actually sounds pretty good and IMO superior, maybe they ironed out the odd tuning with more updates (in factory)?
no idea, id have to buy a new one to see what firmware its on. maybe they could release a speaker that didn't require firmware updates to change its sound? as in get it right before release?

For me, this result is quite dissappointing. I had hoped the frequency response was flatter and it seems like W-King did some artificial trickery that except for loudness, sacrifices sound quality. Especially dissappointing to see that while having bigger
woofers, the subbass extension (40hz) is less then on the D8. Looks like that update made it a lot of extra work to custom eq it with a third party app. Might gonna cancel that D9 order and get a 2nd Boom instead, what do u think?

@@alanrossreviews Yeah, not a good look. On some other video i heard they are planning to make 70 or 80 watt rms more bass oriented bigger speakers. Thats fine and all, but W-King might want to R&D more in actual sound quality improvement then just rinse and repeat the D8 / D9 formula. They could take note of the motion+ & Boom on that part.

Any information on the 60watt D7 in comparison?
I managed to order a SoundCore Motion Boom today, for 110€ with delivery. Still less than what they asked on Amazon US. Probably a better deal than both of these speakers.
Everytime i play the boom it sounds better, this is the next big thing, in custom of course 😊 😊

@@alanrossreviews I think your EQ is close to perfection to my ears, the only sliders I changed on my Motion+ EQ compared to yours are a bit less of 150hz and a bit more or 8 KHz. Really minor modifications.
Anyway can't wait to get my hands on the Motion Boom. Not before at least one week of wait though...
Yes those are the main sliders that people will want to change. Upper bass and some sharpness. 😊

Hey Alan, so I just received a W king D8 in the mail, I'm wondering if I got a dud, or if this is correct, so when compared to my motion boom there is no comparison, especially when using your custom EQ settings it blows the w king out of the water, low bass, aswell as mid bass....now I just compared it to my soundcore motion plus, I have the new motion plus on 37.38 firmware, and using your EQ settings, and I am shocked that I feel like I'm getting more all around bass out of the motion plus and it's half the size!! Deep bass, aswell as mid bass....I know you own both speakers, do I have a faulty unit?
The d8 is mostly upper bass. My boom does beat it for deep bass but not my motion plus. Have you tried the eq mode on the d8?
@@alanrossreviews yes I have tried the eq mode and you know what, I'm just doing some more comparisons between the 2, yea I guess the W king does have a bit more bass than the motion plus, but not by much! Also, I think I have a different version of the w king d8, mine came with an SD card slot, I'm under the impression the old ones did not....maybe they have also changed something about the sound....

I wonder if there will be a bigger difference between them if you use a line in with a external DAC that has its own DAC? Because I know Bluetooth crushes fidelity a lot too. I use the LG V series of phones which have the quad Hi-Fi DAC.
in theory yes but a lot of these speakers still apply dsp to the analogue in. and those that dont often sound worse because they NEED dsp 😭
@@alanrossreviews Sounds like I'll have to use Wavelet to fine-tune the bass curvature. Usually transient compressor will help the low frequencies roll off a little better. I listen to this video with decent quality headphones and it sounds like the d9 does get a little too muddy. Also you got some great audio recording equipment by the way :}
yeah w-king knows its crowd and the limits of the speakers. the one that surprised me was and still is the t9, very different tuning and nicely open sounding,.
@@alanrossreviews Just got mine and I ran it through the gauntlet. It is WAY better in Aux than bluetooth. With bluetooth I notice there is a hiss, a tape hiss in a way. But with Aux in, its way cleaner and seems to utilize the tweeters more too. At 100% on the unit and 50% on the phone, its pretty well rounded, enough to shake the pop cans 5 feet away off my desk and I have an Ikea countertop-like desk haha.

cant u just alter EQ via the phone anyway so why does it matter ?
@@girlsdrinkfeck Using phone EQ reduce the volume, quite useless. If you buy a D8 / D9, it's for sheer volume

2 speakers I noticed like goin loud and fit for outdoors, the Neocore Wave A4 and the D9. Which one would you recommend for outdoors Alan?
