Im so glad I got one in AU a few years ago after got 2x SL1200MK2. Since I had this mixer I never doubt my self to get a new one at all, it's something about the simplistic of this mixer to be admire. I just realize the optical fader u mentioned that a plus for me a part from extra Fader in the back compartment... I love this mixer and this video will make me admire mine even more Cheers man

A solid mixer undoubtably . No digital controlling allowed !!! @6:10 - DUDE THAT'S WHAT THE 'FLASHFORMER' WAS .. A GLORIFIED LINE SWITCH FOR TRANSFORMING.
Really dope video. you broke everything down so clearly. I used to have the original version and honestly, despite the crossfader always being replaced, it was my fave mixer i've ever used.
very dope, I didn't know that the ex came with an optical fader! the black standard version was my 2nd mixer... big up dopez & swiftstyle! the classic click sound of the switches maaan I like that in some way lol...
i had one back in the day, black one... so smooth and really dope EQs that are only 2 band but powerful and sweep (thats what you are talking about the wah effect). Great mixer even now IMO.
Aiight...your Invizible Scratch Picklez technics are spot on.... Reminds me of the Vestax butter fader. Looks like good investment. I am old school all day. Have not bothered to get any of the digital controller mixers yet.
those are pretty sharp mixers / faders even by todays standards. i kept going for vestax 06's / ecclers all the time but i should have got one of those
Yes Dopez! Great video. You definitely can't overlook the importance of these mixers in relation to the DMC battles. All their features and quirks, pros and cons are intrinsically linked to all those routines from what most would consider the golden years of DJ battles. It was the peak of that whole ethos of doing as much as you could with the limited tools you had, which only makes the tools used all the more important. When you hear those oddly resonant EQs in action or even those upfader cuts, it's just 'that sound', it takes you back there right away. It's just as relevant to that era as say old Akai and E-MU samplers are to classic golden era sampled hip hop, etc.
i had PURCHASED the SH DJ1200 back in the early 2000's i was so stoked that day the worst part of it was i burned through both crossfaders in less than a month .... i always wanted the ex model... side note the dx model had the hamster switch a well but the same contact faders … the EX was the mixer that i always wanted to get my hands on with the advent of optical faders...
When you demoed the EQ, I immediately thought of Kentaro. And I looked it up, and it looks like Kentaro used the SH-1200. Later on in the video you're even mentioning him. Crazy how such a little thing can make the sound of a turntablist so recognizable.
I bought one on ebay in really good condition to go with my first pair of 1200's since i wanted to get serious with scratching. But after seeing how beautiful it is, i think im just gonna display it lmao. great review
Great video first off, good review and quality I see alot of these paired with full sets selling on ebay from japan. Optical fader thats brilliant. I had the black dmc one and thought wow super cool a second fader!! then 6 months later if your lucky you realize ah touche technics, you built this and knew without a doubt it would fail how did i miss the context clues... I wonder with this fader knob feels like though, the black one was almost ceramic in feel and was better than any other one by far. If you find them they fit most mixers, I just got a traktor z2 and wish i had the tech knobs. Using my 07 pro ones for now since the orginals are too fat and clumsy.
I have a black version of this EX which I didnt know it was any different to the original 1200 mixer until you said although it doesn't have the large EX like yours but just in the smaller model number across the top. I'm in the UK and mine is 230v. Iv always wondered if I should get a new x fader as it's still as good as new since 2005. I must admit I try but nowhere near your level but at least I know now it's just me and not the mixer lol. I have a urie mixer too but the sound out of the technics is just so nice and warm compared to other more complex mixers. Just thought I'd let you know that if any of your switches become loose I have fixed these myself. They require a tiny 0.7mm or 0.9mm (best buy both) hexagon wrench to tighten up the grub screw at the bottom of the switch.
Question on the step down converter. I have a TECHNICS SH-EX1200 and 2 TECHNICS SL-1200MK3D i bought from japan. Is there a stepdown converter that has 3 outlets that is reliable?
I hate the original mixer for it's crossfader. But I equally love & adore the loyalty of the Japanese DJs of yesteryears for sticking with these through most of their key DMC battles ✊🏾
Just orderd mines off ebay too also the step converter. Although im not so sure how i am suppose to plug in and set the step converter?, do i plug the mixer into the 100v section and on the back do i switch it to 100v as well? Please holla back. Much luv bro peace✌
These are better sounding than the vestax PMC 05....it wasn't till I hooked up one on my set up recently I didn't realise how bad the vestax sounded...I owned one for about 5 years. The original Technics mixer was my first mixer but as covered at the begining of this vid the crossfader was flippin rubbish!
Make more review videos of old DJ equipment like this!
I bought this mixer a while ago. Japan has so many of these mixers that are pretty much brand new and being sold cheap on eBay.
I've always wondered about these mixers. way better than expected!
I watched Dopez long enough to know that when he says "we'll load up a beat and see what we got", we're gonna get fire
Ha! The 90s commercial parody intro was accurate

Fire cuts, super nice looking set up too!
Nice, thats a nice mixer, those scratches, & cutts sound dope. Its great to see Technics again, looks great.... Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love....🔥💯👍🙏🎶🌎
Dope review bro! And the cutz!!! 👑👑👑
Got my Black ShEx since 2006. Love it for sampling. It warms up sound a lot!
woah thank you EPROM !! it is a fantastic mixer for sampling, I should have mentioned that !
Your scratching + the beat together is dope! It's AMSR to my ears & nice review.
Such a sick video, Keep up the vids!
Keep it up with the dope videos 🙌🏽
Love mine! Glad I was able to score a us version here in vegas. Thanks for the info!
Your cuts are absolutely fire man. 👍🏾👍🏾
Awesome!
the wah effect is so dope
very dope, I didn't know that the ex came with an optical fader! the black standard version was my 2nd mixer... big up dopez & swiftstyle! the classic click sound of the switches maaan I like that in some way lol...
Little demonstration... destroyed everything with those scratches, super skills!
"that just makes this mixer a JOY to scratch on" really got that Martha Stewart vibe there haha. Sick review @dopez1200!
A real legendary mixer!
Love it! You are so entertaining and amazingly talented. Keep it up! Have a good day!😍🥰

Awesome mixer. 👌
Dope cuts bro !!
Nice cut. Thinking of copping one of this mixer.
Dope as alwayz.
Dude, that (2:05-2:36) was some of the maddest cuts I ever heard.
Sick!!!
Nice overview. Sharp cuts!
Reminds me of a Vestax PMC-06 i had in the 90ies.
Was arguably more versatile across genres b/c adjustable crossfade curve.
Aiight...your Invizible Scratch Picklez technics are spot on....

The only thing that doesn't sound like it's from 20 years ago are those vicious cuts... you would've melted faces with those skills back then ;)
Thank you Rockwell ! Now I know how Klever was able to do those stabs so well back in the day hahahahaha
@@DOPEZ1200 Ah, now you're getting me all nostalgic!
Great video!
My 1st mixer
very informative!

Yeah he used it on 2001 and 2002 rounties
...and he does the line in trick in 2002

Dude Your scratches are the shit!
Well well well, look at Mr "I can cut equally well hamster AND regular"!
Nah but seriously, really good stuff, and you're great on camera!
His omni deck demo blows my mind where he not only cuts hamster and regular, but also does the same with both hands. Disgusting.
FIRE ASS CUTS! And now I want that mixer. fuck
nice scratchn bro
Sweet thanks

Question on the step down converter. I have a TECHNICS SH-EX1200 and 2 TECHNICS SL-1200MK3D i bought from japan. Is there a stepdown converter that has 3 outlets that is reliable?
I had the original. Too bad this was not the one that originally came out.
Can you tell me if you're set up with this mixer has full Stereo Sound... or that it reduces everything to almost mono sound?
Are these mixers fine for standard mixing or are they better suited to strictly scratching ?
So what does the aux in do? I’m tryna find out how to make my microphone echo when I speak into it
Haha I had the original back in the day. After a week or so of brand new the fader cut in was static and I was pissed lol I jumped to vestax after
That into tho 😂 👍🏾
They are filter eqs on these mixers like the Allen and heath mixers....not many people make mixers like that.
hi why your ex1200's fader looks like smooth.
What systems do you have on your technics?
Crispy...
Also with built-in radio?
Dopez what vinyl is that of beats?
I hate the original mixer for it's crossfader.

Yes only thing is that you set the back of the converter to 120v since that’s what you’re running into it
Nice! Break out the Gemini and DMC mixers next 😆
Don't forget Pyramid!
Are those mk5s?!
luv it!
100v just get an avr.
What is name white vinyl sampler?
Glad you mentioned dj noize, he was absolutely disgusting on those upfaders.
I have the original technics black mixer
anyone knows what is the record on the right deck?
Black Market Snuff Breaks by D-Styles
