Kate has the potential to star in a remake show of I Love Lucy in the same setting! Her face is so much like her! Such a fun video
Thank you for having Lucille and her daughter invited to your kitchen. I hope that Lucy would make a cookbook about her grandmother combine with the story tale about Dede because nobody knows about her and she was the force What makes Lucy, her mom to become the famous. I love Lucy character. Miss Maddie.
Dede was not much part of Lucille Ball's life for years - from the time her father died, when when was age 4, till she was age 11, her mother remarried and was out of the lives of her daughter and brother, Fred. By the time Lucille was 15 she went into NYC to have a modeling career to support herself and send back $$ to her family. Then when she went to Hollywood and making some $$ she either bought or rented a house and sent for her family - her mother, her MGF, her brother and her cousin Cleo - supporting them all.
Actually in Home Movies one of her childhood friends was talking about LucilleBall losing her father before age 4 and, in effect, being abandoned by her mother till she was aged 11 - Dede married a man who did not like children and did not want to be a part of their lives and rebuffed them early on. When the mother made a comment about leaving Ed cause he didn't like children - it took several years for that to happen - she left her children, Fred with her parents and or father and Lucille with Ed's parents and they were really awful. I'd say Dede had absolutely nothing to do with Lucy's life - seemed pretty self-serving to me. Yet, Lucille Ball never complained and supported her mother from the time she came out to Hollywood to her death. I think both Desi and Lucy had pretty crappy mothers.
While Lucille Ball had a loving father -who unfortunately died before she was aged 4; Desi father was a very self serving person - who divorced his wife when she came out to Miami and remarried someone else - and left Desi to be her caretaker - she lived o be over 100 - and died shortly after Desi. Any documentary commented that Desi's father was competitive and did not appreciate Desi's status. YUCK I feel badly for both Desi and Lucy for the crappy parenting they had - except for Lucy's father who died when she was not yet four.

It helps here in Hollywood to be the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. What so many people today don’t know is how so much the way TV is filmed is because of the I Love Lucy show. Filming with three cameras was her Dad Desi’s idea. Desi and Lucy owned and operated their own studio which was very unusual for actors in those days. Desi ran the studio until the divorce and Lucy often called Desi once taking over to learn how to do it. The were a true power couple.

This is called a boiled icing, our grand - mothers and mothers used a double boiler to make. It looks like two - kettles stacked into one another. Water fills half of the bottom kettle, bring the water to a boil prior to inserting the top kettle. Have all the ingredients measured prior to starting. When it starts boil, you can use a non - electric hand mix. Beat 2 - minutes or so, if it does not allow you to mix, it is already to a strand stage. Follow the rest of the instructions, from this site. Everything else looks like our vintage recipes. Hope this helps?! This should be awesome cake!

The marshmallow frosting has to be beaten in a double boiler that is above boiling water on the stove top while simultaneously using the hand beater to create what are called "stiff peaks." This is also known as 7-minute frosting. I think that the baker misinterpreted the recipe card. It does not say to put it on top of boiling water on the stove top burner.

I love Kate's reaction to what may have been her first experience with alcohol. Folks, that stuff is toxic poison that burns on the way down. There's a reason for why people hate it on the first sip - it really is bad for you and will knock years off your life, just like smoking cigarettes.

I've never heard of water in 7-minute frosting. The water, I believe, is for the double boiler... some recipes have cream of tartar in it.
