All charisma does is give a bonus to it and bartering, but you don’t need it at all to have a high speech, and ironically you don’t need it to be charismatic in this game. Also, I think it may help your companions health/damage, but other than that it’s kind off useless so I can see why people don’t invest in it.

    There's also the fact Bethesdas intros have been 30 minutes to an hour of forced slow story since Oblivion, while Obsidian left all that in a convienently skippable cutscene before the game begins. Then they made the actual gameplay intro just a stat setup like it should be. But once Bethesda got Fallout back they went right back to their shit.

      You can save right before you leave the vault so you don't have to re-do that part, which is probably why they didn't put much work into the vault-tech guy. Then you get out and you can actually do whatever the fuck you want and completely ignore Preston and co., if you want. So I don't know what you're talking about.

    • @GrandmaStew
      @GrandmaStew 7 років тому +59

      kiz oku Sorry for the late reply. But you'd still have to go through it once on every game they released in the past decade. Not just this game. Plus, if you decide to play whichever game again on a different system, then you have to do it yet again. There's just no reason to draw it out for so long. I'd rather have short and quality intros than long and tedious. Also, saying "you can just save it before you leave" doesn't excuse it. Its a possible solution, but you shouldn't even have to worry about making a solution like that. At least without it being skippable in some way. Just a quick start feature.

      No, you couldn't.
      If you want to finish the game's story, you're going to have to meet them and help eventually.
      Meanwhile, in new vegas, you can finish the game without even once talking to anybody besides doc mitch in goodsprings, and none of the characters are invincible.
      You could kill every faction leader before finishing any of the quests they give you, and ultimately don't need to give any consideration to anything they say.
      The fact that I can't just shoot Garvey, get his cool hat, and walk off to wherever I want next already makes F4 inferior to NV.

      Mr house, you do have to talk to first, but could kill immediately after if you had the science to get into his life support room.
      Same thing with Caesar, you talk to him first, but could just kill him immediately after.
      There is nothing keeping you from killing anyone in the game is what I'm saying.
      Even if you kill all other faction leaders before meeting Yes Man, the game doesn't make Yes Man invincible even though he is the only option left.
      Contrast that with F4, where almost every NPC is invincible until the story decides "yeah okay, you can kill them now."
      That is why F4 is garbage compared to New Vegas.

    • @coldeed
      @coldeed 7 років тому +81

      @logical
      It's more about the actual effort put into the map than the landscape itself.
      Fallout 3 had tons more put in its desert to make it more rich to explore. New vegas has more mountains of little importance surrounded by generic wildlife to hunt. If you like rpgs than you should realize why "Dungeons" is part of the title in D&D, and see how the lack of them in NV, as well as lack of interest and detail in locations in NV compares to the overworld of 3. Crying about "7 years compared to 18 months" does not somehow make up the boring world of NV without mods.
      I like both games, and need to mod in things to make them more enjoyable, but typically I find myself much less looking for content additions to 3 than NV, and much less looking for gameplay tweaks in NV than 3. Still, I add in some quests to 3 and tweaking the mechanics of NV's certain features like the faction system, but both need difficulty, visual, and control mods to make them harder, prettier, and more playable.
      Still, I wish people would learn how the weapons intended spread and ranges in 3 work before crying about how inaccurate the assault rifles are. Shit, get a sniper or lincoln's repeater if you want the gun to always fire center screen.

    Some people seem to misinterpret what this video's intent seems to be. It is not an in depth analysis that seeks to definitively prove that FNV is a superior game (even though it is). It's only five minutes after all. It just serves as an example of how much FVN cared about and recognized choices that you made within the game's world, whereas Fallout 4 removed so much of the impact and consequence.

      Yeah, it made total sense why my character that was a pacifist had to chase down Benny for revenge.
      When the motive is forced and I don't have a real choice in what I'm doing based on presentation of the main story quest, the story is poorly written. Rpgs need a decent writer that gives a fair vagueness when it's a created character and not a pre existing one. Something that even fallout 3 did better, considering rather than forcing me to be a courier the rest of the game it just forced me to be 16 and leave a vault. Aside from the age thing, leaving the vault is much more a blank slate than being a mojave courier considering NV is presented as you WERE AND ARE a courier as opposed to you PREVIOUSLY BEING A VAULT DWELLER.
      One story allowed me to change, the other shoved a DLC up my cockhole that was reminding me 24/7 I belong to vegas as a courier, something even alternate start can't fix. But it's more so funny to me how this wasn't an issue til 4 came out, when it was already something NV struggled with.

    That's weird how people say that Bethesda should be praised for keeping the series alive. It's like somebody dug the corpse of your dead grandmother and turned it into a walking corpse. Yes, she kind of looks like her. Kind of. But the soul is gone. You still fondly remember her bedstories and pastry and you really miss them, but you understand that this cadaver is not her. You try to tell the person who did this to put an end to this abomination, but then some kids start arguing with you that this creature is much better than your grandma because it tells awesome dirty stories and can do a back flip.

    Thing is, if you look at, say, Oblivion, you'll see this isn't a problem with Bethesda as such. In Oblivion, the douchebag elf in the cell across from you had different dialogue depending on your character's race and gender, even including custom races since they knew people would mod them in. This isn't a "bethesda as a company doesn't care about player choices" problem. This is a "bethesda is trying to copy the EA (Dragonage/Mass Effect) RPG model instead of realizing the strengths of their flexible model and building on them" problem.

      I wonder what happened to Fallout 4. Totally in love with Oblivion and Fallout 3, in fact, F3 was the first fallout game I was Introduced to. Fallout 3 had an immense feeling of adventure and discovery.
      There is no denying that Bethesda is able to rework and commercialise fallout to the newer generation of gamers.
      Then I started playing new vegas, Fallout 1 and 2, and oh my I really look forward to fallout 4.
      While Fallout 4 is not a bad game, hell no, they simply lost their touch at lore and world building. The game engine has improved immensely, the shooting mechanic is awesome and the nicer graphic is very well appreciated, but to be honest, I wouldn't trade immersion/role-playing with them. Its an awesome game, but its still not fallout. Compliments to them that they are trying to venture into unknow territories and improve where they can.

      I honestly do think they're trying to copy EA. I haven't played 4 yet but what I've seen of it looks VERY DragonAge/Mass Effect, from railroaded storyline, decreased/very shallow RP (multiple "options" which are all actually the same option beneath the actual words spoken), to elements of the UI and aesthetics.

      Just about the most interesting location in f4 is Far Harbor, a DLC that shined above the main game in terms of story and atmosphere, and then further highlighted the disappointment of the other DLC's. All 4 of the NV dlc's are held in high regard, but rather than trying to emulate that the F4 team decided to cop out with a bunch of settlement building expansions.
      Fallout 4's focal point of the map is Diamond city, a stadium turned city that, when I first heard of it, I thought would be much more dense. Instead it was roughly the size of fucking Goodsprings and, while it was interesting it wasn't exactly dynamic aside from a synth mayor that'll end up dead and a couple of new guards from the faction you align with.
      New Vegas has, funnily enough, postwar Vegas, an area already preceded by its famous reputation that has a fun apocalyptic twist and, in its entirety, holds things like a pre-war ceo controlling its robotic guards through a super-computer and a group of secretive cannibalistic high rollers who wear creepy masks.

      Little things like that build immersion, make the game better, and takes minutes to put into the game. I mean, it’s not like they’re giving the characters custom facial movements. Every character in the game runs on an engine that just mimicks the same facial movements according to the words they speak. Therefor, all they had to do was slap in that extra bit of dialogue just to give the game a bit of personality and that’s it, they’re engine would take care of the rest. But nope, couldn’t even be bothered to do that.

    While we're at it: I'm hoping they bring the previous dialogue system back.
    I don't have a problem with my character speaking, but I want more than four options and I want more detailed prompts than:
    "Sarcasm", "Truth", "Lie" and "Change Subject", etc.
    CD Projekt Red's Witcher 3 dialogue options did a good job of this; there was range, diversity, the prompt wouldn't spoil everything you're about to say but it gave a clear indication of where you were headed.
    And the fact that they were committed to having a cutscene and people moving or standing around naturally in different positions and such rather than just standing upright, looking at each other, camera cutting back and fourth really lent to the conversation.
    Also I made my character INT 2, Next time, I want them to sound like INT 2.
    I also deeply appreciated how Fallout New Vegas went the extra mile to be realistically discriminatory to me, The Legion being sexist to my character was a great experience, even though it's weird how they still let me join despite that... It also made killing them more fun.
    Because it made both male and female playthroughs different from each other, like how Skyrim made it slightly different if you were a Khajiit than if you were a Nord, because people would at least call you "Cat". Although that could've been better, Windhelm's whole dark elf thing could've been better, as in: They could have prevented you from buying from some shops or racially abused you more.
    Also; Obsidian is twisted in the best way: I fucked a robot, as well as the man who shot me so I could asphyxiate him with my legs, and I tried to do the same to my own disembodied brain, I have an adoptive Nightkin grandmother killing people with a part of a plane engine, I got to Join the fucking Enclave, I deliberately nuked the world, again, I got an array of cyborg implants, I ran drug deliveries to a more badass and actually intimidating version of raiders, I also did jobs for a gang of Elvis impersonators, The horrifying creatures of the wasteland were always extremely likely to kill me, which I loved, and in general: it was just a really colourful, vivid experience that felt like a post-apocalyptic wasteland except not as dead.
    I thought I'd be bored shitless from a lack of things to do; looking out at that colossal desert, and I was so wrong.
    Meanwhile, I saw snowy Boston mountains that I couldn't even climb because of an invisible wall, but that being said: the glowing sea was awesome, I hope to see more radioactive hellholes with green lightning, heavily mutated creatures and fantastical apocalyptic terrain.
    One problem I felt though: The Boston city and Capital city feel very identical in layout, I liked the imagination put into places like Megaton, Necropolis, The Pitt, Point Lookout and such in Fallout 3, there could've been more of that, I have no complaints about the crafting system but it would've been sweet to make another Megaton, or to make a wall out of dead people. But I did like the idea behind Libertalia, although I hated navigating it, I also liked the Norwegian ghoul raiders there.

I ended up loving almost every aspect of what I saw in Fallout NV and was super hyped to play Fallout 4 as my introduction into the Fallout world. Tbh tho I was pretty damn uninterested, the story was not interesting until the end for me at all. I also honestly found a lot of the factions to be super boring. I ended up trying to get closer to them in any possible way to see if they would become anymore interesting but to be honest it just never hit. It felt like I was doing hours of quests for a faction and being just as uninterested as before. I got the end and when I had to make the decision I just kinda uninstalled because I had no ties to any of the side. Sorry for the long post just wanted someone who was somewhat new to the series to give there perspective on the game. Ty

      I think one rather big problem regarding F4's factions is the lack of rank-up reward. They all hand you these fancy titles, but none of them ever have any usable means to make them feel like they have any worth. Compare this to FNV, where the NCR gives you a supply drop/reinforcements radio then later a safehouse filled with rare stuff, the Legion gives you access to a regularly respawning supply cache and a safehouse filled with rare loot (including the ultra-rare, bitchingly cool Centurian armor which sadly causes most of the map to be hostile the moment you put it on), and both House and Yes Man introduce you to several minor factions that can potentially all provide you with special rewards to commemorate your efforts.
      Now compare this to F4, where the BoS' big reward for becoming Sentinel is a fucking paint job, the Institute's reward for becoming director is the ability to BUY very underwhelming synth relay grenades, the Minutemen make you work your ass off and spend fucktons of resources to build artillery with unreliable range that take forever to fire and have mediocre damage output (not to mention stupidly low throwing range that completely undermines the point of long ranged artillery...), and the Railroad debatably provides the only notably reward in the form of Ballistic Weave (er...the ability to apply it at least).
      F4 gives you a gold star sticker and a pat on the back for your efforts. FNV gives you tons of guns, ammo, money, and power for your efforts...all usually for free depending on your faction reputation rank.
