I went to Silverstone for the first time back in 1995 to have a look at F1 . I was totally blown away by the cars and followed F1 with a passion until the V10 era finished in 2005 . V8 came along in 2006 and I new then for me this was the end of my passion for F1 with the loss of those fantastic V10 sounding engines. I saw the hybrid cars last year at Silverstone and went home early! I can still smell the race fuel and hear that booming screaming sound in my mind.

Why from 2000 On? The ilmor Merc v10 was very similar sounding from 1997, up till 2003ish.... with wack evolution, the max revs got higher So lost some of that lively deep bass sound and became more screamy

God I miss those days. At Albert park 9am Saturday morning watching the final test before qualifying in the afternoon. A crisp morning watching the v10’s scream past as they change up gears, just mesmerised with every car that goes past. Look at the way they had to fight the steering back then, just raw noise and awesomeness.😍 Now 😩

The engine tone changes drastically at high rpms also you don't hear much of low pitch bc of the TV cam sound gather ability and positioning. Best way to hear full range(but external) is to watch engine test from garages
It's funny to think that all these cars are now slower than the ones we have today. Just a bad framerate and the sounds of high-revving engines make them look and sound much faster than they are

From the inside TV cockpit I can agree. For me the outside of the 2001 McLaren MP4-16 is the best sounding F1 V10.
