Ok hear me out here F1’s goal has always been to provide the best racing possible. I think the v8s provided this best racing. In the 8 seasons where they were mandatory, only 2 years had a driver that was clearly running away with the championship (11,13). In terms of sound, of course the V10s were superior to the v8.
5:34 An interesting thing to point out how Alesi is holding the steering wheel very high up on the corners, more like sort of holding a round wheel and not an F1 style race wheel because he came through and raced a large part of his career racing in an era where steering wheels were still round before they started cutting them down to what we see today
Not really, even with round steering wheels most drivers had the normal and optimal "9 and 3" hand position. My guess is it's just something he's always done
Man the old hockenheim was fast! The cars were full throttle for large parts of the track. I really hope they bring these old beautiful sounding engines back
Its probably impossible, F1 is only evolving, and they dont want to bring back a thing from decades ago, they always want something new, as for old Hockenheim, since the world is in kind of a ambiental crisis, destroying all of these trees just to get a racetrack back will cause serious debates, and both F1 and Hockenheim want to avoid that
@@zikalokof1challenge414 what about all the emissions from transportation and other factors outside of the race track? Don't they cause far far far more emissions? Modern F1 is so full of hypocricy it's crazy
@@R9naldo Yeah and you think killing a ton of trees in an era of intense activism with all of those other emissions would do any good for them? They would get even more trashed than they are today because of their hipocrisy

thats because they are - in race pace. its not the lap records i care about - its the RACE pace. They run now 5-6 seconds off their quali pace, Cruising around to make tyres last, its Pathetic, even fuel adjusted its bad. in V10 era they were flat out, every lap, because the tyres allowed them to push limits and not overheat or wear out quickly. As a result drivers would push edges of the lap, make mistakes, cars were constantly sliding and twitching - so much more dramatic to watch than today.
harder to handle because they had a lot more horsepower and brutal accellerations, it took f1 14 years to break a record done in 2004. it speaks for its self. hamilton is a great driver, but i dont believe hes in the same dimension as montoya kimi fernando kimi schumi or hakkinen
I want to emphasise the fact that V10 cars are running *qualifying laps' pace* during the RACE!!! I even remember in Monaco '04 when MSC sets the fastest lap of the race that even beats his own qualifying time!! Today... 5-6 seconds off the qualifying pace. While they can do like 1:19@Monza, they can't do that during the race itself, much like 1:25-1:28.
It sucks, because when I watch this I start feeling like I don't even want to watch F1 anymore because of how much excitement has been lost. I really took that era for granted when I was younger.
what they did with the old Hockenheim ending the part of the forest was a crime .... was one of the most beautiful circuits of the F-1 calendar ... now we see this shit today
Ahh… The sweet sound of a gone but not forgotten tune of a F1 V10 engine being pushed up to between 17,000 to 19,500 rpm. This will always be the proper F1 sound in my heart…
The lap records which aren't still from the early 2000's era are only because the track is new like Baku, or the track design/layout has changed like Silverstone or circuit de catalunia (Spain)

For all those who want V10s back: this will hardly happen. The sound is the best, but the V6 hybrids (engines F1 uses nowadays, correct me if i'm wrong) are the most reliable
They definitely are not. With all the electric systems attatched to them they are less reliable and they fail more often. Maybe the V6 without the electric bullshit is more reliable, but not like it is now. For example Max Verstappen. He retired because of a electric issue. Had there been No electrics he could have finished the race. This happened alot in the recent years. Like me dad once told me, “If something is not on a car it cant break”
The V10 only had to last for 1 race, they could extract as much out of it as possible. The V6 hybrid needs to last for 7 race weekends, so besides performance durability is now also important. If the V10 had to last for 7 race weekends, it would certainly not rev as high to reduce wear.

Being back v10's! that sound IS Formula 1
Question for the experts here: What are the 2 tones in the sound? Exhaust/engine and gearbox?
Well I'm not an expert, but I can tell you that the 2 tones came from the exhaust / engine only (the lower tone is due to the high RPM the engine reaches)
I think the higher pitched tone is from the exhaust, while the lower pitched tone is from the engine vibration, but I am no expert. 🤔
