I experienced the 03 season as a roadie.. I was at finals... forget scores ..spin cycle should have won.. phantom was the crowd pleaser with harmonic journey.. I heard the shows many nights that summer.. cavs altos were beast that year .. and yeah in my opinion electronics is something ya gotta tread lightly with.. voice narration or singing should be judged honestly for the cheesy effect it is so it will stop being over done.. the shows after early 2000s just really got outta hand trying to outdo each other technically
@Micah Lall-Trail no dummy half time march, meaning a slow march. I'm in marching band and a slow march is called half time not the same as a football game Halftime
Just excitement lol I did this during finals too without even realizing until after the show I was like "damn I probably might of ovveracted that horns down a bit" lol
Goes to show its not necessarily the horns that created the iconic classic sound of old Bugle lines, but the writing and the players are what created that sound.
@@TheRailwayDrone I didn’t imply they were bad, did I? They (high brass) were out of tune, and the only reason they won was politics and the fact they unveiled the Bb horn that year. Can’t have G’s beating the Bb in 2000. Prior to 2000, Cadets hadn’t won an Ott trophy since 87, they were 3rd in 99, and I believe 3rd in 01, so 2000 things click and they got the crowd favorite show and all of sudden the brass is better? Please. Are we done yet?
@@johnolson5538 I've been done with you a long time ago. You're sitting here jealous and bitter, but the fact is, we won the ott because we deserved it so there's no point debating some jealous online troll. Bye!
This is a finals Performance... I dont care if you start thin or a bit bigger....We all became fit by finals in any corps. you practice 8am-9pm everyday.
Easily the least-deserved Cadets victory of all time. Huge visual tears at the end, and horrible intonation and over-blowing for the last 2 minutes. I was in the stands, and the brass really did sound as bad as this video makes it seem.
What you guys need to understand about this year is that this is the first season Cadets had a full line of Bb. I was marching that season in another finalist corps. It seemed Gino and the Cadets had only one goal in 2000: to prove that Bb brass was as loud as G. This was a time of great upheaval in DCI as the top corps finally secured permission to take their brass lines to Bb. Gino and the Cadets proved that Bb could be as loud as G, but at the expense of intonation and precision. The first season BD had Bb instruments was the first time I ever heard BD play out of tune as well. I really think it was the G to Bb adjustment that caused this lack of clarity for these teams.
Absolutely FALSE. I was in the hornline that year and that was NOT our goal. Gino's goal was primarily to teach great brass sound, discipline as well to show the value of Bbs. Our finals performance was just not the best night. Simple as that.
Seeing this live was even better than on tape. Truly one of the rare shows where all of the parts click just right.
A Jim Ott hornline being drowned out by a bonkers crowd. The best shit I've ever been apart of.
That last minute makes weep with joy every time.
I look at a lot of drum corps in the past and I feel like they were way more impressive than todays...the formations, audience approval and all.
+Percussion Freak I don't like the addition of the electronic instruments and mixing board. I prefer raw talent!

@pearlsnaredrummer77 this wasn't bugles - Cadets marched Bb
Agreed
The crowd is cheering so loud you can’t even hear the hornline anymore. That’s how you know a show is good.
The low brass over blew a little. The mellos were CRAZY good as usual............:)
Best two minutes in the history of the activity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember seeing them wipe in the end at one of their performances that year.
@Stimulator7 Yep, I was a in Tampa Bay Thunder.
Mason Kirby High Risk, High Reward
I love Reflections of Earth so much!!!
Best. Closer. Ever.
The crowd is screamed so damn loud at the end
Best use of a half time march EVER

Lol that one trumpet goes a bit too hard on the horns down @ 1:58
And then he taught Cadets in 2011 lol...

Lol yeah Jared you were funny. It was a great show to be apart of though..wouldn't trade it for anything.
@@joshnayman3999 Yeah I think our first show with you guys was in Bloomington, IN, and then we didn't see you for the rest of the season.
That’s adrenaline for ya
At 1:58 how that guy rips his horn down early made me loose my shit 😂
Old school intensity.. Lol this is classic cadets.. Somebody needs to upload the full show..
@@neal0071234ableWill be working on that sometime next year 👍
1:30 is a whole vibe.
….sigh…it was such a different and uniting atmosphere then..
Sounded more like an old G bugle line than Bb. Loved it!!!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT CONTRA FLIP
How did this win high brass?
EASILY.
@@TheRailwayDrone please. So out of tune.

How come there are no over weight corp members? discriminate against that or do they lose all that wait in the season?
RDC Tarantula because they want the best and overweight is not the best, it’s the worst
I lost 30 pounds my first season as a corps member.

Joe M. well... it was just a tie anyway.. with a relatively low score of 97.65. The corps as a whole that year just weren't scoring too highly
+Joe M. You're exaggerating. That show was one of the best Cadets shows ever. Swallow those sour grapes.
