Thinking you have to own a home to build wealth...complete rubbish!! If you save the money that you have to spend when owning a home like property taxes, lawn service, maintenance, etc etc etc. I live in a beautiful apartment with a great pool and lovely grounds, when I need something repaired or replaced the maintenance man is at my door! This year I got a new microwave, dishwasher, and a/c unit!! I save the money that I would have to spend to maintain a house, $1,000 per month in an indexed fund and I should have nearly $100,000 save in 10 years!! No headaches, no hassles!!! Oh, and I have no car payment, I bought a used car paid it off in two years and said goodbye to high interest car loans lasting 5 years!!!!
@@luciagonzalez4899 mmm not really. You can be 60 years old and finish paying off your mortgage, while you can be 70 years old and still paying rent. Also when you finish off paying a mortgage you already have equity and the freedom to sell or downsize if you wish, let alone keeping some cash for savings. My cousin is 63 y.o., he just finished paying off his house last year. He had purchased his home in his early 30’s for $220K. Now he has it for sale for $700K and once he does, he’s moving to a small condo in another smaller city. He probably will pocket over $350K to $400K and will purchase his condo cash. So there you have it.

I am 68 and live in Southern California. for 13 years when I was married, I owned a house and was broke. I left the marriage and raised our twin daughters on my own. Owning may not be the American dream. In the end, the home was a money pit. Renting these past 21 years has allowed me to save and invest to the point where my retirement is secured. There are brief times when home ownership makes sense but most of the time you are overpaying with the belief that there will always be someone to pay more for the house than you did. Thanks a lot for your generosity of teaching and sharing so much with us.
Agustin, de este video me quedo con la frase: "NORMAL BEHAVIOURS DO NOT BRING ANY EXTRA ENJOYMENT," e incluso al final son muy caros... Gracias amigo!!
I did not leave when the list was completed but continued to listen to the end. 🙂 Great list. Agree with everything you mention. I have fallen prey to many of these traps but am finally seeing them for what they are. Now my question is what does finding contentment from within look like to you?
Very astute young man. I agree with everything said. I try my best to follow rules like this but life can hit you in the gut and force you into debt at times. Get through it and try to save money for instances you don't expect: cars, medical, ect.
How do you deal with having friends who like spending a lot of money when hanging out? Wanting to hang out but not spend money on things I don't care about or that don't bring me happiness just because they want to without driving people away. Because the truth is, very few people understand.
Maybe invite them to your house for dinner, backyard bbq and while everybody's there for dinner say okay who's doing dinner next week? Or everybody chip in and bring a dish that type of thing.
You could just be honest with your friends as well and let them know that you don't have extra money to spend right now because you have it budgeted for something else.
maybe understand that it's within you - try to fight that unhealthy "desire to please" first and understand where it comes from - also, when you start to feel awkward or strange not spending instead of focusing on how you feel focus on how the other person feels: be a nice shopping partner: why don't you try the other size/color?, let me see your new xx, not very hungry today but what did you order, what do you like of its taste? - know that consumption is because they want that validation and they crave for the feeling of importance money gives them ..so just provide that validation cause is free to give. HOwever, truly rich people are not the ones that spend on things but the ones that already have so much money that they seek fulfillment in other things like philosophy, art, intellectual development so if you have the advantage of being in a high class environment those are the friends you should be looking to make instead of meeting the 'overspenders' ..just my 2cents :)
Learning to live within my means. Life slowed down, i don't eat out much anymore. I go to Starbucks twice a month only not everyday anymore. I don't treat others as often as i used too. Learning to apply managing my cash, my time and learning to control self in many areas of ky life... liking staying home. Not doing much of social media but reading a lot and intentionally learning to develop good habits. So far so good. No more credit card debts, no new debts. 2025 ill be totally debt free God willing.

I live in California, I’ve been living a minimalist budget for years, I’m on a single income making 50k. My house will be paid off in 4ys. A woman i know has a combined income with her husband & 2 full time working children at home makes $250k combined. They live paycheck to paycheck, renting a 5b home for $3600 a month and they almost didn’t make rent last month. They have 3 car payments in the $800 payment range, maxed out cc & no savings. Owning a house has been a God sent to me with rent well into the 3k’s. My mortgage with payment, interest, taxes & insurance is $1250.00.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom to your peers and the future generations, financial literacy unfortunately is not taught either in school or university because they want you to spend money, go in debt and keep working for the rich all life. Muchas gracias mi amigo Austin, wishing you a million subscribers soon because you are amazing, God bless 🙏
You make a lot of good sense...one idea for you is to buy your home rather than rent your home so you are building equity and benefit from the appreciation of real estate and not be subject to your landlord raising your rent. Our home that we bought 20 years ago is now worth more than 4 times what we paid for it. It’s one of our biggest assets and when we retire we will be able to buy our next home with cash and have a nice chunk left over to live on assuming we move out of this area. One thing I would have done differently is to buy more real estate and not sell what I had because that is something you can always count on to go up in value. Thanks for your great videos!
So how would you benefit from buying more Rea estate unless you planned on selling it to someone else? With stuff like that people have to have a place to stay so why would you want more houses since you can only live in one?
I have two credit cards with no debt on them, a home with no debt, and 3 vehicles with no debt either. When his (my husband who also co owns the stuff without debt) paycheck comes through, I deduct $100 and invest and $275 which goes in savings. The rest goes towards bills, groceries, and gas. We also own land in northwestern PA. We're in the process of buying another 15 acres in Western PA.
What you say is so true. I know people who make about US$ 38,000 A MONTH!!!! and the wife complains about having no money. They spend money like crazy, their mortgage alone is $10,000 a month. They're very bad in managing their income
I've always lived well below my means. Been doing it so long it's just the way life is. You could double my income or cut it in half and I wouldn't miss a step.
I'm actually early for this one yay! I always enjoy watching your videos! I currently live in California because of family but I'm trying to save up to move out of state because I want to live a more simpler life and a less expensive environment.
I got caught in some stupid things. My mother taught me a phrase that helps a lot when people call to sell: "What are you trying to sell?" Another thing are quotes. A cable service could cost $99.99 a month, but there are fees and taxes on top of that, so you could easily be spending $135 a month.
Having a big house can be a win situation when it is turned into a money generating project like Airbnb or renting out. The invest turned out to be a compensation for me. I live in a developing country.
Whew, choosing where to live is a BiG challenge for me. Please, for a Cajun that now lives in Austin, please do a vid about choosing where to live. I don't want to move far, just rural or a city of 70k instead of Austin. I can't decide. I want to have a big market garden, but I also don't want to be lonely in too rural of an area.
I know for some people in the US living without a car is unthinkable, but I sold mine living in Los Angeles. I hardly drove it, because I live downtown and I only had it because that’s what society said a successful person should have, but that wasn’t a good enough reason to keep the money trap!
Great video man I love those estatistcs that's what I always tell people think outside the box roll with the punches and its not about the destination but the journey.
There was a time that i spend to much time on youtube. Mostly I watched American youtubers ( i’m from the Netherlands) and i was always fascinated about how it’s like to live in the states. And they things you guys have and we don’t. . So what i did was watching american youtube families. With their perfect house… perfect Tesla cars… perfect kids… amazing vacations like disneyworld… the latest gadgets.. all being very successful very happy and full of energy.. yes i knew they were promoting product ( like tesla). Or some other toys or gadgets.. maybe even dinsey who knows… but some how it gave me a negative feeling.. i became jealous. Thoughts like… why do i don’t own that electric car?… i wish i had that house that house in that neighborhood …… why i’m not happy like they are? Or successful.? Or those trips to disney.. i want to live in America! So what happened is… I started to dislike myself because I wasn’t so successful and having a good and interesting job like them… and feeling happy like they are … I disliked my car because I compared it with their cars . I didn’t appreciate my house anymore because it didn’t look as nice… i even fantasized about leaving the Netherlands for America because I didn’t wanted to be here anymore because america must be way better! ( never bin in The states)… i even looked for lease contract and loans to get myself an ev because they said get money from the bank and get yourself a Tesla! Or even a loan for going to Disneyworld to get their experience. Man it was like i felt depressed . Some how I stopped myself watching them. And slowly accepting where i am in life and trying to appreciate what i have… if i want something i save for it. Like a car… or a vacation to the states for first time. I give myself goals .
@@ElAgustin well… allot of UA-cam families driving to disney world channels. Sometimes even more than once per year.. unbelievable. 😂 but for what i seen on youtube america looks way cooler than here. There is just more… and it’s like there is more possible. Saving for my retirement ( index) and saving for my American vacation! Can’t wait to see it with my own eyes

We have a 3 bedroom fixer upper. We bought it because my husband is a carpenter who wanted to go out on his own. He's renovating his dad's house. After he and the rest of the family are done, the house will go up for sale. His dad inherited the house and left it go when his wife got sick. Some of the family members have tried to get a deal on the house. The house was willed to him and his brother. When it sells, I'll get to see him again. We unintentionally went to lunch today. I was buying our Thanksgiving turkey and met a man who owned a little restaurant. We ate at his restaurant. He was not really expecting us, but he was glad we showed up. His food was very good. I'm now retired and living on Social Security however I do manage to save save. Enjoy what you have you work hard for it. Being a Frugal minimalist really helps! Don't bother trying to keep up with the Joneses they're broke!
Woooow #1-4 has kept me stuck making the same mistakes this past year and so forth. I’ve finally feel like I’m growing out of this. This was the same realizations I’ve had to have a conversation with myself about
You make my day each time I watch your videos!!! I just love you young man!!! So wise!
What's amazing is , the knowledge you have at your age. Keep up the good work.
This was a simple yet powerul list! thank you for sharing!
WONDERFUL VIDEO!!! I really ser eye to eye with you and it shocks me that people in Brazil splurge so often. It gets to the point that they spend on a regular weekend drinking, eating and having fun with friends, the equivalent of my health insurance monthly payment!!! Thanks a lot for your generosity of teaching and sharing so much with us.
Thanks! Interesting to see the same concepts in other parts of the world!
Thank you so much for your inspirational videos. I'm learning to save and have stopped living from paycheck to paycheck.
Love your videos. I mentioned you in my recent video. May abundance follow you wherever you go.
Agustin, de este video me quedo con la frase: "NORMAL BEHAVIOURS DO NOT BRING ANY EXTRA ENJOYMENT," e incluso al final son muy caros... Gracias amigo!!
Gracias, Juanito!
number 8 just made me think. time and how we spend it is the real indicator of wealth.
Love your videos…Keep up the great work
I did not leave when the list was completed but continued to listen to the end.
Excellent advice, Gracias 🙏🏼
Practice boundaries. At times, make exceptions, but keep it minimal. If they’re true friends they’ll understand.
Like minded friends. Doing outdoor things! It isn't easy...as you said.
I read the video description in addition to watching the video. This video should be taught to high school students. This video would make a perfect audition for school administrators to hire you for special classes or speeches. please consider doing it. ❤️
Amigo me gusta mucho tus vídeos … I am a Colombian guy living in London .
You are a wise man .
Thoroughly get a kick out of your unique skew on all things and and your fun presentation….you’re doing great work here….. ❤
By consuming Austin’s social media I’m spending less , thanks for your great channel .
you are very wise and i really appreciate your advice. much thanks
Hello there, I subscribed for the life lessons, I liked for the advice and I stayed for your Spanish accent 👍Gracias!
Thanks I enjoyed this perspective and the life values you are giving over.
Freedom 💲💲
Es comprar lo que te gusta, lo que deseas sin ver el precio.
Como soy frugal lo entiendo perfectamente.
You changed my life. As simply as that. Thanks man. I wish i would understand the spanish at the end of the videos….😅
What you say is so true. I know people who make about US$ 38,000 A MONTH!!!! and the wife complains about having no money. They spend money like crazy, their mortgage alone is $10,000 a month. They're very bad in managing their income
Loved this. And still laughing at “The natural predator of the dog is the bathtub.”
I subscribed because I watch until the end. Every single time!
Thanks! haha
Same
That's when I knew I'd made it (McDs not lookin at prices-lol & yah!). People leave the SECOND the list is over-lol. So enjoy. 🙂
I've always lived well below my means.
Been doing it so long it's just the way life is.
You could double my income or cut it in half
and I wouldn't miss a step.
Once again extremely powerful material. Thank you for sharing these ideas.David ..chicago
I'm actually early for this one yay! I always enjoy watching your videos! I currently live in California because of family but I'm trying to save up to move out of state because I want to live a more simpler life and a less expensive environment.
Love the video and your positive approach. Keep ‘em coming!
Appreciate it!
Me gusta el Agustin!
Thank you Austin, you are good at expressing money
My paid off home has been a 100percent blessing....ps.i fix everything!!!!!
I got caught in some stupid things. My mother taught me a phrase that helps a lot when people call to sell: "What are you trying to sell?" Another thing are quotes. A cable service could cost $99.99 a month, but there are fees and taxes on top of that, so you could easily be spending $135 a month.
The government always needs their cut, haha!
YES!!! Experiences over possessions!
Me hace reir mucho cuando hablas español, amo tu acento 🤣 Que viva el Agustin! Saludos desde Uruguay
gracias mijito
When you're driving substantial distances to trailheads hiking can become expensive, especially with the price of gas now.
Webster’s Dictionary defines El Agustin as “brilliant and of sound mind”. 🧡 🐪
💖
Wise beyond your years!
I know for some people in the US living without a car is unthinkable, but I sold mine living in Los Angeles. I hardly drove it, because I live downtown and I only had it because that’s what society said a successful person should have, but that wasn’t a good enough reason to keep the money trap!
I love this your channel! Thank you!
I appreciate your videos, because many of us learned what you are saying the hard way. Also we didn't
know what to do.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch them!
Clever ! Amigo Austiiin 👍☺️ Gracias 🙏
Buen vídeo Austin!
I found Dave Ramsey and I’ve been following his baby steps.
Bing watching your videos. Addicted to the information. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Great video man I love those estatistcs that's what I always tell people think outside the box roll with the punches and its not about the destination but the journey.
Thanks!
Great video again. Appreciate your videos
Keep up the Great work MAN
Thanks again for sharing your genius mind with us.
Thanks for watching!
We don't all drive Teslas and go to Disneyland!
@@ElAgustin well… allot of UA-cam families driving to disney world channels. Sometimes even more than once per year.. unbelievable. 😂 but for what i seen on youtube america looks way cooler than here. There is just more… and it’s like there is more possible. Oh well we can’t have everything right? But what i can do for myself is set some goals… like saving for an EV. ( will take years ). Saving for my retirement ( index) and saving for my American vacation! Can’t wait to see it with my own eyes
@@jdnrotterdam2150 Hi, I live in florida and go to Disney world often. I have also been to the Netherlands as well. You have an amazing country and it is so progressive compared to the US and Florida in particular. Things seem more genuine in Europe where everything is fabricated and fake in America. With the one exception being out natural landscapes. They are beautiful. I’ll do a house swap with you anytime! 😂
@@overheadsurf interesting to know sir! Well i live in Rotterdam The netherlands. And it’s mostly industrial area here. I never bin in the states but it looks like there is just more fun things to do in the US. Take roadtrips for example. All scenery of North America. In europe driving a car is terrible with all those rules overhere. And everything is cramped. But i think i have to experience America for myself. I am saving hard for it. How is it like to live on florida?
@@jdnrotterdam2150 Just remember that in America credit cards are easily available so many of these families live in debt. Most Americans are not wealthy but living on credit gives the average family access to more expensive lifestyles.
What about spending too much money on travelling? I want to travel but then I will have to keep working full time in other to afford it. I wonder how to keep a balance with that.
Deleted all food delivery apps on my phone and I now cook my own meals that is much cheaper than ordering food.
I need to do the same thing and delete those unnecessary apps from my iPhone 📱
Another excellent one for our next family meeting!
You're almost at 20,000 subscribers! Good job, mi amigo! Love, love, love your message. I live a lovely frugal life like Augustin!
Just subscribed to your channel after watching this video so thank you so much 😊!
Thanks for watching, Praveen! And welcome!
Excellent insights .
We'll chalk that up to...it was worth it.
