Very good advice, and at 68 years of age I realise that if I had followed your advice at your age I would be in an extremely better position today than I am (although I'm comfortable enough) but I do remember that the temptations at that time of my life were very hard to resist! Nowadays, I don't "need" much and I am not as tempted by "stuff" as I was. It's definitely trickier for younger people to discipline themselves to these strategies but they will reap the rewards later as you wisely say. Great video again and I hope you have lots of younger followers taking heed of your excellent lessons.
Frugality is fun! Delayed gratification on carefully thought-out purchases cannot be beat! Heck, walking past junk others find essential and that you exist joyfully without being mad, heady stuff! Life is just there to be enjoyed as best we can and contentment is 1 of the best things there is to enjoy it with!
I'm no expert, but I try to eat a balanced diet of healthy foods. Cutting way back on buying things like beer, chips, soda, cookies, and candy not only save you money, but they also cut a lot of unhealthy things out of your diet. In addition, look for sales and use coupons when you can. Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive and you can think of it also as preventative maintenance for your body.
Same and it shows how much we have. I lived in Ecuador and right now people are telling me they are rationing electricity up to 12 hours a day w/o electricity because they don't have enough. Imagine how people would respond if that happened here.
Another excellent video from the Great Agustin! Seriously, Austin, if I were going to start a UA-cam channel, I would follow your example on how to grow a successful channel in a short amount of time. You have a relatively simple formula that works and you never stray from it. Congratulations for finding what "works" and sticking to it! Have a wonderful day! 🙂
Frugality is life changing. Has allowed us to become debt free, build a nice savings & recently start an investment portfolio. I believe lots of people confuse frugality with living poor.
Great video, and congrats on learning the compound interest so early in life. Its not necessarily how much you make but how much you invest. I have lived more the standard frugality and even applied it to food, eg is the calories in that donut worth the amount of exercise I need to do to burn it off 😂.
Dear El Agustin, I can hear your voice, intonation, and individual words very clearly without echo. Thanks for the content of your video. I need the advice!
Excellent video, Austin. As far as "nice things" go, you can certainly have some while being extremely frugal if you scout out thrift stores, flea markets, etc. I mean high quality clothes, furnishings etc. Maybe you're not going to get the cruise to the Caribbean but you don't have to live like a monk either!
Buen audio, no problema. I have been both. It’s depends what goal I have. I had never feel deprived. I grew up in a frugal household, but never extreme.
It changed my life too, to the point where I went from minimum wage and rock bottom to a fully paid house, 4 flats and multiple six figures and financial freedom. Stay Uncommon!
I’m glad I grew up without social media, but watching your videos, I wish I had them available to me earlier in life. I discovered extreme frugality in my late 30’s and with two jobs was able to pay off my student loans and my house within 10 years. And when my car died I was able to buy one without having car payments. People think I live this life of deprivation, but I have no financial stress and only work part-time.
Thanks to The Tightwad Gazette and Amy D I was able to be frugal when I became a stay at home mom. The kids went to school and I still stayed home. Now hubby and I are retired and we are secure. I drive a 14 yr old car and hubby's is 10 years old. Life is good!
Austin, your videos are always spot on and this one is no different! I am starting a new job in January and also will have a substantial increase in salary, so it will make it so much easier for me to focus on embracing frugality and hopefully be able to build my assets even faster than I ever have before, especially with the uncertainty of what the US economy will be like over the next few years. I don't anticipate my expenses changing too much from this year to next year, other than regularly making monthly payments to pay down my student loan debt and I will have a big enough buffer to make sizable payments.
Everything you advise, I already do. It comes naturally to me, but I think that for most people it's the antithesis of their daily financial habits. In 7 years, I went from 16K to 160K. I put away $1500 per month in Vanguard mutual funds, and I live out of my vehicle, since 2019.
2nd viewer. 🎉🎊 or in the words of my favorite comic, George Carlin, I'm next! Extreme frugality keeps our bank accounts full and adds more. Dave Ramsey says we have huge emergencies every few years. You've had more than your share in 1 year. I don't remember the exact number of emergencies, but if people haven't had one, they're extremely lucky and one is coming. Our mini split ran out of refrigerant. We got a couple estimates and saved thousands.
I recently found your channel and have enjoyed the few I watched. I will continue to watch them but I've noticed your titles are geared towards frugality but then the video is talking a lot about investing. Some of us are just starting out either investing or paying off debt, seeking ways to be more frugal so we can eventually invest. Could you make a dedicated frugality/money saving hacks/smart money choices only video to help out to pay off some debt (if you already have one I haven't gotten to yet then perhaps a updated one).
Alittle echo ,as when you speak in a large empty room ...but very clear

The way prices for basic items are going off the rails, then tariffs added to even food, frugality will be a way of life by necessity. Even some in retirement have to go back to work even if part time. Fortunately, I travelled in better times or when younger w/ parents touring the country. Been overseas also. Into retirement, and for many retrees, medical co pays and perscriptions take a toll. Rasing a family for most young people is super expensive and women have to work also/stay in the workforce. '70's hyperinflation was mild compare to now.
You can afford to be frugal! Other people have to store equipment to be more sufficient because they don't have a store to just run down and buy things. They have to have spare clothing of all kind, stuff to make their dishes with, tools to DIY anything around the house and so on.... Imagine the coming depression when you don't have a choice but do things with what you have already
Thank you for another excellent video Agustin. I've come back twice to 7:50 to remind myself of the importance of time in growing savings exponentially especially in terms of retirement savings.
The other thing is that you save on what you can to pay for what you want. In my life it was a week of sleep away camp for our kids and take them on vacations where I was frugal on what I could be.
Very nice.. what did you do with the 80 K ? Did you put it in Index funds ? I’d assume so.. Was replacing the car engine for $ 6000 a wise decision ? For that money you could’ve bought a good condition preowned car and scrapped your old car. Would still have the scrap price in your pocket and zero problems at least for a year or 2 with a good dealer warranty !!?!! 🤔😀❤️
I took a gamble and got a new engine because a good car would be more than $6,000. The car was in good condition outside the engine. Whereas you never know what problems a car will have when you buy it used. Cars are annoying.
Achieving a 10% annual return without risk is a frequently discussed topic. In the United States, it is generally accepted that such a return involves taking on risk. Traditional investments like savings accounts offer much lower returns. To aim for higher returns, one often has to turn to investments that carry a risk of capital loss, such as stocks or real estate, which can offer more attractive returns but with increased constraints and risks.
Not only am I extremely frugal, my sons are following my footsteps. Last night I was scrolling you tube in the living room since I don’t have a TV, and my son came in and turned the light off on me and said, “You’re wasting utilities” and there we all sat, in our respective areas of the house in the dark. 😂
I recently sold some of my long-term position and currently sitting on about 250k, do you think Nvidia is a good buy right now or I have I missed out on a crucial buy period, any good stock recommendation on great performing stocks will be appreciated.
As a newbie investor, it’s essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Kristine Lynn Weber is my trade analyst, she has guided me to identify key market trends, pinpointed strategic entry points, and provided risk assessments, ensuring my trades decisions align with market dynamics for optimal returns.
I managed to grow a nest egg of around 120k to over a Million. I'm especially grateful to Adviser Kristine Lynn Weber, for her expertise and exposure to different areas of the market.
I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $200k passively by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Inflation or no inflation, my finances remain secure. So I really don't blame people who panic.
Without a doubt! Kristine Lynn Weber is a trader who goes above and beyond. she has an exceptional skill for analysing market movements and spotting profitable opportunities. Her strategies are meticulously crafted on thorough research and years of practical experience.
how would you recommend i enter the crypto market? I am also looking at studying some traders and copying their strategy rather than investing myself and losing money emotionally.. What's your take on this approach? and How can i reach her, if you don't mind me asking?
Hey mate, I wanted to share a thought about your take on extreme frugality. While being mindful of spending is great, pushing extreme frugality can backfire on the very economy you rely on for your content to thrive. When people stop spending, businesses struggle, jobs are lost, and innovation slows, which ultimately affects everyone's ability to support creators like you. Encouraging balanced spending not only keeps the economy healthy but also ensures people have the resources to enjoy things like your videos. Frugality has its place, but if everyone took it to the extreme, platforms like UA-cam-and the creators on it-would struggle to exist. Something to think about!
Frugality is so hard for me. I really don't wanna spend money on unnecessary things because I know I don't need them but I always end up spending more than I need. I've been trying for a year now to become frugal at once but it's not working. Whenever I get my salary each month the first thing I do is to save at least 200 bucks or more but I always end up spending that money, even though I know I'll need it in the future. I'm trying so hard but I always fail. Can someone help me with some tips?
It’s all an opportunity cost, right? I can spent $2,000 on a nice vacation today or invest it and reap the benefits later. Taking an extreme approach to saving is not for me, but I understand the value in it. I still save with each paycheck, it’s just on a smaller percentage. Regardless, you should be proud of the sacrifices you’ve made to reach financial freedom.
This dudes advice is like a double edged sword. He’s so cheap that if you follow his advice you’ll feel guilty about a “luxury purchase” he doesn’t even believe in tipping waiters! So although his advice can help some I don’t think it’s useful for everyone. I would watch someone like Dave Ramsey or Vincent Chan, they give really good advice and they’re not cheap.
I live in Russia but I love spending and shopping everyday when I'm not working. Can you do a video where you show how to shop frugally for healthy meals (like paleo, or a standard healthy diet, etc.)? I eat extremely clean and most things here have gone up in the past few years. Before the past few years, I was able to eat high quality in the city for cheap. Now it's expensive. I'm thinking of moving to the countryside soon for cheaper farm meats from neighbors but my job requires me to be in the big city.
I need your feedback...Is the audio quality okay in this video? Do you hear any echo? I'm trying to figure out the sound in the new apartment.
Audio Quality is perfect! Another great video - Thank you Austin.
Video sounded good El Agustin.. ❤
Sounds good, but I am aware you are in an open room (there is a small amount of echo, but it's not affecting the quality of sound).
All good :)
Sounds good to me.
Extremely Frugality to Financial Freedom
rather than
Shopping Spree to Extreme Poverty

Love the plants, French doors and hardwood floors, the new apartment is beautiful!
Agree 💯
Agree too 👍

Just what I need and not many people are willing to share these things like you do so, I greatly appreciate it and keep it going!
can you pls do a “full day of eating as a minimalist”? Thanks
I'm no expert, but I try to eat a balanced diet of healthy foods. Great video - I found volunteering in a struggling country helped improve my sense of gratitude ❤

I'm just doing my best.

To me the video sounds great. You send a strong message in every sense of the word.
Interesting. It's nice to see the progression of professionalism in your videos. Looking forward to the next one. Audio seems OK.
Dear El Agustin, I can hear your voice, intonation, and individual words very clearly without echo. Thanks for the content of your video. I need the advice!

Living frugal also help strengthen my mentality. I don't have anxiety at work anymore. Thanks for your advice. 🎉
A tiny bit of a buzzing echo but perfectly acceptable. Another good video!
Imagine this:
You are extremely frugal but you still struggle to afford food.
(Best to start practicing because this is the future)
Perfect and clear audio

Awesome wisdom!! I tell everyone I'm a Broke Bald Bastard.....but I'm really not! Lol

I need a couch, lol.

I'm a good tipper, don't you come to quick conclusions.
@ you said in a video to stop tipping to live more frugal! You never make videos about giving. You’re way too frugal for your own good.
Tipping is a bad western culture. Ask us Asians, tips are totally voluntary. Good service should always come by default, not because you expect a tip.
It’s almost like a game! How quickly can I hit my goal 🥅
