The early 1960s were quite the time for Omega, they had just launched their famous trilogy of tools watches including the Omega Speedmaster, Omega Seamaster, and Omega Railmaster in 1957. And, in 1960, Omega was the Official Timekeeper for the Rome Olympics.
Well, the early 1960s also marked the launch of the Omega ‘De Ville’. First as part of the Seamaster series, eventually becoming the ‘Seamaster De Ville’, and then, in 1967, for the first time as its own stand-alone collection. Supposedly due to its popularity. Once an independent collection, the Omega De Ville proved to be sought-after for its sleek, elegant design and reliable mechanical movements.
In the 1970s, the Omega De Ville won a couple awards: the Grand Prize ‘Triumph of European Excellence’ awarded by the Committee of European Excellence and 6 ‘Six Golden Roses’ at the Baden-Baden Design Awards.
Skipping over the De Ville in the 1980s, the early 1990s saw the first central tourbillon in an Omega De Ville. While Omega had previously made tourbillon wristwatches in the 1940s, using the Omega Cal. 301, this tourbillon was different, as it was central and its release marked Omega’s 100th anniversary. The development of this new Omega tourbillon was supposedly nicknamed ‘Project 33’ or ‘P33’ and lead by Moritz Grimm and André Beyner since 1991. It was a difficult technical project and took some inspiration from Omega’s archives to achieve, but the team managed to complete it by 1994, launching the new Omega De Ville Central Tourbillon
Then, towards the end of the decade in 1999, the Omega De Ville was again honoured, chosen to be the first Omega model to bear the new and innovative Omega Caliber 2500; the first co-axial escapement - launched at Baselworld. For some reason, since it was born in the 1960s, the Omega De Ville has time and time again been chosen to mark horological milestones for Omega. From winning awards and being fitted with the best movements, to being chosen to launch new and innovative concepts like the central tourbillon and the co-axial escapement, the De Ville is truly a remarkable Omega. Today it continues to be central to the Omega lineup, still taking inspiration from the design of its predecessors
The Omega Seamaster is a line of automatic winding mechanical diving watches from Omega with a history that can be traced back to the original water-resistant dress watch released in 1948. The Seamaster collection is perhaps best known today for the Seamaster Diver Professional 300m model that has been worn in the James Bond movie franchise since 1995. Originally conceived as a dressy, water-resistant timepiece, the Omega Seamaster has evolved to a robust sports watch line typically with a stainless steel case, robust water resistance, and an official certified chronometer certified movement within. The Diver Professional 300m is most famous for its "train track" five link steel bracelet, its helium release valve at the 10:00 position, the wave pattern dial on certain model generations, and the skeletonized handset.
The Seamaster is the longest running product line still produced by Omega. It was introduced in 1948, and was based upon designs made for the British Royal Navy towards the end of World War II.[5]
The original Seamaster's key feature was an O-ring gasket used to provide its waterproof seal. This design had been developed for use in submarines during the war, and turned out to also be useful for watches, where it made them much less vulnerable to temperature and pressure changes than earlier (lead or shellac) based gasket designs. The Omega Seamaster first made a diving record in 1955, when diver Gordon McLean reached a depth of 62.5 metres (205 ft) in Australia
Omega has been associated with James Bond movies since 1995. That year, Pierce Brosnan took over the role of James Bond and wore the Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M Quartz (model 2541.80.00) in the movie GoldenEye. In all later films, Brosnan wore an Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M Chronometer (model 2531.80.00). In most of Brosnan's 007 films, the helium release valve is transformed into improbable hidden gadgets such as a laser cutter (GoldenEye and Die Another Day) or a remote detonator (Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day).[6]
Before 1995, actors portraying James Bond had usually worn the Rolex Submariner (Reference 6538).[6] The Bond film producers wanted to update the image of the fictional "super-spy"

James is a lucky lad. What a beautiful timepiece. The dial is immaculate & the movement looks as clean as I’d imagine it looked when brand new. Absolutely stunning piece of Omega craftsmanship & history. 👌🏼
@@gthedrum I agree, beautiful watches - this is my favorite line
I’d be very happy to have that beauty on my wrist… BRAVO!
I agree, beautiful watch
What a beautiful watch. Nice work on it too.
Thank You
Beautiful! Coincidentally, I also have a solid 18K Seamaster De Ville from 1963... It belonged to my father and unlike your one which has Swiss hallmarks, the case was made in Birmingham by the Dennison company for Omega. It's marked "A.L.D." inside the case, has English hallmarks and both the hallmark and the movement serial number date it to 1963. Mine has a dateless 552 movement.
Thank You
Piękny zegarek i piękna robota, jak zawsze 🙂👍

How did you remove the crown from the split stem, without pulling it forcefully, i watched closely, you turned it somehow.
hello, Yes I pulled out the crown by force, I split the split stem. I rotated them smoothly several times, checked any looseness on the crown tube and whether the gasket still puts some resistance or needs to be replaced
