    5700xt oc8 and everything at 100% worked. Thanks for setting it straight cause I went from 10-20fps to 50-60fps.
    I gotta say, this game in vr is pretty damn cool when it's clear and smooth.

    I'm guessing by this statement "1.0 (100% steam resolution) x 1.0 (individual game supersampling) = 1.0 (100%)" that "steam resolution" is the 'Resolution Per Eye' in the SteamVR/General tab, and the "individual game supersampling" is the 'Custom Resolution Multiplier' in the SteamVR/Video > Per Application Video Settings.
    So each should be 100%, correct? I already have no stutter, very smooth, but distant objects are very fuzzy and not at all sharp. Closeup (instrument panel) looks great, tho. Which one do you recommend I adjust and in which direction?
    I'm very confused by a number of different terms that might mean the same thing - render scale, render resolution, pixel density, super sampling, etc. I've watched just about everything on UA-cam and I still don't understand where to set things.

      Hi Steve, the easiest way to think of things is like this. Steam sets the resolution of the headset. At 100% in steam the resolution is 4K roughly speaking. If your pc can not run the G2 at 4K, reducing the percentage in steam reduces the resolution of the headset making it easier for the GPU.
      Super sampling in game takes the settings you have and upscales them, making the image better but adding more cost of processing on both cpu and GPU.
      Some people reduce the resolution of the G2 so that there system can run the headset without stutter or frame drops. Then tweak the image with SS. It’s a bit of a balancing act depending on the speed\strength of the system

    I don't care what anyone says. Your advice was perfect. I can now run Assetto Corsa Competizione with no fps stuttering and no motion sickness. To me there is no visual difference between 50% and 100% for settings in VR. The biggest difference are settings in the actual game.

      Thanks that means a lot. Glad you can finally enjoy this sim. As soon as I get my 5900x setup I hope to prove that the cpu is just as important as the GPU. I’m not coming from the angle of high end is best, just that IPC and single core performance as well as decent multithreading goes hand in hand with the GPU at 4K. People currently like my self who had a higher end card, with a weaker cpu, are just leaving a lot of performance on the table.

    Hmmm but I am still not sure if everything is 100% correct here.
    I understanding the explanation, but the per eye resolution Steam sets is so much higher than 2160x2160, I can't believe that all this is necessary to make up for lens effects.
    I think how Steam acts here is fine and bring best quality for the other headsets, but with the G2s already high resolution it bringt most systems into trouble, even many of the better ones.
    Plus I can't really see that the image quality is really degrading when going down to 70%, didn't do much research below. So why don't put it down if it removes stutters and frame latency...

    • @HlspwnsWorld
      @HlspwnsWorld  3 роки тому

      The figures are confirmed by Valve and HP. Lowing to 70% lowers the resolution in the headset and increases system performance.
      Research barrel distortion and frensal lenses and you will get more ideas.
      If you have dropped it to 70% and your happy, go with it. It’s your experience not ours. There is max performance and optimal, everyone’s mileage will vary.

      @@HlspwnsWorld I believe, but I don't get why they tell people to not change it at all.
      The R2s resolution is insane (in a good and bad way ;) ) I run it on a laptop with i9 11900H, 32GB, nVidia RTX3800 16GB, SSD. I optimized everything and took care that no thermal throttling occurs. And yeah Half Life Alyx runs great in any settings. But when I run poorly optimized stuff like some Pavlov custom maps for example I still get huge fps drops. And many people even have weaker hardware. Then you need to reduce at least the per game render resolution to get it playable at all.
      So it would be the better way not to tell people not to touch this but give some deeper Information in which way it affects performance and quality and what to expect when changing it. Same for this Video.

      @@mr.thomas7282 I work in the I.T support sector, I see on a daily basis people who have no intention of understanding a product they own, let alone solving a problem. They simply expect to be provided an instant fix\answer.
      Taking that general view, that’s my opinion of the internet. I really appreciate your comment, and understand what you are saying, but the more complicated you make things the more dependent people become on your support.
      The reason I don’t change the steam VR setting is because it’s global. You change that and every steam VR game you own changes. Now if your hardware is not quite up to the job, thats a quick way to reduce the overhead.
      But as you have mentioned some games run great with max performance others don’t.
      I always tweak settings from within games, so changes are made at a game level and not at a global level. It makes things so much easier to manage.

    A sw developer recommended me general Steam 150% (barrel Reverb G2 correction) and in ACC resolution scale 50% and SS depending on your hw CPU - GPU. works with 1080ti 2080ti 3070 3080 3080ti 3090.
    allows low latency without spikes, no extra load on the CPU and keeps the GPUs within 88% of the load (then depends on the graphics setting in ACC). tested on 5600x B550 1080ti 2080ti 3080 3080ti 3090. the increase in sharpness given by the Steam SS 150% is essential, as the lens controls the image quality

    • @HlspwnsWorld
      @HlspwnsWorld  3 роки тому

      Interesting; but your increasing the scaled resolution and decreasing the in game resolution. The game runs without issue on the CPU, the load is on the GPU because of the VR side.
      I don’t really see a great return in downsampling something that’s easy to run and increasing the resolution of the bit that’s really hard to run.
      Just wondering how much all of this counts with AMD FX in the latest shader patch. As soon as the temperature drops I’ll do some investigation

    But your last video helps me to avoids stuttering in DCS in the sound too. Before your video I let Steam VR at 100% for DCS and 1 in the super sampling DCS's settings.
    And after your video I put DCS at 50% and the DCS's super sampling at 1.5.
    After that no more big stuttering and a clear sound without interruptions.
    So, I think it depends of softwares and we must try each one to see what is the best setup for each games.

      You're absolutely right, some games have unbearable performance drops at the native g2 resolution steam (100%).
      My method is to leave the steam resolution setting at 100%. If I need to 'under-sample' a game for a boost in performance, I can just edit the super-sampling multiplier within steam for that particular title only.
      The default setting for the individual titles is at 100%. So overall;
      1.0 (100% steam resolution) x 1.0 (individual game supersampling) = 1.0 (100%)
      Under-sampling for performance I would only change the individual game setting;
      1.0 (100% steam resolution) x 0.5 (individual game SS) = 0.5 (50%)
      That way you can keep the higher resolution across the board for your collection & conveniently keep a tailored setting for titles in which you require more performance - at the expense of resolution.
      This way you can capitalise on the native g2 resolution by default instead of always having it at 50% across the board.
