Re arranged my entire living room to give me a 4mx3m play space and installed a ceiling pulley system. Now I just need the wheel and chair for pc3 so get that video up id love to see your new setup. I played beat saber for 4 hours straight last night must have put 2 gallons of water in me and sweated 4 gallons out. Having a few good cyclone fans around you blowing cold air right at you helps to keep the moisture around your face down. A ceiling pulley system helps too just hooked mine up yesterday FINALLY. I makes the world of difference no more stepping on cords or it sticking to my back and getting in the way. Good luck with the new set hope it ships soon.
Yes, but what about us with no display port! I have a 2018 Acer predator Helios 300. Which has no mini display port or display port, although I have a1060 gtx graphics card! Any example of this running through a converter to run the headset in a pc without display port?

SDE is a physical effect due to the pixels having gaps between them, not a software problem. Half resolution will just make the image blurrier, but there won't be any weird problems with the screen.

For anyone still wondering...I have a ryzen 5 2600, 16gb ram and a 3060 12gb rtx and a Reverb G2. I can run MSFS at 115% open XR resolution (much more than full res) and have the Sim settings between medium to high. It is butter smooth and I'm so glad I took the risk. It is way beyond worth it and blows oculus quest 2 away with the clarity and smoothness of the Sim. I'm incredibly stoked. The new s10 and NVIDIA updates are a real game changer with DLSS set to balanced I'm getting mostly solid 30fps and 25fps in huge cities. What a time to be alive!

Not sure if I heard that in one of your videos before but is the half resolution mode (if thats like a „real“ mode to put in the g2 from the hp/microsoft software - or if thats just what you have to change the resolution to in the options in steam vr) limiting the fps of the g2 to 60fps? or is that just another option to take? sry if my question is dumb or anything, just REALLY considering to preorder the g2 from amazon spain and want to be sure since I only got a 1070 that I am not stuck at 60fps even when the resolution is down to 50% really informative video as always! thanks for your effort and also translating it in english as well, must take quite a bit of time!
Thanks Sebastian this is the video I have been waiting to see. I have pre-ordered the G2 but currently running an RTX2060 with a Quest using link or Virtual Desktop. My biggest gripe is the SDE so really happy to see this dramatically reduced in the G2. I can can overclock the RTX2060 so will probably be able to run some games at full rez but I guess its gonna be try it and see but I will be content until I upgrade to a Rtx3080 later. Keep up the great work!
@Split Enz - I have the exact same problem! I was thinking about overclocking it too. I can’t believe the RTX 2060 super can run it at full res but we can’t 😭 If I’d known I would’ve bought the super
@@NICOMINDE well in 6 weeks I guess we will know lol. I think we will be lucky and be able to run some games like Alyx at full rez. But I will accept half rez if that's the way it turns out until I upgrade to a faster gpu. Fingers crossed!
If anyone has tried with overclocking, post it here. I have bought my PC a year ago with rtx 2060 and can't upgrade the GPU. Now would be gutted to see if I can't play Alyx in full res as the reason I bought the G2.
If Alyx will support Dlss 2.1(it's works with VR), then there will be no problem to play Alyx on full res. Just have a look, what dlss 2.0 make with game "Control". The game gains even 100% more FPS!
Bought one, returned 2 days later. Sweet spot the size of a half dollar, all text outside that are very blurry. Rift S more consistent in clarity across the screen. Vibration on controllers is loud and feels cheap not good at all. Bit of pressure point on my temple's not to bad but Rift S much more comfort. The cable is thick and very grippy so will pull on you. When you first start up a lot of ghosting effects until it heats up, and screen door until it warms up. 10 mins or so then gone. If you want to surf the web you can not scroll with the controllers. You will have to use a mouse as well. Wanna type in search bar, your gonna need to lift up headset and use physical keyboard. Tried playing Pavlov you can not use 2 hands on weapons. Right hand will grip but left hand does not grip the weapon. So I'm guessing custom mapping is needed. Have heard this is the case on many other games. Cant hit anything with only 1 hand on a machinegun. God rays are very noticeable on the G2 V2, my Rift S never really noticed them. I purchased on sale for 499 but still not worth that. maybe $350. In games the sweet spot is not as bad, you really don't see it much but, on anything else you can only read 2 words and then left and right of those 2 words are blurry and the next ones very blurry. I wanted to love this but I'm going back to Rift S. Controllers hit when reloading weapons. I really believe the Rift S or Quest 2 are much better at software, easy of use, you can just play and even the screens have much bigger sweet spot. I think if you are sim racing its a great choice the sweet spot not as bad. Sim flying your gonna have to turn your head a lot to see the gauges clearly. I'd wait. The only thing it has going for it is sound and the very small sweet spot. Just my experience. Imma keep my rift s until something better comes along.
Good video, but ..... I've read a lot of reviews and no one really knows what half resolution means. 2160x1080 .... 1080x1080 ..... etc etc .... And where do you adjust? The only thing that matters in the video is left unsaid. MRTV be clear!

I was looking at an Index... but after seeing the subreddit ehhhh no... lol. Some serious customer service issues it seems. I have a Rift S, got it about 2 weeks ago and a new rig 4 days ago, got my wife the 256gb Quest 2 with Elite Headstrap and it bugged out her eyes and gave her headaches. So i'm sitting on a pile of cash now and seriously considering this headset. Her Quest 2 was my first VR experience and while it definitely blew me away to be IN the game, it was everything i hoped and more being a kid of the 80's and seeing all the movies/sci fi promising this tech seemingly way after my time... i loved it so much i instantly knew i needed to get a sharper image and higher FoV asap. I COULD wait for the new headsets to roll out next year or whatever but... yeah idk. When i play on Rift S it feels a lot better than the Quest 2 in both terms of comfort and clarity (though i never tried hooking Quest up to a PC) But it still feels like i'm in a box, the FoV is just really limited, when i learned that the FoV gets much larger on the more expensive headsets i was pretty much sold on something new. This looks like a smarter buy than the Index, even at half resolution which is what i'll be stuck with for now seeing as i only have a RTX2060. Now i wish i could have sprung for the better card. Oh well.
I wonder if NVIDIA will create a dedicated DLSS for VR. Combine that with depth aware motion smoothing and it could push things a lot further or even enable Ray Tracing in VR.
Man I've been waiting since November for an RTX 3080, It's now Feb 20th 2021 and still out of stock, and luckily I sniped an HP reverb G2 which I was also waiting on for months, so can't wait to fire it up on my gtx 1070, and hopefully I get to experience full res once the 3080 becomes available!
@@JonahHax yeah, and that also depends on your own head form. So it is difficult to say here somethng, that is correct for everyone. Even that FoV things he already does shows only how it is for himself. It can already be different for me, even when i have the same IPD than he have (64mm).
This is very gut to know, I have a 1080, but even on the Rift s I only get around 60FPS on some games, and It could be the end of the year before I can get my hands on one of those next-gen cards.

This is super useful information! Do you have any data on the performance impact/improvement on the GPU (and also CPU) when using full vs half-resolution modes? How big of an FPS (or really frame times) difference is there? Could you also do some comparison to the Samsung Odyssey+ at 150% or 200% SuperSampling? How does that compare to the Reverb G2 at half and full resolution as well as the performance impact on the system? I'm just curious if the visuals on the Samsung at 150% might be comparable or even better than the G2 at half-resolution or full-resolution since the Samsung is an OLED, has the anti-SDE filter, a wide FOV, and will be running at a higher resolution when at 150% or higher SS. The Samsung does lack the RGB sub-pixels so I feel like it would be an interesting comparison just in terms of visuals!
It would be great to see a through the lens video of G2 at full resolution with max functional/capable SS compared to the Index set at 90hz with max functional/capable SS. Max functional/capable SS meaning NOT hitting any reprojection
Yeah, i said that since weeks to people with weak graphic power, good to have a video now that shows that. :D But do not forget: your graphic card must have a DisplayPort version at lest of 1.3. DP 1.2 will not work with the G2. Someone already asked for DP1.2. Even with half resolution, that is only the internal resolution, but the output resolution is still 2160 x 2160 pixels and for that amount of data you need DP1.3+.
Yup, my 1080 goes to half rez on all games I've tried... runs solidly but once you've seen the full rez... oh boy. Got a 3080 on backorder now. Chacheeeeng

can we get a black levels and colours comparison between gen 1 wmr (such as lenovo explorer) and the hp reverb g2? night stuff, like scary games and night rally in sim racing dont work very well with my headset. everything is just too hard to see. the screens dont go dark enough. bright screens with no detail etc. im hoping the reverb g2 is a lot better for that sort of thing?
Hello, Just a quick question please: I saw that with my Nvidia geforce gtx 1660 graphics card it says : half resolution. It means that it's not worth buying the HP for its better resolution compared to the Meta Quest 2, because it will not have this better resolution and only the half? Thank you for your advice. I'm very curious about how G2 at half resolution compares to Quest 2. I have an rtx 2060 and am wondering if simply overclocking it would bring higher than 50% resolution on G2. This will likely push me to choose G2 over Q2 if that is possible. I can't upgrade from rtx 2060, so...
The rift s resolution is 2.25 times lower than the reverbs resolution, so you should still see a 25% increase at half res because half of 4320x2160 is more than 2560x1440. Not to mention that since it fits perfectly into the original resolution it should look good and you still get the benefit of very minimized SDE.
pyroth309 i very highly doubt that the rift could look better than any current gen vr headset with only supersampling. You underestimate just how low the resolution on those headsets are
@@queenbiscuit311 All I said is it would look better than half res, which it would. Rift S already has better text legibility than Index despite having a lower resolution. It has more pixels in the center. But Reverb G2 will definitely look better at full resolution and beyond.

I gues you have 16 GB of ram... 1) Rift S - dont buy it. Not supported by oculus anymore. New games will not run properly. My personal experience with RIFT S is that it is not good for sim (to low res; objects in front of you are blurry, cars 100m in front of you looks like in grant turismo 2) and it disapointed me with many errors (black screen, USB power limitation...) 2)You should choose between G2 or Q2. It is hard recomend because i heve never tried those two. My guess... a) Will you buy new powerful laptop / PC with hiend GPU soon? take G2. One of the best VR headset for sim players. b)Will you stick with that laptop? take quest 2 (mobile RTX 3060 6GB - cant run 100% res g2, not even Q2 in my opinion), you save some money and you will have standalone VR with better tracking. Just dont expect miracles. VR is more performance demanding than 4K... 3)Ask the comunity of the game you want to play what do they think before you buy it. If you bought your VR already let me know how does it work? I am looking for some VR too.
@MRTV Sebastian, could you do a comparison of image clarity between Reverb G2 and Pimax 8K X? In particular for reading gauges in aircraft and seeing distant scenery and objects. SweViver has through the lens video that makes it look like 8K X is better clarity than Reverb (G1), but an overseas friend of mine who has both says that Reverb still has noticeably better image clarity for reading gauges and such. Hi Seb, I would love to see how a generic GTX 1070 would fair up. Is it possible that you could acquire one, pop it in your PC and see how it really performs. With the half resolution of the G2 ?. Could you do that for us please.
A 1070 was the minimum requirement of the Rift (S). Even at half resolution the G2 has many more pixels than the Rift, so you can savely assume that a 1070 isn't enough to power a G2.

So ive had the HP REVERB for 0ver 6 months now and its never been out of its box because i just can't get an RTX 3080 which ive been told is the best card for this headset, can you recommend an AMD Card that will run this Headset as good as the 3080 ?
Hp or windows would be bonkers if there wasn't a "fixed foveated rendering" option where the middle 15%-30% was rendered at full and the rest at half resolution.

Sir have you tried the VR Performance toolkit V0.2.2? It seems to vastly improve performance and perceived resolution in windows vr headsets. I use the gtx1080 with the Samsung Audessey+ and it's helped quite a bit.
I have a 1070 and was worried I wouldnt be able to use the Reverb, however if it does work out well even in Half-Res I should still have a good experience should I decide to get one.
I just bought. I have a 1070 too but crossed fingers hoped it would cope somewhat until 3000 seeies launches. Half res is a blessing. Wonder if it does do full res with the lower gpus?
Since one year ago I have the G1, and the same GPU, and I don't have any problems. Don't forget you can play bellow ultra if you see problems. As usual in fact. But I'm near Ultra with Alyx.

I have a Samsung Odyssey+ to play a few vr games from my gaming laptop, whilst my main headset (index) is setup in my man shed. I've preordered the G2 and super excited, but should I keep or sell the Odyssey+? How does the G2 at half resolution compare? Would I be better just using the G2 at half resolution instead? What is half resolution in terms of render tagret resolution in SteamVR? What is 1.0x resolution in SteamVR? "half-res" could mean either 1.44x less x and z resolution or 2x less in each direction, so it isn't really straightforward. The target resolution is really important, if the barrel distortion correction is the same as with Index, we have 3k x 3k each eye render frame, if it's like G1 it's 2208 x 2160, it's a massive difference.

i think i figured it out. Keep my base stations and wands for downstairs (more space) buy the g2 to replace my og vive and use it upstairs in the sim rig. This way i could cover two scenarios by using g2 with vive wands. But its more expensive than index and has lower fov......im lost.
Hello MRTV, great videos. Can you please comment on the black levels in very dark scenes, such as The Forest at night, dark caves in Skyrim, horror games, Saints and Sinners, etc? I just got an Index this week finally and love it, but I am a huge horror fan and all of my favorite horror games look terrible. I don't get scared anymore, it is just a gray, washed out mess. Everything else has been amazing on the Index, and the jump in resolution from the OG Vive is great! But with these blacks, I am concerned, if the G2 has far better blacks then I want to consider returning the Index and getting the G2. Blacks are that important to me. However, if you feel they are just slightly better, or similar, then I won't bother. I know they are both LCD panels, so I assume it is similar... but what are your thoughts on this? Thank you very much.
A VR headset at half rez certainly makes more sense than getting a 4K display and then game in 1080p on it, but only if you are bothered by SDE. Otherwise I would say upgradi g GPU first makes more sense, a used 1080ti is at a good price/performance ratio

Nice video! I used the reverb g1 with my gtx 970 at full resolution. I believe steam or WMR can do a reprojection trick to double the framerate. Oculus calls this timewarp or something. Is this still worth considering, and how do you experience this feature for less powerful pc's?
What are the connectors? I have the RTX 2080Ti and when it came out it was said VR would benefit from it's USB Type-C connector yet I've never seen a VR headset with it. I can see it would be better for power maybe for higher hertz headsets but don't remember what it was actually meant to improve.

I currently have an HTC Vive and actually laughed when I looked and found that the resolution is just about half of the half-resolution of the G2. Wow. I have Index Controllers paired with my Vive. I don't think I can afford a Reverb G2 but I'd really like some better clarity. Can I pair my Index controllers with a Samsung Odyssey+? If so, would you recommended getting that to use with simulators? I'm planning on upgrading my PC, including graphics card, but I don't think I can afford the $850 CAD for the Reverb G2. I guess I don't know how to set resolution of my HMD. Do you just adjust the SuperSampling in Steam VR? If I set it to default to 100% is it running at 100% resolution and 50% is half? I thought it didn't actually adjust resolution for just text clarity...
So, I have a founders edition GTX 1080Ti. How do you think it will fair? Also have an i5 6600k and 16gigs of ram, although I do intend on updating the CPU soon enough as I'm feeling it is a bottleneck for a few other demanding titles.

I can run MSFS at 115% open XR resolution (much more than full res) and have the Sim settings between medium to high. It is butter smooth and I'm so glad I took the risk. It is way beyond worth it and blows oculus quest 2 away with the clarity and smoothness of the Sim. I'm incredibly stoked. The new s10 and NVIDIA updates are a real game changer with DLSS set to balanced I'm getting mostly solid 30fps and 25fps in huge cities. What a time to be alive!

I'm thinking that with a 1080 I will be able to play some games full Res. And for more demanding ones being able to go half res will be essential

How do you set the "half resolution mode"? From WMR settings or SteamVR?
Not sure if I heard that in one of your videos before but is the half resolution mode (if thats like a „real“ mode to put in the g2 from the hp/microsoft software - or if thats just what you have to change the resolution to in the options in steam vr) limiting the fps of the g2 to 60fps? or is that just another option to take?
sry if my question is dumb or anything, just REALLY considering to preorder the g2 from amazon spain and want to be sure since I only got a 1070 that I am not stuck at 60fps even when the resolution is down to 50%

Thanks Sebastian this is the video I have been waiting to see. I have pre-ordered the G2 but currently running an RTX2060 with a Quest using link or Virtual Desktop. My biggest gripe is the SDE so really happy to see this dramatically reduced in the G2. I can can overclock the RTX2060 so will probably be able to run some games at full rez but I guess its gonna be try it and see but I will be content until I upgrade to a Rtx3080 later.

@@NICOMINDE well in 6 weeks I guess we will know lol. I think we will be lucky and be able to run some games like Alyx at full rez. But I will accept half rez if that's the way it turns out until I upgrade to a faster gpu. Fingers crossed!
If anyone has tried with overclocking, post it here. I have bought my PC a year ago with rtx 2060 and can't upgrade the GPU. Now would be gutted to see if I can't play Alyx in full res as the reason I bought the G2.
If Alyx will support Dlss 2.1(it's works with VR), then there will be no problem to play Alyx on full res. Just have a look, what dlss 2.0 make with game "Control". The game gains even 100% more FPS!
Bought one, returned 2 days later. Sweet spot the size of a half dollar, all text outside that are very blurry. Rift S more consistent in clarity across the screen. Vibration on controllers is loud and feels cheap not good at all. Bit of pressure point on my temple's not to bad but Rift S much more comfort. The cable is thick and very grippy so will pull on you. When you first start up a lot of ghosting effects until it heats up, and screen door until it warms up. 10 mins or so then gone. If you want to surf the web you can not scroll with the controllers. You will have to use a mouse as well. Wanna type in search bar, your gonna need to lift up headset and use physical keyboard. Tried playing Pavlov you can not use 2 hands on weapons. Right hand will grip but left hand does not grip the weapon. So I'm guessing custom mapping is needed. Have heard this is the case on many other games. Cant hit anything with only 1 hand on a machinegun. God rays are very noticeable on the G2 V2, my Rift S never really noticed them. I purchased on sale for 499 but still not worth that. maybe $350. In games the sweet spot is not as bad, you really don't see it much but, on anything else you can only read 2 words and then left and right of those 2 words are blurry and the next ones very blurry. I wanted to love this but I'm going back to Rift S. Controllers hit when reloading weapons. I really believe the Rift S or Quest 2 are much better at software, easy of use, you can just play and even the screens have much bigger sweet spot. I think if you are sim racing its a great choice the sweet spot not as bad. Sim flying your gonna have to turn your head a lot to see the gauges clearly. I'd wait. The only thing it has going for it is sound and the very small sweet spot. Just my experience. Imma keep my rift s until something better comes along.

I was looking at an Index... but after seeing the subreddit ehhhh no... lol. Some serious customer service issues it seems.
I have a Rift S, got it about 2 weeks ago and a new rig 4 days ago, got my wife the 256gb Quest 2 with Elite Headstrap and it bugged out her eyes and gave her headaches. So i'm sitting on a pile of cash now and seriously considering this headset.
Her Quest 2 was my first VR experience and while it definitely blew me away to be IN the game, it was everything i hoped and more being a kid of the 80's and seeing all the movies/sci fi promising this tech seemingly way after my time... i loved it so much i instantly knew i needed to get a sharper image and higher FoV asap. I COULD wait for the new headsets to roll out next year or whatever but... yeah idk. When i play on Rift S it feels a lot better than the Quest 2 in both terms of comfort and clarity (though i never tried hooking Quest up to a PC)
But it still feels like i'm in a box, the FoV is just really limited, when i learned that the FoV gets much larger on the more expensive headsets i was pretty much sold on something new. This looks like a smarter buy than the Index, even at half resolution which is what i'll be stuck with for now seeing as i only have a RTX2060. Now i wish i could have sprung for the better card. Oh well.
I wonder if NVIDIA will create a dedicated DLSS for VR. Combine that with depth aware motion smoothing and it could push things a lot further or even enable Ray Tracing in VR.

Man I've been waiting since November for an RTX 3080, It's now Feb 20th 2021 and still out of stock, and luckily I sniped an HP reverb G2 which I was also waiting on for months, so can't wait to fire it up on my gtx 1070, and hopefully I get to experience full res once the 3080 becomes available!

You think you can test FOV clarity? Where does the clarity drop off compared to FOV?
that depends on how close you can get your eyeball to the lenses..
@@JonahHax yeah, and that also depends on your own head form. So it is difficult to say here somethng, that is correct for everyone. Even that FoV things he already does shows only how it is for himself. It can already be different for me, even when i have the same IPD than he have (64mm).
This is very gut to know, I have a 1080, but even on the Rift s I only get around 60FPS on some games, and It could be the end of the year before I can get my hands on one of those next-gen cards.
Can you take through the lens footage of Xplane11 looking at the scenery in flight? For us waiting for FS2020 this will be a good preview.

This is super useful information! Do you have any data on the performance impact/improvement on the GPU (and also CPU) when using full vs half-resolution modes? How big of an FPS (or really frame times) difference is there?
Could you also do some comparison to the Samsung Odyssey+ at 150% or 200% SuperSampling? How does that compare to the Reverb G2 at half and full resolution as well as the performance impact on the system? I'm just curious if the visuals on the Samsung at 150% might be comparable or even better than the G2 at half-resolution or full-resolution since the Samsung is an OLED, has the anti-SDE filter, a wide FOV, and will be running at a higher resolution when at 150% or higher SS. The Samsung does lack the RGB sub-pixels so I feel like it would be an interesting comparison just in terms of visuals!
It would be great to see a through the lens video of G2 at full resolution with max functional/capable SS compared to the Index set at 90hz with max functional/capable SS. Max functional/capable SS meaning NOT hitting any reprojection

But do not forget: your graphic card must have a DisplayPort version at lest of 1.3. DP 1.2 will not work with the G2. Someone already asked for DP1.2.
Even with half resolution, that is only the internal resolution, but the output resolution is still 2160 x 2160 pixels and for that amount of data you need DP1.3+.

can we get a black levels and colours comparison between gen 1 wmr (such as lenovo explorer) and the hp reverb g2? night stuff, like scary games and night rally in sim racing dont work very well with my headset. everything is just too hard to see. the screens dont go dark enough. bright screens with no detail etc. im hoping the reverb g2 is a lot better for that sort of thing?

It means that it's not worth buying the HP for its better resolution compared to the Meta Quest 2, because it will not have this better resolution and only the half?

you can set the resolution as you wish in the SteamVR settings, from 20% to 300% or something like that

The G2 at half resolution still looks better than the Rift S? Wow!
The rift s resolution is 2.25 times lower than the reverbs resolution, so you should still see a 25% increase at half res because half of 4320x2160 is more than 2560x1440. Not to mention that since it fits perfectly into the original resolution it should look good and you still get the benefit of very minimized SDE.
Rift-S at 100% anyway. Rift at 200% will look much better than half res.
@@pyroth309 you will need a really good gpu to do that, and you would still have screen door effect.
pyroth309 i very highly doubt that the rift could look better than any current gen vr headset with only supersampling. You underestimate just how low the resolution on those headsets are
@@queenbiscuit311 All I said is it would look better than half res, which it would. Rift S already has better text legibility than Index despite having a lower resolution. It has more pixels in the center. But Reverb G2 will definitely look better at full resolution and beyond.

I gues you have 16 GB of ram...
1) Rift S - dont buy it. Not supported by oculus anymore. New games will not run properly. My personal experience with RIFT S is that it is not good for sim (to low res; objects in front of you are blurry, cars 100m in front of you looks like in grant turismo 2) and it disapointed me with many errors (black screen, USB power limitation...)
2)You should choose between G2 or Q2. It is hard recomend because i heve never tried those two. My guess...
a) Will you buy new powerful laptop / PC with hiend GPU soon? take G2. One of the best VR headset for sim players.
b)Will you stick with that laptop? take quest 2 (mobile RTX 3060 6GB - cant run 100% res g2, not even Q2 in my opinion), you save some money and you will have standalone VR with better tracking. Just dont expect miracles. VR is more performance demanding than 4K...
3)Ask the comunity of the game you want to play what do they think before you buy it.
If you bought your VR already let me know how does it work? I am looking for some VR too.

@MRTV Sebastian, could you do a comparison of image clarity between Reverb G2 and Pimax 8K X? In particular for reading gauges in aircraft and seeing distant scenery and objects. SweViver has through the lens video that makes it look like 8K X is better clarity than Reverb (G1), but an overseas friend of mine who has both says that Reverb still has noticeably better image clarity for reading gauges and such. A 1070 was the minimum requirement of the Rift (S). Even at half resolution the G2 has many more pixels than the Rift, so you can savely assume that a 1070 isn't enough to power a G2.

So ive had the HP REVERB for 0ver 6 months now and its never been out of its box because i just can't get an RTX 3080 which ive been told is the best card for this headset, can you recommend an AMD Card that will run this Headset as good as the 3080 ?
Hp or windows would be bonkers if there wasn't a "fixed foveated rendering" option where the middle 15%-30% was rendered at full and the rest at half resolution.

Sir have you tried the VR Performance toolkit V0.2.2? It seems to vastly improve performance and perceived resolution in windows vr headsets. I use the gtx1080 with the Samsung Audessey+ and it's helped quite a bit.
I have a 1070 and was worried I wouldnt be able to use the Reverb, however if it does work out well even in Half-Res I should still have a good experience should I decide to get one.
I just bought. I have a 1070 too but crossed fingers hoped it would cope somewhat until 3000 seeies launches. Half res is a blessing. Wonder if it does do full res with the lower gpus?
Since one year ago I have the G1, and the same GPU, and I don't have any problems. Don't forget you can play bellow ultra if you see problems. As usual in fact. But I'm near Ultra with Alyx.

I've preordered the G2 and super excited, but should I keep or sell the Odyssey+? How does the G2 at half resolution compare? Would I be better just using the G2 at half resolution instead? I know you're a big fan of the Odyssey+!

What is half resolution in terms of render tagret resolution in SteamVR? What is 1.0x resolution in SteamVR? "half-res" could mean either 1.44x less x and z resolution or 2x less in each direction, so it isn't really straightforward. The target resolution is really important, if the barrel distortion correction is the same as with Index, we have 3k x 3k each eye render frame, if it's like G1 it's 2208 x 2160, it's a massive difference.

Is it possible to do combinations of Half res and 60Hz mode? I would prefer doing full res and 60Hz if my GPU can't do full res with 90fps.
i think i figured it out. Keep my base stations and wands for downstairs (more space) buy the g2 to replace my og vive and use it upstairs in the sim rig. This way i could cover two scenarios by using g2 with vive wands. But its more expensive than index and has lower fov......im lost.

Hello MRTV, great videos. Can you please comment on the black levels in very dark scenes, such as The Forest at night, dark caves in Skyrim, horror games, Saints and Sinners, etc? I just got an Index this week finally and love it, but I am a huge horror fan and all of my favorite horror games look terrible. I don't get scared anymore, it is just a gray, washed out mess. Everything else has been amazing on the Index, and the jump in resolution from the OG Vive is great! But with these blacks, I am concerned, if the G2 has far better blacks then I want to consider returning the Index and getting the G2. Blacks are that important to me. However, if you feel they are just slightly better, or similar, then I won't bother. I know they are both LCD panels, so I assume it is similar... but what are your thoughts on this? Thank you very much.
A VR headset at half rez certainly makes more sense than getting a 4K display and then game in 1080p on it, but only if you are bothered by SDE. Otherwise I would say upgradi g GPU first makes more sense, a used 1080ti is at a good price/performance ratio

Nice video! I used the reverb g1 with my gtx 970 at full resolution. I believe steam or WMR can do a reprojection trick to double the framerate. Oculus calls this timewarp or something. Is this still worth considering, and how do you experience this feature for less powerful pc's?
What this does is it halves your frame rate and then digitally interpolates your frames
What are the connectors? I have the RTX 2080Ti and when it came out it was said VR would benefit from it's USB Type-C connector yet I've never seen a VR headset with it. I can see it would be better for power maybe for higher hertz headsets but don't remember what it was actually meant to improve.

I currently have an HTC Vive and actually laughed when I looked and found that the resolution is just about half of the half-resolution of the G2. Wow.
I have Index Controllers paired with my Vive. I don't think I can afford a Reverb G2 but I'd really like some better clarity. Can I pair my Index controllers with a Samsung Odyssey+? If so, would you recommended getting that to use with simulators? I'm planning on upgrading my PC, including graphics card, but I don't think I can afford the $850 CAD for the Reverb G2. I guess I don't know how to set resolution of my HMD. Do you just adjust the SuperSampling in Steam VR? If I set it to default to 100% is it running at 100% resolution and 50% is half? I thought it didn't actually adjust resolution for just text clarity...

Socks VR even if it did nvlink/sli doesn’t work very well anymore because most games barely support it if at all.
