Received my g2 then realized that my pc only got a dp1.4 which is inside a type-c,tried to purchased HP's adapter but that didn't work at all, almost gaved up any hope and sells the g2. Tried the one you used in your vids and it works pretty smooth with 4k90hz, thank you so much.

I just purchased the HP G2 VR headset for DCS combat flight sim. I have a MSI RTX 3080 laptop but it doesn’t have a display adapter only a Type C graphics slot & a Type C USB port as well as 2 regular USB 3.0 ports! I’m hoping this adapter you mentioned will work with the Type C connector on the laptop. The Oculus Quest 2 headset works in that port very well but unfortunately the laptop doesn’t have the graphics card mini display port! You’d think these gaming laptops would come with that type of port since it says it’s VR ready! Thank you for your video I’m hoping it works for me as well. I love flying in VR

Question: My laptop has two USBC ports but one on opposite sides. Are the two wires long enough or spread out enough to reach to both sides of the laptop? (Razer Blade Pro 17 2080 Super Max Q)
Hello Tyriel! I have a Eluktronics Max-15 gaming laptop which uses a USB C to DP 1.4 port. Will the G2 work with it? I read from the G2 specs it is DP 1.3. I'm new to VR so thanks for the support.
Wow had to get extra adapters for both to fit in different type ports on the laptop. Well I guess it can be used for other things as well so only have to buy those adapters one time. By the way I love that Windows t-shirt you have on. Where did you get it?
This is great. Thanks for this. One question though. How can I tell if my usb type c has the display alternate mode? On the salespage where I bought it it says it has that protocol, but on the website of the producer I don't see it in the specs. How can I tell if I can use the displayport adapter and it will work?
I have a T15G Lenovo (2080 Super Max-q) with a StarTech USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter - 8K/5K/4K USB-C to DP 1.4 - HBR3. I have had no Joy. any one had luck with the T15G and an adaptor and G2. Thanks for the video :). Headset works perfect on my PC (2080 Video Card and only a 3700K processor).

I have a 2060 with all the same ports you have, but I suspect I would need to run the G2 at HALF resolution because my 2060 is just under minimum spec for G2 at FULL resolution. I can't afford a new system AND the G2, so its either go with G2 at HALF res, or go with another headset more compatible with my 2060 - probably the Quest 2.

What's the reasoning behind the USB extension cable not going over 6 feet? I ideally need a 10 ft extension cable although don't want to buy if not going to work properly.
The USB-C to DisplayPort adapter Tyriel recommends doesn't work with the Reverb G2. Or, to be more specific, it doesn't work on a 3070 in my ASUS laptop. Oh well.
If you have only USB type A ports on your computer, but are using the USBC to USBA adapter like shown, where does the cable from the power brick plug into?

I just got the g2 and I’m using the cable matters adapter, but I’m getting black screens in the headset, as well as white lines and dots and flickering. I tried the new firmware update and it didn’t help. Could it be an adapter issue?
Will connecting display port with an adapter into USBC thunderbolt 3 port on my laptop result in compression of the video data like it does on the Quest 2?
how well do you think the G2 this will work with a ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 4k version, it has an i9 10980HK Processor and RTX 2080 Super GPU. It lists the ports as 1 x Type-C USB 3.2 (Gen 2) Thunderbolt 3 with DP1.4⠀for charging 2 x Type-A USB 3.2 (Gen 1) 1 x Type-A USB 3.2 (Gen 2)
My laptop has a Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 3 USB-C with an RTX 2070 Max Q. What could I expect full res or half res? Thinking of changing my Quest 2 preorder for the G2 as I can keep my Quest 1 for wireless gaming and avoid Facebook. Will my specs be good enough to take full advantage of the G2 or should I stick with Quest 2? Please can you show the graphical difference between half and full res at minimum specs and comparison to Quest 2 through link/virtual desktop?
I have a mobile workstation asus ProArt and it have only hdmi 2.1 port and I can't find any way to run the Headset on it, I tried through thunderbolt usb C but same, appearantly they are not connected to the GPU, I am very desapointed of this. Do you have any fix for this issue because I can't find any adapter that works opposit from HDMO 2.1 to DP with high refresh rate :/
Oke, this is interesting. I was walking around in mediamarkt and looked at some gaming laptops. What do you think which problems are there with many gaming laptops? No DP port! Most have indeed USB-C but Reverb G2 needs DP port. And a lot gaming laptops have only HDMI port. That sucks a bit, it means we have not much choices and laptops with DP might more expensive (mostly only newest models) Only some brands like Clevo have another setup, and thanks to bigger case, it allowed more ports. Mine has even two DP ports. Why is DP port ignored? Newest VR headsets needs DP port.
3d time I write my comment and gets deleted for no reason !! I have a Proart studio book and it does have HDMI 2.1 and USB-c thunderbolt, I tried to use the adapter you suggested but it didn't work, seems like the USB-C should be connected internally directly to the GPU to work. I searched for any HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.4 adapter but there is nowhere. Only the the DP 1.4 to HDMI. any suggestion please ??
Oke, i have another laptop, made bij China compaby name "Clevo". For example i have sort of Clevo P650HS-G (mine is GTX1060) but pay attention at ports: 2x mini DP / 2x USB-C / 3x USB3.0 / 1x HDMI With plenty ports, this should no problem for G2, right? Problem the USB-C ports are at right side, the DP ports are at left side. This is not easy to connect it, so you need a extender cable to make it possible. Slimline gaming laptops have mostly too few ports. Clevo here is more thicker (4 drives possible!) so you have more room for more ports. So yeah, make sure you have enough / good ports for it when you want buy gaming laptop. Slimline / small gaming laptops = not always great.
I had the Reverb G1 for a while and tried to get it working with my zenbook pro duo, ordered a usb-c to displayport, it connected and worked smoothly for a few seconds, but then became unusably low in framerate - I thought the problem miight be the USB-c and hence DisplayPort not being directly connected to the graphics card. It was tough to find any displayport to usb-c adapters, maybe this one would work, will be interested to see the benchmarks
Thanks for that. Have one pre ordered and was wondering the other day if my laptop will connect up and run it if I want to take it with me to friends. trips etc. Im lucky in the fact my laptop has two type Cs and a mini dp, Just hoping the 8750H and full fat 1070gtx will be enough for a decent experience on most things when away from the desktop. Quick question for anyone that knows. Im presuming powering the headset through type c is going to reduce the power available for the laptop to run the GPU and CPU so using the extra power brick would be better anyway or is there usually sufficient headroom in bios power limits to not max out the power brick and run something like the headset? or have I just shown that I dont know much about electricity and power draw and the headset will have no effect on the power the laptop will have access to?
Hi thanks for the cool video, can you tell me if a USB-C 3.1 Female to HDMI Male Adapter, then into may hdmi input in my rtx 2070super ?,i have the model that has no inboard usb c,and i also fall into the category ,of people with amd motheboard problems ,G2 cannot connect !!!,maybe a possible workaround? Cheeers
I'm sure that will happen not so soon, because first there must be enough users that have a graphic card with HDMI 2.1 and that can take a while. DP1.4 is much longer supported, all cards since the NVidia GTX 1000 series support it and the most VR users had such cards. But it could also happen, that instead of HDMI 2.1 DP 2.0 is used.
Anyone have luck using this headset with the latest generation RTX 3080 Razer Blade laptop? I'm upset that the decide to omit the mini-displayport this time around! I am considering recommending this headset for my workplace...
Technical issues (said Valve, they want to sell a virtual link adapter for Valve Index and canceled it) and not widespread enough, e.g. there are no laptops with virtual link.
People have been asking MRTV for a long time to do an Index supersampled to 2k vs native G2. It would make them happy if you would do that. People want to see that more than the G2 running half resolution
I know this is an old video but I'm surprised that I can't get this to work with a modern Dell G15 5511 Gaming Laptop. I've used the USB-C to Type A adapter that was included in the box but I've bought two Displayport to USB-C adapters (one DP 1.2 4K and one DP 1.4 8K) and neither of them allow me to use the Reverb G2. I also have the power brick connected and have checked the Nvidia settings to make sure everything is using the discrete GPU by default.... All very odd :(

Did you get this sorted at all as I am buying an Asus TUF 15 which has no display port and I need an adapter to get it working. The one above isnt available in the UK.
@@westindiman it seems the display port/USB-C on the dell model wasn't directly routed to the gpu so that's where the problem came from. Dell confirmed this. Your ASUS might be OK though so worth checking with them directly.

Slimline gaming laptops have mostly too few ports. Clevo here is more thicker (4 drives possible!) so you have more room for more ports.
So yeah, make sure you have enough / good ports for it when you want buy gaming laptop.
Slimline / small gaming laptops = not always great.
Unrelated but is the headset cable removable?
It’s supposed to be replaceable...
will it work with the pimax crystal light? i have lenovo legion pro 7i i9 13900hx, rtx 4080 laptop, it has thunderbolt 4.
Did you manage to make it work? Im trying to set it up with my zenbook pro duo without success
Cheeers
I have the HP omen laptop.
It has a mini displayport and USB-C
😎
i dont have a usb c on my pc . have an rtx 2080 , how will i connect the reverb g2? my rift s connects via usb 3 and DP. pre ordered the g2 cant wait
No need. The reverb is the same as your rift s.
This is only for laptops since display port are rare.
How was it?
I wonder if we will get HDMI 2.1 enabled VR headsets, following the release of video cards with HDMI 2.1 ports.
How to u do u connect c port to graphic card
Thank you sir
Anyone have luck using this headset with the latest generation RTX 3080 Razer Blade laptop? I'm upset that the decide to omit the mini-displayport this time around! I am considering recommending this headset for my workplace...
Does the power-brick come with the Reverb G2?
I use my USB-C port for my games ssd and I don't have any display ports, does anyone have a suggestion of what I sould do?
Why does no headset ship with a single usb-c cable which supports virtual link?
It’s more expensive to manufacture
Technical issues (said Valve, they want to sell a virtual link adapter for Valve Index and canceled it) and not widespread enough, e.g. there are no laptops with virtual link.
People have been asking MRTV for a long time to do an Index supersampled to 2k vs native G2. It would make them happy if you would do that. People want to see that more than the G2 running half resolution
More resolution will always beat supersampling at image sharpness, screendoor effect and a wider viewing distance.
Blizado sure, but we want to see it.
It is just similar to the index or old vive, lote of cables.
Is anyone able to confirm this works? I got the 1-4 error with another cable matters adapter.
Can it run on Hp omen 15, 4800H ryzen 7, Rtx 2060 ?
Have anyone tried using an ASUS rog strix g15 to use the G2? I'm trying to figure out what the problem is with mine the comp wont detect the headset
why wouldnt you use a display port to hdmi adapter? no need for a display port to usb c adapter at all
Have you tried and can confirm this works?
Does anyone know if the G2 will connect to the MSI GF65 Thin Laptop. It has 2 USB type-C and two USB type -A ports along with HDMI port?
Please advise what adapter you used if you got sorted.
I have a msi gs75 (2080 super max-q, i9 10gen, 32gb ram) with thunderbolt, usb-c display port (i think 1.3) and usb-c to displayport 1.3 adapter. Will my setup work easy with the reverb gen 1?
Has anyone seen of they'll add a display port to mini dp adaptor? Cause my laptop has a mini display port
ANyone else watching TW's G2 video in 4K on a Reverb G1 on a 100ft wide Virtual Cinema Screen?? No? Just me?? ;-) ;-)
Can't wait for my pre-ordered G2 to arrive as it seems to fix all issues I had with the already great G1.
[EDIT] Prompted to make this post because despite having Magic Actions set to auto select the highest Res stream available, it selected 480p for this video and for a second I thought to myself, why did I think the image quality on a Virtual Cinema screen in the G1/G2 was good???......realises mistake and selects 4K stream......oh Yeah!! This is why!! The G2 is worth the money for Virtual Cinema alone is my point nevermind what HL:Alyx, MSFS2020 or Star Wars Squadrons is going to look like in it!!
ca1ib0s Yup, just you. Rest of us are watching on an actual 15m 8k Barco projected private screen. Aren’t we?
@@Shadow__133 Thats the Beauty of VR though isn't it. One can Flex about watching on a 100ft screen......that only cost you €500
ca1ib0s I know, Im a peasant too 😆. Eur 500? I paid $349 on my Quest, $649 on my G2.
@@Shadow__133 Sorry, €520 actually for my G1 in the Black Friday Sales last November. Paid €630 (incl. €18 shipping from Germany to Ireland) for my G2 Pre-order from Bestware.de. Hoping to get a few hundred euros back on the G1 from some Flight-simmer who wants a High Res VR Headset for MSFS2020 but doesn't want to pay the Post Pre-order G2 price of €725
ca1ib0s Doesn’t sound too bad now. Im waiting on my g2 as well. MS didn’t add any support for oculus for obvious (💰) reasons 😔.
Im stuck i have no idea if my laptop will work for vr. for everonr i have a dell inspiron 7506 2n1 laptop. if anyone knows if it works or not pls let me know. thank you.
Pre-orders have just been delayed to October 🙃
Shiet where'd you see that?
Bruh
@@LegacyLoot I also had an email from System Active, HP's UK partner, saying this.
Are you sure that's something affected by everyone and not just a certain country and / or later pre-orders due to not enough initial stock?
That's not a delay, the official release date from HP has only ever been autumn/fall, which runs from September 22nd to December 21st. October, which is the date SystemActive and a few others have announced (but still not confirmed by HP), is right in the middle of the original release window.
I ordered an oculus quest but I got scammed:( no money back and no quest
My laptop has an rtx 2060 and mini dp1.4 good for half res?
With type c
@@romeucapelasa even full res in some titles
I've had email this morning from hp saying a USB adaptor will come with headset
You are the first person I am aware of who tries to run a VR headset on a laptop.,. Kudos for being so adventerous :-)
Many people play on a laptop. I did for over a year.
@@penn2093 Yeah but driving 2 4k displays with a laptop sounds insane to me...
NONONONOONNONONONONOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I GOT A MINI DISPLAY PORT ENTRY
having a mini display port entry means I'm fine right?
found out that I have a usb type c port and a mini display port I think I'm safe, now I have to deal with the temperatures
