Pras, feat. Mýa and Ol' Dirty Bastard, sampled Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's 1983 song "Islands in the Stream" for the 1998 hit "Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)". The song's chorus uses the basic chord structure and melody from "Islands in the Stream." The Bee Gees, Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, are also credited as songwriters on "Ghetto Supastar" because of this interpolation. Masters of Ceremony sampled the hook/riff of "Islands in the Stream" for the 1988 song "Sexy." Capone-N-Noreaga sampled the vocals/lyrics of "Islands in the Stream for the 2000 song "Full Steezy." Karen Harding, Future Kings and L'Tric sampled the vocals/lyrics of "Islands in the Stream" for the 2020 song "Rely." The information is from google and whosampled.
BeeGees are amazing.... Barry's ability to do this incredible. All of the songs written for others have the BeeGees sound. You know that vibe....love Kenny and Dolly and the BeeGees ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
If you're wondering, the "excuse me, Kenny" was because she accidentally stepped on his foot. You can see in the frames just prior how she's getting very close to it. But I love that she felt the need to apologize in the moment. She's so genuine.
And as a minor note that removes the claims that some people say some of these performances were lip-synced to a pre-recorded track...... Just like how in a couple of the Journey Live videos of "Don't Stop Believing" Steve Perry changes up the city to where they are performing.....
This song was written by The BeeGee"s for Kenny. Kenny thought it should be a duet and when asked who he would like to have sing this song with him he said Dolly. Dolly and Kenny were great friend's. There have been other's that have sang it even The BeeGee's but for me this is Dolly and Kenny's song.
Written by the Bee Gees and performed during their medley 1989 in Melbourne and other concerts ❤ Dolly does a beautiful duet with Barry Gibb on Greenfields 2021 album of Words❤
The hook on this was used in "Ghetto Superstar". Kenny and Dolly are so good together. Check out these duets of theirs: " You Can't Make Old Friends". "We've Got Tonight". Also check out Kenny and Lionel Richie duet of Lady. ( video from live concert done some 30 yrs. after Lady was released. Watch entire video because at the beginning Kenny tells the story of how the song was written....its humorous and you'll see they great friendship these 2 have) Its wonderful to see you discover these older artists and songs and the joy they bring you.
Dolly and Kenny have been the greatest of friends for many, many years up until he passed away. When Dolly said, "Excuse me Kenny," he stepped on her foot. 😁
I believe it was Dolly stepping on Kenny's foot...not the other way around. There wouldn't seem to be any reason for HER to apologize, if he had stepped on HER foot.
I love these two singing this song so much, I wish I could have it played at my funeral so my mourners would play it to remember me by. Am I being morbid !?🤔 Great reaction. 😊👍🏾
You've heard it or you have lived under a rock. It was on the radio, over intercoms in stores etc everywhere. LOL . For another cool duet, check out the one they did before Kenny passed away, called 'You can't make old friends'. Sooooo good. Dolly has a fun one called '9 to 5' too & acted in a movie of the same name, with Jane Fonda & Lilu Tomlin. Fun movie.
Talk about a fantastic concert....we saw them 3 times. Always marvelous together. They both have a great sense of humor yhat comes through whenever they were together.

Kenny and Dolly did a few songs together. They also did a bunch of Christmas specials each year that were special TV events and really propelling them into mainstream and making them household names. When I was a small child, I thought they were married as their chemistry was so great. Their original Christmas songs were fun too. We still watch old specials on youtube during the holiday season.
Why was this song so important? Because, it was written by The Bee Gees… why, because they were through…they were over. A few years before this they on the charts with the disco revolution. The macho guys got tired of disco. Mad at disco. Disco had been played at all of the sports backdrops for the games as sportsmen scored or something fantastic had happened. The Mack sportsmen got mad at the repetition and of the airplay had peaked. The sportsman started “Booing” and it never stopped. Meanwhile The Bee Gees we’re in Miami at their studio making who knows what number album. Theupir history was starting out Barry at 14 and the twins not even teenagers in Australia’s moving with their music to England then on to America all the time on the billboard top 100. (Miami)John travolta I think was pais a three picture deal for 3,000,00dollars. That first movie was a musical dance movie. The musical director needed a soundtrack rack to the movie and dance music and songs. He called The Bee Gees write and produce the movie.they almost had their album through and disco had died remember the kings of disco. They released the movie with John travolta and The Bee Gees soundtrack. The movie Saturday Night Fever was one of the first “Bockbuster” in the age of VCr’s because the line for the movie continued for bocks at the entrance to the movie theater and people couldn’t get after hours of waiting. Sunddenly The Bee Gees we’re on the charts again. As many as about 5 songs on the charts at once moving up to number one. Dupisco was back. How do you think the macho guys felt now when they heard stayin alive? Then they flashed maybe for years. Then the guys got mad at The Bee Gees again. They were out,p. But The Bee Gees we’re producer and composers first for everybody behinds the scenes. The Mack guys didn’t know it but they were still listening to their songs by other artist and still number one songs. Islands in the stream not only was theirs but Kenny and dolly countries artist took the song made it over as a duet and crossed over country into pop with another number one hit by The Bee Gees. So now maybe 20 years later I can listen to a young macho reactor react to one of The Bee Gees song and you not bee geesong not blinded by any prejudice to hear a Bee Gees and know when you hear good music and good writing. What if The Bee Gees had given up disco died? What if they gave up after they themselves died again. But, they didn’t. I have never gotten tired of any of their music no matter if they sing it or dolly and Kenny sing it. Remember this was live and dolly steps on Kenny’s foot. I would have died on the spot. But dolly is a professional..she puts it into the the act. She came from the porter wagner show many decades already before this. When her time was he wouldn’t let her go. She went home and wrote I will always love you. She went in the next day and told him she was leaving but I wrote this song for you. He said I’ll let you go on one condition(?) ..you let me produce the album. He did. Elvis tried to get. To buy it. She said no. He wanted half of it. She said no. Kevin Costner got it for Whitney for bodyguard. Dolly heard it on the radio the first time in her car. She pulled over and started crying. She never knew it could be that big. Imagine hoe Elvis would have messed it up. Elvis colone Parker tried to cheat dolly. So by time this little song happened dolly was a seasoned professional.

Kenny and Dolly, always sounded great together like you said their voices blended together very well, i know you like song's with a good guitar riffs in them so i would like to request a song by Wild Cherry, called "PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC WHITE BOY" and please do the version from the Midnight Special show live. Kenny and Dolly became very close friends. They did a song together called "You Can't Make Old Friends". She was heartbroken when he passed away. Watch the video of the song - ua-cam.com/video/chBNBzE35EI/v-deo.html. It will bring a tear to your eye.
Dolly started doing live radio when she was 10 years old, she became so used to continuing on in a live performance situation, if she messes up, she laughs, jokes about it, and carries on, which has made her an amazing awards show host as well. She stepped on Kenny's foot which is why she said Excuse me Kenny.
Steven (or is it Stephen), you're spoiling me with 2 country in one week! I still say you need to check out Kenny doing "Coward of the County". Have a great week! I'm off to check out more of your videos.
Such amazing chemistry and no lip syncing. If you haven't done so check out Kenny with The First Edition, his early band (Don't take your love to town, Reuben James).
You mentioned the fact your mind is blown. Bachman Turner Overdrive did a song called Blown on their second album in 1973. The vocal on this one was done by Randy Bachmans brother Tim. The guitar work has a lot of almost country music sound. It's a very underrated track from that album as is his other track on thisxalbum titled , I Don't Have To Hide. Dolly did halftime at the Dallas cowboys game last Thanksgiving & she was wearing a Cowboys cheerleader outfit at age 78 & looked as good as those young gals. Check it out on UA-cam.
Love this duet! You can't wrong with Dolly, ever! And Kenny and his voice, is always fantastic. He did quite a few duets, with Sheena Easton, and others. Another phenomenal duet, Aretha Franklin & George Michael, "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)". I love that song, and Aretha is such a force. Thanks!
Try Kenny and Sheena Easton, We've Got Tonight. But, then Kenny couldn't do a bad Duet. They were long time friends, that never got physical. When she apologizes, she spiked his foot with her heels.
Really enjoyed this reaction. Agreed with all that was said. Some are here to divide us, we can’t let them. If you believe in “good” you are not alone.
In the early 80s, the Bee Gees were finding that their seminal 70s harmonies weren’t landing the way they used to, since disco was slowly dying. @@GrandmasGotGraceLW That’s wild that so many artists have covered it! 😳 I guess it’s smart for The Bee Gees to adapt and start writing more for other artists! This was a great performance by these 2 and I love their personalities! Dolly seems like the most genuine person ever!
If you want to hear a beautiful KENNY ROGERS song, react to him singing, BEAUTIFUL, ALL THAT YOU COULD BE. The video is Kenny singing to his son, Christopher, while their home movies play .
It is familiar as it was sampled as something or other superstar - does that ring a bell? Sorry I can’t remember details. Another reactor was surprised as he’d thought it was their original. This song is much older and was written by the BeeGees.
@@tobymax123 I've seen some of her songs with Miley, who is a self-professed Satanist. Dolly may have just been trying to relate to her goddaughter, but it was a little unsettling. IMO, you may have your own ...
Everybody says they've heard this - I think you mentioned that you're a fan of hip hop - could it be Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)? It was indeed sampled!

Ghetto Superstar was the song that sampled this.
Kenny got to the point where he hated the song in rehearsal. Stroke of brilliance by Barry Gibb who said, "We need Dolly Parton".
The Bee Gees wrote this have also recorded it. It sounds pretty close to some BeeGee hits so maybe that’s why it sound familiar

There are also almost as many listed covers, through the years, in other languages than English!!!
😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂🥰
@@GrandmasGotGraceLW That’s wild that so many artists have covered it! 😳 I guess it’s smart for The Bee Gees to adapt and start writing more for other artists! This was a great performance by these 2 and I love their personalities! Dolly seems like the most genuine person ever!
@@setonhillstudios I agree. 😀 She really is, too (still), which is why she and For King and Country hit it off so well together. 😊
Don't know if figured it out yet. Haven't watched the whole video. It's Ghetto Superstar (Pras feat. Ol' Dirty Bastard) that borrowed the melody.
Yesssss! 😎
PLEASE react to Dolly & Kenny singing 'We've Got Tonight' (live) - Dolly is HILARIOUS jokin with Kenny - You will not be disappointed!🤣
You should listen to Kenny and Lionel Richie sing Lady together. Absolutely fantastic!
If you want to hear a beautiful KENNY ROGERS song, react to him singing, BEAUTIFUL, ALL THAT YOU COULD BE. The video is Kenny singing to his son, Christopher, while their home movies play .
A little known fact about this song is that it was written by Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees.
All three of them put in at least their 2-cents for this one. 😀
Sheena Easton also sings it you may have heard that?
Did not know that
Maybe thinking of ghetto superstar 😊
🤛👊🤜
RAINBOW 'Mistreated' LIVE in Munich 1977!! MORE DIO!!
You probably heard the hiphop r&b remake called Ghetto Superstar by Mia.
It is familiar as it was sampled as something or other superstar - does that ring a bell? Sorry I can’t remember details. Another reactor was surprised as he’d thought it was their original. This song is much older and was written by the BeeGees.
You would like her version of “He’s Alive!” Check it out!
This song was written buy The Bee Gees own Barry Gibbons
What do you call Dolly Parton swimming doing the backstroke? Islands In The Stream! sorry... old joke from high school 🤣
Yes I remember that 😂
Why are Dolly's feet so small?
'Cuz nothing grows in the shade!
🤣😂🤣
Bumped into Dolly Parton yesterday. She was across the street.
@@EC-dz3fb Yes! that one too!
could it be that you recognize the writings of the BeeGees? They wrote it and also recorded it.
Stranger Things fan? Bob and Joyce danced to this song.
I loved Dolly back in the 70s & 80s. ❤️ She's changed now, but back then she had a pure & beautiful spirit.
I hear she still does so much for so many people! 🤷🏻♂️
How could anyone insinuate that she doesn’t have a pure and beautiful spirit now?
@@tobymax123 I've seen some of her songs with Miley, who is a self-professed Satanist. Dolly may have just been trying to relate to her goddaughter, but it was a little unsettling. IMO, you may have your own ...
The Bee Gee’s wrote this song
Everybody says they've heard this - I think you mentioned that you're a fan of hip hop - could it be Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)? It was indeed sampled!
That’s it!! Thanks! 😁
The BeeGees, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Megan Trainer all did covers of this song. Have a great day!
Bee Gees didn't cover it - they wrote it!
@@SVT293 Oh that's right! My bad, you'd think I would have known that.
If you haven't seen Dolly doing Jolene with Pentatonix then check that out.
