Who in 2020 is still watching Colombo? ME.... That is still one of the best detective shows on TV.
Sorry to bother you, For a birthday present last year I received the box set,all the seasons, just on more thing there on MeTV and cozi TV on the week end,
Me and my wife...great and timeless show
@@gregthanks4757 Oh that would be awesome. I need to look around for one.
car bow - Me. Still love watching them. He’s great.
🌞
Years ago I sent Peter Falk a fan letter and about two years later I got a lovely letter from him, hand written, apologising for taking so long to reply and saying it meant a lot to him. A lovely man and an absolute legend. These people are irreplaceable.
That's a precious story, Hilary. Peter Falk was one-of-a-kind....
@@jamescombs8316 Thank you. Yes he was unique and very genuine I think.
wow. As a token of your appreciation for Mr. Falk, could you please provide a link to the picture of your document? I would really appreciate seeing such an article. You are one lucky person!!!
wow great story
WOW !!!!! That is so EPIC !!!!
I'm so jealous right now.
The last scene in the car with Columbo pouring Donald Pleasance a glass of wine as a sign of his respect is one of the great moments of the whole series.
Robin Jackson what episode is this
OG Dad ... second episode of the third season aired in Oct 1973 “any old port in a storm”
James shugg appreciate 🤜🏿
One of my favorite episodes.
While it was great, it’s hard to sympathize with the killer when you remember he had his half-brother starve to death in an oven-of-a-tomb
Peter Falk always made a point of citing the people behind the scenes who made the program a success. You don't hear that very often. Classy.
And when other people do acknowledge other people, it's almost a dismissive blanket statement, "all the talented people" etc. Falke would go on, name names, and talks about specifics.
T Gargoyle so sexy x
The Donald Pleasence episode is one of my favorites. "The sixty-nine-cents-a-gallon Marino Brothers? They don't make wine! They don't even make good mouthwash!"
I always wanted Lt. Columbo to let Mr. Carsini go… Him and Abigail Mitchell.❤️ But I cant get enough of The Great Santini 🐰🎩✨

OMG YES!! The compassion
Any Old Port in The Storm is my most favorite Colombo episodes. Indeed Donald Pleasence is absolutely fabulous and the story is fabulously good
Mine two. Dawn's Early Light a very close second. McGoohan plays an equally fascinating character who's also sympathetic in ways--he also has high standards and believes in something with a kind of religious devotion--and it's also full of funny moments.
Sorina M43... tisn't 🤔
And the brilliant actress, Julie Harris, was perfect in this episode

Liquid filth !
Cool people, cool time. God I miss the 70's.
we all miss it!
I totally agree!
So much class back then...
@@PRHILL9696 Yup.
A time when interviewers and guests spoke at normal volume, instead of yelling, and were actually interested in what each other had to say.
may his soul rest in peace! unforgettable Peter Falk!
Lux eterna, beloved soul
❤️
Peter Falk, in Columbo, one of the greatest tv shows ever made.❤❤❤❤😂
I wish Columbo would "go on forever" too, Johnny. I have the Columbo set & I'm still watching it in 2020. It doesn't get any better than Peter Falk in that role, plus his great guest stars he ends up foiling. Great acting & great writing & a great series. There isn't anything better on T.V. today. Indeed, those were the "Golden Talent" years. Miss you, Peter Falk! Miss you too, Johnny Carson. 👍
How I wish Johnny was still on. Always made me laugh. Not like the jerks on late night now. 😬
This show 'The Tonight Show' and 'Columbo' were and still are epic symbols of high quality T.V. that was available back in the late 60's , through the 70's and some of the 80's for anyone who just paid attention, not have to pay for an expensive subscription... Great T.V. that had real meaning, artistic flair, brilliant actors and content....
My dad was exactly like the character Columbo. Now I just watch the replays and I feel like my father is still alive and with me. 💕😇💕
I do the same! ❤️
The Best!!!!! Greatnees!!!
It's Columbo, and not Colombo ...
The "Golden " years of TV...I cherish the memories of these shows as a teenager and treasure these actors that were so classy and real..!!
I miss my youth and the innocence of those years.
Absolutely. Me too.
peter falk was so right about Pleasence: he was indeed a fantastic actor, falk wasn't just trying to "sell" the episode.
Pleasence was a great actor.
First time i watched Donald Pleasence was in a 1975 television film called Count of Monte Cristo with Richard Chamberlain and Tony Curtis, I was 9 years old growing up in Cuba. Even though this was a made for tv film they showed it at the theaters in Cuba.
Back then watching movies was my escape route, i traveled the world going to the movies as a child.
@Here's Johnny definitely. Peter Falk was born to play Columbo
It was an excellent episode.Donald Pleasance was terrific in it. The scene in the restaurant where he loses his composure after sampling the drink "Liquid Filth!" He was such a terrific actor as was Peter Falk. Sadly missed talent
Just saw some clips of the character. Very impressive performance. Wasn't he at one point Blofeld?
@@oldenvye6432 yes
Ernst Stavro Blofeld from the James Bond series.
I miss those days. They just seemed decent and simple
westfield90 No internet. It destroyed the world.
They were simple , slow paced no hurry less worry, when Santa claus was real!
You can tell in the series, how much more natural the actors were. Also, not full of perfect girls in their twenties. What a superficial time we live in. I was born in 1976 and i love watching what the world was back then.I miss this authentic people I never met, remind me of my adored parents and grandfather who left this earth too soon.
Uncomplicated is the key
The word "seemed" is the key here.
Columbo always had the BEST GUEST STARS appearing on the show. It made the program so much fun to watch!
Class act, class actors
Not only did Columbo arrest Mr Spock but he arrested Captain Kirk twice. He's badass!
Yes, as there were Oskar Werner (!) Ruth Gordon, Gena Rowlands, Johnny Cash and so on...
When the current times are harsh and sad - with the COVID mess, that is constantly the case- I just tune into a Columbo show, and get mesmerized by the time, styles, and God bless him, good old Shaggy Dog Peter Falk, his shabby raincoat, funky car, and hound dog.
And by the way, he was very sexy in brown velour shirt and that mound of hair in this interview. Long gone, but definitely alive in our💓❣️
He always had that great head of hair!
Columbo was amazingly popular all over the world. Its quality crossed all borders and cultures.
I guess it still is!
Even as a kid, I loved Columbo. Easily one of the most fascinating characters to ever grace the small screen. "Any Old Port..." is Amazing, along with the incomparable Donald Pleasance. "A Stitch in Crime" (Leonard Nimoy)"Catch Me If You Can" (with Ruth Gordon) & "Double Exposure" (Robert Culp) are also beautifully acted. Just one more thing...RIP Peter Falk.
Indeed and sadly RIP all the other co-stars mentioned above
My favorite episode, hands down, is the one with the great Johnny Cash.
@@BobInKC1 "Swan Song".....I saw the light, I saw the light....
@@jamescombs8316 I think JC could have been a great actor. And Falk was never better.
Another great ending that was very similar. Was the Johnny Cash episode. it might have even been a bit more emotional.
"He hated things that were comercial" ...Poor Carsini, couldn't have lived in 2020.
His tribute to Donald Pleasence is really great. It's the most relevant information, when true artists recognize the real innovators.
As much as I loved Peter in Columbo my favorite role is the Grandfather in "The Princess Bride" Such a wonderful actor.
Great movie
In my opinion, "Any Old Port in the Storm" is not just one of the best episodes of Columbo, it's one of the greatest television episodes of any show. Can you imagine watching it for the first time in 1973? Falk wasn't exaggerating at all: I hope people in the audience watched it.
I've never seen that one but I have seen "Any Old Port in a Storm" and it's pretty good, too! 😉
In Britain they still show 5 episodes every Sunday. It's always a treat to watch a couple of them ! ' Any Port in a Storm' with Donald Pleasence is one of the best ever !
Sunday is columbo day, even if I have an episode recorded, will still watch it. A comfort for lazy Sundays!
Absolutely right. Sunday roast and Columbo. They’re the best ;)
Peter Falk was so down to earth and humble. What a lovely man!!!
He was my favourite television detetective. Pure Genius.
So even on a talk show, he leaves, and then comes back for one last thing. XD
Love him, just amazing show, still watching it, pure classic
Nice catch!
That was no artifice... he largely played himself on Columbo
Hilarious, that was his signature move wasn’t it. Thanks for pointing that one out. Laughed so hard when I replayed it
Humble, charismatic, talented and absolutely gorgeous, Peter had "it" and we shall not see his like again Xx
Quite a reminder of the never-repeated quality of Johnny Carson. The atmosphere, the quality of discussion, the humor. There has been nothing of this quality since he retired.
Well put.
Best interviewer ever because he listened.
Carson was great all the people doing talk shows since just dont cut it
This is of its time 🤷🏻♀️. Craig Ferguson was amazing. And, of course, (our own ) Graham Norton is very special indeed 🥰
The Tonight Show ended when Carson left. Leno & Fallon can't interview and would not recognize a sense of humor if they were run over by it. Conan did not have it long to see if he fit.
Troubled Waters
Murder Under Glass
Swan Song
Grand Deceptions
All epic classics
Smoking cigarettes on a talk show... Where have the years gone!!!
Yes smoking cigarettes on the part of both interviewer and the person he is interviewing would be a definite anachronism today.
This and Robert Vaugn on a cruise ship are my 2 favorite episodes.
Johnny is right...we all fell in love with Peter Falk! I still am.
Columbo was a ggod character, Played by a great actor! Humorous, clever, and as he said dignified.
Thanks for this! And let's not forget Falk as the CIA agent in "The In-laws". Probably one of my all time favorite comedies!!!
Serpentine Shel! Serpentine!
Serpentine! My thoughts exactly !!! Great movie
Immortal Peter Falk and Columbo... I keep watching them over and over...
The thing about Colombo - you see the murder happen!! Then the whole show you wonder how he’s going to figure it out! THAT is the magic my friends.
Watching this interview, you can see that he really cares about the characters and the overall production of Columbo. Notice how thoughtful his comments are, and how sincere his praise is for fellow actor Donald Pleasence. He even seems annoyed when interrupted by whatever is happening in the background (which I don't blame him for). He is as invested in Columbo as a writer would be! The character is obviously not just a paycheck to him.
Contrast this with most other interviews you see from actors on late night shows.
Because he was making an important point about the difference in his character being "meek" and "polite" and then, whatever. Nobody else gave a damn but at least he did.
@@i.p.knightly149
Like I said. I don't blame him.
Peter was intelligent, dedicated, and in this interview, sexy in that brown velour with all that hair of his!
one of my dearest and favorites tv shows when I was a teenager... damn what memories...
Non pretentious, wise and classy! I love you Falk/Columbo!!
The end of this with Johnny getting him to try on rain coats is like an episode of Colombo where the killer is trying to butter him up by trying to flatter him. I was expecting him to say, "Johnny, Ed, just one more thing."
The episode Peter’s talking about is here in YT somewhere, and is a stone-cold Classic Colombo episode, and well worth watching. Oh, and one more thing... Peter Falk was a superb actor, and a deeply lovely human being. RIP.
There's more of Colombo in Falk than meet's the eye!
Peter Falk was awesome!
His "Sam Diamond" was one of the funniest roles ever!
Man, they really liked the color brown those days :-) Thanks for the video.
It was the 70s ..... earth tones
How about Johnny's PLAID PANTS...big.. big ....fashion trend back then
It's nice to hear Donald Pleasance getting his due from another amazing actor. RIP both those two greats.
The character of Columbo always had a relative who did this or studied that, or experienced something. It was a way for the detective to lull the criminal into thinking that they were smarter.
The applause says it all, RIP Peter, RIP
Carson said it at the end of his life..."those damn cigarettes".
Columbo is a great fictional character, portrayed by a truly brilliant actor, which stands the test of time. And when interviewed, Peter Falk seems a lovely man. He was brilliant with Robert Mitchum in The Battle for Anzio.
Love Columbo .it came on while I was in college and I've seen it ever since .ironically any old port in a storm is still my favorite episode. Julie Harris had a pretty good role in this episode also
Eugene DeGeorge, did you notice Julie's hair changed so much, and inappropriately, in different parts of the episode? It would be mousy blond in one scene, and the very next one, it would be bright red. Then it would change again, back and forth. Like on the plane, it changed on the plane. I couldn't believe the editors didn't catch that.
“Just one more thing.”
“My wife thinks you’re terrific.”
I watch all the Columbo episodes over and over again. Coincidentally, "Any Old Port in the Storm" is my favorite episode with " A Stitch in Time" my second. Every episode is a masterpiece. Also, to think that Donald Pleasance is the psychiatrist in "Halloween". I think he is in No.2 and No.3 but those 2 movies don't make sense because Jason dissappears in thin air at the very end in the first Halloween movie. Peter Falk and Donald Pleasance were great.
I remember Donald Pleasance as Dr. Micheals in the movie Fanatic Voyage, that final seance with him getting eaten by a white blood cell still sticks in my mind.
Don’t forget Blofeld.
Jason was the presented as the boogeyman, a myth and spirit that never dies and keeps coming back to haunt and terrorize you.
Jason isn't in Halloween. That would be Micheal Myres. Donald Pleasance wasn't in the 3rd Halloween nor was Micheal Myres.
Sky Warp I stand corrected. Michael was meant to be the Boogeyman.
Columbo’s rain coat is now in the Smithsonian.....
It should forever.
Ian Stradian, he did get a new raincoat in one episode, I think a gift from his wife, but he hated it, and kept trying to lose it. Do you remember that?
He said in another interview “They say my raincoat is in the Smithsonian...Well, if my second story closet is named the Smithsonian, then I guess it’s in there!”😂 I don’t think he would donate it. It was his personal raincoat, but maybe after his death, they acquired it from his family?
Watched every episode ♥ columbo 👏 🎥 😍 ✌️ 🕉 🌸 🇮🇪
Back when television was worth watching.
I know!
Incredible set, locked in time.... and the smoking!!!
Yes,even though I was alive when this aired, I had completely forgotten how prevalent smoking was. One thing I don't miss!
Thank you to whoever posted this video. I never seen this. I was born in 76'.
"Any Old Port In A storm" is my favorite episode.👍😀🎥
Really liked this show when it was on. Peter Falk was perfect for the role
One of my favorite shows. And still watch it to this day!
I just watched an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour called, “The Bonfire,” starring, Peter Falk. It was great! Check it out.
Seen Peter Falk in the Bonfire you can catch it on youtube. He was a class actor then, pity he was a bady.
DONALD PLEASENCE!!!! great actor!!!!, I saw the Columbo show, "Any old Port in a Storm" wonderful segment of Columbo!!!!!
Absolutely agree ... Donald Pleasance was one of the greatest actors ever ... as was Peter Falk!!!
He's as unkempt in real life as he was playing Columbo. Shirt half untucked, belt buckle way off to the side, Beat up casual shoes on for the Johnny Carson show. Perfect.
I met lots of people from many different countries over the years -
almost all of them knew and loved Columbo!
Great man!! Inspiration for all of us!!
Thank you Peter Falk! You will always been remembered!!
Donald Pleasance..."The Great Escape"....
Columbo made the most hilarious appearance at Dean Martin’s Hollywood Roast of Frank Sinatra.
It’s here on UA-cam.
One of my favorite Columbo episodes was that one. Yeah, probably because of Donald Pleasance. Great actor that he was.
Columbo is still great in 2021!
i was hoping right at the end hed say “one more thing...”
He did @10:29 , almost forgot to take his box of smokes 😅

Paraphrasing from old memories: "Oh, eh, I don't mean to bother you, sir, just one more thing before I go..."
And "my wife loves you, she'd get a real kick when I tell her I met you"
А мне всегда начало нравилось " Пітер Фальк ....у ролі... Коломбо"... до сих пор тащусь от этого)))
My favorite TV show of all time! This interview was WONDERFUL! I had heard on various Columbo fan sites that "Any Old Port", was Peter's favorite episode... But to hear him talk about the episode and Donald Pleasance like thst, nearly brought tears to my eyes! Lol! Just great...
Wow!! A very young Peter Falk!! 👏 👏 👏
There is a movie called “Pressure point”, where he plays the young Doctor. I thought he never looked young.
March 12, 2020 ~ Love all those old Mystery Shows but His who done it was like this. We knew who But how did Columbo know it wasn't the perfect crime. It sticks right out there when you see them smoking on TV shows now don't it. Oh by the way, I'm 76. I remember. Chuckling
Donald Pleasance was a great actor and “Any old port in a storm” was a great Colombo episode. The winery in that episode is gone now, it was purchased and turned into a housing development.
I couldn't imagine anybody ever playing the part Columbo this man shoes just cannot be filled I will never ever watch a remake of Columbo I am forever his fan. He was born for that role he is Columbo
Is that a brown velvet shirt ? I love him already!!!
He's wearing a brown velour shirt and they are both puffing away. Lol
Great upload, thanks. One of my favorite Columbo episodes, great to see Peter talking about it with Johnny!
One of the many classics from those best early years. I have the full box set and can watch them 100 times over. The majority are done brilliantly.
Peter Falk , Great actor!
Johnny was joking around about the raincoat and that reminded me of this: There was one episode in which Columbo got a new raincoat: Mrs. Columbo bought it for him and it was blue. He didn't like it, so he kept trying to lose it/leave it behind, but people always brought it back!
I think the name of the episode was called, Now You See Him, with Jack Cassidy playing a magician. Bob Dishy was in it, too, playing a sergeant who was kind of a "sidekick" to Columbo in that episode.
One of my favorite episodes.
Oh I remember that one...he kept telling the guy ...just leave it in the car....put it in the car...
Murder By the Book is my favorite episode.
I saw him during the 70's a Roasting on a man they honored.
I am glad i grew upon a fun time.
Sad kids don't know what fun is or was.
Thank you for posting this.
PS Folks.
Johnny Carson was special too.
My parents allowed me to stay up watching him.
He was actually very handsome and talented he had oodles of charisma too I can still watch reruns with as much enthusiasm as the first time thank you Peter for your wonderful work making our lives a little bit more enjoyable God Bless you Sir I hope you’re resting well in heaven now you definitely deserve to and probably need a rest you will be sorely missed 😘✝️💞🤪💕🎚🙏🏻🤪
God, I miss not having Johnny Carson on at night.
*Adrian Carsini:* You're an Italian, aren't you?
*Columbo:* Uh, yes, sir, on both sides.
*Adrian Carsini:* Well, you should know about good wine. It goes with the heritage.
*Columbo:* Well, I guess I kind of messed up in that department. I'm gonna tell ya somethin' else - uh, I'm probably the only Italian in the world who can't sing either.
Loved watching Columbo as a kid, still do, this is a good interview.
I loved peter! He was the jewish johnny cash...
Any Old Port In A Storm was arguably the greatest Columbo episode, season 3 episode 2 aired in 1973, it appeared that Mr. Falk was quite fond of it as well 👍🏽
Peter Falk, There will never be another actor like you…..one more thing, I love you ❤️
Peter Falk was such humble guy. Every time he did a talk show, which he didn’t often do, he just talked up his co stars.
10:30 " ….oh, just one more thing.... I seem to have forgotten my …. (cigarette pack on Johnny's desk (?) ) "
"Whata way to beat the check. I'm uh have to remember that one." ...Lt. Columbo
In an age when actors focus on themselves it is very nice to see that Peter Falk recognizes others for their work and abilities. He seemed like a very down to earth, pleasant person, and I enjoy watching his programs! 😸
Who can dislike Columbo?
A absolutely excellent TV series.
Loved him in The In Laws
"When are you going to get a new raincoat?"
He never did. Still had it in 2003.
IMBD has episodes for free. So sad to see Falk and Carson smoking. Led to premature death of both
I did read a few years back that this was Peter Falk's favorite episode.
How many times in "Columbo" did that character, just as he turns to walk away from the perpetrator, do an abrupt about-face and quote that ever popular "oh, one more thing........."? If that was planned, the way he was about to exit the set here, to leave and turn around to pick up whatever that was on Carson's desk, it was a brilliant move! If it wasn't planned, well then Peter Falk truly WAS "Columbo"!!!
