I love this Channel Briefs us on new discoveries, suggestions on food intake and workout routine, and provides sources for us to read. It inspired me so much I am wanting to work in this field.
The majority of people could not care less about longevity. Why else would they have such terrible lifestyle regarding diet and excercise? They usually start to care about it, when its already too late.
@@pavolhorvath7850 Too true. I thought I ate a healthful diet until I found a lump. Between tests for cancer, I researched the topic, and "Forks Over Knives" convinced me to try a mostly WFPB diet. When I learned why others go pure plant based, I did just that. This was around the age of 50. Now that I am in my mid 60's I wish I had done it sooner.

I interact with young people who tell me they don't care if they die sooner so they can continue to eat what they want. That kind of thinking leads to smoking, and excessive alcohol use.
It would be interesting to know for how long the increase in FGF21 in the blood lasts after fasting. Say I would fast for 10 Days and then go back to regular eating. How long does it take for the FGF21 to go back to the regular level? Because if the levels would stay elevated for, say, several months, doing one longer fast once or twice a year may be worth it?

I would love to see a video on dry fasting vs water fasting, specific to autophagy as well as this hormone. I've heard that one day dry fasting is like 3 days water fasting. I have done 72 hours dry fasting, so I have to wonder if I got the results of 9 days of water fasting or not. I have been working up to that for a while, I'd be curious on ways to properly train yourself for intensive fasting

@@pavolhorvath7850 Well, caffeine is a natural pesticide made by the plant and present in milligrams amount ) in coffee/tea/cola/chocolate (micrograms amount on foods we eat in comparison) but you do what you want, peoples usually want to avoid pesticides, hence the hypocrisy.

@@laurieparis2203 Well I put lucky in quotation marks bc it's a very mixed blessing. As a male it's been a curse and the cause of a lot of low self-esteem in my teens and 20's. But it was nice to be able to eat a SAD diet and not worry about weight. Who knows what the cause is, could be this hormone could be something else. My brother is the same way.
Longevity benefits from low protein. It slows the metabolism; the one thing people seem to be desperate to speed up for some reason. I'll grant you that we can get low energy when we lower our protein, but if you've ever had unwanted growths start sprouting up when eating a high protein diet for muscle building, you'll know exactly why this is not a good idea later in life.
It's ironic bc the current recommendation is for seniors to increase their protein intake, due to decreased ability to digest and absorb it. Possibly what needs to be addressed instead is the inability to assimilate protein by boosting stomach acids and digestive enzymes? That's a little more complicated than boosting protein intake, though. 😔

You always dismiss fasting as unsustainable. But it's for a period of time, followed by re feeding then a long break before another cycle. It can be entirely sustainable, I think you're being dismissive and cynical of a potentially helpful tool.
The 'unsustainable' Dr G referred to in the video was fasting over 10 days with (as I understood it) virtually no food intake. That's a pretty big ask. Out of a hundred people, how many might be able to sustain that? One? For the other 99, it's unsustainable.
How are you defining sustain it? Able to do one cycle? Idk but I can, and I'd rather learn the science and decide on my level of will power after the fact. Not patronise us with a watered down version, that's easy to manage. A practice, Dr Gregor himself condemns when recommendations for exercise or diet are kept low,not because of the data, but what's thought possible by the sickly public.

A vegan plant based whole food low fat high fiber diet, I believe is what the research will show.
But then you have to look at who funded the study, and if the funding comes from pro-vegan groups, then the study is biased.

He didn't say that in the video. He said that ketogenic diets didn't boost FGF21. They are effective for losing weight, as are many other diets.

I think I am one of the "lucky" people that probably creates a ton of this hormone. I've always struggled to put on weight no matter what I eat.
Seems like an advantage in our world but you might be in trouble in a hunter-gatherer world where food is not guaranteed.
