Most of these levels have shortcuts or tricks(strategies) to make them easier. For example in the watermelon one, if you can find the right angle you can actually kick the watermelon all the way to the front of the dock from the cliff and completely skip the enamines. In the pachinko it is important to not use the nozzles and just mess around with where you stand on catapult and how much you hold the joystick forward and he will land in those slots perfectly. For the bottom slots you stand on catapult in center and don't touch the joystick and you should land on those bottom middle set of pins after which you can pretty easily reach the final 2 coins. The chuckster red coin one becomes kind of easy once you figure out the throwing is based on their direction to you then you can easily line it up while running into them to save time, that and you can just use the hover nozzle to reach most of the platforms. The best time saver in that level is when you go to get the two above the wire and platform at end of it is to jump straight to wire then turn bounce into first coin then use nozzle to fall into the second, then hover to final platform. I was actually able to finish that one with 12 seconds left. For yoshi fruit adventure and you can actually spray open the cage from like 3 platforms from top and just grab the rocket nozzle if you didn't get it on that attempt to get it easily. The rollercoaster balloon one the best way is to fire the rocket as fast as possible after collecting them since the more time you try to perfect the aim the roller-coaster will mess you up with all its turning and flipping. The lily pad one you can actually get the coins by hovering in between the sides but it is very difficult at first because of how low they are like you were saying. I usually make sure I get the first 5 then go back and get any ones I missed .Most of these are only hard your first playthrough since you don't know the best path through them yet, but once you realize the best strategies they become rather easy, well most of them anyway.
The Manta Storm I feel should be at least an honorable mention. Try spraying dozens of fast phantom tiny manta rays that emit electric goop without dying. It gets so out of control so fast, even with the one at a time strategy I struggle a lot with the smallest ones.
Nah that level is so easy that I play it all the time. Just use spin jump while spraying, hide under the huts (they can't reach you) or move to the beach. Love that level
@@clowntown5768 once they go into homing mode, they also get EXTREMELY susceptible to the "jump and repeatedly tap Stationary Spray in the air" move that just shotguns in front of you. It's a strong crowd control move even before then too, plus that move is great for quickly mopping up areas across the game, most notably in the Pianta Village mission and the Sirena Beach mission when the whole levels get painted. The sprinkler spin is overrated imo, it gets all directions, but has terrible coverage and a ton of wind-up/time investment. Shotgun takes whatever is in front of you and makes it not. Far superior.
That level was actually super easy for me...once I got over my decade-long terror of the manta ray after loading into that level when I was 8 and almost bursting into tears as a giant manta ray came for me and I madly hit pause to escape
For me: Red Coins in the Hotel is Medium also you Should replace it with Red coins on the Water. Why? Well you need to Collect 8 Red coins while riding these Bloopers avoiding Crashing into anything with 2 Minutes! Also if you mess up you need to start everything over Again! You can also miss the Shine and hit something and do that 'Fun' again!
On Yoshi’s fruit jump, the colour Yoshi is changes what platforms are created. If you eat the fruit from the palm tree at the side it makes the platforms go up and down instead. Makes the level much easier!
Was in Pianta village and fell off a mushroom underneath the level and I literally just fell through the death plane leading to me landing in a void, was able to walk around in pitch black nothing underneath the stage. This game is flawless lmao. Also a tip for the Pachinko level, you can actually get consistent depending on the inputs as you launch yourself, no control stick input after you jump will always put you in the center, left always puts you in the top left, right always close right, and using flood after no inputs puts you to the far right. To get the bottom coins just do a no input launch and then use fludd to hover to the bottom holes after landing on the center peg. Watch Andrew Orders vid on it for a better explanation but yeah
The villages underside always seemed like a weird choice for hardest shines to me. It was one of the shines I struggled with as a kid, but as an adult it became one of the easiest shines once you understand how it works. The pianta’s always throw you directly over their shoulder. Ex. you’re standing slightly to the right of them? They’ll launch you diagonally left. Once you understand that it’s just of matter of angles and timing. 2 key spots are the little and normal pianta’s at the start. The little one doesn’t send you far so you wanna get launched near the edge where as the large one the inverse is true. The final Pianta should be approached from his left at a straigh angle once he reaches the center of the platform in order to get as straight an angle as possible. Understanding this makes the shine much easier.
Tip! Lead the cataquacks towards those plants you spray in Gelato Beach, and when the run into the plant, they get stunned. Then just simply spray the entire plants and it launch the cataquacks in the air and kill them. This makes pushing the watermelon down way easier!
I've heard a lot about how painful the watermelon festival one is, but I got super lucky with it. After popping it by accident for the first time against a pole, I tried rolling it sideways down the hill, and it rolled down and landed perfectly onto the base of the dock. The pinna Park one was also difficult, but I somehow managed to get it on my second attempt.
I finally cleared Yoshi’s Fruit Adventure about an hour ago after struggling with it for days. Now I have the pleasure of playing through The Sand Bird is Born 😒
6:07 Fun fact, if you bring the enemies to the little green buds in the sand, stun them then spray the buds when they erupt they'll kill the enemies making the watermelon sprite 10x easier
I like how most of these are either the 8th stage, or a hidden extra stage. You don't have to complete them to beat the game. Then one of them is the last level. While some of these could have been designed better, I do think it show some thought on the devs part. They hid extra hard challenges in the game if you want to tackle them to prove your master.y
When it comes to the watermelon festival, the red quackers at the bottom near the watermelon judge can actually be removed completely by using the things you spray on the geound that launches sand castles up. Just have them follow you to it and it will launch them and remove them. I cant remember if you have to stun the quacker right before you launch them or not though
I think searching "how to reach Yoshi Island faster in Mario sunshine" Will help you. The video shows a massive shortcut that Is Easy to do (i got it in 2 attempts)
It’s only hard if you don’t time your jumps correctly when he starts to turn around. Once you get that figured out and know what to do to get the last red coin it’s a piece of cake. It’s also hard for people who are playing it for their first time. Just like with the watermelon festival level. It’s not very hard because you can kill the cataquacks to make your path much easier. Course people who are just beginning the game probably wouldn’t know that. Between the pachinko machine and the lily pad ride, I’m not sure which one I’d say is harder they’re both fairly difficult.
I just beat the game for the first time since first playing it when I was around 7-9 years old. I remember my sisters and I would play it for hours but neither of us could beat it or even come close to it. I'm 24 now and I can't say how good it felt to finally beat it. And watching this video definitely triggered me all over again. Lol
Couple tips/critiques: Watemelon festival: If e emies chase you, and you hover instead of jump into the ocean, they will continue chasing you into the water and will die when they hit it. Clearing the beach this way makes the level tedious but very easy. Pianta village secret coins: People often forget they can use flood at the start. You don't need to use the piantas except to reach the top platform. It's actually very easy when you remember that and get creative with flood, although the time limit is still tight. Yoshi's fruit: You can spray the barrier from a lower platform and skip having to use Yoshi for the final platforms. Makes it way way easier. Lillypad: Super tedious but if you miss a coin you can walk along the edge to return to start and get a new lilly pad. Takes forever but it works.
Yoshi’s juice changes effect on the fish depending on color. You’re supposed to eat the watermelon after you get off the first purple platform. Pink juice makes the platforms go up instead of horizontally, which makes it way easier to navigate.
10:16 you don't need to talk to any of these chucksters uou have a hover nozzle, use it dammn it, the only chuckster you need to talk to in this level is the yellow one
It’s so funny to me that I beat the Lilly pad ride as I watched the video and I was thinking that it was the hardest level ever, and when it came at the number one spot, I couldn’t agree more😂
An honorable mention would be collecting the red coins on that Sand Bird level. I spent many frustrating tries on that one. The euphoric feeling I felt when that stress finally left my body was amazing
12:29 I can't help but laugh hysterically at this part every time because it's so relatable. There was a time when I played this level when the durian fell off the platform and when I tried to get it back up, my kick for some reason caused the durian to bounce off the wall and the fruit machine until it eventually returned back up to the platform, but right as I kicked it toward the Yoshi egg, the durian despawned, taking away my moment of hope. I will always look back at frustrating moments like these and laugh profusely with how insufferable they were.
For the yoshi star in ricco harbour, usually I use the rocket nozzle to get ground pound for the fruits and to get up. Also, you can bring Yoshi to the chuckster further back and he'll throw you to the little island with the m graffiti on it. Platforming from there I found is easier, as you're close to the star. Once you're in range of Yoshi's spray, then of course the classic yoshi ditch lol
I was playing through Sunshine again for the first time in a while and noticed my last save was when I quit playing because of the yoshi fruit adventure level. This whole time I didn’t realize i could change the platform direction with different fruit 😅 personally after figuring it out I found the level to be so much easier.
I absolutely love this game, I probably 100% it on an annual basis and have gotten pretty good at most of the levels but I agree with nearly everything on the list! Lilypad and Corona Mountain are the only two levels I genuinely dislike doing, the latter one because of collecting the blue coins using the mudboat. Even the pachinko level I have figured out pretty well. Actually, the watermelon festival is also pretty painfull, lol. But if you know that you can use the dune buds to launch Cataquacks to their death it makes it easier. I might place the Yoshi Go Round Secret on the list in place of the Shell Secret, especially if you're doing a red coin hunt. It's a VERY strict time limit with a lot of possiblilites to completly screw up.
On Yoshi's Fruit Adventure, if you hold a continuous spray before the fish jump, the platform will always be leveled with the platform you're on. Also never try climbing all the way up, once you're high enough, just aim the fruit juice & shoot the cheeseblock from a distance.
18:59 A few days ago, I found out that you can indeed collect the leftover coins by hovering from the edges. You just need to hover at the right time and then grab the edge on the other side. Really, I found it more difficult to stay on the side without falling off.
When I saw that the lily pad lvl was number 1, I kinda disagreed bc the rollercoasters ballon lvl was the most hardest imo due to no reticle, but as soon as I saw the process of just GETTING to the lily pad lvl with Yoshi. Gave me PTSD of all of my attempts of getting to that warp pipe lmao that lily pad lvl deserves the #1 spot NINTENDO WHY
5:15 I actually did on my most recent playthrough, unintentionally rolling the watermelon down the hill, I was looking for it and suddenly realized that it was at the bridge, I was so happy to see that
Bro you know that if you eat the coconut in the left cliff after the first fish platform the platforms will go upside and the level is so easy after that
Another trick is when using yoshi in ricco harbor to get the shine on the platforms, you go to the left after the first fish takes you to the first platform. There is a tree that has another fruit and that fruit makes yoshi spray the fish with a different color. This color makes the fish platforms go up and down instead of horizontal
I completed the majority of Super Mario Sunshine and recognize each of these challenges. Not gonna lie. This game was so much fun to me, I never saw the game as difficult. I just thought I was dumb. I cheesed the pachinko machine, I LOVED the chucksters. I spent hours on the roller coaster level popping balloons, just for fun. I saw the Yoshi boat challenge as an achievement, and I managed to beat the Lily challenge in about 8 attempts. Funny enough, the Delfino Hotel, the Phoenix, the Melon, and the Inferno levels were the ones I thought were the most difficult. The Rico Harbor Durian was just plain annoying. As far as boat mechanics, oddly enough, I put a couple hours in practicing the boat mechanics in Noki bay, so I didn't find it too hard. I just really enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine. When you're young, you put a lot more time into things. I can't stand Super Mario 64's mechanics, and yet people say the exact same thing about that game.
I grew up playing Sunshine and I was in love with it. The tropical setting, the exploration. Isle Delfino was my perfect paradise. Even when on holiday in Greece I felt as if I was in a real-life Isle Delfino. I messed up a lot of levels but kept playing and figuring things out slowly. Never felt like wasting time or not doing enough with my life, which is what I now often feel when playing video games. I feel wistful thinking back how completely immersed I was playing it. As an adult, nothing seems to impress me this much anymore. Seen and done it all before. Critical, cynical, nothing seems that original. That childlike wonder, I miss it.
This game is amazing and for some levels I agree with on this list, but yoshi's fruit adventure has the coconut tree after the first trip on the purple block making him get vertical pink blocks. The other was pianta village secret red coins. using fludd instead of every chuckster makes the time limit better. Aside from me rambling amazing video!
I find that lily pad level to be poor game design. For starters, getting Yoshi there is mostly a waiting game, no fun. If you game over, you gotta do the Yoshi thing again. It’s the main reason why I say Sunshine is fun to play, but not worth going for 100%.
For the Watermelon Festival, you can get rid of beach cataquacks with the dune bud plants. And the higher level ones by hovering off the cliff edge which causes them to get stuck next to the edge.
The boat controls in the volcano are a bit dificult, but if you take it slow its ok. The only problem with the pachinko machine i had were waiding to slide down the slope. Lily pad is only dificult to get there. Once in there jump on the lilipad ride it to the end, then walk to the beginning using the borders nice and slow and start over. Just keep an eye on your water.
I remember I jumped off the lily pad and used the edges of the river to get the coins. Used flood to fly across the poison water. Took forever but I was just glad to be done with it
I think the part that frustrates me the most is that the game is so beautiful and the fun parts are easily the most fun in the series so when it is bad, the part of me that wants so hard to love it gets even angrier
Those Spikes in Corona mountain aren't technically instant death, they're a 3 hit kill but if you land on them before they go down it's pretty much instant death because you have no way to save yourself, it's possible to survive them but you gotta hope they go down just before get hit 3 times
I sometimes think about firing up my GameCube just to play this game again... Then this video reminded me of the torture I went through because of some of these levels.

@@olsonbryce777 I feel like that was very important info I didn't know about. Thanks
Far superior.
go out to the water
That level was actually super easy for me...once I got over my decade-long terror of the manta ray after loading into that level when I was 8 and almost bursting into tears as a giant manta ray came for me and I madly hit pause to escape
Concerning #4, I find it helps if you feed Yoshi a coconut from the tree near the steel platforms.
For me:
Red Coins in the Hotel is Medium also you Should replace it with Red coins on the Water. Why?
Well you need to Collect 8 Red coins while riding these Bloopers avoiding Crashing into anything with 2 Minutes! Also if you mess up you need to start everything over Again!
You can also miss the Shine and hit something and do that 'Fun' again!
Use the green one. It's actually too slow to kill you with a crash. Just hold up to increase speed when you need to jump for a coin.
On Yoshi’s fruit jump, the colour Yoshi is changes what platforms are created. If you eat the fruit from the palm tree at the side it makes the platforms go up and down instead. Makes the level much easier!
When a lilypad makes for a harder level then a literal mountain of lava
When you keep dying on a level over and over those clown honks at the end of the "too bad" music start sounding REAL disrespectful lol
FACTS, they knew what they were doing lol
This level made me get a PhD in Physics just to understand those angles and finish the level 💀
Not to mention you can sort of adjust the angle Mario is thrown at by moving the stick when he's in the air
Darn, Mario's cardiac arrest REALLY hit him hard when playing the minigames in Mario Sunshine
I think my fav thing about this game, is seeing the inspiration that Galaxy took from some level designs. Namely the secret levels
Tip! Lead the cataquacks towards those plants you spray in Gelato Beach, and when the run into the plant, they get stunned. Then just simply spray the entire plants and it launch the cataquacks in the air and kill them. This makes pushing the watermelon down way easier!
I love how manic you sounded during the chuckster section. Extremely warranted.
I’ve accomplished 4 of these so far. I’m not looking forward to completing the others
Would you believe me if I told you that the pachinko machine and lily pad mini game combined is easier than corona mountain for me?
I finally cleared Yoshi’s Fruit Adventure about an hour ago after struggling with it for days. Now I have the pleasure of playing through The Sand Bird is Born 😒
Ah, no!
I seem to remember finding The Goopy Inferno unnecessarily annoying.
the hardest level for me personally is actually the shells secret. I spent SO MUCH TIME on that level just trying to get to it
The chuckster one!! That one was honestly the worst imo. I started with 36 lives and lost them all and had to start again😩
whoever designed that roller coaster mission is going to hell I swear
You can beat it in 10 seconds…
@@JSwag_Reviewsyeah, If you delete the game..
6:07 Fun fact, if you bring the enemies to the little green buds in the sand, stun them then spray the buds when they erupt they'll kill the enemies making the watermelon sprite 10x easier
The funny thing is that I beat the watermelon festival on my first try
0:14 This is why the game DESPERATELY needs a remake.
Have u not heard of super mario 3D all stars?
I like how most of these are either the 8th stage, or a hidden extra stage. You don't have to complete them to beat the game. Then one of them is the last level. While some of these could have been designed better, I do think it show some thought on the devs part. They hid extra hard challenges in the game if you want to tackle them to prove your master.y
I think its the most accurate list I have seen so far
3:41 to 3:53 reminded me of old Nathaniel Bandy top tens for some reason
Surfing blobbers is the Mario's funeral
I don't think you even need to use the chucksters on the red coin variant
When it comes to the watermelon festival, the red quackers at the bottom near the watermelon judge can actually be removed completely by using the things you spray on the geound that launches sand castles up. Just have them follow you to it and it will launch them and remove them. I cant remember if you have to stun the quacker right before you launch them or not though
The way I’ve never even played the Lilypad level because it’s hard enough even getting the level available 💀
I think searching "how to reach Yoshi Island faster in Mario sunshine" Will help you.
The video shows a massive shortcut that Is Easy to do (i got it in 2 attempts)
I'll be honest, the rollercoaster level wasn't that bad.
Did you actually not know you can kill cataquacks by launching them with the dune buds?
Bruh imagine not getting the banana in Rico harbor to ride the platform way up instead of sideways. A lot of your gripes are skill issue
I definitely agree with this list! But I'd also include the Sand Bird level too! It took many tries to finish that one.
It’s actually pretty easy
Lol
Goopy inferno isn’t on this list? As a kid, that level was impossible 😭
Couple tips/critiques:
Watemelon festival: If e emies chase you, and you hover instead of jump into the ocean, they will continue chasing you into the water and will die when they hit it.
The green fruits are coconuts dude... it even says coconut with the fruit basket lady.
I don’t know how but I beat watermelon festival on my first try and pachinko on my third try
So many levels mentioned I just skipped because I like my sanity. I did try them a few times but I know when I must go
I love this game. The music on the non-fludd levels still strikes fear into my heart tho, lol.
Sunshine is the only Mario game that made me rage throughout the entire game
10:16 you don't need to talk to any of these chucksters
uou have a hover nozzle, use it dammn it, the only chuckster you need to talk to in this level is the yellow one
I had all but forgotten the Lily Pad level. Then I remembered it, and all of those frustrating memories came flooding back. 😭😭😭
That one is way too easy, I can give proof
@@Andrew-jk1mi I would like to see this proof
The Noki Bay secret shine wasn’t that bad in my opinion. It only took me a few tries.
I would honestly add Eely Mouth's Dentist to the list as well. I've ALWAYS struggled with that one!
5:15 I actually did on my most recent playthrough, unintentionally rolling the watermelon down the hill, I was looking for it and suddenly realized that it was at the bridge, I was so happy to see that
Pachinko Machine is Broken and nearly unbeatable
Oh yeah, The Lilypad is the Corona Mountain boat on steroids
The number 5 you can pass trought the platfoms using the Jetpack evading the pianta mechanic
Nice one, Bramble! I love super mario sunshine!
I was able to walk on the edges and hover though?
Bro you know that if you eat the coconut in the left cliff after the first fish platform the platforms will go upside and the level is so easy after that
I SOO get the chuckster ones, these were soo frustrating back in the day when I played it haha!
The "phoenix" is the Sand Bird and isn't that hard.
Definitely agree with all of these except for the balloon level, I remember having a lot of fun with that one
It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder if a hat in time and both it’s dlc was like a sequel to sunshine
That watermelon mission makes me so mad that my eyes feel like bursting.
I sometimes think about firing up my GameCube just to play this game again... Then this video reminded me of the torture I went through because of some of these levels.
I play this game every year on my gamecube so good
Yo you were getting real pissed making this video eh?
Just a bit lol
