How I BREAK 80 as a SHORT HITTER with 17 TIPS!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 вер 2024
- I give 17 tips that any golfer can use to break through their scoring barrier. I include key stats and strategies an average hitting golfer like myself can implement. This is coming from someone who bunts it down the fairway and can play reasonably well as an unathletic golfer.

After watching this video, my biggest takeaway is that I'm trying to swing way too hard, especially for my age and physical limitations. Thanks for helping my game and back.
Thank you for watching! I try to swing within myself. Glad it helped.
Man, this is the first time I've seen one of your videos, or even had it suggested. You're a good golfer, consistent and explain everything better than I've probably seen so far. As you play commentary is great, nice work man, keep grinding. You're making the climb👊
Thank you so much! All video ideas are appreciated. Welcome to my channel!
I feel the same way! Great video and thanks!
I think you could go with “Mr. Straight Hitter” as well. That takes a lot of pressure of the game for us club golfers. Great advice with this one, thank you.
Thank you so much. I'm hoping it helps everyone that watches!
I agree. Would love all your tips on hitting it so straight!!
@@midwest839 I'll work on it. Thank you for watching!
Indeed! So envious.
Love it, the typical golf youtuber doesn't talk about these sorts of things. You and Golf Sidekick have become my favorites. talking about simple tips and tricks to benefit the beginner (to low handicappers) game!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I do like Golf Sidekick also.
Your consistency is outstanding. I love how relaxed your swing is
Tune in to the tournament round that drops in an hour. Didn't hit it as straight but it was fun. Thank you for watching!
Just found your channel randomly and so glad i did. Your swing and ball striking is so pure
Welcome aboard! I have a lot of content coming! Thank you!
This is now my favorite golf channel on UA-cam! If you’re ever in Birmingham, Alabama, let’s hit the RTJ golf trail for a round.
Thank you so much! If I'm your way I will take you up on that!
Listening to you is like hearing myself talk to my higher handicap friends. So much basic wisdom here. Great video! I'm a former pga class a and I can't tell you how many times I've said everything you're saying here. I break 80 regularly and occasionally break 72. I'd love to play with you. Your swing looks really consistent. I can tell you've played some. Your trigger gives you away. 😂😂 First non professional yt channel I've subscribed to. Subbed!
Thank you so much. The trigger comment made me laugh! Thank you for that!
I don't really struggle to break 80, but it's always the back nine that puts me over the 160 mark.
😁
You’re wild bro 😂😂😂
Who wants a "Break 90" video?
it can never harm, espescially as you hit it more the distance of your average golfer. Shotscope has the average drive for a 15 hcap at about 230. (omitting outliers)
@@gtsgolf9410 I'm working on it! Thank you!
Break 90’would be Awesome!
@@johnapplegate4020 I shot it Sunday. It's on the way! Thank you for watching!
I definitely need a break 90 video!
More relatable golf from you about how far we actually hit the ball ,more please
@@arthurrytus7318 You got it!
Absolutely love your approach, your swing and your sharing of your mindset! I’m so glad that I found your channel! I only watched this video and I’m already inspired by your ability to break the game down! You’re a true asset to the game of golf, and I look forward to watching all of your videos/lessons/reviews! Great job! This is so valuable to many golfers, regardless of distances hit! I sent your link to my son this AM immediately after watching, you are that great! Thank you for great content!
Hi Ronald! Just checking to see if you're still watching. Thank you!
I've got to say your a really good teacher of this game. You just keep grinding away at each green. Good voice calm confident and extremely easy to listen to. Thanks a bunch for these tips. Your music is even good lol!
Kathryn, thank you so so much! I hope you stick around. Much more to come!
Excellent content. Swing within yourself and “keep the ball in play.” Great advice!
Yes! Thank you!
Course management takes time and patience. Thanks! Keep these type videos going!
You got it!
It does not matter so much how far you hit as long as you are straight and hit consistant directions/distances.
Very well played and very helpfull and true tipps.
Thank you so much!
What an easy unforced smooth swing you have brother. Just awesome.
Thank you David!
Brother, what a pleasure to see a good average player as yourself on UA-cam. I needed motivation for today as I’m about to play my first competitive round of golf today. You’re very inspiring. So much better watching a player that’s more like me than a pro trying to play like us. Nothing wrong with that but getting it from you is so much better. As an average 7 handicap player myself, I just want to say thank you for putting yourself out there for us. Keep it up & continue to be yourself. Awesome video.
Btw, those greens cheated you out of a much lower score. A new fan.
Yes. They have been fertilized for the winter. Can't wait until Spring! Thank you so much for the kind words!
7 handicap is not "average"!
just randomly found this video and love the thought process for each hole & shot,
Thank you for watching!
Getting down to around 80 or hopefully break 80 is my goal for this coming summer. So I'll be trying to put some of this advice I to action. Especially the course management parts. Not taking on tucked pins or clubbing up and not muscling a 9 instead of hitting an easy 8.
I'm hoping some of these tips help. Let me know if they do!
I love it when the UA-cam recommendations knock it out the park 🙌 that was great. Very inspired.
Thank you so much! I have a lot of content and much more coming. I hope you stick around!
Just subscribed. I learned as much from watching your calm demeanor and lovely, consistent swing tempo as from your awesome tips. Calmness is definitely something I need to work on. Keep up the great work. Thanks!
Thank you so much Jeffrey! I have an 18 hole video coming out today at Noon. I hope you can find the time to watch!
Great Key pt: got to get it in the fairway off the Tee. Dial it back for accuracy.
Thank you for watching!
Great video Mistah. We play in conditions like this 6-7 months of the year here in the UK. Props to you on a very straight and strategic game. Hollow tined greens = tough. The absolute key is keep it in play and keep those doubles off! YOU NAILED IT, great video
Thank you so much!!
@@mistahshorthitter new subscriber here. You have a great vibe on your videos and a lot of average golfers would do well to listen to you advice 👍🏻
@@thetone79 I appreciate your support. My interview will be posted tomorrow at Noon my time. Lot's of content to come!
If you’re consistently breaking 80, you’re at worst a 6 hc. You’re straight and consistent.
I was at best a 5 and at 70 today, I’m barely hanging on to a 7. My best drives carry 240 and I play my 7 to 140.
Great all around advice but I think the most important thing for us shorter hitters is to hone the short game… 50 yards in and bunkers and deep greenside rough.
I can’t reach 500 yards in two anymore and my eyes betray me on greens but I still get around in the 70’s on good days. A 7 handicapper averages 82 and usually shoots +/- 6 of his hc and it’s been years since I’ve gone under par but advice like yours will surely help folks in the 7 to 15 bracket.
Great video for those of us who can’t hit 190 yard 7 irons and 300 yard carry drives.
Fairways and greens!
PenguinGolf
Short game is very important. However, I believe the first thing is to get the ball in play off the tee. You have no chance of breaking 80 if you are hitting it out of bounds and in water hazards. Thank you for watching!
you break 80 because you have a fabulous swing, no matter how far you hit it
Thank you for the compliment!
This guy is a helluva golfer. Great swing, plays within himself, knows his yardages with his clubs and is straight as an arrow. The only things he needs to address is he jerks his puts and they go right. Love the video. Thanks for reinforcing ; play within yourself. We aren't 25 years old and can't knock the snot out of the ball any more, keep the ball in play and golf is a lot more enjoyable. Thanks for the reminders.
I wish that were true. Unfortunately, I miss putts right one day and left the next. Putting videos on the way. Also, unfortunately when I was 25 I couldn't hit the snot out of the ball. Actually, I have never been long off the tee. Thank you!
Maybe a Samm Puttlab and Quintech putter fitting to see related tendencies and having a digital tool for improvement could be in order.
I did the above approach and it severally helped my short game.
Like Brad Paxon says, "If you practice often play a blade putter, if you don't practice use a mallet".
This is why, through analysis of Sam/Quintech, I went back to my blade, for me. Easier to be accurate on Lag putting. Better feel.
Cheers

What a cracking video!!!! We are average golfers who need to see how to play the game from our perspective. This is our game we are not pros. No point watching formula one to learn how to drive a car!!!! Love all of this. Keep it up 💪
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it!
That's a nice swing! I played in a tournament years ago and got paired up with an older retired USCG captain who said something that has always stuck with me, he said there's more 300 yard drives lost in those bushes than ever made it to the fairway. Now I have more appreciation for all my straight drives than I do for the long ones.
Thank you so much!

Thank you so much John!
I just enjoy watching you golf. The tips are a bonus.
18 Hole tournament released tomorrow at Noon!
Awesome video. When I was stationed in N.C. I played with the 75 year old retired man. I was in my 20s and swinging out of my shoes. He says,” you sure it them far, it’s too bad you don’t know where they are going.” He was hitting his ball 150-175 straight as an arrow, putting for bird or par. AND KICKING MY BUTT! It is all about playing SMART
The best players do both but you have to play your best with what you are given. Thank you for watching!
Great tip for older player like me, landing dispersal, is quite a good tip to keep in mind. I definitely need that calmer percentage play!
Thank you!
Love this! First tip should be play the tees that match your handicap.
You are correct! Thank you for watching!
If I hit the ball like you do I know I could break into the 80's consistently. Your tempo and contact is money. New subscriber here.

I've probably learned more from that video than I have watching 100's and 100's of Video's by these coaching guru's., I.think my mistake is swinging for the fences every shot rather than swinging in a nice relaxed tempo, that was an excellent lesson in how to lower your scores. It does help you don't seem to miss the middle of the face often. :) I have watched a few videos of yours now and man, you never miss my much. That's another key to breaking 80 right there.
Another one is playing a course and tee box makers that suit your game. I am the first to admit I am shocking at playing links style courses but do very well on parkland and what I call American style courses. They suit my eye, my playing style so I tend to play better. And I know I'm short hitter 260 yards with a bit of run and 7-iron carry about 160 yards, so I don't play tee boxes that stretch the par 3's to over 200 yards, par 4's over 440 yards and total length over about 6,900 yards. With that mind, I can play well and score around par.
Playing the correct tees definitely help! Thank you!
If you think you're a short hitter, you're mistaken. If you actually do hit your 7 iron 160, you're a solid middle distance hitter.
I really enjoyed this video. Very good information! I suggest one other tip that has helped drop my hdcp., play the proper tees. I carry a 2.1 index, but I can't play a course over 7000 yards, just can't hit it far enough. Everyone needs to eject the ego and better scores will follow. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing!
Glad I found this - great video and great info! Love the approach and will definitely play with an easier swing next time out.
Thank you!
