- A man rescued a 6-year-old boy who was by himself in the middle of a river, and the entire heartbreaking ordeal was caught on his GoPro video.
On July 5, David Jones was fishing out on the St. Louis River in Duluth, fighting a sturgeon, when he saw a little boy stranded in the middle of the channel. The 6-year-old old, who was wearing a life jacket, was panicking and terrified.

The news starts saying that so and so would've died had a fisherman not saved him CPS starts poking around. Especially when we're talking about a small town up by Canada.

From what I was told about the full video is that the dad said he knew the child got separated from the sail boat but the dad didn’t know how to turn around… and his reaction to the man saving the boy was so odd. He acted like it wasn’t a big deal and was hoping someone would grab the kid. I believe he used the words “saved me the hassle” as if that’s all it was. I mean that kid was traumatized stuck in the middle of a cold river with strong currents and wind. That is straight up child neglect.
I hope there is an investigation -- if that was the father's reaction, something is terribly wrong.
That is what I figured, man I would have gone off on his father and told him, you DON'T LEAVE YOUR CHILD IN THE FREEZING COLD WATER, you CHECK first to make SURE that your child is SAFE BEFORE starting the boat I would have had the POLICE check the guy out and see if he was drinking and on drugs and also start an investigation and call CHILD SERVICES and have them watch the video because its BIZARRE and to me, he was WANTING to leave that child to DIE out in that water ! He needs to go to jail and have his child taken from him because if this is how he acts, he maybe BEATING and treating his child BADLY at home is my guess !

Dad is a drunk. Poor kid is already showing signs of mental trauma. Especially when the 911 issue comes up. A 6 year old should not respond that way. Hoping the community keeps an on on this child. I am shocked that the father wasn’t charged with abandoning his child! No responsible parent would leave a six year old child in the middle of a river, on a 57 degree day, and expect him to swim to shore. That was absolute abandonment! I’m stunned!
Well, it's not like he just "left" him in the water, he had a sailboat and he was pulling the kid or something. That would have been bad enough....but the water was near freezing.

Giving the parent excuses for the situation does not excuse the fact that he shouldn't of had the child in the water in the first place, especially if its cold out and didnt have the ability to retrieve the child. Dad should have jumped in as soon as the child drifted away, no go "boat cant go that way, oh well 🤷♂️". Poor parenting.

I agree that water was way to cold to be swimming in...The child losing the rope was a accident and normally pulled with a motor boat not a sail boat, but they often have engines to.... When doing wake boarding/surfing/skying kind of sports, someone should ALWAYS BE WATCHING THE PERSON GETTING PULLED....I do agree it is very poor parenting and should be investigated for unsafe settings for the water sports... I hope the child had a life vest on like the law requires from my understanding. I know being on a water craft needs a life vest, so I presume being pulled by a boat would need one to. Anyways it is only logical and safe to have one on....
@@jonathanbair523 I agree, I grew up on the water, on the Chesapeake Bay actually and we were on the boat any chance we got until it became unaffordable. If we were on the boat, or in the water, we had a life jacket on but the water temperature was adequate temperature also. The man is lucky the child was found and retrieved. If the kid went under, the dad may have never known what happened. It wouldn't have happened on our boat but unfortunately, not everyone follows the rules of the waterways, and doing so costs lives.

The way he talked to the kid was perfect, calming, reassuring, not panicking.
Little boy had probably 10-20 more minutes before going under. Freaking out how he was and it being cold, that man 100% saved this kids life

@@ReconM1Athe life vest is great at assisting them stay afloat but realistically what happens when you get too cold to even move, you end up drowning and aren’t able to fight against the water.

He should be charged with some crime -- anything from child abandonment to attempted murder. Whatever the DA's investigation turns up. At the very least CPS should take custody and protect this amazing young boy. The Hollywood ending would be for his rescuer to adopt him!

Let's see if I can stitch this incident together. The father and son are out on a boat, the child ends up in the water, he's hanging on to a robe attached to the boat, the child gets separated from the rope, the father doesn't notice this and therefore doesn't immediately pulls his son up out of the water. And somehow, someway the boat moves a distance away from the child. And the father has control of this boat. And then the father has some convoluted excuse not to come back and try to retrieve his son? Really. This seems really sketchy to me.
Also, why were that boy and the father out on the water, and how did the boy end up in 57° water? Did the police, even interview the father?
Also, take a hard look at the clothing the child was wearing. Then listen to the comments of the person at that house related to others that that drowned recently.
Also, the father gave a weird explanation as to why he did not come back to retrieve that child from that water.
Ok then.... why didn't the father get the authorities involved to save this child? The explanation seemed well rehearsed and logical just in case the child drowned.
Also, does the father have and insurance policy, on this child, especially related to accidental drowning.
This whole incident reeks, and is quite sad.

1. The boy lost his grip on the boat.
2. The air temperature, not the water temperature, was 57F, Lake Superior is right there, it can sometimes be cool on summer days, people up there are used to it.
3. He was swimming, you don't wear sweatshirts or coats to swim in. "recent drownings" Drownings? There was a single drowning the year before in early June, before that, someone drown after there vehicle went through the ice years before. People do drown in rivers, lakes, swimming pools all across the world, they're not limited to geography.
4. Weird excuse? Did you ever sail? You can't throw it "in reverse" it doesn't have a motor, and you can't sail upwind and against a current at the same time.
5. Good question, but we don't have the whole story either. The boy was wearing a vest PFD, maybe the father saw the kayak heading to pick up his son.
6. For insurance? You watch too much TV.
I taught my kids to swim beginning when they were old enough to walk, I would never dream of letting them swim off a sailboat or in a current at that age, even wearing a PFD. Even just sailing with kids on board, there are many extra safety precautions you must take and be prepared for, especially in the cold water of Lake Superior. The St. Louis is much warmer than the lake, but is a very dark stained lake from the red iron mineral runoff of the iron rich land there, not an good environment for young kids to be swimming in because of almost zero visibility.

I don't think it was. Because, the child was rescued far from the boat. Plus, according to the people that surrounded this child, on shore. He was cold and his lips were turning blue.

Someone of authority needs to answer why the father was not charged with a crime? ABSOLUTELY INSANE there are no charges against the father! This is not the 1st father in Northern Minnesota to put his very young child/children's lives in danger of drowned in the water, then claiming ignorance of the seriousness of the situation.

Yes, they need to check for prior abuse, custody or divorce issues and insurance or child support issues. All those things need to be investigated or ruled out. He definitely needs parenting classes and cognitive assessment, whether the dad was under any substance.

I can believe that THIS father was torturing his child as some sort of SICK swimming lesson.

Anyone else seen the full video? This definitely sounds fishy that it warrants an investigation. What kind of parent wouldn't look for their child?! The child looked afraid of his father when EMS showed up and it sounded like this wasn't the first time it happened either. The dad was more worried about the "hassle" than his child. The child could've suffered from hypothermia. At the end of the video the father commented that they may be seeing each other again. The paramedics we're giving him dirty looks like WTF? I hope the police investigate this further. Something is not right.

If my little boy got swept away in a current I'd be diving in there after him. If I somehow hadn't noticed and this had happened I would be so unbelievably thankful to the guy in the kayak and I'd be hugging the hell out of my little lad. I'd be so emotional, makes my stomach turn just thinking about something like that happening to my son and yet you look at this guy? Doesn't even speak to the kid, comes across as extremely guilty of something and is just acting very strange. In the full video I was like "that is the Dad right? He's not acting like a Dad at all but I'm sure that's him from what the kayaker is saying". There is genuinely a small part of me that thinks he let it happen and was gonna just blame the current. I wouldn't want this kid alone with that guy anyway, that's for sure.

First of all, how is a parent going to think it's smart to allow a child to go in some cold water. Second of all, none of this adds up. You're not going to try to jump in and save your kid? People keep saying “he should’ve jumped in” but are forgetting that *he deliberately pulled up his anchor while the boy was still in the water* . There was no accident here, he didn’t jump in because he full well knew he was drifting away while the kid was in the water.
Next we'll be hearing the father left him in the back seat of a hot car. They don't understand the severity if they're not held accountable. Father needs to be charged. Does it make sense to only charge him if the child drowned.

The coldness and unkindness some children suffer from their families is unbearable to think about. Thank goodness for the rescuer's intervention in this situation. My heart goes out to this boy and I hope people continue to look out for him
Saw another video of when the dad showed up definitely impaired, and also the paramedics showed up. The boy was terrified of 911 being called....sounds like authorities have been called to their home before from the boy's reaction---why would a child be begging through tears "please don't call 911..." Thankfully they were called anyway. Hard to watch this child's fear but thankful the kayaker was calm and spoke to him gently but matter of fact so all turned out well.

I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing, the extreme fear from the boy of 911 being called.... it's the reaction of a kid who's been through something horrific before after law enforcement was there, and then suffered at the hands of the parent later.

I just watched the whole video, and there’s definitely something wrong with the dad. It’s almost like he had a little bit to drink. I am literally sick to my stomach. I hope this little boy is in a very safe environment. Thank goodness this kayaker was able to rescue him. ❤️👍🏻To the kayaker!

With a response like that, showing such little empathy or care toward the child it makes me wonder if something more malicious wasn't/isn't at play here... perhaps in the father's eyes, the only accident that took place that day was the guy saving the kid... idk. But what I do know is, if my son was drifting away, the hell with the boat, im jumping in the lake after him.
Why the cops and prosecutor didnt do a serious dig into this is beyond me - absolutely appalling! Did they even interview the kid probing to learn about his home environment? smh...

Ohh the father knew and did nothing..even a boat of cowards didn't rescue the child screaming for help - the went past him IN middle of the lake..father is true evildoer and admitted this child had it happen to him before ..if nobody acts, that kids will die of negligent homicide or severe beating!

I believe the dad left him in the water as a punishment. Absolutely horrific situation. We need to pressure authorities or CPS to have a home visit. Has anyone heard anything about a mom or another parent in the picture?
