    As a 35 year, American fan of F1, living on the West Coast, I was so excited when this race was announced. I was so ready to get my tickets and book my travel, right up until the prices were announced and all the tickets were bought by the hotels. My excitement immediately turned to frustration and realization that the event was not financially viable. Now, it just makes me mad. I'm glad that more people are interested in the sport I love, but these types of events are just not sustainable and definitely not for people like me.
    I do appreciate the cameo of the DeLorean at 8:32.

    • @nikolasr.75
      @nikolasr.75 Рік тому +31

      Absolutely right. Who are these people that can afford to attend races? There's no incentive for them to drop prices while they're selling out every race. Sucks for us. I haven't been to a race since '98 Montréal when a ticket was $75 if I can remember correctly. Keep the faith

    • @policethatmoustache89
      @policethatmoustache89 Рік тому

      Agreed!! Miami and Vegas are straight money grabs, as if the sport and/or FIA need more money. Those races are for the sponsors and the wealthy and are kind of just embarrassing spectacles outside the race itself. 😩 At least we have Austin!

      I can totally relate to your level of frustration. I'm a fan of F1 and have been for years also, unfortunately what we're seeing is the sport being turned into a spectacle where being there is more important that what actually happens "there". Sure, i'll watch the race on TV, and i'm sure it'll be a heck of a show, but my sincere hope is that there isn't a repeat of some of the American cringy behavior put on display like what we saw at Miami for the world to see. What's "cringy" Hip hop stars with zero motorsport credibility introducing F1 drivers complete with race/nationality emphasis.

I understand the desire of drawing in the European audience and of the lure of the Vegas strip at night, but I have my doubts of how successful the race will be here due to the very late time slot. There's more to the timing issue than just the fact its 3am in NY. In Nov temperatures in LV are typically around the low 20s C which is great for racing in the day. But, being a desert, temps at night can be as low as 0 C, which means the drivers could be in for a pretty frosty ride by the time they get on track.

    As an east coast F1 fan in the US, the times for everything are terrible. Qualifying at 3am. The race at 1:30am. I won't be able to stay awake that late to watch the race unfortunately. I'll be finding out the results in the morning when I wake up, and then watching the replay. It's not really great for the US fans, and that's why the Las Vegas GP was set up (to bring in more US fans). And the ridiculous pricing just to go. It's over $2000 USD for a 3-day general admission pass, plus whatever it costs just to stay in a hotel, plus airfare, plus costs for renting a car or taking an Uber, and whatever the food/drink costs are as well. I can't justify spending $5000 just to watch an F1 race live from some bleachers! That's just crazy!

    I really wish they had kept the exorbitant costs to the glitz and glamour stuff like paddock pass. I was super disappointed by the pricing early-on. Even if hotel and ticket prices slowly drop as they attempt to fill last minute, its just difficult to plan entire trips in that window.

    Thanks for the video Kym, it's fascinating to see and I'll be very curious to see what last minute tasks remaining in the week leading up to the event... on that note, I'm 41, middle to upper income earner and been an F1 fan since I was 3-4 years old. I'm flying to Las Vegas, from New Zealand, on the 11th November and will be flying out at 8am on the Thursday, the start of the event. It's going to kill me doing so, but the ticket prices for 3 days are obscene and frankly, spectating will be pretty terrible at such a flat venue with buildings everywhere. Hotel prices were completely out of control at the time I was booking my trip for work, so that was the nail in the coffin. The greed is strong in F1 for this race, for that reason, I'm sad to say, that I hope it fails. Suzuka's approach is the way it should be for the fans, reasonable and fair pricing for families, which supports the next generation of fans and F1 employees. Las Vegas will always be a more pricey option, but this has been taken way too far.

As much as we would like them to be, all the F1 races won't be affordable for many and some, like LV, are in the stratosphere, which is OK by me because we can have a single spectacle F1 event like this each year. It will boost the number of F1 fans and that can only be good.

      I think this race is going to be better than people think. A lot of F1 fans have a preconceived negative view about it just because it's the third race in the United States. I think the track is going to be just like Monza, long straights, high speed, a few chicanes. And honestly, I think TV is the best place to watch it. Sure it would be cool to be there live, but you're not going to get the beautiful aerial shots and panoramic shots that you would get on TV. Like any other live sporting event, you go for the experience, not for the views.
      At the very least it can't be as bad Monaco. That track has consistently produced the worst race of the season year after year for the past decade, and the only thing that can help it is rain.

    I’m a Las Vegas local for 20+ years, and this has been a horrible traffic nightmare. I personnaly never watched a F1 race but to block the local sidewalks with drapes so the local pedestrians cant watch, and black out the the glass is not fair for them. Lots of the locals here are on a low income budget and to take that from them is kind of a spit in the face. Don’t they want to gain fans and not lose? Every local that lives within 3-5 miles should be compinsated or given free tickets. Thoughts? (Just being honest)

    • @chrisnguyen2723
      @chrisnguyen2723 Рік тому +1

      While supporting locals is ideal, the truth of the matter is that the marketing behind this project is targeted to an international audience. Vegas has such a massive pull that an event like this will pay itself off in dividends from global tourism regardless of how they treat the locals. They are looking for big spenders to come in, stay in the hotels and splash out at the casinos and restaurants on the strip. Supporting the local populous is just a nice to have.

    I was in Vegas last September. I have been visiting every September for years, but this was my last time going in that month. The strip wasn't what it used to be at all. There was fencing and construction everywhere, with the Bellagio Fountains and Mirage volcano both fenced off. Lighting rigging was scattered everywhere.
    I guess I'll have to go earlier in the year next time to avoid all of the F1 mess.

    Few places know how to waste money and resources like Las Vegas, and they seem to be right on Olympic level spending. All this for a few hours of racing, not even a two week event like the Olympics, though. Las Vegas has homeless people that live in underground tunnels and a surge of immigrants lately, yet all this is being built. Thanks for the update, Kym!

    Midnight in Vegas is breakfast time in the UK (8 hours difference). Only die-hard East Coast US race fans will be up that late. That's also a 1 AM start in the Mountain time zone, where I am. It's quite possible that it will be 10C or less at that time of night. I went to LV on US Thanksgiving weekend years ago, and it struggled to reach 21C mid-afternoon, even though the sunlight felt strong. Wind's also a problem, as there's nothing besides buildings to slow it down. Hoping for the best for F1, but I thought it was silly when I first heard the proposed race weekend timing. It's the exact opposite of Miami conditions.
