      I pay $80 for weekend grandstand seats for the Long Beach GP and got to watch historic 70s-80s F1 cars last April. That alone is much more exciting than modern F1. The cars are so ugly, giant and boring, despite being so fast. Terrible track too. And the prices are absurd. If it were the early 2000s V10s, then I'd be willing to go.

    I was there last week for my nephew’s wedding staying at Carriage House on E. Harmon RIGHT before turn 17. I could see the Paddock building from my window. Today is Oct 8th and honestly Las Vegas has a lot of work to do to finish all this. They did keep me up all night working construction the entire time I was there. Most residents I spoke to are not thrilled with a car race they know nothing about causing traffic and daily road closures, but….I’m an F1 fan and I think this is going to look amazing. I stood in my window every night watching them work. Hopefully the race will be just as exciting as the view.

    Couple of things....
    The sun sets way earlier than 730 at that time of the year. Without looking I would say 530 to 600.
    It will be cold when this racing goes off. Think high 40s to mid 50s by the end of the sessions and race. Also, that time of the year can be windy. If the wind is coming off the Bellagio lake, it will be brutal for the high end guests.
    People paying thousands of dollars to stay at dumps or lower end resorts like Flamingo, Harrahs, Horseshoe, Mirage, Treasure Island, etc are going to be very disappointed and pissed.
    I was just in Las Vegas this week and many news reports about not thinking this event out properly and many regrets.

    Great info on the Vegas F1 GP. I was in Las Vegas the last week of May. Traffic was awful due to the paving shutting down lanes on the boulevard. Lyft drivers were not happy but they had found interesting short cuts on the back roads and lanes to get to and from my hotel. I stayed at Paris. Having attended the eight US GP’s held in Indy, I would love to go to this race. But it is going to be so expensive. Do you need a helper to carry your extra gear around the track? I’ll work for free and pay my travel expenses. Let me know…..😊

    Not to sound like an old man yelling at a cloud but at some point we might lose the essence of what makes F1 great. I went to my first Grand Prix in Detroit in 1982 and have been to around 35 including Spa, Budapest, Melbourne, Montreal and every USGP in Detroit, Indy and Austin. I welcome the new fans and understand they have a different connection to the sport than I do. But we’re pricing them out too. I make a very comfortable living but would never even consider Miami or Vegas for a race weekend. I’d rather go to Imola or Barcelona and have a new experience for a similar price. The new US races are just for influencers and their ilk.

    The thing that has always made Formula 1 great is the love and passion the 'everyday' person has that follows it. It feels like, over the last couple decades that money is moving this sport further and further away from the common viewer. Where is the tipping point of that balance? Las Vegas will be spectacular to watch, no doubt. But lose the 'connection' with the everyday fan, and it will bleed itself to death.... maybe. Just my 2 cents.

    Kim, Team insider here. My understanding (not confirmed) is that the teams will bring their European Motor homes to this race. The European season finished with enough gap to have them sent by sea freight to the east coast of the US and trucked to Vegas. This is expensive but it seems the teams have agreed to this as there is such commercial value to this race and having their motorhomes present means much more branding opportunity. It also saves F1 from building permanent hospitality on site. It seems there is a commercial understanding in place between the teams and F1 to facilitate this. I believe F1 may be paying for the transport cost of the motorhomes.

    This is the kind of race made for TV. I live in the US and I would never actually go to this race- it’s so ludicrously expensive to go, and considering how bad visibility is at a city street circuit you will not get bang for your buck- even with all the free Wolfgang Puck food and booze. I would much rather go to Austin or Montreal, or maybe even Miami.
    Having said that, I think racing at this track will be fantastic. With all those long straights, it seems like the old Hockenheim on the streets.

    I remain sceptical but am happy to see if the LV GP will actually be good.
    BUT... I think 3 races in the US is too much. In a pinch I could live with 2, for example: COTA permanent and LV/Miami alternating. But 3 races in a single country is dumb, regardless which country it is.

    • @Nathan7478
      @Nathan7478 Рік тому +3

      I don't think you understand how big the US is. It is about 20hr drive between each race location. 40hr drive between Miami and Las Vegas. The longest drive between European races is between Barcelona and Hungary which is about 19hrs. You have to look at land mass and population. The US is almost the same size as all of Europe. Europe has 8 races in total. So for as popular as F1 is getting in the US having 3 races is not unreasonable at all.

    • @byfo1991
      @byfo1991 Рік тому +1

      @@Nathan7478 The land is one thing. But take into consideration that Europe has 750 million people while US only has 330 million. Plus F1 is Europe's n1 motorsport while in US it sits in 3rd place behind Nascar and Indycar.
      All that being said, there are 8 races in Europe and 3 in US. I would say all things considering, it is pretty much even for the demographic :)

    • @Nathan7478
      @Nathan7478 Рік тому

      @@byfo1991 that was my point. For the land mass and population 3 races is fair. One east coast, one central, one west coast.

      @@KenaiTobinI think for hardcore F1 fans COTA does remain the main US race. But Miami and Vegas are designed for another purpose. I live in Vegas and would much rather go see the race at COTA than the one happening 20min from my house.
