Hey, your friend popped into my mind randomly because I remembered her from one of your videos and now you're doing one featuring her. Cool! This was fun to watch.
Hey BTB, I have some credit card questions. What’s the best way to increase chances of getting approved for a credit card? I know there is an optimal way to apply for a credit card I just don’t know what they want to see. 1.Do CC companies prefer if you have own a home, rent, or no payment for rent or mortgage? And do they prefer it to be a smaller amount or a bigger amount? 2. What travel CC do you prefer? I don’t have a single travel credit card and I’m looking to get one. 3. I want the highest amount for a credit card possible, how often can I request an increase and what is a good amount to increase by? Do I have to have a larger salary or can it be the same? Thanks, Brent A
Hey - not BTB but ive gone through enough to know about this. The main things they looks for are the ratio of debt to limit on any line of credit, not always the total credit utilization. Also how often you get a hard inquiry can also impact the chance of approval, I waited a couple months after getting the Amex blue card (forget the exact name) before getting the Citi Double cash just to make sure it wasnt a wasted hard inquiry.
They prefer a HUGE salary. Own so you cannot easily run away. And have debt paid off.. i.e. very low utilization. And of course, all the things that go with a high credit score. Travel card? I got all of them basically. Just non of the $200+ annual fee ones. First year no annual fee and at least $500 sign up bonuses. 2-3 a year. I have gotten 10 the pay 4 months myself. So you can push it harder with higher credit score of 800+
Francis, you are so wonderful at what you do. I love this humorous take on a subject that can be difficult for many people. I have learned a lot from you this year.
I have used the 0% offers to reduce debt. If I get close to the critical date where the APR will go up, I move the balance if I cannot pay it off. Sometimes, there are no transfer fees. This used to be the case often in the 90s. Recently, DISCOVER had an offer for 0% interest with a 0% balance transfer fee and a 14 month term for the 0% interest. I set auto payments to pay off the debt asap or at least within 13 months to be safe.
Dont have any knowledge about credit card. Hmmm. Her attitude towards credit card is uninteresting . She just interested in ur smartness. I like a smart guy For Sure. Do u speak any other foreign languages? I speak German, Russian, English, Korean and Mongolian.
I also have never had a credit card. I don't think you explained it very well at the start. They are financial debt products used for day to day financing of small to mid size expenses (vs. larger personal loans), with the intention of being paid off under a few years. They are not necessary if you 1) don't care about your credit score and 2) have a good cashflow. Overall good video I learned something. You should maybe cut out the chit chat so it would be a more concise video, but overall it was helpful, thanks.

This was really helpful, I’ve never had a credit card but have been thinking about getting one because I think one would be helpful when I travel. For instance, most Hotels expect credit cards, and if you don’t have one they make you pay a deposit and won’t let you charge things to your room. I’m gonna look for one with no annual fee.
BeatTheBush I don’t think I’m gonna bother getting one. NZ doesn’t have great options and I’ve lasted this long without one. It just annoys me that hotels treat me like I have no money compared to customers who have credit cards when I actually have enough money to pay cash.
@@RachStar100 Sometimes, I also factor in the ease of navigating everyday life. Sometimes things doesn't make much sense but I'll follow the norms of society to blend in if it doesn't cost me anything.
Beatthebush So is it better to open an account with a credit union and having one of their credit cards vs opening a big bank account and having one of their credit cards?
It's just a camera angle, hahhaha. Besides, thank God I got out of the Credit Card sinkhole 2 years ago when I was 21. Lesson learned, I'll never touch one again. People just need to lower their expenses. Most people spend $3,000 a month when they make $3,000 a month...
Can someone tell me why Americans use credit cards so much? In Belgium, you don't use credit cards much (internet purchases and such). You mainly use debit. Edit : Also, anyone can your credit card if they have it, right ? If you use a debit, you need the pin. So if you lose your debit, you shouldn't lose money.
so is that the same friend that you had along with your other friend that you did a video a while back on what it's like to be Beat the bush or hang out with Beat the bush in that outdoors video? when she got her first credit card did she get a secured credit card? did she start out with a local bank like the bank of California or did she go straight to Chase? I would assume with an empty file she wouldn't be able to get a Chase or American express that's for people who have 700 or above? I would think a local bank not Citi, Bank of America, Barclay's Capital 1 . local bank would mean banks that are only in your area. would be the way to start out? does your friend have any thoughts about getting any charge cards to stores? the cards that you can only use in the store and store credit cards that can be used in the store and out?
Yes. Same perosn. No she got a really good credit card going against the recommendation of credit karma saying she shouldn't. Didn't talk about charge cards though. I think she's just getting started and not looking for new ones that soon.
I'm so mad, I only have a few payments left so I made a double payment, to get the balance down. They still hit me with interest on the next payment. I guess I didn't read the fine print.
15:40 Wow I got both those cards lol. By the way, Discover keep sending me crap invitations in the mail about the IT card then when I go to apply they turn me down! "Too many recent inquiries," bastards lol. I don't need/want another credit card right now but for future reference how long before I can apply for the IT card?
BeatTheBush Experian Creditworks is telling me I got a 736. Credit Karma, 712 Transunion 698 Equifax. Since they wanna be petty I might not apply again at this point & I'm done with everything for 2 years lol I want Zero inquiries now
BtB, this stuff doesn't really apply to me (on the other side of the pond) but I'm still glad I spent this half hour on this video because now I understand better why some people in the US struggle with credit and I also understand what you do for your patreons. I imagine that minimum fee is the greatest catch of a credit card because that's how usually people think, "oh, I only have to pay that much". And I imagine it takes a while for that minimum amount to become painful.
Just out of curiosity is there such a thing as a prepaid credit card? For example if I know next month I'll have a lot of expenses, so I put some money in advance on the card?
interest is charged at *whatever* rate on the ORIGINAL balance monthly - not on the balance that is $10 less after you paid the minimum - and the same rate is applied ( on the original balance each month) *until* you pay off the original balance- read the fine print....if you use a credit card consider it the same as cash - do I have the cash to pay this? ( ie- pay the balance in full ) - if not don't buy it...
Yes, if you violate the grace period, even if you pay it off in full the following month, this may not guarntee you to get your grace period back since the interest rate may not appear until the statement end date.
You should use it often and pay it all off in full every month. There are tricks on boosting your credit score short term but doing the first thing will get you a great score long term without tricks.
Hi do you think there’s and pro/con to doing auto redemption of cash rewards vs letting the rewards to accumulate and redeeming less frequently? I have the boa cc
When you have more sitting around you might be able to wait for some special deal where spending the points will be cheaper. I.e. 20% off gift cards. But generally I just redeem as fast as it allows.
No amount of editing would have gotten rid of the awkwardness. You can tell she felt weirdand in turn made you sound hard to follow. And I felt the pain watching. Its too bad because I really wanted to hear your responses. Your vids got me a 705 from a 540 just from getting a better understanding how cc companies rate customers and their habits. Guess Ill just go back and watch your solo vids. keep up the good work.
Use balance transfer but that will eat up 3-5% transfer fee immediately. You don't really want to do that too much since it costs money and it just pushes things out a bit.
I have an Amazon card and a secured card. Any recommendations for a second real card so i can kill the secured card? I heard there was some 5% back gas card. I have to look into that, but any other good cards? Amazon card is interesting. I don't have prime cause i don't think it's worth it, but if you spend $5000 a year on Amazon, it's automatically worth it just for the cash rewards +2% bonus
Get either the Chase Freedom or Discover It. Rotating categories but you wont find a 5% gas card not rotating. Discover has 5% and they will double the rewards end of first year. Here is a referral: bit.ly/2xxcxTQ
When your card is idle and they close it on you, this will affect your score since your total credit limit is reduced. If you have a huge total limit then it will affect it less.
BeatTheBush However you said in this video that my overall credit history also plays a role in how much my score will be effected. So my question is, how long should your credit history be in order for the closed idle card to effect my score the least? How long is your overall credit history BeatTheBush? I can use your answer as a guidepost.
So what is your take on paying off the total balance before the statement is issued verses paying the total balance before the due date? I first encountered this issue when I tried paying off my first credit card. Then later a friend encountered the same issue. Let’s say your credit card statement gets issued on the 10th of each month but you get until the 25th to pay for it. If you decide to pay the total balance off on the 20th then on the 10th of next month even though you didn’t use the card at all there will be a balance of interest accrued from your old balance from the 10th-20th. I felt that it was a cheap shot from the credit card companies to screw people over because if people think that they had already paid off that credit card in full and decided not to use that card anymore yet if they didn’t notice that last bill then they end up hurting their credit if they don’t happen to check that last balance and miss that payment.
Pay off all right before statement due is a trick to lower utilization ratio. Pay down to $2.01 to make sure you still owe them something for that statement period so it shows up on all credit report types. Then pay off the $2.01 on or before the due date. So two times of payment each statement period.
I don’t think you understand my question. This is for someone trying to completely pay off a credit card so that they won’t use it ever again. Like for example May 10th the statement is processed and the bill was $500 and you paid it off the whole bill of $500 on May 20th. Due date was May 25th. On June 10th there will be another bill of interest accrued from the balance from May 10th-20th.
I applied for US bank cash+ 2 days ago with credit of 743 and no job. They sent me an email. "Your application may be subjected to further verification. You will be received additional information in 7 to 10 days". Do you think they rejected me? Also I have got one more hard enquiry.
haha, this was kind of hard to watch. You know so much and she knows so little.. for anyone who gets confused, it's really easy. Using a credit card is like borrowing money. Lets say you bought a coat for $200 using a credit card. Then a statement comes that says you owe us "$200" but you only have to pay us back a minimum of $10. That means that they are gonna charge interest to the extra $190 you owe and it might go up to say $195. That's how people get in trouble with credit cards. They borrow a bunch of money to buy things they can't truly afford and can only pay minimum amounts due if that. Then interest kicks their ass for the remaining balance they can't pay. For those disciplined enough, use your credit card on everything you can, knowing that you're buying things you can pay for in full. Pay back everything you borrowed and never just the minimum. You don't even have to wait for the statement to come, you can make payments right away.
I got my credit cards. :)
Yes... you did.
Did you let Mica and Sadie smell the cards?

One thing I would add, is to put a note in your wallet which card is better for each category. Sometimes you can get more cash back at gas stations with cards other than chase freedom unlimited. Or office supply stores. Or dining. Or a million other places

It's so stupid they send you invitation to turn you down. What's the point? You can apply 2-3 a year and just wait until your credit improves more.
BeatTheBush Experian Creditworks is telling me I got a 736. Credit Karma, 712 Transunion 698 Equifax. Since they wanna be petty I might not apply again at this point & I'm done with everything for 2 years lol I want Zero inquiries now
C Quat, blink twice if you're there against your will :P
Holy crap, you look like an Asian version of my dad. I have to show this to him when he gets home
Lol... ha ha.
It's a carrot dangled in front of you saying it's free money. So you get a taste of it and you think it's free.
Question is it possible to use your credit card every once a month for 12 months if u pay them full?
I don't understand your question because it seems too simple a question. Of course you can.
@@BeatTheBush no cuz i heard other ppl saying that you shouldn't be using credit card that much so i get confuse most often times
You should use it often and pay it all off in full every month. There are tricks on boosting your credit score short term but doing the first thing will get you a great score long term without tricks.
@@BeatTheBush thanks alot, i'll keep that in mind
18:30 I think she has a crush on you ;)
Lol... I knew this was going to happen. People say that with ANY female on camera.
BeatTheBush lol haha that happened last time too
That's true. But this particular lady is kind of awkward around everyone, or she's EXTRA awkward around you. ahem.
Lol, this was great, funny and informative
=D Thanks!
Somebody smashed! Congradulations on your achievement. Lol
Omg... so not PC.
I highly recommend her to stay away from credit card because she will end spending more money than usual and she is going to be in debt.
I think she should test it out over a year and see where she ends up. I will be checking in with her.
Asking her to rate the soft toy on cuteness, putting her on the spot to see what she thinks of you. Slick move.
Lol! She's rating the stuffed animals because I figure the audience is interested in this. =D
Man this was awkward.
Did I increase the awkwardness with the editing? I tried hard.
Can someone tell me how you pay off a credit card? With another credit card?
BeatTheBush thanks I'll definitely use your referral for all the help you've given
BeatTheBush meant to tell you i applied. Hopefully it worked right. What's the referral bonus you get?
BeatTheBush i seem to have gotten a $50 bonus as well because I have a negative balance. Wish they had said that before i paid off my first purchase.
Hmm interesting, you're playing around with close up huh?
Too many cameras.
My suggestion for using credit card: only spend amount that you already have the money :)
@BeatTheBush. How long does your credit history typically have to be in order for and idle credit card too close and not affect your credit score?
When your card is idle and they close it on you, this will affect your score since your total credit limit is reduced. If you have a huge total limit then it will affect it less.
BeatTheBush However you said in this video that my overall credit history also plays a role in how much my score will be effected. So my question is, how long should your credit history be in order for the closed idle card to effect my score the least? How long is your overall credit history BeatTheBush? I can use your answer as a guidepost.
10 or more years of perfect credit history with 20+ cards.
BeatTheBush how do i Contact you? I have some info that might benefit you.
About page, email there.
Wait, I thought you said to pay down to 99 cents then it got adjusted. Isn't that a better option?
Wait but wouldn’t that mean that they can charge interest for $2.01?
I don’t think you understand my question. This is for someone trying to completely pay off a credit card so that they won’t use it ever again. Like for example May 10th the statement is processed and the bill was $500 and you paid it off the whole bill of $500 on May 20th. Due date was May 25th. On June 10th there will be another bill of interest accrued from the balance from May 10th-20th.
You’re on the money bro hahaha..
=D
Super Great Video.
=D
I applied for US bank cash+ 2 days ago with credit of 743 and no job. They sent me an email. "Your application may be subjected to further verification. You will be received additional information in 7 to 10 days".
Do you think they rejected me? Also I have got one more hard enquiry.
Sometimes it takes longer. They'll probably do a manual review on it.
Just pay whatever you spend like when you used to use your debit card directly but here you take advantage of cash back... 👍👍👍👍
Yup. Never carry a balance.
When a girl say she want netflix and chill, she dont mean netflix and chill. same for talking about credit card.
You people... stay on topic! Credit cards! For beginners!
BeatTheBush the more you protest, the more people are gonna tease you...
This is sooo sweet:)
I also never owned a credit card. It was a great video !
Sure.. it might be a good thing if you are the type to overspend with one.
Stick it in, JUST STICK IT IN.
Omg... so lewd.
BeatTheBush Favorite video 2K17. Videos are awesome!!
This was awkward, but adorable!
=D
haha, this was kind of hard to watch.
