Years ago at a gas station convenience store I noticed a cardboard display advertising a contest to win a jet ski. I tore off an entry form from the pad, and set it aside at home because it required mailing in the form. A few months later before the contest ended, I decided what the heck, go ahead and send in the entry form. A few weeks later at work I received a phone call that I had won the jet ski and trailer! I guess the odds were pretty good because most people probably did not bother to mail in an entry, thinking they will never win.
What you call luck in your case can be explained by frugal and value focused mindset with a lookout for deals. You spend a lot of time searching for value and savings compared to the next person so you are bound to capitalize on it when it happens.
Truly believe this is one of your best contents ever. One of my mentors once said “never associate with the unlucky” and that was coming from someone who really didn’t believe in the common idea of luck (as a given).
I like listening to you because you are easy to listen to. You are personal enough and engaging enough even though you are an engineer. My healing teacher (all of North America) is an engineer and so was his teacher (the founder of Pranic Healing). Both were very personable as well, and did well with audiences.
Yes, I totally agree! I'm such a bargain hunter! It feels like luck but it is how you play the "card that you have in your hand " for the most part. Everyone who knows me knows how frugal I am. Frankly, I'm not embarrassed by it but sooooo proud of myself! I'm self sufficient and financially stable for a single 45 yr old woman. My goal is to retire when I'm 50! Actually I could retire now but I LOVE my job so I will continue working until I can't anymore. 😊
Wow.. that's a great place to be if you LOVE your job. I have something to say about loving your job as far as how much flexibility to do what you want to. I.e. work your own hours or chase your own crazy ideas. Much of the time, your superior will stop you from chasing wild ideas since it might waste company resources for something that may not pay out. However, it might pay out a lot in your mind.
BeatTheBush Great input! I see what you're saying and hats off to your accomplishments! I'm just not sure if I'm creative and gutsy enough to go that route. I love my job because it's very rewarding not just for monetary reasons but for emotional/spiritual and physical benefits. I'm an ultrasound technologist. I love helping/saving lives. I feel this is my purpose in life. 💖
I think the same way. A winning attitude will go a long way. Being in the right mindset sets you up to win. The other day i got free coffee at breakfast because i was nice to a waitress. This is a repeating pattern for me when i go to restaraunts.
Actually, there was a scientific study done and what they determined is those who are lucky, think they are lucky. It more or less comes down to being willing to take a chance and having the conference to see opportunity.
Beat the bush you are kinda wierd finding enjoyment in sorting leggo parts, getting a low paying job just to get insight on the operations, and not using your heat...lol. I love your wierdness. I'm kinda a part of the #Wierdgang so I get you. I love your videos. Keep em coming.
Not just sorting... I didn't like that too much. But rather building the many sets was fun. To a certain point. And selling it for much more than I paid was fun in itself.
not sure how old you are, but I have a question: If you could go back to the age of 20 knowing what you know now, what you do differently in terms of investment strategy? *Would you focus more on the stock market? *Would you invest as aggressively as you could afford into property that didn't have great cash flow, but huge appreciation? *Gave internet business ideas more effort in terms of starting sooner and giving more time and investment into advertising, building inventory etc

This planting seed logic is very much how i engage in the markets. Few Little wins few little losses few bumper gains is how you grow that equity over time. No rogue trading at all just disciplined farmer:)
@@BeatTheBush yes sir. have that one mastered over and over again. Its the more important of the two as winners always take care of themselves. Losing trades are what distinguishes the pro from the punters. You are a breath of fresh air in youtube.
It is so adorable that you have stuffed toys. I just got a uniwhale (whale with a unicorn horn) but my dog claimed it right away :(. An engineer with a sense of whimsy is so cute. I love my stuffed toys , IF I can keep it away from Buddy. I like that you do not define your self worth by your net worth. I also do this. But, most of my purchases that I will actually spring for pricier items are TAX DEDUCTIBLE (e.g. Bose ear buds, Bose surround speaker).
I'm not sure. I guess I still want certain luxuries in life to just try because I can. If you let off saving money, you can easily spend everything you have and put you in the poor house.
Nice video that I enjoyed. For the longest time in our family we joked that we were "break even" people. We loose some things but then we make big gains on others. It made us feel good that we were not totally taken advantage of all the time :) I just realized that most of these points can be also used for dating. Lol
Hi there, I just wanted to say I really like your videos. Most guys on youtube talking about how to get rich are just either a) guys sponsored by the makers of some (often scammy) product they are endorsing or b) kids who got rich quick by sheer luck and now they are trying to make some additional revenue by telling people what to do. But you are really rational and you are actually one of the few people who also talks about SAVING money as opposed to just MAKING money to buy lambos. :D
Sorry, lol. :D Didn't mean to make that comparison. Just saying you are one of the few guys that actually share helpful tips, without pushing their own personal agenda.
A wealthy couple gave away a 2 year old washer dryer combo on Craigslist because they were ‘sick of it in the garage’. Resold them 2 months later for 800$.
Two years ago I was a part of a donation campaign for the local YMCA. After the campaign there was a little party. Based on the amount each person raised, we had points for an "auction" on gifts provided by local businesses. I won two $25 Olive Garden gift cards and sold them on eBay. After fees and stuff I think I got $40 total from those gift cards.
Luck of the draw! If you want to win, keep trying! The more chances you give yourself, the more likely you are to win! You can fail a million times, but you only need to succeed once!
Here in L.A. area, I sometimes turn on my electric heat appliance in the winter, but try to minimize. It gets "surprisingly" chill out here in the desert.
Yeah. I think it comes from perspective and following whatever it is you want to buy/sell. Sort of difficult if you have nothing to mentally compare the price to at a glance.
Funny, but pragmatic advice. I have been . . . "Fortunate" in relation to my class peers, but I really work at maximizing opportunities (as you described) and actively avoid snares that increase my obligations, expenses and burdens. So, no kids and for the last few years, no car (a mixed blessing). I guess others see me as sort of carefree & unburdened. Price? Envy. No" real" friends. Since, I dont have hobbies right now, except cooking, there is nothing I want to buy. I just want cash, but if I could get high quality (mortis and tenon joinery) furniture and some Japanese art, using your strategies, I'd feel lucky (well, maybe just smart).
Real friends are hard to come by and they come and go over the years. People usually have less friends as they age, probably from being more picky with who they hang out with from what I can tell.
Two weeks ago from a 400% bonus on 20$ gamble I won $3600 now in the Bank :)) , it was 5yr I gamble last time in a online casino. A lot of smaller wins yesterday an other $237 netted win on a shared ticket for 15$. And now all my cryptos that I left in for potential gains har nett an other 588$+. Also some small extra job oppurtunity that netted 125$. And I saved 24$ on a jacket for 120$ just because of the wintersale and got a really nice shirt too :). It´s awesome... things just keep happening! :)
I do this with Google play. I use Google opinion rewards app, and it gives you like 10-30 cents per survey, but over time it lets me download things for pretty much for free either as a song or game items in app games.
Yeah, I just started using this app too, and I like it. It literally takes like 10-15 seconds to do each survey. The survey comes to you automatically, maybe every other day (for me). So zero time invested sifting through surveys. I’ve made $6 so far with a total time investment of less than 5 minutes. Most survey apps are a total waste of time, but this one is fast and easy. It only works out to like a dollar a week for me, but the time commitment is so minimal that it’s worth it. Who wouldn’t take a free cup of coffee every week just for like 1-2 minutes of their time?
I found that when I entered a competition and forgot about it, I tend to win. So when I get the call, it's a real surprise because I forgot I entered :O
Hi BtB! I'm also considered a lucky person by many but I always say you make your own luck; and that's pretty much what you said in the last 18 minutes too. I'd just like to add two things: 1) don't let insignificant stuff bring you down. For example I just bought 4 HDDs to build a speed raid but one of the disks is having problems so I have to send it back. I could whine that "oh no, this can only happen to me, I'm so unlucky" but that wouldn't help me, would it? This doesn't mean I'm unlucky, it just means that hard disks are not perfect. (That's why we have backups.) 2) you have to pick where you put your "seeds". You talked about this but I feel like you didn't emphasize it enough. For example there was this campaigns in my country ran by a well known sugarwater company to win three cars. 3 cars for the whole country! 1 chance for each bottle sold in 3 months (or so, I can't remember). Kinda like the lottery. And I don't drink sugarwaters anyway. On the other hand my biggest win was a free oil change. That time I was up against only my county, which is a small one, 300k people, only who owned an Opel (and got the flyer). All you had to do is complete an online form. 5 people were selected, I was one of them. I consider this a double win because I could also test the Genuine GM oil for free and I saw that it performed better than the Mobil M I was using at the time, so I found a better oil too!
Oh yes, that's a good point. Move on from mistakes. Even if you got charged some fee. Ha ha... didn't emphasize it enough? The time cost benefit thing? Chance of success weighted with amount of possible winnings. I think generally, many things with less than 1:1000 I start to not care too much about.
I call that LOA . I came across that this year . I used to think that I’m not lucky at all however I change my mentality and these past few months things have turned around . I almost hit 112 million on powerball a month ago and today I just cashed another small winning on a local ticket . And yes I sign up for any contest , cars home , gift cards etc ... yup cause why not right ? 🤗
BeatTheBush 👍🏼. I buy once in a while and follow my intuition. Like you said and seeing how crazy addictions of scratch tickets buyers are.. you ll go broke before winning .
What are your thoughts about buying used items or equipment? I buy a lot of tools for work and a lot are second hand... There are times where I've saved a few hundred dollars on a single tool set and a few times where the item broke... Got any thoughts? Risk vs reward?
I like it but sometimes I opt for brand new for some things. Tools are hunks of metal so it's easier to buy used. The item breaking might just be a craftsmanship problem and not a stress issue from being used.
Hey man I wanted to ask if you can make a video for someone who has been following your advice especially on credit cards, what's a good strategy when preparing to apply for a mortgage and get the best deal. A lot of people tell me to stop using my credit cards 3 months prior to getting prequalified. Can you share your knowledge if you have not already done so in a video format on your experience?
If you're spending your time holding on to bottle caps, entering codes into a website, to get a $5 gift card (which will take further time to apply to a purchase), you aren't putting very much value on your time. If you have the ability to earn $100 or $200 in an hour, you won't be worried about $5 coupons. Just IMO.
This is how much you can value your time: ua-cam.com/video/N26oQz7QH6U/v-deo.html How long do you think it takes me to collect them? Holding them doesn't take additional time.
BeatTheBush I think I've seen that video :) As a general rule, I won't spend even 3 or 4 minutes for $5, probably not even $10. If its something that gives joy, that is an exception (ie. volunteering) which I'll do for free even if it takes hours. I heed the advice of someone like Grant Cardone ie. worrying about buying a $5 latte is not a good use of my (or anyone's) time. I found that the more I spent, my income went up exponentially. This is because I was focused on creativity and investing, not on budgeting. Just my $0.02 !! Good channel in any case, even if we disagree on some things.
BeatTheBush Signing up for promotions, browsing stuff online, etc. takes time, often more than a few mins. Not worth it for $5 imo, for $25 probably is.
i lost a good amount of eBay bucks by not using it before the expiration date :( there are no reminders, and you have to be ON it and make sure you don't miss the window to use it.
But then you have to spend money to get that $15 off right? It's only saving if you are going to buy something of that same amount rather than finding something to use that savings if that makes sense. I let those bucks pass on purpose just recently.
BeatTheBush you get 6-8% eBay bucks back and can use it to purchase something else on eBay. Only good if you wanted the items and they are priced well. Otherwise eBay bucks aren’t worth it. Compels you to buy more things.
I have this big argument w my girlfriend about this topic. She calls it "putting it out to the Universe" and she has done very well..thinking positive on steroids.
Whats your current investment strategy? Are you purely passive index funds or actively preparing for the inevitable crash? Do you know what index funds are lower risk during a crash? I am contributing to a Roth IRA and wondering if I should hold it in the money market fund until after the crash or just trust in dollar cost averaging and buy a little every month. I recommend turning off your water heater when not using it; I cut my electricity bill down by 350kwh. Keep up the great videos :)
I am positioned more defensively than most. It's just my personal views and shouldn't be something I recommend either since my situation is much different than others.
Ehhhh... I want to buy a car for $1 too. If I were to give it away, I would rather sell all the cars, cash them into $1 bills. Then find some really crowded area and start tossing it into the air... maybe running down naked or something.
haha, you crack me up! Do you ever think you put too much time and energy into saving money? Seems like you can afford to heat the place at this point.
I often end up coming out of a place with something that someone ordered and didn't come back and get but I can use. Most often it's hardware stores/lumber yards. Is Monochrome the type of printer you were talking about in an earlier video?
the opportunity cost of most of this seems way too high for it to be worth it. Time would be much better spent developing a skill than hunting for $5 gift card deals I think.
I come across good deals all the time. Sometimes takes a lot of effort though. Bought 2 houses recently wholesale for 20% of there value. I like buying and selling cars although not doing that to much lately. Just bought a fairly new Dell laptop for $30 because the owner damaged the screen. Easy fix then can resell it. I do the same thing online watch the prices and when they go to where I like then I buy.
The bigest retail store in Portugal makes 50% off in all toys before christmas. Best Legos gone in 3 minutes. They actualy do some dumping prices as a marketing strategy before christmas because you pay the full price and the discount goes to your Store Card.
Depends on the type of activity, you have to put enough 'tickets' in to win. And if the tickets are free, and you have a good chance of winning, then why not.
My tip of the day. Download the mcdonalds app. I've been getting 1 dollar quarter pounder with cheese or steak egg cheese biscuits for months. You could make two accounts and go twice a day. And eat for 14 bucks a week. This is not a health tip. Lol.
If a little btb fan bumps into u at a restaurant would u be willing to take a picture with her? And r u interested in making fun science videos like mark rober? Is holding bottle caps hoarding ?
Sure but do note that I am not famous enough to have someone recognize me. I also do not hang out at public places that much. I am interested in making all kinds of videos as long as its interesting to me and the viewers. Holding bottle caps.... yes it probably is. But then its sort of like hoarding value since they can be exchanged for a coke, but I cant even drink half a can these days.

(That's why we have backups.)
2) you have to pick where you put your "seeds".
I have great luck but it follows by bad luck...
Also how you think, is how you program yourself to have life show up for you. It's simply the law of attraction.
I do have something to say about powerball and lottery tickets though. If you do play, play $1 a week max.
BeatTheBush 👍🏼. I buy once in a while and follow my intuition. Like you said and seeing how crazy addictions of scratch tickets buyers are.. you ll go broke before winning .
I got stressed just listening to this and all the minor details to keep track of for $5-$10
Lol... if you cant keep track then depending on how much you don't want to deal with, it can mean adding a year or two to your work life.
Cosmic Habit Force, Law of Attraction
What is that? A show?
Something that Napoleon Hill talks about. He is the author of best selling book “Think and Grow Rich”
BeatTheBush It's one of the Universal laws, you should look into the occult and magic, it will explain why some people are more lucky than others.
Thank you. Not much luck yet.
Don't stop using them. Use them with a low utilization OR use the boost trick. ua-cam.com/video/LyBjciz4-zg/v-deo.html
thanks!
=D
Dude's wearing a large jacket indoors. It'd probably 55 degrees in that house. That's some extreme saving, lol.
It was 65 or so.
So your opinion was counter to this? Since it was an argument?
Hey Beat the bush can you do a video on finding value for a car? Value, vs cost etc?
Info in this video might help you do that: ua-cam.com/video/PPcgZ09r5Q0/v-deo.html
BeatTheBush thanks
=D
Whats your current investment strategy? Are you purely passive index funds or actively preparing for the inevitable crash? Do you know what index funds are lower risk during a crash? I am contributing to a Roth IRA and wondering if I should hold it in the money market fund until after the crash or just trust in dollar cost averaging and buy a little every month. I recommend turning off your water heater when not using it; I cut my electricity bill down by 350kwh. Keep up the great videos :)
I am positioned more defensively than most. It's just my personal views and shouldn't be something I recommend either since my situation is much different than others.
Luck is the result of work
More luck comes when you put it in the right places.
Good tips. I just bougt the technica mic/camera with 40% off.
Nice! That's a good discount.
You sir, are my hero, but how do you typically find start up companies?
New companies start all the time. They make a big fuss with huge marketing budgets. So you'll seem them in ads and mail sent to you.
my pantry is my prized collection. one year, i inherited 6 cars! i sold them for $1 each!
Ehhhh... I want to buy a car for $1 too. If I were to give it away, I would rather sell all the cars, cash them into $1 bills. Then find some really crowded area and start tossing it into the air... maybe running down naked or something.
Sounds like my dating strategy
Lol... cast a huge net? Lol!
also buy swiss made watches, they retain value over time, if not up.
There is a danger of holding expensive things though.
What jacket is this? Is it a hoodie + jacket? It's definitely my style!
It's two things combined!
you can repair and sell salvage cars 2:11 . it's a lot of money to be made .
check out Samcrac channel.
Ahhh if you do it, I'm glad you can do so. I'm not into that though.
my friend who moved to Australia, the same friend who gave me the lamp here. hahahahahhaha idk why I find this so funny
Lol... I'm okay with that. Unintentional jokes. =D
*nice video bro. i like the steak stuffed toy man*
It lasts much longer than a real one, lol.
*no way bro. a real steak is life*
No heat in the house?
During this video? Nope. It was 60F.
That’s so funny, i was thinking the same.😁
RDLMeThat FOR FASHION
haha, you crack me up! Do you ever think you put too much time and energy into saving money? Seems like you can afford to heat the place at this point.
RDLMeThat, energy bills in the Bay Area can run in the hundreds. But he is being very frugal.
I often end up coming out of a place with something that someone ordered and didn't come back and get but I can use. Most often it's hardware stores/lumber yards. Is Monochrome the type of printer you were talking about in an earlier video?
Yeah I use monochrom laser only because that's the one I have right now.
Didn't you say you've had it for over ten years?
Luck is made, not born.
the opportunity cost of most of this seems way too high for it to be worth it. Time would be much better spent developing a skill than hunting for $5 gift card deals I think.
i learned a lot from the sound of your coat, francis
Seeeehhhh... seeehhhhh
Good video!!
Thanks!
How do you post merchandise to sell here ?
I think you have to start an account with teespring.
@@BeatTheBush Thank you !
Fixed! I like that. =D Some people are always spending in each and every transaction. Others are gaining even when they are spending.
The thumb nail says "incease" instead of increase. Lol
anthony whylly lol
Good eyes!
Totally unacceptable coming from an Asian youtuber!
What is your opinion on Bitconnect?
It looks spammy, scammy, and I'm not touching it.
nice lego business. i always check on my local store for Legos with 50%-75% discount with extra 5€ cuppon. sells really fast online.
Wow... that's some crazy discount. Usually legos do not go on sale that much.
The bigest retail store in Portugal makes 50% off in all toys before christmas. Best Legos gone in 3 minutes. They actualy do some dumping prices as a marketing strategy before christmas because you pay the full price and the discount goes to your Store Card.
Must be cold in your house !! Good way to save on energy bills :)
60F. I checked and was going to mention it. It looks much colder than 60 by the way I dress. I do that.
the way I look at it, SOMEBODY has to win; especially if it's something that involves a bit of effort, the less people will join.
That increases your chances of winning so value wise it's great to try.
Great advice! Do you still have a lending club account? I'm starting to pull money out not sure if it's worth the risk :p
No, I never had one. I was put off by the liquidity issue even if you can sell most of it, you cannot sell all of it.
i agree as well
Raise your hand if you wanted to see video of BtB playing with the Lego.
Lol.. how boring will that be. I do have a Porsche Lego video on this channel.
Not really luck. You are saving points and jumping on low prices to flip for profit. Luck would be entering a contest and tryin to win.
Depends on the type of activity, you have to put enough 'tickets' in to win. And if the tickets are free, and you have a good chance of winning, then why not.
I am taking your advice. I just bought 1 million dollars of lottery tickets. ;)
I specifically talked about that, did you not watch the whole thing?
😝
Can you add some music to the background on further video
I cannot since the majority enjoys the video without music.
james Anderson why music I do not like music with videos. Music is illuminati mind control. Free your mind
I wanna see a video of things where you were UNlucky!
Oh... I had unlucky moments before but hard to remember, I tend to pass up and remember the good things.
My tip of the day. Download the mcdonalds app. I've been getting 1 dollar quarter pounder with cheese or steak egg cheese biscuits for months. You could make two accounts and go twice a day. And eat for 14 bucks a week. This is not a health tip. Lol.
Not a health tip, yup. Although it tastes great, it sure wont make your heart sing.
this is also known as diversification....
Can be thought of that. But cannot diversify if the effort vs payoff is too high.
Its my birthday tomorrow !!
Happy Birthday!!
Buy one get one free butter.
How is the normal price on it? I guess that sounds like a good deal.
When is your birthday?
ImaniNll-b Williams wanna know my birthday ???? Will you give me a gift ??!
BeatTheBush don't u at least go for dim sum with your family and what about that fun fund so u don't say no to friend gatherings?
Oh yes but not *that* much. Ha ha.
New segment. Buying clothes that'll last. :More cheap food videos.
Or just get free clothes. Oh.. more of those? Yeah I haven't done one for a while.
I hardly ever win anything lol
Try more and try strategically.
Hey.. why not make a video how u cut ur own hair urself... If u count.... u could save so much money in 30 years time...($10 x 12 mths x 30 years)
Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/5i4cPNaZzP8/v-deo.html
