VULCANO "Bloody Vengeance and EXORCIST "Nightmare Theatre" both 86 are huge importance to Extreme Metal
Dorsal Atlantica - antes do fim (1986)
Sepultura: Morbid Visions, is an essential '86 album. Always liked it, but it wasn't until after I got into black metal, that I truly appreciated and loved it. Sepultura was among the innovators of the extreme side of metal but hey don't get talked about much these days.
Top 10 of ‘86:
1. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
2. Metallica - M.o.P
3. Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
4. King Diamond - Fatal Portrait
5. Anthem - Tightrope
6. Megadeth - Peace Sells…
7. Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
8. Heathens Rage - S/T
9. Crimson Glory - S/T
10. Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Killer show, guys! God, so many good albums... Some more that are worth a mention:
Saint Vitus - Born Too Late
Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force
Chastain - Ruler of the Wasteland
Helstar - Remnants of War
Cyclone - Brutal Destruction
Nice picks, and some good classics. For me, the 'best' thrash metal album ever delivered and will never be topped (par my definition of what pure thrash metal should be) is "Dark Angel's- Darkness Descends".Cheers, Al
Another great year in metal video guys what I always like when you do these year deep dives is the classics always get shown but also those rare albums that never got the break they deserved back in the day
That Exumer album is "Show No Mercy" meets "Bonded By Blood". There's a track on it called "Fallen Saint" and has one of the main riffs from "Black Magic". They really show their influences on that one.
Obsessed by Cruelty is on of my all time favorites. The Steamhammer is much better in my opinion. After the Deluge was recorded with their session guitarist so that track was not rerecorded for the US and CD-version.
Great discussion for sure! I love Ratt's 'Invasion of Your Privacy'. I owned it on second hand casette in the 90's. The song structures and the guitar tones and the vocals were great. Very different from the other tapes in my collection (punk/crust/grind) but it was more than just a guilty pleasure. I loved the feel of it and I owned up to it proudly at a time when my friends threw me the crook eye for popping it into the car's tape deck.
Desolation Angels, never heard of them? Thanks Alan 🤘
The holy trinity of '86
1:09:24 Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
2:03:24 Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
2:43:55 Manilla Road - The Deluge
Being as I was 19 , 1986 was a huge year for me. Maybe the best. So much good stuff . I was already heavily into Slayer , Megadeth ,. Metallica and Megadeth and I remember discovering a slew of other bands at the time.
Great show last night guys!
Damien Thorne and Sentinel Beast at the end. Killer stuff.
Great call Darcy, Exumer RULESSSS 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill probably is my favorite album from this year.
So many greats, it was hard to narrow down a fave, but yeah… doesn’t get much better than Pleasure to Kill. Thanks for watching!
Some things from my vinyl collection that I don't believe got mentioned last night were Piledriver's "Stay Ugly" and Helloween's "Judas".
Granted Piledriver were a bit a bit of a comedic spoof project, but the two albums released under the name truly stand out in my opinion. Helloween's "Judas" was an EP so perhaps it didn't qualify, but it clocks in at nearly 30 minutes. Saint Vitus's "EP "The Walking Dead" is another great 1986 release. The somewhat obscure Tension (Marty Friedman's former band) released a tremendous LP in '86 entitled "Breaking Point". On the hardcore side, Agnostic Front's "Cause For Alarm" and GBH's "Midnight Madness And Beyond" are perennial favorites.
Angel Dust - Into The Dark Past and Iron Angel - Winds Of War are also killer German metal records that came out in ‘86!!!
I'd say '96 but I would have been four years old
Steamhammer Obsessed by Cruelty for me!!
I still never compared the mixes. I get curious then forget about it.
Gorillaz used holograms. I wonder what age they'd make an Ozzy lol
I’m waiting for you guys to mention floridas’s iron cross… I know Alan must know/have it!!! I have 2 copies ! 3 counting a repress
