Heavy Metallurgy Presents: Episode

- 1992 was a year of great transitions in the Heavy Metal Underground. Glam was dying a swift death upon the rise of Grunge, thrash seemed old and tired compared to the vulgar display of popularity that bands such as Pantera were enjoying, and many of the classic pillars of the Metal genre were at a crossroads. And though Death Metal was enjoying global domination, embers were slowly burning brighter in the obscure Norwegian scene. Tonight, Roger Kjørvik joins us to discuss all things Metal from this turbulent year.

This is my new favorite channel. Love when someone makes you actually go check the albums + I really like the vibe from you guys
Would love if you guys did an epidode like this for every year that metals existed.
I'm sure we will get there!! Thanks for watching!
No one mentioned DEMOLITION HAMMER . In 1992 it was one of the best.
So many albums, not enough time of day to mention. All good, we know whats gucci.
Great band.The two first album.D🤘O
Did pull out the wrong Demolition Hammer, my reissues have the wrong year on the back, so got confused, hehe. Excellent album.
@@rogerkjorvik I have original ( Bought this one when it was released) . And yes. Amazing album.
"That album rules" - Marty Worm

Was a brief blast to finally catch ya fellas live & participate in the chat for once. HAIL ROGER!
Greetings from the Netherlands, you absolute madmen!
92 was jammed with classics!
Why did you call 10+ albums a trinity tho?
Some of the first death metal albums I ever heard came from 92 roger showed 2 of them utopia banished and the end complete always enjoy these year in metal shows a personal one for me would be nine inch nails broken ep one of the first industrial releases I ever bought! great fun content as ever guys thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the show. That NIN EP... i loved it as well, but haven't spun it in AGES. They are a band that I didn't keep up with after The Downward Spiral. Others in the industrial scene, I did, like Skinny Puppy and FLA, but not NIN for some weird reason. Thanks for watching!
This year in metal! Please do 85, 87 or 90. I looked through the channel and noticed those years haven’t been done yet, thanks!
I'm sure we shall get to those at some point! Thanks for watching!
I really like Depressive Age's debut album from 1992 and Holocaust's Hypnosis of Birds, it's a huge departure from their NWOBHM days but I like it more
That depressive Age always evaded me. I'd see it in a bargain bin and for some reason, would leave it there. I need to give it a proper spin. Thanks for watching!
@@HeavyMetallurgyIt’s an incredible album!
Marty made a comment about showing some things again and again, and I gotta say, I’m glad you do. I don’t check out everything that is recommended but if it gets metioned several times I’m more likely to do so, and after Slough Feg Has got recommended by Marty, Alan AND Matt from the Dark Path, I decided to pull Traveler up on UA-cam. I now have Teaveler and Down Among The Deadmen arriving in the post. Thanks guys!
YES!!! You WON'T be disappointed! I feel like I'm repeating myself, but if it gets results of people checking out good music, I'll take that as a victory. Take care. Thanks for watching!
i started the video and stopped it immediately to listen to that mercyless record like 7 times in a row. its amazing. i really like the swedish dm band merciless as well. never heard the french one.
I'm glad you checked out that Mercyless album. It is an overlooked classic in my opinion. The song "Substance of Purity".... GODDAMN BANGER! Their follow-up, Coloured Funeral is also good. A bit less catchy, but still on track. Thanks for watching!
Weekend Warrior seems to be about football hooligans rather than partying. That’s how I understand it based on the lyrics
Either applies! But In this case, I think you're right on the Maiden song. Thanks for watching!
Old Al comes correct again!
Thanks for the shout outs boys! I used to think it was "Forever Laid to Rest" too so don't feel bad. :)
WE NEED TO START AN ILLITERACY GANG!
@@HeavyMetallurgy how do you recruit people for an illiteracy gang? Flyers? Facebook group? THEY CAN'T READ
Good stuff fellas
Thanks!
Rage Against the Machine - S/T came out in 92. Probably as influential as Pantera, White Zombie, etc for the direction popular heavy music would go. Also it rules!
Marty, huge fan of Mercyless, you must check out their releases since 2013 (Unholy Black Splendor). Also, since you are a big fan of Voivod, it baffles me nobody ever mentions the veteran French band S.U.P /Supuration, awesome experimental metal band. Cheers !
Do you know the Radical Research podcast? Highly recommend it! They did an episode on Supuration (#80)
@@psychicvacuum555 Thanks, but i can't find it.
I somehow missed out on SUP. Can't say that I've heard them other than a track or 2. Wasn't Tom from Celtic Frost in that band for a minute? I will eventually get around to checking out later day Mercyless. They just fell off the radar for me over the years. Thanks for watching!
Radical Research... great dudes AND podcast. Hunter and Jeff have both been on past episodes of HM. Check out the shows in the archive! Thanks for watching!
The End Complete is a monster, astonishing, absolutely perfect album. Obituary sounds like they are at one with their instruments and 100% in the zone. It was a bit less intense than the first two but they made up for it by being so good and with strong songs. Early Obituary and Deicide will always be some of my favorite albums ever created, for any genre.
I was in high cool at the time it came out and remember there was something missing on "The End Complete." Later I found out it was James Murphy. Even though he was not an original member, you could tell the songs were not as haunting. Imagine how good The End Complete would have been with James Murphy.
Dream Theaters Images and Words was not a "sleeper" by any means. What's that guy on about?
1492-1992-500Years of Genocide😮😮😮
Good point indeed. Thanks for watching!
Into the Everflow by Psychotic Waltz, arguably their best record, and also Clouds by Tiamat, which is a fan favourite along with Wildhoney. These two were not mentioned by anyone, I think.
Roger is very knowledgable and has an amazing collection, I've been following his channel for quite some time.
I've come out of this episode with 5 albums that I feel I really have to check out. Always great fun metal conversation with you guys, thanks!
2 fantastic albums you mentioned there! Cheers 🤘
Awesome! I'm glad you got something out of the show. And I agree... Roger rules, has an amazeballs collection AND knows his shit. I'm an avid watcher of his channel as well. We were thrilled to have him on and be sure to check out tonights Album Club discussion of Plaguefever.... he rejoined us to fill in for Jim and discuss the album. He will of course return to the show! Thanks for watching!
remember a day in 92 when i was at Øystein Aarseth's helvete store and he was over himself with entusiasm playing the Burzum adv tape for the debut album for me.he was like listen to how cold and evil this sounds.a year later Kristian killed him.and that Ryan Muldoon dude who coments to your live stream made one of the better death metal fanzines back in 90/91.the I Hate Dave Mustain zine.you need him as a guest on a future Metallurgy streams.try getting hold of him
That's a great idea. Ryan RULES. Thanks for watching!
Angel Dust was a big one for me. I was twelve and hated it. It didn’t sound like the Real Thing How dumb I was because now it’s one of my favorites
I cringed when I purchased "I Hear Black." It is complete garbage. I needed it to complete my Overkill discography. I've tried to go back to find any sort of redeeming qualities, and I almost always lie to myself and say, "Oh, I like that riff!"
I guess nearly every band is allowed one turd.
I saw an interview with Blitz the other day and he was saying that the album was one of their highest selling and people liked it? This blows my mind as it’s a super shitty album, Thanks for watching!
@@HeavyMetallurgy How is that even possible!? That's like lining up 12 bars of gold and a dog turd and claiming that 9 out of 10 people chose the dog turd hahaha.
That was good, I've learned something...again.
Dude, Chechnya? This is embarrassing, check your atlas.
2:26:33 😊😊😊😊😊😊
REVOCATE THE AGITATOR!!!
I can't stand death or black metal so in normal metal 2 albums that come to mind immediately are fear of the dark and crimson idol.
No no no wait. War Babies is a GREAT hard rock album
My top three albums are the ones that everybody hates. Everyone has different taste, and all that. There's albums universally hailed as classics that I don't like too. But when I hear fans of these bands don't like the albums, I'm totally baffled.
Testament - The Ritual
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Obituary - The End Complete
I can't say I HATE any of those. There's just better in all 3 bands catalog. And it's totally fine that you like what others dont. We all hear the same piece of music differently. Thanks for watching!
MY METAL TASTE CHANGED, I WAS INTO , ABAZAGORATH TGROUGH XASTHUR That including, from Europe, Asia and South America Australia etc. 8 years I stopped all back. I'm more doom and Avant-garde or prog. Etc. Death metal only band i like today is Death, Exdeo, kataklysm. I hate morbid angel now and nile etc..
Woah! Marty, "The Angel and the Dark River" is their BEST album! Give it another go man!
UGH!! I was filled with RAGE when I bought this album as an import for $25 back when it came out, AND NO DEATH VOCALS? Whiny moans from Aaron before he found his voice. I'm glad you dig it. A lot of people do and I can respect that. Thanks for watching!
You guys are all on as much drugs as Mustaine used to do! Countdown is fantastic. Great songs, great mix, great performances….Bullets is the worst track on here.
It has it's moments. I can't deny that! Glad you love the album! Thanks for watching!
