I actually never knew there was a cover stitch machine so glad you brought that out. I’m glad I found your videos , love your enthusiasm to teach, it’s great! Keep it up! Thank You! ♥️🙏☀️🌈☀️
This totally helped me. My serger (inherited from my mom) is a Singer Tiny Serger. I do not have a manual but I think, after seeing this video, I will see if I can download one and learn how to use it. O Mylanta! I just want to shout out to you on a wonderful class today at the EXPO! You are as beautiful in person as you are in video. You sweet, compassionate, and eager to teach. It was a privilege to meet you in person. Thank you for the wonderful gift/prize. Sew on Sis! 💖
I learn so much from your wonderful videos. I just ordered a Brother 1034dx serger thanks to you. I still am a little chicken about serging but I will follow your guides and hopefully become comfortable soon. Thank you for your time and care in making the videos. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much! I needed this information. I got a super deal on a cover stitch machine but had no idea what they are used for. Lol I had a serger already. I thought they were pretty much the same. Thanks again for setting me straight. Love your videos! ❤
I use my coverstitch machine to attach my quilt backing to my longarm leaders rather than pinning. I hate pins! Pulls out quickly and easily! I only use two threads. Love it!
Great Explanation and easy to understand!!!! Thank you!!! You have the best videos. So easy to understand without all the mumbo jumbo!!!! Thank you again!!!
I love my 4 thread Baby Lock serger. I bought it 6 years ago and have used it soooo much. A few days ago I just bought the new TOL Baby Lock Coverstitch: "Appluad".
. Thank you thank you thank you. I have my serger out, but I haven’t used it in a while. But it is 30 years old. it’s a White brand and I bought it at Joannes. I love watching your videos. You are so much fun! You’re a joyful, happy person and I love that thank you thank you thank you again!
I have multiple sewing machines, sergers, only 1 Johnson ruffler & 1 coverstitch. I’m not much of a knit fabric user. So if I need to hem say a tee shirt. It’s so much easier to pop in a twin needle in the daily machine vs getting the coverstitch off the shelf & relearn the sequence of steps! However sergers are a different story. I have one dedicated to just rolled hems for gowns & such. So it’s whatever a person decides works best.
Thanks for this video. I have an old Hobbylock serger. I used it rarely because it was so hard to thread. The tweezers set from Harbor Freight makes it a breeze to thread. I was considering selling it and getting a new self- threader serger but now I can save my money and buy more dish mats.
Thank u for this video. It was very informative. I now fully understand the differences and know that at this point i do not need a cover stitch machine. So that saves me yet i would be interested in a video of how to do a cover stitch on a sewing machine thank you
Mind blown! 🤯 I looked down at my shirt and low and behold, there it was, the same seam finish! Thanks so much Chelsea for this explanation on a machine i never knew i might need in the future! 🥳
I've also ordered needles from sewing machines Plus - wow! Wasn't a Schmetz double needle, which barely lasted one tote bag and was definitely broken by the 5th bag, but some sale they had from a company from Germany - still using the first needle - OMG! Amazing! They usually provide live demos on various machines that are being featured. Never ordered a machine from them yet. My Necchi is still working, knock on wood and still have my Sonata by JoAnn - just haven't used it in years and the store wouldn't even tune it up for me. Sure miss our guy that would make house calls to fix our sewing machine. Hope that helps.
I was wondering this just the other day (serger, overlock, coverstich agh!) LOL Edit: At the end now. GREAT explanation! When you got to the coverstick, I went Ahhhh! Yep, I would have though it was serged ;)
So I had to go look , the machine I bought is from 1992 and is a Speedy Lock model 299-299D it even has the VHS tape that shows how to use it . I’m sure it’s never been serviced it’s in excellent condition from what I can tell . Now do I keep it and try and learn how to use it or sell it and buy a new one. 🧐
Knit fabrics are serger only. As per what she said about stitches popping from a sewing machine. Otherwise, I agree with her school of thought to use the sewing machine (straight stitch) and then serge your seam allowances. 😊
Hi Chelsea. Do you have a video on using the serger after sewing the garment? I am planning to sew together a garment made from linen and want to use the serger to finish, but not sure how to go about it. Love your videos. Thanks.
Great video. I bought the Vibrant serger about a year ago and I LOVE it! I bought a less expensive server to start with, just in case I hated it. Question, so, do you sew a stretch seam on your regular machine before you serge the seam of a knit?
Thanks for sharing that info. Now I know why my jammie pants always fall apart!! 🤬 What's your take on the "serger" type foot available for regular sewing machines?
Totally unrelated to the topic but which sewing machine would you recommendfor beginners, self cut, that can also quilt. Is there a machine that can sew, quilt and embroider? Thank you for any reply. ❤
Did you say you had a brother 1040 D? Did yours have a key in it to take out and do different stitches? My brother has a key that you take out and I can't figure out how you take it out. My book is not clear on it and I can't find anything on it on youtube. I am frustrated because of it. Thank you for teaching us.
Is a coverstitch machine only for knits or could it be used to do this type hem stitch on woven fabrics as well? Also if the serger cuts off the seam allowance, what happens if I need to rip out a seam and re-do it? 😮
wondering if the bursting seams story is part of ELCO's history?Hhmmm...also, thanks for this, bought a used Brother serger about 3 years ago and never regretted it! thinking about buying a used coverstitch, can you recommend a good beginner machine?
I made 130 napkins for my niece’s wedding reception using the rolled hem on my serger.
I actually never knew there was a cover stitch machine so glad you brought that out. I’m glad I found your videos , love your enthusiasm to teach, it’s great! Keep it up! Thank You! ♥️🙏☀️🌈☀️
I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! 😊
Finally someone explain this in a simple way. Thank you, love your videos

I learn something new with every video you make. I’m finally clear on the difference now. Yay. Blessings.
Thank you. I just learned something new today. I had never heard of a cover stitch machine.
I use my coverstitch machine to attach my quilt backing to my longarm leaders rather than pinning. I hate pins! Pulls out quickly and easily! I only use two threads. Love it!
That was a great tutorial! I never realized that the coverstitch machine was different from the serger! 🤯
Chelsea - I want to be your next door neighbor! I love your videos and the fun you have motivates me!!!
Great Explanation and easy to understand!!!! Thank you!!! You have the best videos. So easy to understand without all the mumbo jumbo!!!! Thank you again!!!
Glad it was helpful!
You are FANTASTIC! I learned so much from this one video! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
You can use straight stitch with seraflex thread, works good!😊
Thank you. Once again great info. I had never heard of a cover stitch machine. 🤷♀️

I am a Babylock girl, so I have one of those fancy sergers that does a lot. I am looking to upgrade because I want one with speed control.
Thank you. I have been wondering about the difference and uses of a serger and a cover stitch.
Thank u for this video. It was very informative. I now fully understand the differences and know that at this point i do not need a cover stitch machine. So that saves me yet i would be interested in a video of how to do a cover stitch on a sewing machine thank you
Thank You, Love watching, wanted to get serger but thought it would be hard to use. Not Now! Looking to invest in one.
Glad it was helpful!

I sew on my serger directly. If I need to sew first then serge, I can generally glue baste and serge.
I’ve always wondered about those two!
I was wondering this just the other day (serger, overlock, coverstich agh!) LOL
Edit: At the end now. GREAT explanation! When you got to the coverstick, I went Ahhhh! Yep, I would have though it was serged ;)
😊 thank you for sharing this information
You are so welcome!
I don’t use my serger very much, but I mostly make quilts right now
Thanks for this detailed presentation. I never heard of a cover stitch machine!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for clearing that up. I always wondered about that. Love you videos!
I'm so glad this was helpful!
Thank you!
Helpful tidbits ❤❤❤
Thank you for the info! You’re the best!!!❤
i like having one of each because then you don't have to stop, rebuild machine.
Thank you for the information. Can you show how to thread the serger?
Close up tutorial on the serger!! Please- my babylock is collecting dust 😅
Thanks Chelsea big help ❤

Wow thank you

Do you have a tutorial on getting started with the cover stitch?
My serger is out of the box…..I just haven’t used it! lol….i need help!

Garments?? I’m sticking with your bag tutorials. :) Eeegh. :)
What about a blind hem machine.
Did you say you had a brother 1040 D? Did yours have a key in it to take out and do different stitches? My brother has a key that you take out and I can't figure out how you take it out. My book is not clear on it and I can't find anything on it on youtube. I am frustrated because of it. Thank you for teaching us.

Also if the serger cuts off the seam allowance, what happens if I need to rip out a seam and re-do it? 😮
You can change it so it doesn’t cut it off.
Chelsea-what is the best single needle machine to buy?
wondering if the bursting seams story is part of ELCO's history?Hhmmm...also, thanks for this, bought a used Brother serger about 3 years ago and never regretted it! thinking about buying a used coverstitch, can you recommend a good beginner machine?
As a quilter, I’m wondering could I serge vs bind? Obviously, certain quilts but still
Yep!
how could you use you sewing machine as a cover stitch ?
Get it out the box, it's been 4 years!!! Its been 6..... it'll be fine. 😕
Thanks for the great explanation! ❤🪡
