No disrespect to those that commented that they could tell it was dollar tree material. Let them spend their well earned money on non-dollar tree material which is more to their liking, & what they’re accustomed too. You’re not forcing them to buy dollar tree material. You’re always mentioning that these videos are for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money if they’re just starting out, or if there’s no specialty stores near them like Joann’s, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, etc. Fabric can be found anywhere. That’s ok, you might be the minority, not the majority. So, you do you. While everyone else will help the little fish to get bigger w/purchases to support them. Here’s a little fact, that no matter which store you buy fabric from it all undergoes the same process of coming from a big, dusty warehouse somewhere? That the material isn’t made any different than the bigger name fabric stores, I would say: No probably not. Critical comments shouldn’t be taken personally, it’s just one person’s opinion. With all the other hundreds of positive comments, & reinforcements from all the good that you do. It is a honor to watch you bring joy, laughter & your passion to the table, literally. From one sewist to another sewist, just keep going!!! Huzzah!
I agree! We are struggling to make our dollars work harder for our s. Your bigger bags would be perfect for paper products that aren’t heave but are cumbersome. They are sturdy and adorable for beach, shopping, emergencies, kids sleepovers, baby bags, elder depends
Too true! Where I live, big box craft stores are a 2-hour drive away. I ain't buying gas for that! I have a dollar tree, 3 dollar generals, and a family dollar 😅
I have found the same fat quarters at Michael’s and Dollar Tree. It’s probably the same for other places that sell fabric. I think spending too much on fabric as you are learning is not necessary. Most of our little projects don’t need to be heirloom quality any way.😊
Great project and video. For all those beginners out there, when deciding which square goes where, put the "worst" blocks in the middle. Bc that's typically where you put stuff, i.e. vase of flowers, candle, food tray, etc. That way the "worst" blocks are hidden. Put your "best" blocks on towards the end where people will usually see them more.❤
love your video - sharing a tip for newer quilter - after you have the quilt sandwich together and pinned - take a 1/8" straight stitch around the quilt sandwich it locks all 3 fabrics together and you dont have to worry about quilt shifting while you quilt.
I just want to say that I love your videos. I’ve been sewing since I was 10, I’m 60 now. I made all my kids clothes when they were young, made pageant dresses for sale (funded private school for my kids with that!) But I really enjoy your videos. I love your energy and your explanations. I remember the person who taught me to sew…she was not happy and cheerful like you! Thank you for your passion and energy!
I love the scarf as batting! I came across over a dozen lap sized fleece throws at a thrift store in the "fill a bag for $1 day" bin. I have been using them as batting for a couple years and still have some left. Love your thinking outside the box mentality!
@sharonking8777 you can also use them as backing for a nice size receiving blanket if you have cute flannel for the front. Turn it inside out and run a decorative stitch around. Mothers always love these blankets. I did about 30 for an inner city hospital last year, and make them for nursing homes. For warmer, just replace fleece with the flannel.
Tell your family thank you for sharing you with us beginners. Not only do you show how to do it on a budget but so many ideas for new and creative projects. Your confident instructions make me more confident to try new things. Please keep posting and having fun! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I just wanted to tell you a tip for the tiniest of scraps. If you do a small project, such as a Christmas ornament, the tiny scraps that have been saved can be used for stuffing. Pretty cool. I love this table runner! I'm putting together my Christmas gifts, I think I'll add that to the batch!!❤
Thank you for your encouraging spirit and your giggles. I’ve been sewing for 50 years and currently sew almost everyday. And the perfectionism is killer!!! I can’t seem to Cut anything perfectly square, even when I square it up IT’S NOT SQUARE!! So humbling, I’ve accepted that I may never create something that matches up and is square. Your positive words and acknowledgment of the imperfections of life ease the angst of sewists who hear you!!!! Love the projects and have forwarded your videos to my newly graduated college student. You’re priceless!!
I so totally know how you feel regarding “perfectionism”. I started …. and quit with my first quilting project when my original 8” square ending up 3 1/2” wonky something that could have been called off-plumb but nothing close to a square because I could NOT get the dang thing squared up.
I wake up to my favorite crafter! Why don’t we just buy a “dollar tree”? I will be there as soon as I can get dressed! You never cease to amaze me. Are you going to show us how to make those stars?
Another great, fun video. I love your ideas, I have been quilting for over 30 years, I love a quickly project to break up a big project. I never thought of the fleece scarves for table runners. Perfect!! I have used fleece as batting on crib quilts I have made for gifts. One note to mention is that fleece does not shrink like traditional batting, so you don't get that "grandmas " quilt look after washing, all scrunchy and soft. It holds its form a little more and makes for great backing for table runners, or baby quilts. Plus, on sale it is much cheaper than batting. Thanks for the idea.
Thank you so much for the midway pep talk… you are so encouraging. I quit sewing awhile ago because I couldn’t sew a square to save my life and with your help I have bags and now a table runner!! THANK YOU ❤
I loved this table runner and honestly the fabric is adorable!! I have to remember that a table runner is not just for kitchen and dining room tables!! I love simple and quick mini projects while I am working on my larger quilts. Thanks so much.. I am thinking Christmas gifts!!
I get you. I like watching your projects and I like the way you are user -friendly and a good teacher for new quilters! And I've been quilting for about 35 years. Love your tote and table runner so far.
I have been sewing for over 45 years. I teach a quilt class at the senior center and I love your tutorials. I love what you do. I went and bought a bunch of drying mats to sew with. Good ideas. Thank you
I love doller tree, i finally found some fall fabrics and Halloween fabrics today. I was so excited 😊, so many ideas came rushing in my head. I want to make a table runner for my daughter, she loves fall colors. So im going to try and do my best. My husband is disabled and im his caregiver so getting these wonderful ideas from you lets me afford doing something i love ❤️ and thats sewing and being creative. I cant afford going to other fabric stores. So this is a blessing to me. Having you as a instructor is awesome, your so much fun and show us to give ourselves grace. Not everything i make is perfect but they are made with love and the person in mind that i made it for. Which they love to, and they dont ask where i get the fabric from lol. They really appreciate the gift, the time and thought i put into it. Please keep making those beautiful bags from dishmats along with everything else you can think of to create. You go, girl. Lord bless you 🙏 ❤
I just LOVE your videos! 😍 I am a seamstress. I love to sew costumes, crafts, etc. I have wanted to TRY quilting but feel overwhelmed! You make it approachable, and better yet-DOABLE! Thank you for the confidence you give us with each of your videos! 🥰
I just came across your UA-cam channel a few days ago while my husband was out fishing for a couple of days. I watched a bunch of your videos during those two days but did not have a car to go to the dollar tree! 😢 Now I’m home again and can’t wait to go to the Dollar Tree and try to make some of those bags. I’ve never sewed a zipper but you make it look easy! I loved the star quilt blocks you made. My mother used to love to quilt but we didn’t know about UA-cam back then. I am going to try to make this in her honor. I’ve enjoyed your videos and your personality! And I have become a subscriber. Thank you for sharing your gift! 🧵🪡
Love your channel! And I love your energy! I’ve been quilting for quite a while but I never tire of learning newer ways of doing things! Your hints are very valuable!!
I LOVE how accessible this is as a new sewist!! I’ve been wanting to try quilting but have been overwhelmed. This is the perfect project to start with!
Thank you Chelsea, I'm a beginner and have learned so much from you and Vivian at the twins day channel. I appreciate you both and all beginner sewing channels ❤
Fabulous video I’ve taught myself quilting during the pandemic with masks moved to bags and now I’m hooked on quilts. My inspiration comes from UA-cam sewing tutorials. You are a breath of fresh air and your joy and laughter is what this world needs more of. Thank you for sharing your time and talents!❤️
I can tell that your creative juices are really flowing Chelsea! You are so fun!! BTW I have used $ Tree fabric before and didn't have any problem with it.
Will you please use one of those squares with a star and make a tote bag, possibly with a dish drying mat? Thank you. I love your videos. I've learned so much.
I love these budget friendly ideas. The scarf is probably better used as batting than an actual scarf 😂. Thank you for making these projects seem not so intimidating. I really think I could do this.
I really must thank you for suggesting gadgets to help with sewing. While watching this tutorial, I hopped over to Amazon and bought that seam tape. It’ll be here tomorrow. Yay! P.S./. I love your tutorials using dollar store material!
I'm jealous. That fabric does not look like dollar tree fabric to me. It's so cute. I got the mini clamps from Dollar Tree today. I didn't see any fabric. But it was not on my mental list either. I've sewn for years, but never made a patchwork star. I'm going to get that tape and give a star a try. I like listening to you. You have a friendly voice.
Love watching your channel! You are so good at explaining! I am a seasoned quilter and always something to learn! Wish you were my neighbor and friend and sewing buddy! ❤️❤️❤️
Chelsea I absolutely love your videos! You present things in a fun and happy manner and it makes me smile. Thank you for your positivity and your projects. 💖
This is probably not a new idea but it's what I do to make the edges better for me when I bind. I serge around the edge of the quilt and for me it makes things neater and easier to bind. Love your videos.
All your projects are very, creative interesting to watch, beautiful& pe..rfect. I love to watch how beautiful project with not so much expensive on the pocket money. YOU ARE GREAT. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Chelsea! I have been wondering for WEEKS if my machine did the serpentine stitch… you AGAIN, taught me how to find out. I had been looking on line with no luck. But yes, in fact, the brother PS 700 DOES have this stitch. Thank you for showing me your book, it made me go get mine out.
I couldn’t even make it all the way through the video. I had to stop and pop in and give you a ❤!! You have totally brightened my morning. My 1st time seeing your channel. You made this easy to understand and affordable for all. Happy Sewing!!🧵
I just Love Watching you Show how easy it can be and how much Fun you make it. You make my Day so happy with your Energy and Interest in showing others ❤❤❤
Woww, I have seen that pattern mant times it has looked so scarey!! But with your instructions and kind words I believe I can do it!! Thank you, Chelsey!!
I have been sewing for years. I finally see a value in not having your needle in your machine in the center of the foot. 😅. It does drive me crazy most of the time for it not to be centered because I use the measuring lines beside the foot but I see it’s a good measure for 1/4 in seam. I love your basic ideas also.
Just an FYI on doing stars. I was watching Donna Jordan and she demonstrated her free pattern called New Year’s Star. It has “floating” stars which means the points are perfect every time. Just wanted you to know that technique. You inspire me to continue quilting and sewing! Thanks so much!🎉

I LOVE how accessible this is as a new sewist!! I’ve been wanting to try quilting but have been overwhelmed. This is the perfect project to start with!
You can do it!
That is such a neat idea! A reversible table runner. It turned out so pretty.
I really like the idea of unbroken thread!
I love seeing you get into quilting!

I have been trying to quilt for years and have limited myself to potholders, bowl cozies, and such. I do believe I am going to branch out.
You always have some great ideas and I love that you love the Dollar Store!

So many emotions right now, I have no words 😶 ❤️
Just an FYI on doing stars. I was watching Donna Jordan and she demonstrated her free pattern called New Year’s Star. It has “floating” stars which means the points are perfect every time. Just wanted you to know that technique. You inspire me to continue quilting and sewing! Thanks so much!🎉
You are such a great teacher!!! Itching to run to my local Dollar Tree for the needed items!!! 🤗
Have fun!
Thank you for all the videos you put out. I like how you show every step. This table runner turned out great!
Thanks!
Seemed so overwhelming. But
your explanations of each step are so good, it feels achievable.😊
Thanks a lot 😊

Great video!! We get you.I don’t know why people have to make negative comments. If you don’t have anything, nice to say, don’t say it at all. If you don’t like the dollar store fabric, you can apply all the principles to any fabric.
I look forward to trying this❤❤
Thank you so much!
Great idea again. I so love your energy!
If I had thought about using the scarves, wouldn't be able to find any this time next year. Lol. You're so lucky! Love your ideas!
Wonderful project-it’s so pretty and you made it look doable for a beginner. Thank you 😁 I love your channel ❤️🌹
You are so creative! I would never think of using dollar tree fabrics in this way. Love it!
