This is a great video and has spurred my interest in collecting cat's eyes. I have a couple of questions---were pink or purple cat's eyes ever made in larger numbers? Has gold stone ever been used with cat's eyes? I've only seen one or two pinkish cat's eyes and those seem to be extremely rare...Also, Thank you very much for your time and effort in making these videos!! I collect them in my online folders and use them as key references in my beginning studies of marbles. Best wishes to you and may all good things be yours!
Hi Randy Burks and thank you ! Yes purple and pink were used in larger numbers. Especially by Marble King and Vitro . I’m not sure of goldstone usage, but you can find some models with Aventurine. Thank you for watching all of the videos, plenty to digest when it comes to marbles , I hope you continue to enjoy the hobby! 🐱
Christine Tailer showed me how to ID the difference between an Asian and American Cat eye. I have a bunch made Imperial most of them are caged cat eye and some are 4 vein. She also showed me the crimp on the pole
I think I might have a few cats eyes style marbles. Not sure where they were made though as I'm not well versed on all the manufacturers. Got my marbles from some place in Branson, Missouri a few years back.
Hey! Im really new to collecting and your videos have been very helpful. When it comes to cats eyes made in asian countries what kind of time period did they use the blue/green tinted glass? I have a whole bunch of them and would love to give them a date. From my understanding modern marbles are much more clear glass with very little bubbles so ive been using slightly tinted glass and heaps of bubbles as a guide to age them. Thanks alot!
Hi Itsacher and thank you ! I believe Asian Cats Eyes first started producing in the early 1950’s. Dating them is difficult for me, as they all seem to have tinted green base no matter how old they are. Perhaps the vanes are fuller with the older ones , but beyond that, I don’t think I can reliably age them.
@stephenbahrmarbles thanks for the reply that's such a shame that it's hard to date them id love to give them some history but either way they are very pretty.
Well, Well...turns out your with marble connection too! Found that out because I posted pics of the aforementioned cats eye marble and someone mentioned your videos! Guess you will have to check out the pics 😉

Thank you very much!! I've been searching for answers and finally your videos. One question, I have some, several that have a signature on them. How or where to look up these names? Thank yo
I've been trying to read them but I need to get a stronger magnifying glass. Also I have one that's yellow and it's got a curved pontil but the core looks like a C that the tips almost touch, any ideas?
Hello Steven I just watched your video and I've always tried to buy any old marbles at flea markets, garage sales, and you know the one tiny little store in a small town that has all the kick naks and oddities and other gems. Anyways it was awesome learning about different types but I feel like I still need to identify some of the other marbles in my collection. My question is this, are marbles like baseball cards where there are assigned values to certain kinds. Older ones worth more. Is their a typical price guide for marbles especially vintage marbles or am I off in thinking that's possible. How do guys like you assign value to certain marbles or what makes some more valuable than others. Thank you in advance if you have any information,?!?😊
Hi Josh and thank you for watching! There are no exact price guides for marbles. A lot of it has to do with the condition of the piece, it’s rairity and collectors trends . They all fluctuate a little but machine-made marble companies like Christensen and Peltier are usually higher priced and retain their value over time. The older German handmades are the most expensive in general. There’s alot of layers to it. I hope this helps somewhat.
I am very new to collecting and am using your videos for reference. I think most of the small collection I have are different varieties from vacor. I have a question on a couple of the cats eyes. They have the veins, but one is a light blueish color and in the light seems almost transparent or holographic? Does that make sense? Are they vacor? Thank you and thanks for the videos
Is there a lapis marble. I have one that "sparkles" under black light and is lapis blue. I also have many other marbles that have a "sparkle" under black light. Thanks
Hi Wesley, it sounds like they might be error marbles, where some of the crucibles were clogged during production. You can email photos to me at sbahr@scarletknights.com and I could take a look. Thank you
Hi Stephen! Thank you so much for your reply! I just sent you two emails with photos attached. I really appriciate you taking a look! All my very best, Wesley@@stephenbahrmarbles
Good evening, Stephen! I have been picking up jars of marbles at various antique stores from time to time (I know it's a crapshoot but it's fun) and have landed some decent stuff. Among my finds was one of those 6 vein crossthroughs you spoke of. It's not the beach ball colors, red, white and blue instead. Still considered scarce? The veins are straight as an arrow through the middle too. Keeper?
Hi love cats eyes becoming very collectable but you might like to know japan produced its first cats eyes way back in 1924 under duck brand cheers john
I have marbles that were embedded into an old furniture my family built. Just started taken them out and they’re all 4 section cats eye marbles. Are these worth putting up to sell. They’re nice.
I think the most collectable are the Marble King St. Mary’s Cat’s Eyes, some of the hybrid Caged Cat’s Eyes and the hybrid Bogards . The Asians have a tainted green base.
I picked up some marbles at an antique store in a Mason jar and in the mix were some green Japanese cats eyes. I noticed that a couple of them had what appears to be a dark purple vein (3 vein). Also there is a clear glass 4 vein that is white with some pink and another clear glass 6 vein that is red, white and blue. I personally haven't seen these color/color combinations before. How common are they?
Thanks for that info! I actually just began collecting late last year, before that I was and still am an avid agate hunter. Thus my interest in marbles. I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned from your videos and look forward too more!
My eyes aren't that good, any chance I can send you some pics and maybe get some info on them? My fiance and myself got done with a house cleanout and came across a a bunch of marbles. Thank you Stephen! Now I know some of my cats are cooler than I previously thought. Thanks to all those that contributed as well.

I didn't know Vacor was so important!!
Hi Thank You for sharing.
Thanks Buck ! 🔵
Thanks again for the content
Thanks John and Happy Holidays to you !
i once had a misty cats eye like 30 years ago.. i wonder where it is now.
i had nearly a thousand marbles between 1987 and 1990.
some of them were amazing to look at.
i was in Kent in the UK.
when i moved to London in 1990 i never saw anyboby play so i guess I just stopped and ended up giving them away to my friends and cuzns.
@@stephenbahrmarbles Thanks for the information. I will continue to look for them. best wishes---now back to studying marbles
Christine Tailer showed me how to ID the difference between an Asian and American Cat eye. I have a bunch made Imperial most of them are caged cat eye and some are 4 vein. She also showed me the crimp on the pole
She’s a terrific collector! would love to do a video with her someday.
@@stephenbahrmarbles Hopefully we will meet for that some day. Feel free to send a friend request if you want
I got marbles from the Goodwill! 😊
Congratulations! Welcome to the hobby!
Cool! I have some of these.
I'm under William on there too so you know
i had a nine vein three color in blue glass with a pontil on it hand made.i have some in clear glass and some in green glass.i collected for a while and sold most to a collector from richmond kentucky
Cool Lelon , thanks for sharing ! 🔵
I had clear solid colors and cat eyes
Was hoping for more information regarding manufacturing processes. Still an interesting video. L8R G8R. :-)
Do they have Shooters in that group wonderful I wonder who made the large one's
A lot of marbles makers made large ones 🔵
Hi Duke , I would have to see the marble. You can email me photos at : sbahr@scarletknights.com thanks for watching the videos!
I love love love your marble collection. I want to eat them.
Is there a lapis marble. I have one that "sparkles" under black light and is lapis blue. I also have many other marbles that have a "sparkle" under black light. Thanks
Thanks Travelerdavis , I will have to google “Lapis”
I have a few marbles with one single vein. All clear with a light peach colour vein. Could someone help me to know what they are? Thanks!
I have a cage style catseye with the orange peel like surface. I've had a hard time identifying it, any ideas?
That sounds like a Vacor De Mexico trait, they did make a caged style cats eye.
Boggard or heaton clear marble so light wisp of black uv turns it purple @ 15:18 time in video
Keeper?
Clear base glass I should say too
Hi love cats eyes becoming very collectable but you might like to know japan produced its first cats eyes way back in 1924 under duck brand cheers john
Nice job
Than you Jaec, Happy New Year!
I have marbles that were embedded into an old furniture my family built. Just started taken them out and they’re all 4 section cats eye marbles. Are these worth putting up to sell. They’re nice.
@@stephenbahrmarbles thanks it does. I’m going to keep them forever ... I love them . Thanks brother
Hello Stephen! 🤗
Hi Hydrolized ! 🔵⚪️
I have some marbles I bug them up in our back yard I know I played with them back in the days I'm 51 I played with them when I was 8
Awesome Juan ! Pretty cool that you still have them.
Which cats eyes are the best to collect and is the green Japanese or the clear US marble the better of the two?
I think the most collectable are the Marble King St. Mary’s Cat’s Eyes, some of the hybrid Caged Cat’s Eyes and the hybrid Bogards . The Asians have a tainted green base.
i have 34 clear nine lined catseyes and 20 in green glass.i am trying to find what they are worth now/are wet mint/
I have several caged cats eye marbles with only four fingers near the surface with vitro like colors. Did vitro make any with just four?
Hi Lori , I would think they’re more likely Asian but maybe Vitro. Send photos to sbahr@scarletknights.com if you want and I can take a look.
The Clearer the shooter the less air bubbles in it the better price you always got for them
I have several marbles I think are vintage were could I send a picture of them for identification
I have a lot of cat eyes from the 50s where can I get an idea what they are worth and maybe sell them?
Where are you located? I would love to have you look at all my marbles!
I'm surprised that the marble king 4 color 4 vein and the mimic weren't mentioned, aussom great video though
Good point John! I’ll have to dive in to the marble kings and Vitros a little further.
Is it vein or vane? I posted pics and used the word vein and was corrected saying it's vane. Also is it Cat Eye, Cats eye or Cat Eyes?
Hi Barry, vane and cat’s eye are the correct textbook spellings.
Some are cat eyes i was told. If I have something,I'd like to sell them if possible. Thank you and have a good night.
Can we still purchase the world of cats eye marbles?
Yes Koby , it is a mainstream publication that you should be able to find on the internet 🟢
Well sir its been a year since i sent you a package from Colorado if you recieved it did you like the master marble i know the other two were beatup a bit but i sent them anyway .just wondering if you got them?
Hi Daniel , I apologize but honestly I can’t quite remember the package. Can you describe the Master ? The US mail has never failed me so I’m sure it made it and I want to thank you for mailing!
@@stephenbahrmarbles it was one of a set of four master marble co late thirties it was the blue opaque and had the distinguishable white u shaped swirl .I also sent a couple of other marbles and a small blue bottle and suggested that I could make you a lit display for some of your marbles.you had commented to me that nobody ever just gave you a rare model .when I didnt hear back I put the display on hold .I sent the package to New Jersey at the address you provided!
I'm sure you would remember it if it came I had wrapped it in black and white duct tape the reason I contacted you is I'm going back to where I found it and was hoping to maybe find the purple or agua or the white one to this set the 1939 license plate at this dump was the only clue that led me to discovering what the marble was.any way to make a long story short I was thinking about you and after a couple of years of not seeing your videos you popped up on my u tube feed just a week before I'm going to the dump if you didnt get it I'm sorry I boxed it real good when I sent it !
Hi Daniel, yes I did receive that package with the Big blue Master! Thank you so much! I do get a lot of marbles coming and going, but gifts like yours are rare so I appreciate it ! and I did save the explanation note. I will work that marble into a future video ✔️ Good luck with the next dig , I hope you score some other color combo Masters - they made some cool ones! 🔵
@@stephenbahrmarbles if I do have the good fortune to find one I'll send it your way and I'll subscribe so I get the video.correct me if I'm wrong but it seemed that the set was kind of rare and just putting it in a jar on the shelf isnt right so if I find anymore they will be yours .there was an odd green marble I believe I told you my dog dug up I sent it because it looked like a great one to have restored I'll keep in touch and I think I still have your address thanks agian
Wunderschön mögen die Kinder Weltweite...............! Vielen Dank
Hey Stephen I have a clear marble with the eight outside veins but they are white, not multicolored. Is it a catseye?
Thank you, I searched those and I found a caged cat's eye that looks just like mine😊. Played marbles as a kid and have no clue what they are all called lol.
Do the bubbles inside make a value difference?
Not really no, some people do like them slot though.
Where did you get your display shelves?
I get my wooden wall displays at Flea markets, they’re old printer press trays .
i had a few of the caged style too.....didnt know at the time the names of the styles
How much would a collection of around 100 very old cats eye go for? Where could I sell them? I have a decent collection of antique marbles I’d like to get off my hands.
Stephen Bahr Thanks for the tip brotha
Good
White and pink
Bravo 👍🏽
I have a collection of the st mary's marbles
Stephen I havent forgotten your package I'm slow as molasses in winter I promise I'll get it to you before turkey day sorry Colorado dan!
im pretty sure that most of the mysteries of the universe can be found in a cat's eye somewhere.. probably in the dirt!
I think you may be on to something 😺
😊
Hey dude are black crystals rare?
People don’t play marbles no more why they don’t play with them anymore 💭🧐🤔🤨🙇♂️
The kids today are steeped in the world of electronic everything. No more hands on anything. Board games , outdoor games , personally participating in person everything is out the window.
@@yo-ry1np 😂 The way some people are acting you could be right. Nothing weirder than a clown with a mask alone in a car . The media has done a great job on those with weak minds.
Kids don’t want to kneel down in the dirt anymore.
@@blacksquirrel4008 I will admit we were cruddy. Dirty knees, hands and the lugs on our shoes. Marbles is a cruddy game . The electronic games are indeed cleaner. In 1954- 1960 it seemed less important.😂
They've lost their marbles😮
The plans with Japenese manufacturers “fell through”. Yeah, okay
